We ordered sushi for carry-out and were shocked to find the shrimp tempura roll draped in strips of blanched cabbage leaves and lacking nori. Even more surprising was the 16 oz container of edamame that was less than half full. The person handing out orders put the bag on the counter and walked away before I could say thank you or hand over the cash tip I had in my hand. This was my first time at this location in at least 10 years and I will not be returning. read more

Great place to come and have an experience with people you don't know, especially if you decide To come alone or with only two or three people because the table has seats for eight people. So you will definitely be sitting with people you do not know. The experience of having your food cooked on the grill in front of you with a chef that does a mini knife and fork tricks is also cute and exciting. If you have never experienced a hibachi grill meal, then this is truly the place to come. There's a variety of menu items from many seafood choices to steak and chicken dishes. The chef will prepare your meal to your liking. If you love garlic butter, they will pile it on to your liking. I always order an extra side of the chicken fries rice, because you seem to never have enough. The way to order it is one up and one down, which means they will give you one bowl up while you're waiting for the rest of your sides to cook and the other one down, staying warm until your meat and vegetables are finished cooking. So I truly like eating my one bowl up and while enjoying the cooking show from our chef. read more

Unprofessional hosts, waited longer than our reservation time even though restaurant was empty. Then just seated us at some table with random people. When requested a booth for ourselves was informed it would take longer (did not ask what type of seating we preferred and just assumed). Would not recommend if you're actually trying to go eat something, wastes your time until you eventually lose your appetite from getting tired of waiting so long. read more

So much wrong here! Had a reservation- received confirmation call was told if your complete party was not here by 545 they would not seat us - ok fair enough- reservation was for 530 - we were there well before 530 - did not get seated until 545 - drinks 6pm - appetizer came during meal being prepared. Order was almost correct - we were there for a birthday celebration- granddaughter witnessed the table next to us getting a birthday song etc. she was looking forward to that at our table. Server seemed distracted- order was taken by someone else. - soup was room temp at best - chef was ok - we've had more enthusiastic chefs in the past - finally get through dinner and desserts came - no Tambourine or happy birthday song which was very disappointing to my granddaughter- so we sat there hoping the server would come back so she could ask them to sing - right at that time a full blown argument between some other guest started in the bar area - husband pointed out to server that security was outside maybe she should go get him. For the price you pay for dinner here I expected a lot more quality - service - food - and atmosphere. We have decided should we ever decide to have Benihana again will drive to a different location. read more

We left before our reservation. There was someone at the front desk laying his head on the table like he was hungover and one of the hostesses was spinning coins on the table. I felt like I walked into a dorm at 1 am after a party. Wild that a franchise would allow that level of unprofessionalism. If that's how the front desk looked, why would you trust the food standards? read more

I was utterly disgusted with the service i received here at this restaurant.. the general manager was rude for no reason. He told us it was a 45 minute wait though there were more tables available than people at the restaurant. Ok no problem. We waited at the bar and the bartender told us that we can sit at one of the tables and sat us down. She went to get us some waters and another server came and asked what we wanted to drink. In the middle of our order the same manager in a LL Cool J hat said that the server did not need to take our order because we decided to sit ourself and to disregard us. I told him that the bartender who happened to be asian sat us. He then went to the asian bartender and started yelling at her erratically. We just moved and went back to the bar. We waited and for about and hour no one sat at that table so it's like ....??????? . Ultimately stay away from this restaurant unless you like men with a kangol hats yelling at you for following direction. #StopAsianHate read more

Food is always great when we go, went for my Bachelorette party this evening. However.. service went down hill. I mentioned in the beginning that I wanted an order to go, I expected them to just cook it in front of me with the rest of our food, they done it before. Waitress tells me to place the order by the register when we get our food, okay not a big deal. Guy at the register tells me it's $20 more making it $67, but eating it at the table was $47?!? Never heard of any restaurants doing this. Probably won't be back, rather just go to the one in Troy. read more

Spent $150 on 3 rounds of drinks & appetizers at the bar waiting for a table we were told would take an hour. We got a table after 2 hours. We were seated at a grill with another couple with a chair between us to distance us. We all put our orders in. Then out of nowhere, some man came out & said our party of 5 could not sit there, we had to lose one. HOW DO U TELL 1 PERSON FROM YOUR PARTY THAT THEY HAVE TO LEAVE & THE 4 CAN STAY & EAT?! We all got up & left. They lost a $200-$300 tab. No one is coming back. read more

Came in to Benihana for a quick lunch with my fiancee on our anniversary. This was 3/9 at around 1 PM. There weren't very many people there, walked right up to the host stand and were told maybe 5 to 10 minutes tops for us to get a seat. Took us about 20 minutes to be seated, even though there were tons of open seats. Our waitress (Don Sha according to the receipt) was just overall unpleasant from the start. My fiancee ordered the lunch boat, and requested soy paper on the California Roll rather than the nori it's normally made with, which the waitress said was fine. When we got our food, it was made with the nori. When we asked her about this, she said, "oh, you can only get soy paper if you're ordering a full roll" and then walked away. If we would have known this, we would have paid if there was a difference or just ordered something different instead. She won't eat the nori on sushi, so, it was a waste. That was the last time we saw her until we were pretty much done with our meals, going without a refill on our drinks during the entire meal. I'm not generally one to play any kind of race cards, but, the other table that she had definitely got a lot more attention than we did, and, it certainly felt that might have played a role in the complete lack of attention to us. Throughout our meal, I saw the person who I thought could be a manager standing around pretty close to our table, but, never came by to introduce himself, I'm assuming since he could hear and see we were not happy whatsoever, but did come by and bus our table when we were finished eating. We didn't see our waitress even one time between getting our food and her bringing us our bill. She did offer to bring us to go cups for our drinks that she refilled only once we were done eating, but, both sets of cups she brought out were filthy. They had yellow stick stuff on them as well as hair and other stuff. I think she honestly just brought us back the same set after we complained about them being disgusting. As we were walking out, I walked over to the counter to talk to the guy in the blue shirt who bussed our table, Harvie Blackmon, I simply asked "are you a manager or is one available" and with a very snarky attitude he responded "Oh, doesn't the blue shirt give it away?", the guy next to him was wearing a red shirt, so, what does that mean? He gave us the same excuse that the waitress did regarding the California roll we ordered, and said there wasn't much he could do because we didn't come to see him during our meal. Sorry, but, maybe if you would have introduced yourself as the manager rather than just standing around awkwardly while a table sat with no drinks for their entire meal then we would have known to talk to you. When we brought up the dirty cups that we had gotten he just said "Oh, well they sit by the bar it was probably just some of the syrup from drinks" Sorry, but, that's not an excuse to hand customers dirty stuff, especially when there was hair on them! The only thing he did for us is offer us 10% off our next visit. Sorry, but, it was a $60 lunch that was absolutely awful, with a rude, useless waitress and a rude, condescending manager who seemed like he couldn't wait for us to go away, why would we ever want to go back to Benihana at all? Especially this location? read more

Just a note to your establishment I know that we all have processes in place these days. But I have an issue with one of them..With the pandemic and restrictions, closures of restaurants etc. We have door dash,  Grub hub, Uber bites in place..I have been craving Benihana for quite sometime now, and it took me about 20 minutes to view your menu and order online.I placed my order and my husband was on your side of town, so we live west of Benihana's ..Anyway he was going to pick it up I do not go out much due to Covid..When I placed my order read the message that I had to pick it up and show ID, credit card etc.  My husband couldn't pick it up even with his DL..They wanted to refund my account have my husband use his card!! Over some rice and shrimp! I was very disappointed and canceled my order! Benihana you let me down! Well, thank you. I guess I will have to find a restaurant more accommodating. Disappointed ugh.. Attempted to go here to have dinner with 4 of my friends and that was a big mistake! We arrived at 6:30 pm as a walk in and was notified that they were booked for the night for the hibachi tables but we could wait for a table to become available in the lounge area, however they would have split my party up because the maximum allowed at the table is 4 people. HOW??? The hibachi grill seats 8 people and every table was full so why would my party be split up? Since when have they stopped accommodating walk in guests? I asked to the host when did these new changes begin and his attitude was so disgusting that we left and went to Sapporo! read more

Today I drove from Monroe for carry out. My daughter and I decided to try for the first time. I called in the order, my bill was $58.51, so I gave my credit card to process the order and I proceeded to Dearborn. When I arrived, Monae was my Server. I asked her if I could have two extra condiments, garlic butter and she replied..."There's already some in your bag." I explained to her that I only needed two more. I'd purchased two large orders of shrimp rice. After asking her for the third time, she rolled her eyes and threw two into my bag. She got even more bothered when I asked her for a side of green onions. She went to the kitchen to get them. I handed her a $5 dollar bill for her trouble and wished her a nice day. She ignored me and never replied anything. I felt embarrassed that I'd chosen a restaurant with such bad service. I'd always wanted to try Benihana, but my experience was a bad one. I called to complain. I spoke to Jay, who was a very nice manager. I appreciate him addressing her behavior. I will not go back though. read more

Hmmmmm. I have never been to Benihana but after being told for years to go for the birthday deal I finally did it. Good thing because without that $30 discount this rating would be a two at best. You will wait, even with a reservation, arriving on time, it being mid week and being an early diner, you will wait. No one is friendly here except the chef and he is not effusive or anything. Do not expect a smile, a hello or any chit chat. This feels like a timed activity and you better go along with the program. The food was mostly tasty. Ninety plus bucks without alcoholic beverages tasty? No. Honestly, the best part of the meal is the chicken fried rice soaked in garlic butter. We dined with lovely people who told me to get extra garlic butter in the bottom of the cups of fried rice and *ding ding*, awesome suggestion! I could eat that every day of my life! You are supposed to get free steamed rice with dinner but when you get the special chicken rice you do not get the steamed. For the chicken varietal, they charge your butt 3.50 a cup for it, you will each need two, so add in seven bucks to each entrée automatically. Benihana scam. For what you pay for the entree, the fried rice should come with. No one at our table got steamed, everyone was upcharged to death and Benihana saved on rice costs. There is no free green tea. They have that on the online menu and they lie. Get used to it, it is not the end of the online menu lies. The prices are also higher, yes even when you select the correct restaurant. Even soft drinks will cost three bucks and you will not get a bunch of refills because Benihana wants you out ASAP. The soup is bland as hell. The salad cheap and fairly tasteless too. The shrimp appetizer was served with our regular dinner as tiny shrimps that were cooked at the same time as the jumbos, therefore really overdone. Sigh. If you order a sushi roll it will be small and of buffet quality. Seriously. The filet however, is quite happy. Ask for it cooked rare if you like medium rare. It was still tender but mine was definitely served to me medium. They chop it up and it overcooks for sure. My husband's medium was over medium as well. Regardless, it was good. The seafood items were all overcooked in my book. The shrimp quite rubbery and chewy. The lobster overcooked too but saved by being served in the shell with a boatload of that garlic butter. The chicken is a waste of damn time, full stop. The veggies are good, zucchini nice and all. My table was anti mushroom and onion so the chef piled my plate with a ton of them as I was one of the three of eight who partook in either. Nice stuff but I couldn't find the rest of my food for goodness sakes. My plate looked like an onion and mushoom sauté, I had to hunt for anything else. The waitress was not the friendliest sort. She was gruff and abrupt and brought me an iced tea with no ice. Sigh. She also rushed it through for sure. Grabbing soups and salads while we are still trying to eat them then bringing out boxes about three minutes after everything was done cooking. I am not exaggerating. Our grill guy was nice but not really a showman or anything. I was expecting something more fun. His outfit was filthy and we were an early reservation. When I show up at five and you are a mess, yeah you are just a mess. Everything there just seemed less than clean to be honest. I am no clean freak but It just all seemed shabby and unkempt. Staff too, I mean just wrinkly and tired looking clothes with spots and stains and then you are noticing the restaurant seems the same. I digress. That online menu is lying again when under specialties it says you get free Haagen Dazs ice cream or sorbet (read it, it says it). I got a free sundae for my birthday, not Haagen Dazs and with I swear a single squirt of chocolate and a dab of whipped cream. There was some skinny cookie straw coming out of it. Oh festive. It felt like a Mickie Ds treat. They also sang an extremely lackluster song with drum and tambourine or some such. Gee thanks. My husband got nada. Too bad so sad. For what you pay I expected so much more. It felt so nickel and dimed and shabby. Given our discount it was not worth it to bitch in person but in hindsight I would have been so pissed if it was full price. I felt scammed by things on the online menu not actually being given to us, tea, rice, ice cream and/or sorbet. For upscale prices we got hosed. We probably won't be back. read more

Not the best location, personally I prefer to drive to the Troy location if wanting to eat Benihana. The service is terrible and not the slightest bit accommodating over the mistakes they make. I haven't actually eaten the food here, so I can't speak on that. But I work nearby and a coworker orders his lunch from there once in a blue moon. I offered to pick up his lunch twice and both times the service was terrible. When you walk in, you walk into a foggy room and smells like grease. It makes me want to vomit each time I've been there. I've been to other Benihana restaurants and this location has the worse ventilation system ever. You can hardly breathe in there. When you walk up to the carry out section, no one greets you or acknowledges you. I stood there for 5 mins today (no one in front of me) before someone said, are you picking up? Obviously! I'm standing in line. No hello, no how are you, and definitely no "I'll be with you in a few minutes." Very unprofessional and they definitely don't know hospitality. read more

Absolutely terrible service. Was seated well after reservation time. Then sat at the hibachi table for 45 minutes before getting silverware or soup. This place has really went down hill. I took my husband here for his Birthday what a mistake. We called ahead and they had open seating. We went before the dinner rush. The host at the desk when we got there said it will be an hour and a half wait. He seemed Rude. This was a Birthday Celebration and they did not seem to care. An hour and a half wait? We had a small group for dinner, and had a pretty good experience. I think our waitress was new, because she seemed a little nervous plus she brought out soups and salads for people who didn't order dinners, then looked flummoxed when the error was pointed out. But she was really nice. Our chef was nice as well, although we could barely understand him. (Is that supposed to be part of the charm?) I have been to enough hibachi places that I could do without the whole "show" so it was nice that he didn't make a big deal of it. The rice was amazing and the shrimp was really good, but the chicken was dry (and the pieces were too big--I'm used to them being cut in much smaller pieces). The onions were a bit undercooked for me (although still tasty) and a little bigger than bite-size; the zucchini pieces were too big as well. That said, I could eat anything that they put that garlic butter on. I missed the seafood sauce I've had at other hibachi places (they had a similar sauce but it was NOT the same). A few of us ordered sushi and it was all really good. Our drinks were kept refilled fairly often, and as a bonus, they actually left the pitcher on our table. Leftovers were boxed quickly, checks were brought and returned quickly, and we didn't feel rushed to leave. Overall, I give them a strong three stars since our meal was definitely A-OK. But it definitely wasn't as good overall as other hibachi places I've been to. read more

This location is by far the best Benihana's (which admittedly is a low bar). We started going here after our usual location declined so much that we wouldn't bother wasting our "free" birthday money there anymore. The Dearborn location is pretty recently updated and is a nice big wide-open space divided by the sushi bar. It can get a little loud, but less than you'd think. The service is generally pretty good, and on this last occasion where we went for lunch, it was great. In and out within an hour (which is pretty much a record for this chain). Our server refilled our drinks constantly, and Chef Dave was awesome. He was quick with the cooking and talked to everyone the whole time, making it very enjoyable. He also checked with everyone to make sure he gave them what they wanted (and nothing they didn't want, like veggies). He's a cool guy. This is definitely the location we'll be coming back to, although I find myself less and less inclined to take the long drive and spend the money (because it's not cheap) to go to Benihana. There are other places that are closer, cheaper, and just about as good. The only thing they don't quite match is the chicken fried rice -- maybe Benihana has magical garlic butter or something..... read more

I love the idea of Benihana, but I also hate the idea of Benihana. The food being cooked just inches away is awesome and mesmerizing, but I find myself sweating in happiness. It's just... bitter-sweet. At every Benihana, you'll find the same abundantly garlic-butter'd chicken fried rice and steak and chicken and shrimp and lobster to perfection. The cook will make you laugh and smile and you'll love it. So then why the 1 star? The people here hate it here. They just have an attitude on their face, in their voice, and in their demeanor. With the exception of the cooks, they always hate being asked for anything. With the exception of the cooks, nobody seems to care what I want or need at any given moment. With the exception of the cooks, I feel like I'm not welcome and I usually can't wait to get that check and get out of there (the sweating doesn't help ;). At one point, I was convinced that this was just a Benihana reality - that everyone at every Benihana hates working here and they hate me, too. Until I visited the other two locations in the area. People are smiling at me? They ask me if I need anything else? They make a quick joke that's terrible and nobody in their right mind would laugh but I do because they're attempting to welcome me? Heck yes! It's okay to like this job, and if you don't, maybe don't take it out on the customer. Sometimes individual restaurants of chains have a tendency to be inside a bubble and everyone from management to bussers don't know/have forgotten what a quality experience should be like. In this Benihana's defense, no one has been overtly rude, but everyone (again, with the exception of the cooks) just makes me want to leave with the way they treat me and any family/friends I have at the time. But like most of my negative reviews, the hypocrisy is that I will have to return to eat that cholesterol-filled goodness, despite the customer service. So I would recommend any other Benihana if you have more patience than I do for driving a little further. I fear that the Guest Relations team isn't doing its job, either, because there's a clear track record of poor customer service at this location. read more

Come here every time there is someones birthday because they give you a $30 off food coupon when you sign up online. When you come here i would first suggest to reserve a spot ahead of time because it is always packed. Before your meal here, they give you french onion soup (pretty good) and a Benihana ginger side salad (one of the most disgusting thing i done ever had). For my meal i had the chicken and fillet Mignon with fried rice, which was excellent. A couple of suggestions when you come here: i would advice to get double fried rice to fill out your meal, i would also recommend garlic butter (a lot of it because it is good). Overall this place is on the high side, but when you do pay and come here, you are treated to good food and excellent theater, both done by the chef. read more

This has got to be the worst overpriced meal I've ever had. We ordered our dinners thru the Benihana website for delivery. The food arrived thru Grubhub. Sauces I requested were not added and they forgot an appetizer item. The food was luke warm at best. I had the steak and shrimp hibachi and my husband had the steak and lobster. The steak meat was overcooked and tough. The seafood was also overcooked and rubbery. The fried rice had no flavor other than an overabundance of grease. The veggies were so mushy, you couldn't make out what they were. Not to mention the portion sizes were clearly a joke. We felt it was a lost cause to complain. Does this look like a $48.00 meal? Does this look like a $6.00 side order of rice? I am so disappointed in the quality of my meal that I recently received at this location. I think folks can agree you don't mind paying the price if you get your money's worth. It's only fair to expect a quality meal when you order take out. When you get home and discover what was prepared is less than what you would receive dining in is a huge let down. The take out quality at this location is poor.
