I literally feel like somebody just robbed me of 75 dollars from me. At a time when prices are so high and people are trying to stretch their paychecks, the last thing that anybody wants is the feeling that they were just ripped off by a restaurant serving food so terrible and a staff so "untrained", that they don't even know their own product. Now to be fair, we did not sit at the tables with the flying shrimp and volcano onions, we sat in the bar area where you just order off the menu. My friend and I both got the Benihana Trio consisting of chicken, shrimp and fillet mignon. The meal was $50.00. The chicken was so dry that it was basically inedible, the steak in my opinion was not fillet and the shrimp, though average, was ok! We asked for the sauces and they came in cheap little plastic containers that had been prepackaged and we had to ask for them several times before we even got them. I mean for a 50 dollar meal you'd think that they could serve the sauce in glass containers! I was asked if I'd like to "upcharge" the rice from steamed to fried rice and I said yes and was told it would be $2.00 extra. When I got the bill it was "up charged" $6.40 and was told the $2.00 charge was at lunch and not dinner. WE ATE AT 7:00 pm, not even close to lunchtime. For desert (which is part of the package) I was told that they only had chocolate ice cream which I was fine with, but she brought VANiLLA BEAN! Another case of not knowing their product! I travel the country for a living and there are many great restaurants out there, but this isn't one of them. I would suggest taking the 100+ dollars you'd spend at Benihanas and go the grocery store and buy the nicest cut of meat that they offer and eat at home! You'll be much more satisfied. Believe me if there was a score less than one...Benihana of Dearborn Michigan would get it. If I have saved one person or couple from spending their hard earned money... writing this review was worth it! read more

10 people waiting. 6 tables available. Hosts yells that the wait is 30 minutes. Obviously the last time we dine here eve 1- the staff wouldn't understand the basic concept of "welcoming" 2- it would help if your staff didn't shout at everyone. 3- AGAIN- there were SEVERAL tables that were available & we were told VERY LOUDLY & RUDELY the wait time is over 30 minutes. This review is NOT to get "free meal". It's to warn people from approaching your "establishment" & to do so at their own risk of being mistreated & being shouted at in the most uncivilized possible way. read more

Tay was our cook and he was excellent, the food was delicious. Will be back again with the family and I will request Tay for my cook again.

Jay was an exceptional Chef, very personable and engaging! He made this experience very enjoyable for our table!! Nice job Jay!!!

Food was amazing, I had the perfectly prepared salmon. The chef did a fabulous job preparing my meal away from shellfish and Jay even eliminated the salt for me! GREAT JOB JAY! Your skills with the tools was impressive . This is a great place to relax and have fun. I would have given five stars, But everything I touched was sticky beginning with the door I entered and the bathroom facilities as well.As the table where I sat and the chair I was sitting in read more

On 09/24/21 I dined at the Dearborn location. Celebrating my 8 year old nieces bday. BAD MISTAKE! The table was a chefs table, 10 ppl were seated. Service was HORRIBLE THEE ENTIRE NIGHT! We were told after being seated that there were only two chefs in the building. Smh on a Friday night?! So the wait for our chef to arrive was about 45 mins. Appetizers came out AFTER entrees were already on our table. We were constantly having to get up and go to the bar to receive drink services. Our waitress, who only came to take our dinner order RUDELY! (Not our drink order. Apparently there is a separate beverage server) Repeatedly had to flag down other waitresses to serve us because ours was basically non existent. The chef was the only friendly face we seen the entire night! They did not sing the birthday song even after we requested from a server that they do so. Which was big disappointment for my niece! Food was sub-par. We had to beg for a birthday mug! Server stated the child had to there. But the child was there all night! It was her birthday for crying out loud! And too top it off I WAS OVER-CHARGED ANOTHER PATRONS TAB TO THE SUM OF $88.93. They couple who bill I was charged with, weren't even dining at our table! So how in the hell does that even happen!? Benihana servers just going around swiping folks credit cards not even paying attention! Rachel, who claimed she was the manager. Did nothing. And I mean absolutely NOTHING. But say, oh it should fall off and charge you the correct amount. Which is only $21.50WTF?! As we were packing up we noticed our to go containers would not fit in the small brown bag they gave us. So we asked for a red bag. We are fully aware that those bags are for carry out. But Rachel states they didn't have any bigger brown bags, so hence we asked for the red bag as it is bigger and can hold more containers. Nastily she stated we could not have one as there are for carry out only. As she witnessed our struggle with 6 tiny bags filled to the brim! For the money we spent, HOW DARE YOU?! Never have I ever been so disappointed and annoyed by the lack of professionalism in a high end restaurant! Will not be returning! read more

Go early to avoid a large crowd and long wait. They don't seat you without your entire party through so be prepared. Overall the food is still good but service is slow like everywhere else since COVID. Our server and chef were nice though and we celebrated 2 birthdays. Get diff items and share. Also try the apple sake. read more

Are you kidding me? What happened to the showmanship? The service? The experience? Ummm I paid a lot of money to be disappointed! First, we ordered a bottle of wine and got one glass. After we waited a significant amount of time, we were alerted they don't have that wine? Ummm what the hell was I drinking then? Finally, we ordered sake in hopes they would have that. When the chef arrived at the table, he asked if we had the soups and salads? We said no and under his breath was I'm not surprised. When the soup and salad showed up at the same time the soup was barely luke warm. Jon our chef was excellent, but did none of the fun things they usually do? We asked about the choo choo train and he looked at us like he was surprised. I did look around the restaurant to only see people on their phones? I guess I would just cook too... But really Boo!! Then we again waited for everything else... Finally my table mate asked the waiter how long he has been there and recommended he take the menu home to study! Yes that was the perfect way to end an expensive shitty dinner! Go somewhere else.... read more

+ Fresh food, unique cooking experience, nice decor - Not good if in a rush and starving, poor front desk service I've gone to this location a few times and have a few observations. The front desk staff is usually uninformed regarding the menu and not the friendliest. I suggest making a reservation as the walk-in can make for a long wait. The decor at this Benihana is a bit nicer than some of the other locations I have been at. Not a lot of seating in the waiting room in front, but the dining rooms are large and look really nice. I just don't know why they don't play Japanese music at these places to put you in the mood, They play some other type of top hits music, strange. Upon seating you at the table, the waitress takes your drink order and what entree you want. I usually order the spicy hibachi chicken which always has tons of flavor and actually isn't that hot, even when they apply two cups of the hot sauce while cooking. The waitresses and cooks just don't seem like they are top notch. Don't get me wrong, it's not a poor experience, it just seems it could be much better with friendlier service, an education session at the beginning, and more lively cooks. Food is always prepared well. The chicken fried rice has great flavor and recommended for your entree instead of plain white rice. One guy at my table actually ordered two orders of the chicken fried rice. Seeing them cook up the rice and different entrees is fun, but after after you watch it being done from multiple visits, it actually starts to get old. That's why I think if they had more lively cooks who have their own tricks, it would make each experience more unique instead of seeing yet another onion volcano. The whole dinner takes at least one hour, and my biggest beef is that by the time your entree is prepared, your rice is starting to get cold. This is by no means a place to go to if you are very hungry due to the time involved. read more

We decided to go to Benihana for my father's birthday. It was really busy and we had a reservation for 10. We ended up with 11 and they did accommodate us which we appreciated. It was our choice to be a little tight on table. The resultant itself is big and clean. Nothing stood out as far as anything negative. When we sat down our waitress came over and took our drink order. She was very kind and sweet. It's an awkward set up with table and hibachi grill, so she did best she could. Our orders were taken and our hibachi chef came to table. There was no show or anything special. He was a very nice hibachi chef. I ordered the filet and shrimp. Couple of things that stood out. I felt as if the order of things cooked didn't make sense. Raw chicken was touching the shrimp at one point. The amount of butter used for the fried rice was staggering. The shrimp were slightly over cooked. The soup and salad that came with meal were good. Nothing outstanding. The steak was cooked perfect medium rare. I just was expecting more. Again, our hibachi chef and waiter were great, but the food was really lacking. Not as good as I remembered it to be. For the amount of money we spent, I was expecting better quality in food department. Overall, it was a bit below average. read more

I don't know why I always give this place another chance. It's a disappointment everytime. My boyfriend and I got a take out order that said it would be ready at 8:20. We arrived at 8:45 hoping the food would be ready, just to wait an additional 30 minutes just for anyone to even acknowledge that we were standing there at the counter, all of the servers and employees just walked around as they didn't see us standing there waiting to be serviced. When I finally said something to someone, she responded with a nasty tone like I was bothering her. If we hadn't already paid for the food, we would have left right then and there but our food was paid for and we were starving!! Just another learning lesson for me to remember to never return to this Benihana location again, not even for take out order. read more

Place feels dirty the minute u walk in. The wine cabinets are broken in the lobby. it took a long time to get seated. It took 20 minutes just to get water. Even longer to get drinks. The drink order for our half of the group was wrong(2 of the drinks). The managers did more serving than the server. It was busy but where was she? She was not picking up the pace I assure you. She ghosted us. She treated it as if it were a Monday. She had a good personality though. The chef did a great job and the food was delicious I must say. Every bit of the meal was as good as any other Benihana. I could not get another drink so I went to the bar. A can of beer and a shot of Bicardi was $28. I am not cheap but what a rip off. The Bicardi was for my wife. The server gave her a strawberry daiquiri with no alcohol in it! So we paid for a drink twice. One table got up and left paying only for their salads and drinks. The tip/service fee is included in the bill. Then our waitress Jackie said she does not get any of that so we should tip her seperately. For what? The worst service in human history? My wife asked the manager and of course what the server said was not true. In closing, great food, bad service. Go to a different Benihana. read more

Went out with a group of 7, had reservation at 6, didn't see waitress til 6:30. Service was slow, forgotten drinks and refills. Food was good but the part that ensures we will never return to this allocation or any Benihana was an 18% service charge for groups of 4 or more. Then the waitress stood at our table with the handheld charge machine explaining that she got only a small part of that as well as the chef and bartender. She watched as my husband had to figure additional tip. So it amounted to a 36% charge on a $350 dinner. Terrible business practice and wasn't that good. We will not return. read more

We were very pleased with our meal here. It was my husbands birthday and we are so glad he chose this location! He ordered steak and shrimp, I had scallops. I have food allergies- and they were very careful. Lot of families were dining out- we sat with a sweet mom, her best friend and two sweet sons. One who was also celebrating his birthday. Our waiters, chef and hostess were all very friendly, knowledgeable and gave us excellent service. Really enjoyed our evening and will be back . read more

Unfortunately what's really special about beside the name - I've visited here several times before and other same style restaurants. The birthday voucher before it was updated to BUY ONE GET FREE - they give u credit for $30 but now it's so picky with it. Please note the voucher exclude the sushi entree. What I didn't necessary like was the waitress was giving us little hints to get out so they can leave. We weren't even the last group and towards the late hours they don't seem to keep the restroom up par. I'll stick to my smaller restaurant that serve sushi. read more

Some ups and some downs! Strangely, I arrived for a late lunch a little after 1pm. The lobby area was full of people waiting for tables. With this many people waiting, you would think the place was full. Not at all!! Lots of tables open in both the hibachi side and the sushi/table area. The wait times ranged from 15-45 min. I inquired at the hostess stand as to what the issue was and she responded that they don't staff "in the morning.." They have staff for dinner. I checked the time again and it was now about 130pm.. Not near the "morning." So, they should structure their staffing schedule differently to serve their patrons. The food... That was an up and a down. Sushi was flavorful and the rice was a good texture. The lunch boat had many nice tidbits! The chicken that was served on the lunch boat was, sort of, fatty and had areas of blood.. Not good. The tempura was not made with authenticity, but was ok. So, the food was decent but could have been better! The service was great!! Two wonderful ladies were so attentive and friendly! They were quick and they were really so nice to interact with. No complaints there!! I wouldn't say that I was impressed. This location has a way to go, but I still had an enjoyable experience once we got seated. The waitstaff made the positive difference! read more

We came tonight for my best friends Birthday and there was an issue with being seated ( not their fault). We waited what seemed like an eternity to get our food which was delicious. I didn't understand why there was a security guard there standing near us nearly the whole time. My niece got a ticket on her car in the parking lot after being in the restaurant for 2 hours (before we ate). I felt absolutely uncomfortable. Wish I could rate the food but we never actually dined here. We had reservations for 8:30 on Christmas and when we arrived we were told 7 grills were down and it would be an 40 minutes to an hour wait. We waited all day to eat enjoy a great Christmas experience, I had 3 kids and I'm pregnant. I could wait another minute to eat. The host said they called and I did have a missed call from No Caller ID number at 7:22 but they left no message and sent no text. The host said they had been backed up all day. Why would they wait to call an hour before my reservation and not leave a voicemail or send a text. I had no idea who called. Next time we'll try the Troy or Farmington location. read more

after my group arrived, we ordered drinks and an appetizer from the bar. Sat at the bar for about 15 mins waiting to be seated at our table. We sat at the table for 15 mins before the host Jayla came to get our order. After she took our order, we sat and waited and waited literally over an hour for our chef to come out. Mind you it was not too busy at this time. It took for us to notify the manager that we thought it was so unacceptable and wanted to leave. It was my first time there and is not impressed with this restaurant. read more

We had a 6:30 reservation and 11 people, we were sat around 6:45. We were given drinks soon after and order soup and salads after 20 minutes of being sat down. Our soup and salad did not be given to us until around 7:20 after that nothing. We had sat for an hour and 20 minutes with nothing but soup and salad and drinks. The waiters didn't even turn on our grills by the time the chefs have gotten here after being told multiple times that they were about to come out the door to serve us. The grill wasn't even on. This place only deserves one star because of the tasty food and the extremely nice cooks other than it deserves an absolute 0. For the price of this place and the food we should not have to sit for over an hour with no food. Disgusting customer service will not ever come again. read more

This was the ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE IN MY WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE!!! Starting from my TERRIBLE ASS waitress!! Couldn't tell you her name because she never told us. Black lady, older looking, with a crusty bob! She comes over with no smile on her face, no introduction, just stale and got drink orders. I asked her what was the mocktail options, she told me the whole menu can be mocktails. Which is odd because how do you make an old fashion or an expresso martini into a mocktail? I ended up getting water and knew from that point on the experience was going to be terrible. When I received my sushi that was all I got! Never offered any spicy mayo or even soy sauce at the LEAST! The other couple at the table ordered wings for an appetizer that didn't show up to the table until 45 mins after he ordered it. When he asked her about it her response was "it's still cooking" when in reality we know she never put them in! After 15 more mins on waiting on them she comes out to tell him she doesn't even know where the cook is. SMH! The hibachi guy was even WORSE! He comes out looking like he is straight off the block. Super hood, super lazy, superrrrr stale! No excitement just there smh! Of course he didn't introduce himself either. As he was cooking the food the lady at the table notices he is about to mix onions in her rice. She proceeds to tell him that she doesn't like onions he tells her "we'll eat them they good for you anyway". The guy at my table tries to make conversation with the boy and asked him how long has he been doing this. With the nastiest look the hibachi guy responds "this my first day". We could tell he was being sarcastic but the way he said it with such an attitude was very disturbing. As he cooks our food not once did he even add a pinch of salt. When the rice hits my plate I taste it and it's EXTREMELY bland! Doesn't taste like anything at all. I proceed to ask him if he could add some type of seasoning to the rest of my food.. THIS PUNK TOLD ME "DO YOU WANT TO COOK THE FOOD"?????? That was the lastttttt straw!!!! Because WHO ARE YOU TALKING TOO!!!!!!!!!! If I wanted to cook my food I woulda stayed my ass home or went to black rock but instead I chose to come to this raggedy establishment where a person is getting PAID TO COOK OTHER PEOPLE FOOD THEY WAY THEY LIKE IT!! After that I had no choice but to leave. I couldn't stay a second longer! Everything was terrible from the service to the small amount of food I did eat! The salad was SOAKED in dressing, the soup was cold!! Just terrible!! I will never in my life go to another Benihana!! I'm a server myself and have been in the industry for 17 years! I would've never treated my guest that way! I will be contacting corporate and the better business bureau!! They need to go out of business immediately!!!!!!! And the only reason they are getting this 1 star is because I can't post it with NONE!!! read more

Went here for lunch, had the & !!! And a delicious $15 cocktail the pink one with Tito's

The food here was adequate. However, there was little showmanship, and the chef had to apologize multiple times for the waiting staff. Worst of all, this was the best part of the experience. The person in front of us burned a serving platter. Our waitress then told us we had to request every aspect of the 5 course meal. After all of this, they forgot to hand us our white rice until after our meals were cold and I had brought it up to the manager. Who did not apologize. Then they neglected to remember to refill our waters. We then had multiple people at the table make comments such as "I could take a nap before our waitress gets back". Because of this, the ambiance of the restaurant was subpar. I would not recommend to come to this restaurant read more

Dined here with my mom for my birthday. The place is always packed so I had high expectations. The service was horrible. Our server didn't bring our drinks with the rest of the table. Then 10 minutes later she returned with salads and appetizers. Still no drinks. When I asked where our drinks were she snapped at me. Then she offered everyone yum yum sauce except us. We had to ask several times before she finally brought us some. Also, she cleared the rest of the table's salad bowls but left ours during the majority of our meal. It felt as though she was discriminating against us. Btw...we were the only occupied table in the restaurant so she wasn't too busy. The hibachi chef on the other hand was amazing and energetic and the food was delicious. Unfortunately, due to the service, I will never return. I was so surprised at all of the negative reviews of this establishment. The experience here was not as bad as everyone has made it seem. I came here for my birthday dinner and had a decent time with my friends. The staff was friendly, and our cook was engaging with us. My only complaint with this place is that it is completely overpriced, there is no reason why Hibachi Chicken should cost over $20. They smothered my rice with their signature garlic butter that was entirely too greasy. If you come to Benihana's understand that you are paying for the experience, not the food. read more
