We decided to go to Benihana for my father's birthday. It was really busy and we had a reservation for 10. We ended up with 11 and they did accommodate us which we appreciated. It was our choice to be a little tight on table. The resultant itself is big and clean. Nothing stood out as far as anything negative. When we sat down our waitress came over and took our drink order. She was very kind and sweet. It's an awkward set up with table and hibachi grill, so she did best she could. Our orders were taken and our hibachi chef came to table. There was no show or anything special. He was a very nice hibachi chef. I ordered the filet and shrimp. Couple of things that stood out. I felt as if the order of things cooked didn't make sense. Raw chicken was touching the shrimp at one point. The amount of butter used for the fried rice was staggering. The shrimp were slightly over cooked. The soup and salad that came with meal were good. Nothing outstanding. The steak was cooked perfect medium rare. I just was expecting more. I don't know why I always give this place another chance. It's a disappointment everytime. My boyfriend and I got a take out order that said it would be ready at 8:20. We arrived at 8:45 hoping the food would be ready, just to wait an additional 30 minutes just for anyone to even acknowledge that we were standing there at the counter, all of the servers and employees just walked around as they didn't see us standing there waiting to be serviced. When I finally said something to someone, she responded with a nasty tone like I was bothering her. If we hadn't already paid for the food, we would have left right then and there but our food was paid for and we were starving!! We were very pleased with our meal here. It was my husbands birthday and we are so glad he chose this location! He ordered steak and shrimp, I had scallops. I have food allergies- and they were very careful. Lot of families were dining out- we sat with a sweet mom, her best friend and two sweet sons. One who was also celebrating his birthday. Place feels dirty the minute u walk in. The wine cabinets are broken in the lobby. it took a long time to get seated. It took 20 minutes just to get water. Even longer to get drinks. Food was good but the part that ensures we will never return to this allocation or any Benihana was an 18% service charge for groups of 4 or more. Then the waitress stood at our table with the handheld charge machine explaining that she got only a small part of that as well as the chef and bartender. On 09/24/21 I dined at the Dearborn location. Celebrating my 8 year old nieces bday. BAD MISTAKE! The table was a chefs table, 10 ppl were seated. Service was HORRIBLE THEE ENTIRE NIGHT! We were told after being seated that there were only two chefs in the building. Smh on a Friday night?! So the wait for our chef to arrive was about 45 mins. Appetizers came out AFTER entrees were already on our table. We were constantly having to get up and go to the bar to receive drink services. Our waitress, who only came to take our dinner order RUDELY! (Not our drink order. Apparently there is a separate beverage server) Repeatedly had to flag down other waitresses to serve us because ours was basically non existent. The chef was the only friendly face we seen the entire night! They did not sing the birthday song even after we requested from a server that they do so. Which was big disappointment for my niece! Food was sub-par. We had to beg for a birthday mug! Server stated the child had to there. But the child was there all night! It was her birthday for crying out loud! We had reservations for 8:30 on Christmas and when we arrived we were told 7 grills were down and it would be an 40 minutes to an hour wait. We waited all day to eat enjoy a great Christmas experience, I had 3 kids and I'm pregnant. I could wait another minute to eat. The host said they called and I did have a missed call from No Caller ID number at 7:22 but they left no message and sent no text. The host said they had been backed up all day. + Fresh food, unique cooking experience, nice decor - Not good if in a rush and starving, poor front desk service I've gone to this location a few times and have a few observations. The front desk staff is usually uninformed regarding the menu and not the friendliest. I suggest making a reservation as the walk-in can make for a long wait. The decor at this Benihana is a bit nicer than some of the other locations I have been at. Not a lot of seating in the waiting room in front, but the dining rooms are large and look really nice. I just don't know why they don't play Japanese music at these places to put you in the mood, They play some other type of top hits music, strange. Upon seating you at the table, the waitress takes your drink order and what entree you want. I usually order the spicy hibachi chicken which always has tons of flavor and actually isn't that hot, even when they apply two cups of the hot sauce while cooking. The waitresses and cooks just don't seem like they are top notch. Don't get me wrong, it's not a poor experience, it just seems it could be much better with friendlier service, an education session at the beginning, and more lively cooks. Food is always prepared well. The chicken fried rice has great flavor and recommended for your entree instead of plain white rice. One guy at my table actually ordered two orders of the chicken fried rice. Seeing them cook up the rice and different entrees is fun, but after after you watch it being done from multiple visits, it actually starts to get old. That's why I think if they had more lively cooks who have their own tricks, it would make each experience more unique instead of seeing yet another onion volcano. The whole dinner takes at least one hour, and my biggest beef is that by the time your entree is prepared, your rice is starting to get cold. Unfortunately what's really special about beside the name - I've visited here several times before and other same style restaurants. The birthday voucher before it was updated to BUY ONE GET FREE - they give u credit for $30 but now it's so picky with it. Please note the voucher exclude the sushi entree. What I didn't necessary like was the waitress was giving us little hints to get out so they can leave. We weren't even the last group and towards the late hours they don't seem to keep the restroom up par. I'll stick to my smaller restaurant that serve sushi. read more

I inquired at the hostess stand as to what the issue was and she responded that they don't staff "in the morning.." They have staff for dinner. I checked the time again and it was now about 130pm.. Not near the "morning." So, they should structure their staffing schedule differently to serve their patrons. The food... That was an up and a down. Sushi was flavorful and the rice was a good texture. The lunch boat had many nice tidbits! The chicken that was served on the lunch boat was, sort of, fatty and had areas of blood.. Not good. The tempura was not made with authenticity, but was ok. So, the food was decent but could have been better! The service was great!! Two wonderful ladies were so attentive and friendly! They were quick and they were really so nice to interact with. No complaints there!! I wouldn't say that I was impressed. Dined here with my mom for my birthday. The place is always packed so I had high expectations. The service was horrible. Our server didn't bring our drinks with the rest of the table. Then 10 minutes later she returned with salads and appetizers. Still no drinks. When I asked where our drinks were she snapped at me. Then she offered everyone yum yum sauce except us. We had to ask several times before she finally brought us some. Also, she cleared the rest of the table's salad bowls but left ours during the majority of our meal.
