This location is like most restaurants in the chain. The food was good (I ordered sushi and the combo hibachi). The service was about average. The drinks were okay-not bad, not great. The location is good because its right off od the Southfield Freeway, not far from Fairlane.

The most disappointing bar experience. We went at 4pm ish and right when we got to the bar, we noticed a couple leaving - sushi not touched, drink have finished. All we could hear was the manager saying he is going to comp the bill and a server saying they had been there before she got there. At least 45 minutes waiting on their meal. The couple next to them whispered to us that they are super slow. We sat down and decided to not order a full meal. Cons: Bartender was clearly not a regular. She made a special drink with subpar liquor and I called her out on it when she brought it to me. I really thought it was for someone else. She said they told her to because they were out of what was on the menu...,I asked her to take it off the bill. She did and poured it out. Apple sake request came without a cup or shot glass. The cup was chipped and she never came back to give water. Food - sushi was meh at best. I asked for one roll to be tempura fried. They did them both. They were semi soggy and batter was bland. Hibachi chicken fried rice came out without the bowl on top and it was still primarily white (no sauce or butter). I asked her if they could remake it. She came back after they did - before she even brought the plate and said it was still not right. Third time was the charm - she made sure it was right. Sake sangria was premade. Benihana punch - premade. Service - so so. Food - waste of money. I will avoid Dearborn location and you should too if you can. It was an amazingly poor experience and they were slow. I can only imagine if busy for orders not at the hibachi. Don't trust the drinks made unless you watch them. She used house equivalent liquor, mix and I swore it was topped off with soda water when that is not part of it. Best part of the outing - spending time with the person I went out with.

My family and I have been loyal Benihana customers since I was 10 years old. I'm now 33, and we've made it a tradition over the years. We know exactly what to expect from the Benihana experience -- or at least, we used to. My 78-year-old grandmother took me and my two children to the Dearborn location for dinner, and what should have been a fun night turned into a stressful mess. We didn't have a reservation, so we asked the hostess about the wait and were told it would be 30-40 minutes. Since my grandmother didn't want to wait that long, the hostess offered to seat us in the bar area and let us order there. Once we got to the bar, it was clear that the area was filthy -- not a single clean table, and it just felt uncared for. My grandmother immediately said she didn't want to eat in such a dirty space. I went back and asked to be added to the original waitlist, and the hostess said no problem. We were finally seated at a hibachi table around 7:45 PM. In the meantime, a bartender had already served us drinks, and I explained our situation. Still, when the hostess came to get us, it took another 5-10 minutes before the bar area was cleaned up. When we got to the hibachi table, we were seated alone -- just me and my kids. That's when a bar tender came over, aggressive and rude, questioning why we hadn't told her we left the bar. I had already explained our situation earlier, so for her to come over with such an attitude and tone in front of other diners was totally uncalled for and deeply embarrassing. I tried to follow her to calmly talk it out, but her tone only escalated. It was loud, unprofessional, and frankly disrespectful -- especially to my grandmother, who felt completely disrespected by the way we were approached. I went back to the host stand and asked to speak with a supervisor. The man I was taken to (who didn't wear the standard black uniform like the rest of the staff) was completely dismissive of my concerns. I asked about the camera above our table -- hoping it had caught the interaction -- but the camera had no actual device in it, just the mount. So there was no way to review the footage. Zero accountability. Once we were finally seated and the chef arrived, he was horrible -- unfriendly, unengaging, and gave us the worst Benihana experience we've ever had. It felt rushed, low-effort, and completely lacked the fun, interactive energy we're used to. only adding fuel to the frustration leading up to that moment, especially with how rude and unprofessional the bar tender was. Her tone, attitude, and behavior were the exact opposite of what anyone should expect at a restaurant like Benihana. And unfortunately, this isn't the first time we've had an issue here. The previous visit, on Easter and 4/20, was also a disaster. We chalked it up to the holidays and assumed they were short-staffed. But we waited over two hours that day. Even then, the service and overall experience were terrible. Now, having had back-to-back bad experiences, it's clear that this is just the new normal at this location -- and that's a shame. Benihana is supposed to be a premium, five-star dining experience -- from the service and staff presentation to the cleanliness and professionalism. What we've experienced the last two times has been anything but. Spending over $120 for a meal, we expect top-tier treatment, not to be disrespected, neglected, and made to feel like we're a burden. Sadly, the Dearborn Benihana has completely fallen off from what it used to be. This location either needs to be shut down permanently or the Benihana name removed altogether. Unless the Benihana brand no longer stands for quality, service, and tradition, this restaurant is dragging the legacy through the mud. If it's just going to operate like a low-budget hibachi spot, call it that -- but don't disgrace the Benihana dynasty by keeping the name on the door. I do want to end this review on a positive note. Once we were finally seated at the hibachi table, we were assigned a new waitress -- I believe her name was Jessica -- and she was absolutely amazing. From start to finish, she was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was smooth and comfortable for me and my family. Her professionalism and warm demeanor truly stood out and reminded me of the kind of service Benihana should be known for. And it wasn't just Jessica -- the host who helped us earlier in the evening also deserves credit. I didn't catch his name, but he was a tall Black man with a mini fro, and he handled everything with patience and kindness despite the chaos around him. If the entire staff operated with the same grace and professionalism as Jessica and the host, the experience would've been completely different. They were the only part of the evening that truly reflected the Benihana standard we used to know and love.

Fried rice

My experience here was very underwhelming. I came for lunch with myself and a child. I ordered hibachi duo and he ordered chicken tenders. Yes I know this is a hibachi spot but you usually can't go wrong with a kids tenders, so I thought. I asked if I could add a side of fries and was told they have fries but they don't sell them, the chef only makes them for staff when they get hungry and doesn't want to have to make fries for paying customers...I will say the server tried and was attentive and the hibachi chef was nice and interacted with my child at the table. But the food... tiny portion of veggies that tasted questionable, rice was good, shrimp and calamari were tiny. Then the kids meal comes with veggies, rice, shrimp app, and ice cream dessert. For $25 you'd think the kids meal would be filling, wrong. The chef made the food and served no shrimp app and no veggies to my child, then his chicken tenders came out 5 min after all the food was done, they were so over fried my child complained and made me pull the breading off because he couldn't bite into the overcooked chicken. They never brought the rice so I had to ask for that and quickly cashed us out. Had to ask for the ice cream which he promptly brought out. For the price you'd think they'd be a little more on top of it. The ambiance was okay although the places smelled kind of funny. Everyone was being sat quickly and shortly after their chef came out. Wasn't too loud and they seemed appropriately staffed. I was told by many not to come here but I gave them a try, now I see why I was warned.

Came for lunch only to find a piece of Metal in my hibachi fried rice !!!!!! I can only imagine if I bit down on this and chipped my tooth. Or if this ended up in my digestive system!

Super dead messy bar on a Sunday afternoon with chairs turned sideways. I had to wait for the bartender to stop talking before I could get a menu. She also gave me the wrong rim on my 16$ drink because she was too busy talking with a friend. Music and vibe are crap. Won't be back.

Had another wonderful experience! Tay Antonio and Tyrone are amazing! The food was delicious and they gave my aunt an amazing birthday song and ice cream!
