I required a new evaporator coil (or altleast an attempt at disassembling and cleaning by a…read moreprofessional). It's packed with dust, mold, and particulates. The system is over 30 years old. The system also runs an R22 coolant harmful to the environment and soon-to-be unsupported (ie. banned) in 2020... so parts will become hard to find. The serviceman opened up the system and took one look. He asked me if the system works. I said yes it still does. He then quoted me $2,625.00 for a new 1.5 ton CARRIER unit, including service installed which is a great deal. He suggested I replace the HEPA filter, or sign up for an annual maintenance subscription plan. I paid him $105 for the Carrier system estimate and my Trane evaporator core and condenser inspection. Degree Heating didn't have the $19 HEPA filter I needed so I had to go to Lowe's and buy it myself. The unit I own is rare so I decided not to subtract any stars from the review [Edit 14.06.2019] I rented a 20lb Mi-T-M 175 psi Honda Portable Air Compressor for $36 + $100 security deposit from the Home Depot and cleaned out the evaporator coils myself. I notice the difference already; the system seems 40% more efficient. It will have to suffice until I can finance a system upgrade
