Went there with a group from work for lunch on July 10, 2012. We had 20+ people in our group and somehow both the hostess AND the manager seemed convinced they could fit all of us around only two of the grills (which barely seat 8 comfortably) and would not budge on that decision. Their food might be good, but their customer service in this respect was substandard. For a restaurant at their price point customer satisfaction should be a higher priority. read more

A wonderful experience! This was my first time at Benihana's and I really enjoyed the experience as a whole. Some friends of mine advised me to make a reservation ahead of time because wait times could be as long as three hours. I went with a friend; when we arrived we were greeted immediately. The greeter was very polite and showed us to a sitting area, where we waited for the other guest who would be sitting at our table to arrive. At Benihana's, they fill every table with about 8-10 guest. You will sit at a table with people you do not know. We were seated about 20 minutes after out arrival. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. I never once had to ask her to remove a unwanted plate or refill a drink. The chef was awesome! He was funny, very professional and skilled. I ordered shrimp, steak, and lobster. My guest had shrimp, and steak. Everything was cooked right in front of us. The chef even had a few tricks for us to see. The food was great! Everything was well seasoned, but not over seasoned, and the garlic butter gave a great taste to the lobster and shrimp. I would definitely go back to Benihana's! The taste of the food plus the entertainment of watching the meal being prepared right before my eyes was amazing. read more

If I could post a lower review I would!!! I placed a to go order and my husband ended up waiting 2 1/2 hours for our order which was only 2 hibachi specials and sushi. I called them to keep asking about my order and they hung up twice because they don't know how to put you on hold. This is absolutely the worst customer service ever and by the time my husband got home the meal was cold and they messed it up read more

If I could give this place Zero stars I would, only this location by the way. The rudest set of staff members ever assembled, they do not greet you at times. I really gave this place at least 5 chances but I am done. I am not sure they allow this type of service. Food is not bad but other locations do make their sushi rolls a bit better. My biggest problem is the everything I try to get carry out no matter the size of the order it's always 1 to 1 hour and a half wait period, then dining in at the sushi bar, I kid you not with about 4-5 tables open is always a wait. If you try to talk to the manager he might as well could tell you just leave never wants to correct the problem. Service is key and this place is a major fail, until they do something about it I will spend my money somewhere else. read more

I know with COVID-19, nothing is normal right now, but if a restaurant is allowing for carryout, there need to be systems put in place to keep people safe and get the food out. We ordered online at 2:00PM for 5:45PM pick-up at the curb. Arrived at 5:50, called for the pick-up outside, was put on hold for 10 minutes, and then was told they were backed up and it would be awhile. Called again at 6:30, told 15 more minutes and then didn't get our food until 7:30. (And it ended up being cold and wasn't made well! There were egg shell pieces in the rice!) Meanwhile, while waiting outside, I saw other people going inside to try and figure out what was going on, but they were being held in the waiting room and were standing close together. Again, I know its rough right now but please get some systems in place or reduce the amount of orders you can process to keep people safe and take care of your employees! read more

Took the family here last night and we had such a great time. It took quite a bit of time for the chef to begin but once he did my two boys were amazed and had a good time. Portions are large and you get soup and salad. Thankfully restaurant was not packed. I would come back again though. read more

I waited almost two hours for a table. We told hostess we would sit at the bar and wait. When we questioned the long wait, we were told we were called but did not respond. We waited a additional 15 minuets and left. Their seating system is horrible. I will never go back again. If you like to be treated horribly this is your place to be. read more

Horriable experience with the staff and the manager Rachel. The staff does not treat their guest like paying patrons. One of out members in our party was late past the BH 15 min late arrival time policy. We decided to wait anyway, we where celebrating a birthday and had family with us from out of state. Our wait time was over an hour while several parties cane in and were seated. We inquired three different times when would we be seated all three times we were told we were at the top of the list, so we waited. After witnessing other late parties being seated and other guest being quietly escorted to the back I spoke up and asked what was going on. Rachel the manager told my party that she explain to my group that we where on a special priority list and she was sorry that we couldn't understand what she explain to us. Rachel never spoke to me nor my party not once! Then asked me if I knew the difference between a GM and Manager. I have a MBA and all of my party members hold college degrees as well. The treatment that we experienced in this establishment and especially from this manager was truly my far one of the worst treatments I received from any establishment and changed my thoughts about this restaurant. I did a case study in school about this restaurant and thought it would be a nice addition to our holiday festivities but I was so mistaken. I would never visit this location again! read more

Well, Benihana, you've just lost my business and are in real danger of being reported to the health department. My family and I went for dinner tonight for my birthday. We've been coming for years. One of your chefs deviated from the usual cooking antics by squirting some type of liquid out of a toy plastic toilet directly over our plates and drinks. He then acted as if he would squirt ketchup out of a pretend bottle and struck me in the face with it. Not exactly ServeSafe, wouldn't you say? Disgusting, AND ruined my dinner. Happy Birthday, eh? read more

I've been wanting to try this place since its always busy. Once your seated there is a wait till the chef arrives. Once the chef arrived he seemed like he didn't want to be there. he kept looking around at other tables and performed only one trick, the choo choo train. Im glad i had reservations otherwise I'd be disappointed if i were expecting a big show. On the plus side, the staff is nice and the food is ok. You will leave very full and smelling like grease that doesn't go away until you wash your clothes and hair. read more

This is proof positive you should Yelp before leaping. Food was good, service was slow and awful. Huge wait just to sit - over an hour. Room was smoky, drink refills were almost non-existent. This place is in desperate need of management. On the positive side, it must be difficult to screw up this food, because the food was pretty good which could not have been planned. And...if you want a show, you will have to get lucky in your chef assignment. read more

I received terrible customer service from Rachel the manager at Benihana Dearborn. She is very aggressive with her words, she is very unprofessional and nasty. There was miscommunication with my order today and the waitress notified her because of the situation being above her position. Rachel walks over to the table grabs my plate from in front of me and my sister whom is a minor while we are eating and tells us to leave. I was livid and that's just the beginning. I'm VERY disappointed and I WILL NOT be dining at this restaurant again. She was disrespectful and her customer service put a bad taste in my mouth. While googling and looking up this location on Facebook there are a lot of complaints about RACHEL THE MANAGER AT BENIHANA DEARBORN. Will anything ever be done regarding her customer service? As a manager you are supposed to treat the customer with respect that's #1. Also there weren't any complaints on my end regarding my food. I just wanted extra shrimp chicken and vegetables that I was willing to pay for! Nothing was sent back and nothing was dissatisfying. The problem did not occur until RACHEL THE MANAGER AT BENIHANA DEARBORN made it. I've called the corporate office and I'm only getting their voicemail. I need someone to reach out to me very soon regarding RACHEL THE MANAGER AT BENIHANA DEARBORN. I'm unhappy! read more

LOL where do I begin with my First time Experience with Benihana. Me and my girls decide to come here because I have never been before. so we get in they tell us about an hour to be seated in the diner area but 30 mins for the bar and sushi bar ;we wait when we get seated its no body in the bar area, so we were a little confused as to why they are giving inccurate wait times. Now please keep in mind we all work in the resturant industry so we know what great serivce is and that we did not recieve it. Our server took 10/15 mins before coming to the table to greet us, didnt even recommend any good drinks or good dishes. she didnt even mention her name, she was short and rude with us, took 20 mins to get our soup and salad which we had to remind her of, our sushi came out first, then our dishes came our shortly after that. one of my friends wanted to order a side of steak took 30 plus mintues to come out, . At this pointed we wanted to speak with a manager. First we speak with the asian lady she wasnt any kind of assitances to our problems then had the nerve to tell us well you need to take that up with your server. Are you freaking kidding me?? your suppose to be a manager to correct the problem and she did none of that. We asked to speak with another manager and Ohhhh boy he (heavier set white guy) wasnt much help either, he seemed uninterested in our bad serivce, had nothing to say after we all complained to him about the waitress and the other manager. The waitress also used the chocolate scooper for the villina ice cream, Not very clean. After both managers spoke with our waitress about our services we ask for carry out boxes and she throws them at us, still with a nasty ass attutide. Over all for the money you pay is WELL worth it, food is great but the serivce lacks horribly, managment is shit and could care less. I will never come back to this location, Hopefully the other locations will change my mind about this business! read more

Never had such a bad experience at a restaurant, second time going, and I ordered the vegetarian plate which is the one and only option for vegetarians and even had to order extra side of noodles and still not barely any food, my rice was not fried with garlic and seasoning like everybody else's with chicken and was not aware I had to "tell them to fry mine" they should of made me aware of that, only vegetarian plate at the table and didn't even get any of the mushrooms being cooked ? got onions and zucchini for vegetables and that was it? really vegetarians get a couple bites of plain white rice onions zucchini and some nasty undercooked tofu? for that price no. went to o'samurai and it was such a big difference much better service more food and better quality. And my rice was fried like everyone else's. Also O'samurai cooked my food before cooking the rest of the tables meat unlike at this Benihana's. chef was very boring and seemed new or just not trained well, O'samurai was much more interacting with the customers and knew what they were doing. Must be going downhill and losing money bc when the manager called he had an excuse for everything and offered me 15 percent off my next visit LOL, what a joke you get 30 dollars for a birthday but 15 percent for that bad of an experience, won't be coming back and neither will many people I know now. Good look running that place! read more

There were 4 of us celebrating my son's birthday. It was not a good experience from the very beginning. The host who seated us was not very welcoming. I had no utensils and had to get up to search for someone to get them for me. It was over an hour before the chef, who absolutely had no personality, showed up and way too long for the food to be cooked. By the time the vegetables were cooked, the shrimp and chicken were cold. My grandson got his white rice long after everyone had eaten their meal. My grandson had gotten his Sprite in a regular glass when we discovered they had these cute Ninja cups for kids. We ordered it and were told that the Ninja cup was $5 and we would be charged for one Sprite. We were charged for 2 Sprites, and $7 for the Ninja cup. We had ordered one bottle of wine but were charged for 2 bottles of wine. And because it was my son's birthday, the waitress made a big deal of having a picture taken to remember the moment. We finally agreed and that was the last we saw of our waitress. No picture was ever taken. I can kick myself for leaving a tip and not speaking to the manager. This is a birthday that won't be forgotten! read more

We waited for over an hour at the table waiting for a chef to come to the table. I spoke to the manager named, Reece, who never came back to respond to our original questions. A chef leisurely reported to our table and started our meal. The manager adjusted our bills with a discount that didn't make since. The discount was applied afte deducting the birthday coupon but the gratuity is applied before the discount. After I questioned him about the discount, his response was to walk away with the half justification as a reasonable explanation. I would not recommend this Benihana to anyone! The wait time to be seated is always excessive and now there is an additional wait to get your food. Spend your money somewhere else! read more

Foods always good but service is the worse!!!!! Embarrassing that this is a Benihana! I would definitely drive the 30 mins to go to another location this one sucks!!!!.... Rude horrible read more

The wait time is terrible. The plates, grill and including glass were greasy and dirty. The staff attitude was the worst. Reviews were right about the service. Tried to give them a chance. A hour and a half wasted and still no food, we walked out. One of the employees yelled out "Fuck them then". Now hows that customer service. read more

This was the worst service I've ever had. I waited two hours on a Tuesday for a party of two. I checked in with the host stand and was ignored and they refused to give me a quote time for the hibachi side. Throughout the wait I checked in three times to see how much longer and on the third time they had said they already called me and skipped to the next person. I was sitting in a clearly visible place and had random eye contact with a host every now and then so it's not like she didn't see me. One of the hosts said I'd get some discount on the bill for the inconvenience, which was nice but I also expected a manager to come by the table. That never happened. Moreover, not only did it take our server 10 minutes to bring out waters for the table, she was the slowest and worst server I've ever had in my life. She didn't explain anything about the menu and I had never been there before, and also didn't mention to all 8 people at her table that fried rice costs an extra $4 per side, so considering me and my other person both had double sides of it, that's an extra $16 just for rice. She also offered us our desserts as an option as she was trying to get us to pay for our bills and leave, even though they were included in the meal. This was the worst experience I've ever had, and the only reason of why I sat through this terrible experience is because there aren't many places in the areas with the hibachi cuisine, and because my other person had a craving for it. I thought it would be nice to try something new, but I will never return to this location. The only good thing was the food and the cook. read more

i went in may for my roommate's birthday since she had the $30 certificate. we did the tapenyaki grill. it was okay, scallops were a little small. i was not pleased that a drink was $9! jeez..anyways, we went again for my birthday and decided to not sit forever and go to the lounge and do sushi..it was good, except they forgot one of my rolls, so i had to wait about 10 minutes for them to come. and we had 3 separate people delivering our stuff since our waitress went MIA read more

Worst service ever sat in the lobby for 3 hours, keep being told there is 6-5 group ahead of us. We where a group of 2 people.

I usually don't fret going to Asian food restaurants as a vegan because they usually have a good handful of options but this was not the case with dinner at benihana. I ended up getting a few little things to put together a meal and it cost wayy too much. Also they seem to have more veggie options at lunch but as far as dinner it's pretty much just a veggie sushi roll, soup & veggie tempura all of the flavors were quite basic. read more

My boyfriend and I came here on our trip to Dearborn. It was a busy Saturday night, the first available reservation was 10. We were a little concerned, since the restaurant closes at 10:30, about how rushed we would feel - but thankfully, we were able to take our time. We sat at hibachi, the chef was very friendly. Our waitress wasn't great at checking the table, but another waitress caught on and started to take over when she thought we might need something. My boyfriend had the shrimp hibachi, I had the Land N Sea - we both enjoyed our meals, though we have had better hibachi (and cheaper) back home. My meal description stated it came with sorbet or Haagen Daz, this was not offered (though I was too full to care). Overall, an enjoyable experience. read more

I haven't been able to get past the front desk for lunch. Walked in alone on 3 different occasions and I've been put off to the side saying there will be a wait. My problem is when I look into the dining room and 70% of tables are empty and all I asked for was to sit at the sushi bar, which was completely empty. Just don't have the time to stand around for 20 minutes for a lunch break. Years ago this place was great... don't know what happened. read more

Ambiance is boring and food is mediocre for the price. Average Japanese steak house type food. Drinks were decent but that was about it.

Food is great. Service is horrible. Don't waste your time trying to call for anything - they literally do not answer.

First off, the grill had so much old caked on food it was disgusting. The waitress seemed to hate her job. They gave me the wrong appetizer and then tried charging me for both. The "chef" Moe was technically ok at best but had no clue as to the order of preparing food. I ordered a steak rare which takes 30-45 seconds yet it was cooked first. The shrimp appetizer was cooked last. Didn't get the dipping sauces until after I was finished eating and ready to box up leftovers. We had asked twice during the meal for the sauce but the waitress said the chef would get it. I went to a manager (Kenneth). He adjusted the bill by $15, it should've been free considering it got cold waiting for the rest of my party's food to be done and there was no sauce to dip it in. Overall, I wouldn't give this place another chance nor would I recommend it to anyone. The time before this is was also subpar but I dealt with it. I will be going to Canton or Novi instead. read more

The food was good only because they made it fresh and in front of your face. But unfortunately I was horrified after I found a bigsindustrial sized staple in my dessert! This is a one time one star rating. Normally they average 4 stars. I go often after work and for family functions. Yesterday was the worst. Lately there has been lack of help at Happy hour but never like this. The old guy was alone and servers are demanding drinks, patrons at bar are waiting to order. Finally he gets a second person to help and I ASSumed it would get better but it was his break relief. She too was overwhelmed and telling servers to make their own lemonade and several orders behind. I waited 20 minutes just to get water refilled. Another 10 to cash out. I did ask for manager twice, especially after having to listen to the workers argue about who has time for what. Ken, the manager never came to address my issues. Lastly the rice was awful and carry out is now being served in a plastic bowl and taste like the bowl it's served in. read more

Three of us showed for dinner around 4:00PM on a Saturday without a reservation (we knew better!). The hostess told us a 3 hour wait for the hibachi grill. We had a craving and agreed to wait! We grabbed a spot at the bar where we had amazing drinks! The appetizers were good; but very very small for what we paid. Unfortunately we had to wait the entire 3 hours for a grill table. When we got there, our server was quick and brought drinks soups and salads right away. We waited about 35 minutes though for our chef to come out. Thankfully we had a table that was patient and enjoying conversation and didn't complain however tables behind us were not as calm. Our server apologized for the wait and advised the manager was going to discount our bills which was a nice gesture. Once the chef showed up, we were very entertained and had an excellent dinner. Next time we will make a reservation but the food and service was great! read more

I thought this place was wonderful. The food is prepared right at your table while the chef is busy doing all kinds of tricks with his cooking utensils and basically putting on a show for everyone. It is a three coarse meal starting with soup, then salad, then main course. The food is prepared the way you want it and is delicious. The only thing I didn't really care for is due to the fact that you have your own chef and grill, you share a table with four other couples or what have you. The only reason I disliked this is because there was some snotty bitch with her hideous boyfriend staring at me...Lol. But, I had a great time and the food was super tasty! I recommend it to anyone who wants to try something new and different. read more

I absolutely loved this place. The host are very friendly and greet you with smiles as you walk through the doors. I am extremely disappointed. I love Benihana and came here with some work friends during lunch last Friday to celebrate my birthday. We were seated at our reservation time and order taken promptly enough. Soup and salad came out with drinks after about 20 minutes and that was the last time we saw our waiter for the next half hour. After about 30 minutes of waiting (so been there almost an hour now) a member of our group had to chase down our waiter to find out why we don't have a chef yet and get refills. He says there's an issue with the computer, chef will be out shortly (also, had just been on a smoke break. He smelled horribly of cigarette smoke). He disappears again and after 20 more minutes without a chef or waiter, we chase down a hostess who assures us our chef is coming. At this point we said if he's not out in 5 minutes we have to leave - we only have so long for lunch. This is when the manager finally comes over and gives us a half baked excuse about the computers being down and having to hand write the orders? Not sure why that takes an hour to do? Finally the chef came out. Poor guy knew we were all angry at this point and we told him just to cook the food, we have time for the show. To the chef's credit, he was fine. This wasn't his fault. He rushed and cut corners (didn't get our sauces, food really wasn't that great). The manager ended up giving us 50% off, but even that wasn't worth the time wasted and having to chase employees down to even know what's going on and a waiter that smelled like a giant cigarette. read more
