Tonight we dined here for the first time. We were seated in the "lounge" and experienced one of the worst dining experiences of our lives. Here are the events that occurred: 1) the seats had a pool of water on them, all 4 were wet, as was the counter top we were dining on l. We soon REALIZED IT WAS DIE TO A LEAK IN THE CEILING. The water dripped directly on us. I DO NOT KNOW WHETHER THERE IS A BATHROOM PLUMBING ISSUE or if it was a result of rain. I hope the latter! 2) fifteen minutes after being seated we did not get a waiter or waitress 3) the person that took our order go the order incorrect. My son's meal was not the meal we ordered 4) my dinner never made it out. Turns out the waitress didn't add it to the order. They comped my entree but that did not help as my food arrived after everyone was done eating and ready to go. 5) WITHIN 30 MINUTES OF LEAVING THE ESTABLISHMENT BOTH OF OUR SONS GOT SEVERE STOMACH ACHES. They both rushed to the restroom within a matter of seconds from one another. Under no circumstance would I recommend this establishment and I also am fairly convinced they would not pass inspections. read more

1.5 stars! Benihana has gone down the drain. I came here for a birthday party. We were sitting at 2 tables. The host/ waiter was forgetful. We had to remind him constantly. Then, the chef we got was awful. She was not good with her performance show. Her cooking was a mess. The food was under seasoned but it was way over cooked. For me, I told her that I wanted mushrooms when she asked. However, she skipped me and when she finished cooking, I told her I never got mushrooms. She gave me an attitude. The one best part was the drinks, they were at least tasty. The service was horrible! The server and chef were terrible as well! Food was not tasty! So many things were wrong so the price was not worth it. I wouldn't come back here since their restaurant is just a disappointment now. I wouldn't recommend anyone to come here. Update: Received an email from the restaurant and was nothing was done to resolve the problem. I won't forget this terrible experience. I have never experienced such unprofessionalism from a well known establishment. I walked in at 3:35pm to make a take-out order for several rolls of sushi as it was on my way back from the museum. My friend gave me (4) Benihana gift certificates $20 each & (2) gift cards $50 each to use. I tried to place an order on GrubHub however it did not work so I walked into the restaurant to place my take-out order instead. I had to ask the hostess THREE times if I can place an order with her. I informed the hostess that when I entered the gift card number into GrubHub it wasn't working and asked "Can I place my take-out order with you instead?" She responded "I don't see your order. You need to use GrubHub again." I asked her again, "Can I place my order with you instead?" She told me "We don't use gift cards/certificates unless you are dining in." Her manager then walked over and she started talking to him in Spanish. I asked her to checked the balance and the gift cards showed $50 each. The gift certificates were expired and she said I can no longer use it. After her manager walked away her snotty attitude became more friendly. I had to ask her for a THIRD time if I can place my take-out order with her instead of GrubHub. She finally took down my order after 10 mins. It was 3:45pm. I was told that it would take 25mins. My order didn't come out till 45 mins later at 4:30pm. When I left the restaurant I took my food back home and realized many issues: As I was waiting for my order, there was no one in the front area to greet any customer. I wanted to ask how much longer but no one even acknowledge my presence as I was waiting 45 mins for my take out order. The hostess told me it'll be ready in 25 mins. Also forgot my soda. I already left the restaurant and was 1 hour away to go back and get my soda. There was only ONE customer in the restaurant so clearly they were not busy. I didn't want to let it affect me too much with with the unprofessional experiences. At this point I just wanted to get out of there because I did not feel welcome and didn't want to let it get to me. I did felt some sort of release when I finally got out of there. As I was ready to move on and try to enjoy the rest of my day but when I got home.......... At least get the order correct and not spill my food all over if you are going to provide terrible unwelcoming service to your customers. My sushi box was pand sauce was leaked everywhere in the bag. Not going to lie, we only tried this place because of last week's episode of Office Ladies about the "Benihana Christmas" episode" since we have never been to a Benihana. And, YIKES. This place is bad. I recommend going to a local small business hibachi grill instead of this chain. 1. The drinks- I ordered a Japanese whiskey on the rocks. They brought me basically a cup full of ice with maybe a tablespoon of watered down whiskey. They made it right- sort of. They brought me a new one in a shot glass. A sipping whiskey in a shot glass. Interesting. I then ordered one of their cocktails which was maybe 99.9% mixer with a faint hint of rum. Didn't bother finishing that. Was essentially like drinking almost $30 of water. 2. The knife "show" in the beginning. Dude dropped the knives 3 times. I contemplated just telling him to stop to lessen the risk of getting hit in the face with a metal spatula. 3. The bathrooms smell like hot sewage. Not a good sign. 4. Soup and salad were probably the best part of this meal. 5. The servers were very attentive and were quick to fix any errors. No complaints there. 6. The food is seasoned with one thing- pepper. And TONS of it. The fried rice literally just tasted like pepper. 7. Filet mignon on was ok but honestly my husband's regular steak didn't taste much different. Seasoning was lacking here. 8. Management and other staff will stare you down uncomfortably until you leave and start re-setting the tables before you have even finished eating. That was pretty off-putting to me. The chef hadn't even been done cooking my brother in law's food for 5 minutes before that happened. In summary- go to a small business hibachi place. Better food, better prices, and you won't wake up the next morning still tasting pepper no matter how many times you brush your teeth. We are going to need a palate cleanser after last night's meal at Benihana. read more

My husband and I came to eat here a few weeks ago, and as soon as we checked in with the host, one of the first questions the host asked me was "are there any allergies we need to be aware of?" "Yes, my husband is allergic to shellfish." "Ok, just let the chef know once you sit down." "No problem." We sit down. The waiter comes by and takes our order. He asks us "Are there any allergies the chef need to be aware of?" "Yes, my husband is allergic to shellfish." "Ok, I'll go tell the chef, but just remind him once he starts to cook your food." "Ok, no problem." The chef comes to start cooking. He begins to review the orders. I state "My husband is allergic to shellfish." "Ok, I'll cook his first, the chef says." What happened you ask? The chef forgets, slaps all the shrimp appetizers on the grill FIRST, then remembers that my hubby is allergic and sends my husbands raw Chateaubriand steak to the back to be prepared. The chef goes through the entire process of cooking everyone's food at the table while my husband waits... And waits... And waits... Finally, about ten minutes after everyone's food is prepared, a manager comes over and apologizes for the wait. Apparently there's a backup in the kitchen and my husbands order is at the back of the line awaiting preparation. "We've been here for over an hour and we told 3 people about his allergy, why should he wait?" "We can't move you up because we have others who are waiting to receive their food as well?" "But you all are the ones who messed up, why do we have to pay for the chef's mistake?" Finally the chef interjects and says he'll go to the back and cook it himself. Another 10 minutes passes and the chef finally emerges from the back with my husbands food. I have long since stopped eating and let me food go cold. The manager comes out and half ass apologizes by giving us a free appetizer coupon. Upon reading the fine print, that coupon is only good with the purchase of an entree. We declined, and opted for the negative yelp review instead. Bottom line: One mistake was exacerbated by poor managements response to the mistake, and now we'll never go to that benihana again. read more

An update to my original review --- During our last visit, we signed up to get a free dinner on our birthdays. When you do this, you are emailed a coupon for a free birthday dinner (up to $30) good for the entire month of your birthday. When you bring the coupon, you have to show ID that has your birthdate on it. So...with coupon in hand, we went around 5 p.m. and were seated immediately. Sure enough, the waitress asked to see my ID. Once satisfied that it was really me :), she took the coupon. The advantage of the coupon --- I felt freer to splurge on dinner. So, I ordered the "deluxe treat" which consisted of filet mignon and a lobster tail. For a drink, I had a blue moon saketini. The drink, while tasty, wasn't very strong. The chef prepared our meal quite well. Both the filet and the lobster were properly cooked and tasty. However, I will think twice about ordering this dinner again only because it was a lot of food. Part of the birthday celebration shtick involves the servers and the manager coming to your table with bongos and a tambourine then singing "Happy Birthday" in both English and Japanese. Afterwards, your picture gets taken. Before leaving, you are given your photo in a cardboard frame. On the frame, is a password so that you can also view your photo online. All in all, a pleasant way to celebrate :). Saving $30 on dinner wasn't too shabby either! I recommend signing up for the b'day program if you enjoy teppan table dining. read more

Love, Love, Love the on sight table cooking entertainment. This takes playing with your food to another level. Benihana is hibachi style cooking at its finest. No matter how hungry I am, I can never finish my food; the portions are plentiful. The sushi is amazing, the sake is amazing, the Benihana punch is amazing, and the birthday club is phenomenal. For your birthday, they give a $30 gift certificate that covers my meal and my appetizer. Lovely. A star deduction for the lunch time service. If you want the full Benihana experience, you must go during dinner time. Lunch time is when the amateurs serve and prepare your food. The service was horrible. The chef want entertaining mainly because he didn't speak a word of English. Through the whole dinner all he did was salt and pepper and smiled. The chicken one of our friends ordered wad being grilled then add it wad about to get served I saw it was raw. The cook still served it and my friend was a mother who was beat feeding her child. I told her don't eat it and have him finish cooking it. When she told him to throw it back on the grill he didn't understand a thing she told him nor did he understand what he did wrong. The only plus is that all the seafood and meats were all fresh. My seafood was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I will never go back to that location. read more

Disappointing. I've been to various Benihana restaurants in different cities for 20 years. I think of the chain as the gold standard for a teppanyaki grill Japanese restaurant. My experience here was disappointing. I took a friend out for her birthday. Overall the quality was what I expected except for one thing. I ordered a tempura appetizer. I did not get any tempura sauce with it. If I had been told they were out of tempura sauce I could understand. If they had offered to adjust my bill, or take it back I would be happy. Instead, they give everyone two sauces for the dinner. When I asked about the tempura sauce they told me that the regular sauce was the tempura sauce. Well, it was a different type of sauce, not tempura sauce. So, I don't think much of the place, and will write a number of bad reviews of the location well before I return there. read more

Nice date nite with the wife. ------------------ I've been going to Benihanas all over the US for years. This one for over 5 years. I've seen the quality decline over time. Service at the lounge is slow. They are understaffed. Food took over 45 minutes to be ready. The waiter was doing his best, I cant blame him, but he had too many tables, and not enough help. The food was just okay. The steaks were not seasoned or aged. Without their sauces I Would've returned them. Soup was barely warm, salad overdressed. I ordered a Las Vegas roll, which is fried and I saw it ready to be picked up for 15 minutes before being delivered to my table. By then it was lukewarm at best. My steak was overcooked. I could hear the chef instructing the kitchen to re-do it, which was nice, However, no one told me. I just had to wait and wait. No apology, no explanation, no courtesy. Steak arrived properly cooked, but 30 minutes late. I'm sad to report this was not always the case. I've been a customer for this establishment for years. Service was great as with other locations. It's just recently I think they are over staffed, under trained, and over worked. I would say management needs to get their act together. read more

Overall, pretty good. If I ever get a girlfriend, this isn't my first choice, but we'll come here! The sushi was easily one of the higher quality choices for the area. I very much enjoyed the yellowtail and salmon. I was a little butt-hurt that my order of eel nigiri only came with one piece. But I can't stay too mad at them when the piece I was served had a good bit of meat to it (as apposed to that oily, wrangled skin monstrosity that some places serve). I was also pretty impressed with the crab stick in my Alaskan roll... which is not something I ever expected to be impressed with. The quality of it was solid and it wasn't packed tight. Looking at it from the side, it doesn't even look like it was ever a stick at all! Service was pretty standard, nothing special but not bad by any means. We went to this restaurant last night. Never ever again. No one was there( bad sign) table was dirty. You can not understand a word the employees are saying. Prices are ABSOLUTELY unreal! You get hardly no food at all. If you want fried rice it's 6.50 extra per person. Here is the icing on cake. The hostess watched our table all night as if we were going to steal something etc. We saw her over in corner looking at us. I went to this restaurant 10 years ago. Ok so I don't get what the fuss is about in regards to their servers. It's like any other Hibachi place I've ever been too. Those other places just don't have the spunky little waiter that served us last Saturday. She was funny, efficient and performed her job well. She literally stole the show. Even the Fried egg chicken, the heart shaped fried rice and the Volcano were no match for her. My entire party loved her. Too bad I can't pronounce not type her name. As far as the food no real complaints, it was Hibachi. It was good but it could've been better. Nothing wrong with the taste of the food but I like my food piping hot and the way the food is served...rice plated, then meat, then vegetables something is bound to be like warm. But I still enjoyed it. One thing that stood out was the cooks willingness to prepare a meal for a vegetarian friend of mines meal in the kitchen away from the grill. She appreciated that a lot and when the meal came to the table our spunky little waitress was right there to replace her rice, which had cooled, with a new bowl of hot rice. I will provide a raw review just like how I got my $100 dollar to go meal which I had to throw all away because I did not trust anything that was delivered after witnessing that crap. Look at my photos. As you can see, it looks like the meat could go back to the farm and start eating the grass again. I am not sure what in the world has happened to this restaurant in the last year. We visited last year after having photos with Santa, and it was magical. We all looked forward to returning. This visit, if it could go poorly, it did. Our server failed to meet even the basic standard of keeping our water filled - we had to get up and find her twice. Our chef was so very kind. Truly. But she had no idea what she was doing. To say our proteins were dried out is an understatement. Even my son, 10, whispered to me, "When is she gonna take that chicken off the grill?!" It actually became humorous how long that chicken jerky cooked! One other pet peeve of mine - rice is so, so inexpensive - why in the world would you choose to be miserly with your rice portions?! As a family of four spending $180 on a meal, I expect a lot more. I feel staff needs much more training. Everyone was kind - unfortunately that is the sole reason I can give them 2 stars. This was the worst hibachi experience we've ever had. Had reservations for 7:30 on a Saturday night and it took forever for us to receive our food. There were so many tables of people just sitting and waiting. We joked with the other families seated with us that we hoped we would get to eat by 9 and we may as well just cook our own food. We observed a family just leaving after waiting for a long time and we should have left too. By the time the chef started cooking it had already been over an hour of waiting. Now yes the chef was great and it was a pure coincidence that the 2 other couples that shared the table with us were like minded and in less than 2 min of sitting down we had started to have a blast . The chef , server and the manager did not mind us being loud although it was almost 3 pm and they in-fact joined in and we talked about all their other locations and experiences and it was a wonderful afternoon . Benihana is definitely not the same experience as I remember it. We took my son and his friend tonight to celebrate our sons 10th birthday, and it was meh all around. Food was fine, and kids enjoyed watching the food cooked in front of them. But, there was not much interaction, and it was clear our chef was new to the role. Also annoying, when ordering, there is an option for regular or fried rice. There is no notice that the fried rice is a $6 additional charge. But perhaps worst of all, despite my mentioning his birthday in the reservation, and also noting it in a confirmation call before we arrived, there was no acknowledgement of our sons birthday. I had to ask specifically for them to acknowledge it after desserts had already been brought out. For the prices charged, and the included gratuity, this is not the experience we expect. We won't be coming back to this Benihana location. read more

I love a good hibachi experience and sadly this just was just NOT IT. This was a notably lack luster experience. Our chef did not have much of an entertainment factor that one would expect from a good hibachi chef. There was no throwing of the shrimp or jokes and interactions between chef/ patrons. When looking at the food, not only was it overpriced for the portions and quality received but it was SO salty to the point it was almost inedible and at almost $40 a plate I at least expected mediocrity. Secondly, there was an absurd amount of food waste. At all other hibachi establishments if they made a little extra fried rice they just divided it up between patrons and continued the service. At benihana they discarded at least 3 portions of fried rice which was appalling. Lastly, the chicken was so over cooked it was extremely tough. Overall I was so disappointed. A shining star in our experience was our fantastic server though, McKenna!! She was prompt and kind and overall very friendly read more

My daughter was getting married and restaurant reservations got messed the Thursday before the event on Saturday. After much scrambling around and calling various restaurants we got with Benihana. We we were advised to have make multiple reservations to seat the amount of people we needed. We did as instructed. On Friday I got a nasty phone call saying they couldn't seat more than 10 due to Cocid restrictions and they over flow could be seated on the other side of the restaurant. This is the day before the event. It wasn't like you could another reservation. We had people coming from WV, MD, and Woodbridge. So 12of us show up at the designated time. They sat 8 of us. Absoutely refused to sit the other 4 of us until the other 3 got to the restaurant. All three were literally in there car 5-10 minutes away. We didn't have to start ordering food but could of gotten drinks. If the other 3 didn't get there the were canceling the reservation.mind you we 4 different ones as the instructed us to do. The front desk and manged entender management were and disorganized. Additional people showed up after we were seated. They wouldn't my grandson's 10 and 5 sit with us even though there were seats available. They offered for them to sit at the bar area alone. My other daughter had move from the group to sit with the kids. The other two guests went somewhere else to eat. I understand Covid Restrictions. I don't understand telling us what to do then acting like an ass when we follow what you advised. They rushed you through the entire. Manager was always angry when he spoke to us. We made the best we could of a tough situation. Thank God we bought a cake because the food was mediocre at best. I've eaten here years ago and it was not the same. Meat was tough and lacking flavor. On a positive the wait staff at my table that took our order was polite and helpful. One person out all of the ones we dealt with. Please take your business elsewhere between the two tables they made at 800 dollars and delivered shabby treatment and mediocre food. read more

Went here for a friends birthday. She choose it. First the location is in the middle of no where. We had a reservation but still had to wait for a table, but only 5-10 minutes. Would not order a drink again, seems as if they only refill water on a consistent basis. And if they would refill my drink, it would take them a few minutes and they would leave the old half of the drink in the bottom lol. Guy cooking our food/ doing the show was nice and funny. They took a picture of us after and it was a pretty good picture that waiter did really good! The plates and silverware was pretty. 3 stars because the chicken is not marinated or seasoned.
