Reservation at 7p. Seated at 7:15. As of 8:30 still waiting on chef to cook our food. Wouldn't recommend it unless your time is worthless.

Gone downhill. Food has gotten worse and portions smaller. Restaurant so bad it has security guards. Then to top it off they charge you a service charge that is not posted on any menu, sign or anything. What a joke... $30.00 birthday coupon then take it back with service charge. We will never go back there. If your into terrible food, extra charges and 1.5 hour waits and no parking..this is your restaurant. Never ever again read more

Service was poor. Expected a leisurely dining experience, instead I felt rushed from ordering drinks to placing meal order. While still eating salad and soup, dishes were being cleared abruptly and our cook was not yet at grill. Meal includes tea and dessert of which I wasn't offered or served. Price is too high for the quality of meal and service. Wait staff should have been aware that we didn't get tea and dessert. I expected a real show from the grill it was very disappointing. read more

Do. Not. Eat. Here. I've come in multiple occasions and completely regretted it because I got food poisoning each and every time. I'm scared to eat anything the comes from this place. The staff is always rude and when I had a reserved party they forgot to reserve the table and were scrambling to find one last minute while we all had to wait. read more

The staff is not particularly friendly. Even the hostess acts rude. Make a reservation and you have to wait. Why can't this place offer better friendly service. The prices are high and I am not likely to come here anymore. read more

This used to be my favorite place to go, but after the poor service received tonight I will not be back. We took our grandson for the first time so he could see the chef show but The chef was too lazy to put on any kind of a show even though he was specifically asked to do the onion volcano, he relied he would do it after he was done cooking the food, he didn't do it stating he ran out of onions. The waitress was very slow with our one and only drink refill request and even though our meals should have included ice cream, 3 Samurai treats and 1 kids meal, she never asked us if we wanted any ice cream or even hot tea at the end of our meals, and she never came to box our left overs and we boxed our own food. Lastly since when does the chef cook food for himself while cooking our food? Since tonight apparently because that's exactly what he did, took food away for himself from the food he prepared for us. I've been visiting this location since 1981 when it was Kyotos and continued after it changed to Benihana and can't believe how much the quality has declined in the last year, very disappointing, very sad, I will not be back. read more

I frequent this location in Dearborn due to it being my favorite! I was there on Thursday to celebrate my birthday as I do every year! This was by far thee worst experience I ever had here and will consider it being my last! To make a long story short the wait was long as usual at 2:30pm. When the cook Patricia arrive she wasn't pleasant at all but we still have her the benefit of the doubt. She end up walking off the grill after just cooking the rice because we asked for extra butter on the rice. We had to wait for a new cook rice already cooked horribly and getting cold! We asked the manager did she walk off the grill Shawn was his name I think black guy he said "yeah" like that was the norm where I work its job abandonment!!! Needless to say the customers weren't right we complained to two different managers. The rice was taken off the table bill do to it sitting and the new cook Armando attempted to change the vibe. The food here is not cheap to be treated any kind of way I will be contacting corporate!!!!! read more

My friend and I went here for lunch and had a reservation at 12. We were seated pretty fast which was great. Once we were sat, we immediately asked what we wanted to eat and drink without having any time to look at the menu. Chef was good, the food tasted good. However, I felt like I was being rushed the entire time. As soon as the chef left, our waitress immediately brought over boxes and our bills. Didn't have a lot of time to eat. I told them I wasn't done yet but I would need a box later. A few minutes later, a guy came over and started to clean our table while we were still eating. Thought it was very rude. read more

Food is excellent, chef's are wonderful.... however management, not so much. If no problems, you're all set. However..... if there is a problem, such as being overcharged, you've got a problem! Management states that it's fine with him if you stay there all day making a scene but he's not going to correct the bill in the way that it should be corrected. I have never ever had a correction made to my credit card charge and not received a credit slip. Well at Benihana under no circumstances will you get a credit slip showing the overcharge being removed. You have to take their word for it. Although the food was excellent and the chef charming and funny, my entire luncheon experience was spoiled. read more

Food was outstanding. Chef's sorcery was just ok and the waitstaff was terrible. Not very attentive, messing up orders, forgetting things, but worst of all, rude. The food was so good I have trouble giving it less than two but I'm not sure I'll be returning to this location anytime soon. read more

We go for the Sushi. It is very reasonable and the best in town. We have gotten to know our waitress very well. We did eat at the grill and watched the show, and that was nice but too expensive and not waht we like. If you are sushi fan, you won't find a better place to sit and relax and eat sushi. read more

I will never go there again. I hadn't been there since it was Kyoto and I must say, this stands out as one of the absolute WORST dining experiences I've ever had. I took my 2 adult children there for their birthday. First of all, I had reservations and still had to wait. And then, I think they forgot about us. I fiinally asked when we were going to be seated (we were in the bar) and they finally "woke up" and found our table. We were seated with some of the rudest people I've ever had to sit with (since you have to share a table). One lady spent 90% of the time on her cell phone EVEN WHEN THE WAITRESS WAS GOING OVER THE MENU CHOICES. And she had a kid who ran all over the place. Someone should have said something, I almost left but since it was my children's birthday, I did not want to make a scene and try to find somewhere else to eat. I thought maybe I was just being overly sensitive. To me the decor was run-down looking and just plain awful. The chef (at the table) and the waitress were good, although my son didn't get something he ordered and I had to ask again, she did her best but had a tough time with those rude people at the table. One guy was getting drunk as the meal progressed. The food was OK but too expensive for what you get. IF you go with your own group of people and get a table to yourself, it might be OK and kind of a neat experience with the cook making your food in front of you. But I'd never go back and when I called and complained to the manager, I was told I must have the wrong restaurant because they recently updated the interior (?????) and it didn't sound like the restaurant I was describing. I can't imagine how bad it was before if this was updated. Did they really think I ddin't know which restaurant I was at?. I was promised a coupon to make up for my awful experience, not that I wanted to go back but felt like we deserved something for the awful dinner AND NEVER GOT IT AND THEY WOULD NEVER RETURN MY CALLS. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. TAKE MY ADVICE AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. read more

This place has really went down hill in the last couple of years. The phone line was down for a week and when I finally got a hold of someone Thursday it was too late and I had a birthday coupon .. So I made reservations for Friday. When I went to print my coupon it said only valid through mon-Thurs! I called to see if I could possibly use it since I couldn't get a hold of anyone to make reservations for Thursday like I planned. The manager said no and its Verizon's problem. I'm like I spend at least 200.00 every time I come here & he said sorry don't know what to tell you. I just will go to o' Samuri or sushi kami and give them my business. I wish I had corporates number. read more

Was on hold for over 45 minutes waiting to make a reservation for a reception of 50-60 people in January. No one ever answered the phone-even if they had just said they were full for the evening and call back another day, I might have considered business there. Rudeness before being a customer is unacceptable. Will never eat at any of this chains restaurants again read more

Tried callilng for three days to make a reservation at this restaurant. Problem? No one answered the phone. Very frustrating when you are trying to make arrangements for a celebration dinner. Forget it. I went somewhere else. The last time we had dinner here (with an actual reservation) we still had to wait for an hour to be seated. Was the wait worth it? Not really. I suppose they think while you are waiting you will be drinking from the bar. By the way, if you have a birthday coupon and your birthday is on a weekend night, the coupon cannot be sued. Happy celebration elsewhere! read more

Honestly the absolute worst service I have ever experienced in my entire life. Every single time I call whether it's to make a reservation or to place a carry out order it rings for a minute and then I am hung up on. On several different locations. Both other locations are great at customer service!! I will NEVER give Dearborn benihna my service again. read more

The food was very good! But I felt so rushed. As soon as the chef left the people came with boxes. I had no time to enjoy my food whatsoever. Then they started cleaning the table while I was still sitting there eating. read more

I did not have a good experience. 12/28 My family and I arrived. Had a 8:30 reservation. We were sat down at 8:30. however a chef did not come over to us until 1 hour and 10 min. later. The bathrooms were dirty. We lerft there around 12. Claudia our cook was awesome. read more

I took my wife out last night and we had a blast! It was our first time there, and if you don't mind meeting new people this is a great way. Our chef was entertaining and the food was decent. I had the hibachi chicken and it was very tasty with the sauce. I would go again just because the atmosphere is very energetic, and the next time I would try something new because they have a very vast menu. read more

I've always been a Benihana lover and this Benihana is great because its in a great location. The only negative about this place is that it is always busy, it doesn't matter what day or time that you go. The food is amazing and the chefs are hilarious. I love this place. read more

You need to shower afterward as smell of food just stick on your hair. Sushi was good however service was average as the waitress can not explain the menu read more

We had a party of 11 last Saturday night with reservations. We still had to wait 10 minutes for a table. Our server came by to introduce herself, but said she'd be back to take out order. We asked if we could at least do our drink order as we had 6 kids with us. She said we had to wait. When she finally came back to take our order, we waited another 20 minutes for drinks. We ordered our food and done ordered noodles instead of rice. No mention of any up charge for any of this. The chef came and we was very good. We finally got our bills and we were all surprised at the up charges for the noodles etc. Also there was a service fee in each bill. We asked the server and she said that's not the tip it's for parties of 10 or more that know each other. WHAT does that mean???? So we were all charges this crazy service fee and we were expected to tip? NO WAY. Very shady business practices Benihana. I will NOT be back! Ridiculously expensive bill for myself and one child and no alcohol. read more

I worked here for a year it was great experience and had to move on. Sure learned a lot from his job met amazing people like Robert Chezik, Richard Benitez, Rey, Ryan and Salvador. This place a was a tough place to work very fast paced. It was really fun to work with both Salvador and Robert Chezik both the of them where always joking and where in great mood most of the time. Salvador was one of Benihanas strange characters but manged to be one of the most impactful to Benihana. Robert Chezik was also a character to recon with. With the combination of these two dishwashers and myself included we managed to wash the dishes soo damn clean that we would get tipped from the customer from time to time. We where legendary dishwashers. I was even confirmed later down the line...and I quote Richard Benitez (18 years of Benihana Exp) " in all my 18 years of experience you are for sure the best dishwasher Benihana has ever had". Furthermore, we where just and unstoppable force that not even on Mother's Day would we get backed up. We also had random compliments from customers about how clean dishes where. We got to the point where customer where requesting of us to wash a specific dish to their liking. With all that being said I can without a doubt say that although I may have moved on from his job...I can guarantee you Benihana will continue to have clean dishes. :) read more

Worst place to go EVER if you want to be seated, waited on, and treated respectfully. Reservations...yes...seated late after asking several times (and being made to feel that we were interrupting the hostess and security guard while they were hanging out). Phone was ringing off the hook and they just sat there talking. The seven of us decided to grab a drink at the bar while we continued to wait. After being ignored for about 15 minutes, we called over to the bartender to order drinks and she handed us menus, wiped her hands and said "shift change." 10 minutes later...nothing. We were finally seated after asking about our table again and our Chef didn't communicate with us at all (aside from one of sharing that our Friend had never been to Detroit before. His response: "This isn't Detroit." It was unfortunate that we chose this restaurant to get a group together who hadn't seen each other all year. It was even more unfortunate when the manager was not apologetic the next day (or even surprised). Steer clear. This place needs new management and better staff. Not a great representation of our area. read more

What could have been a memorable experience ended with unexpected charges. This review is for the Dearborn location. If you are on a budget, be sure to ask "Is it included in the meal" It has been a few years since I had been to a Japanese hibachi grill/steakhouse. My guest had never been to one. When the waitress took our order of Filet mignon, she asked us if we wanted chicken fried rice or shrimp fried rice. She asked in a way that implied it was part of the meal. She could have said would you like to ADD an appetizer of chicken or shrimp fried rice? She mentioned do you want one bowl or two? She said some people like to have an extra bowl. We all ordered one bowl of rice. Instead of the meal subtotal being $50 it was $60. When the manager came over to discuss, she did not offer to take anything off and implied that we were stupid because the menu does not list fried rice, only steamed rice - the hibachi page of the menu did not have fried rice listed as a separate appetizer item. When I suggested the waitress could have presented the chicken or shrimp fried rice as a separate menu appetizer item, she said the waitress would not want to imply we could not afford the meal. No, imply that we are stupid at the end of the meal when they are singing happy birthday to everyone. I had budgeted $60 (tax+tip) - $25 birthday coupon= $35 for this meal and payed $72 (tax+tip) - $25 birthday coupon = $47 Twenty percent more!! And we were overfilled from $10 of rice I would have preferred steamed and served with the main course. How was everything else? The chef was great with preparing the meal and very entertaining. The menu was out of order due to someone at our table having a food allergy of shrimp - the majority of the "shrimp appetizer" went to someone who ordered shrimp as the dinner. The Filet mignon was very tender a few pieces had gristle. Lots of salt in the meal, you may ask to have it prepared differently. The other couple at the table mentioned the Troy location does not charge for "fried rice". My friend had issues with stomach pains after the meal. I will not go to the Dearborn location again. For the cost of even one of two $5 appetizers, the management of Benihana opted to lose these two customers. read more
