    CHILI SHRIMP ROLL†
    Lani S.

I've been going to Benihana off and on for several years but I hadn't been in quite a while. I decided to visit a few weeks ago and it was an amazing experience. Because it was just 2 of us, we decided to reserve a table in the lounge area instead of being seated with other parties in the grill area. The food was delicious!! Our waitress was very nice and attentive.

I think I have heard about this chain since I was a kid which is a half century ago. I have driven by them almost as long. So have others in our group, so almost that dined were happy. Only one has been there and only for an aunt birthday each year. But our group love Japanese Steakhouses and have been to a few local ones, so I have a few comparables. I found my food a little more spicy but it still warmed up well. Others also agreed it was more spicy but good. The salads were not finished or the soups. Average at best. The grilling was what you expect, onion volcano and chopping but chef not very talkative or interacting. Other service was good but average. Parking lot is smaller than expected and handicap spaces limited. Some of group might be back but with the prices it will be special occasions.

We went for my buddies birthday and had an amazing experience with our waitress Mecca and our chef Oscar. 10/10 experience with them. Make sure when you go to ask for Mecca and Oscar!

This was a crazy experience! Horrible service and okay food! I loved the soup, the best I've had at a hibachi. Everything else lacked: service was really bad, food was just okay. We had a coupon but of course it wasn't valid on the weekends. It was just all really bad; the table next to us stayed dirty almost the whole visit. There was no very attentive staff; no refills and I had to go to the host stand to pay my bill.

Benihana trio of chicken, fillet mignon and shrimp...note the tiny portions of chicken and shrimp

Me & my family dined at the Northville Benihana location last night and it was a disappointing experience. I ordered the Benihana trio which included a steak, shrimp and chicken. With it I ordered double chicken fried rice which was delicious, however I was shortchanged on my steak, shrimp and chicken. The cook gave me 3 free shrimp for appetizers included with the meal. However I only received approximately one third of a chicken breast, two and a half shrimp and about half of a fillet mignon steak. This skimpy meal cost about $60,and we all walked away still hungry . We did notice that the four women dining received ENORMOUS portions and had plenty to take home. Save your money folks, because Shogun Japanese steakhouse offers WHOLE portions of food, and a more entertaining experience with the table side chef. The food was tasty, but it definitely wasn't enough meat for $60 bucks. Get it together,Benihana.

Hair that was in my shrimp fried rice.

I door-dashed lunch for myself today. A California roll and lunch portion of shrimp fried rice. Ate the sushi roll and the took one bite of rice and it felt a hair in my mouth. YES! Long black hair in the fried rice. DISGUSTING. (I don't have black hair before you think it was mine). Wont go there or order from there again. They have gone WAY downhill. I wish I could give 0 stars.

Supposed to be chicken fried rice. Shrimp is chopped on top. Order notes stated "shrimp allergy"

Placed an online carryout order. Part of the order called for chicken fried rice. Notes stated "shrimp allergy." Chopped shrimp was all over the chicken fried rice. Called the location to resolve and was placed on hold until someone answered from the central office. Central office could not get in contact with the restaurant and sent them a message with my contact info to reach out. No one ever called. Repeated the same process the following day and same result. Transactions prioritized over customer service and food safety. Will not be back.

I ordered a Citrus Manhattan as a nice relaxing and refreshing cocktail and man did it hit the spot, at first it was very citrusy but give it a stir and it's quite fantastic. As an appetizer I ordered the Miso Soup and that was VERY delicious, the broth was very smooth. As for my Main Course I ordered two sushi rolls: Alaskan Roll & the Red Dragon Roll. Both rolls were very exquisite, the Red Dragon is something new I have never had before and I have to say that the spicy Mayo made it really good. I also had the Tempura Udon and it was very delicious. The egg yolk in the bowl was very creamy and the noodles were nice and soft. Everything here is very delicious. This is one of the coolest places I have been to you must definitely check it out.

The service and food were 5 stars. I was greeted immediately (although it would be hard not to be--…read morethe interior is small, and the welcome desk is immediately to your right when you walk in.) The menu is strong but limited, which I kind of like- limits decision fatigue, especially after a long day. I ordered the nigiri combo, for the cause. Nigiri is something I've only really gotten into this year, so I'm not an expert, but I know what I like and what I don't. Soft, sticky rice that feels fresh and adhesive but not clumpy, fresh smelling and looking fish. The California roll was a California roll. The nigiri was great however. The shrimp in particular was light and almost creamy tasting? I know that sounds odd but I mean it in a good way. The rest of the fish was good. I even tried eel (this is big for me) for the cause! It was rich and fatty, but not in an unpleasant way as I feared. It was pleasantly sauced, so I was able to try it sans soy sauce and was pleased! I *really* liked the soy sauce here, although they don't give you very much. They also are a bit stingy with the ginger. This was my first time trying tamago, which is a delicately sweetened egg roll stuffed with rice. If you're not used to it, you have to get over the look and just go for it! It's yummy! The restroom was clean but smelled faintly of cigarettes. To be honest... I didn't mind that. It kind of fit with the vibe and gave the restaurant a "real" "edgy" feel, although some people may not appreciate it. The interior is kind of messy and unkempt, but if you keep your eyes on the prize- the food- you'll leave happy!
