I enjoy sushi and have a pretty decent handle on the offerings in the area, and I would say that Koja Sushi is without a doubt the best value in Detroit and surrounding areas. Bash Izakaya is probably considered the highest quality sushi spot in my area (Midtown Detroit). I love their King Salmon roll and other offerings. (not a fan of Tempura at all and can't attest to it) Koja is probably 95% of Bash while being at least 40% less expensive. Like their Michigan Roll is very, very comparable to Bash's King Salmon roll and it's $7 cheaper when ordering online. Koja also has an S and T roll and a Tuna and Tuna roll that compare very favorably to Bash and are much less expensive. I cannot overstate Koja's quality and value. Absolutely dominates locations such as Wasabi Soy in Midtown, Inyo in Ferndale and Sorya Downtown Koja is as authentic as it gets. Highly recommended! read more

I highly recommend this place. It's my last day in Michigan, and I regret not trying it sooner. I would have definitely returned multiple times. The sushi here is incredibly delicious. We ordered the spider roll, firecracker roll, and popcorn roll. My favorite was the firecracker, while my partner loved the spider roll. This spider roll was the best I've had in the states; they prepared it differently, and I enjoyed the texture. The firecracker roll is bursting with flavor, a must-try. I also appreciated that the popcorn roll had perfectly crispy fried shrimp, not overly fried. Their hot stone bibimbap is phenomenal! They used my favorite veggies that complemented the dish perfectly. The service was both fast and excellent. The owner is very friendly, and the locals seem to know him well. Small hole in the wall with incredibly good sushi. Really enjoyed our meal, the owner was so kind, the sushi was so fresh, the space is small but can fit a large party if the place isn't too busy I would probably call ahead. My favorite roll is the Michigan roll, we also got the dragon egg with crab soo good. The owner brought out a new item he plans to feature on the menu and it was amazing can't wait for it to be on the menu. I came to Koja Sushi for my Birthday because they had such great reviews and a good menu for people who like sushi/fish and other Japanese dishes for people who don't like fish. They had a great menu with very affordable prices and delicious menu items, we went in a group of 5 and were impressed by everything! The service was the best part!! Service: A Food: A Great place for some sushi , teriyaki and bibimpap. They get very creative with the sushi and the rolls are very filling. I randomly stumbled across Koja with my gals and we were happy that they had indoor seating during COVID19. The tables were spread apart and it was a neat place! The sushi was so fresh and good, which left me speechless that somewhere in Dearborn could carry such good fish!!! ESPECIALLY THE WHITE TUNA - It's so hard to find a good quality white tuna anywhere. We got the lunch box and a few special rolls. The White Castle roll was really unique and I've never had anything like it! It was super good and changed my life and perspective on baked rolls. What made me fall in love further was the customer service. They were the friendliest people I've met in Michigan and the host was so attentive even while dealing with our indecisiveness. Went to Koja Sushi for takeout and was quite pleased. One doesn't often find Tamago in Michigan, but theirs was excellent! The smoked salmon sashimi was also a pleasant surprise. My boyfriend and I went here on a whim one night and it's our new favorite Asian food spot!!! He had the seafood bibimbap and I had a shrimp tempura roll and the udon. Both of mine were delicious but I will definitely be getting the bibimbap next time as his was delicious!!! The owner was very nice and it was very clean and casual inside. It seems like there's a lot of regulars that knew the owner by name and vice versa! I'm excited to have a new place for Korean/Japanese food since moving away from Ypsi/Ann Arbor. That said, the menu is extensive with plenty of variety, so there really is something for everyone. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Everything tasted fresh and high quality. We ordered the Gyoza, California Roll, Ruby Roll, Tekka Don, and Miso Soup. Everything was good, but the Tekka Don was definitely my favorite, and the Miso Soup was delicious as well. The drinks were probably the biggest disappointment. The beer was overpriced, especially considering the serving sizes and compared to what we've paid for many of the same beers at other restaurants, where they're often available on draft as well. The wine selection could also use some major improvement. Most of the options leaned toward the sweeter side, and the quality just didn't seem to match the quality of the food. Since I couldn't find a wine I wanted, I ordered the Lychee Martini instead. It was okay, but definitely not worth the price, and I wouldn't have ordered a second pretty sweet. The wine and cocktails are priced similarly to what you'd expect to pay for higher-end drinks, but unfortunately, the quality just isn't there. These felt more like $7 drinks being sold at premium prices. Even the presentation of my martini was a little strange--it was garnished with two loose flower petals rather than a full flower, which looked more odd than intentional. Unfortunately, the drink selection would probably be the biggest reason we'd choose carryout or another restaurant next time. When I go out for dinner, having a really good glass of wine or a well-made cocktail is part of the experience for me, especially when the drinks are priced at a premium. Service was friendly, and our server was helpful and knowledgeable, but unfortunately it was slow. It took a while to get drinks, additional soy sauce, or have someone check back with us, and we had to flag our server down several times. To be fair, they definitely weren't standing around doing nothing. Bash seemed to have a steady stream of carryout orders, and our server spent much of our visit packing those orders. We actually felt bad for how slammed they were compared to the rest of the servers. It seems like they either need a dedicated person handling carryout or additional staff so the dine in service doesn't suffer when takeout is busy. Overall, the food was excellent and absolutely worth returning for. With some improvements to the drink selection and staffing, the dine in experience could be just as good as the food.

Over the years we have tried many sushi places, but Koja Sushi is by far the best we have tried so far. The Quality of the fish is amazing, the sashimi was generous and the sushi rolls were filled with generous amounts of fish. The Chef came out to greet us a couple of times and we ended up chatting him for a few minutes. He takes pride in his work, he has over 20 years experience and it shows. He even offered us coplementary salmon sashimi which was from the belly of the fish, and it was by far the best cut of sashimi I have had. He informed us that the meat and chicken on the menu are halal and that was amazing to see. In the past week, we have ordered from Koja sushi 3 times and he hasn't disappointed. read more

This was a great dining experience. Took my daughter in for her birthday present unbenounced to the owner who is also the chef who came out and greeted us and must have spent a half an hour talking to us. We ordered our sushi and I felt received more service and free offers then we actually pay for the food. Incredibly nice incredibly customer oriented has an old-school Japanese feel of the cooks only intention is to make the customer happy and feel good about their food. read more

Honestly. I love sushi a lot and I've tried MANY sushi places and this is the BEST one EVER. I HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone, you can tell they make all of their rolls with love and they put great efforts into their food presentations.
