I was at the hibachi grill for lunch. I have had a better experience and better food at other grills. The amount of butter they used in making the fried rice can kill ppl right away. I think i also tried the tempura roll and it was just ok. read more

DO NOT LET THEM SEAT YOU IN THE CORNER TABLE BY THE EXIT DOOR. YOU WILL FREEZE!! I just want to warn you so u fully enjoy your experience. I was visiting from Chicago and always enjoy benihanas. The host are rude. But the waiters were sweet! We waited more then one hour. They forgot bout us.

i have never in life experienced the service that i have in this establishment !!!!!! ever!!! and i work in this industry.. i waited on the phone for 20 minutes only for the young lady to tell me that they are no longer taking carry out orders i could try to come in.. me: well i've waited for a semi-long time and what if i don't make it in time to place the order. employee : you just try to catch us tomorrow. well im not sure about anyone else but that wasnt the response i was looking for never the less... the next day i waited for 32minutes and made it to the restaurant for them to still have not picked up the phone to even attend to the customer not only is it offensive it was. poor customer service!!! the novi and troy location services are much better! sorry but not sorry! read more

I havent been to Benihana in quite some time but this is prob one of the experiences ive had. It started with our servers switching due to a guest at our table being upset about not being able to use her bday coupon during lunch hrs. After being asked twice for drink and appetizer orders we waited an hr to have our dinner cooked just to have to wait another 5-10min due to the cook being at the wrong table. I understand mistakes happen but goodness an hr wait at the table when its not even busy. read more

The two female "hostesses" did not greet us and acted as though they were in a contest to not have to take our name. The bartender was overwhelmed. It took a while for her to take our order then never served the tap beer I ordered. She also used a curse word over some minor mistake she made. The electronics and cords above the bar are covered in a thick blanket of dust that could easily be seen from the barstools. When being seated, the gentleman calling our name called out the incorrect name taken down by the 'hostesses'. Luckily, it sounded close so he checked for us. At our grill table, there was old food remnants sitting on the grill. Every person at our table found our waitress to be rude. She spoke too fast and mumbled and treated us like we were surprise guests of a roommate she despised. She was attitudinal with another lady at the table (who was very nice, by the way). Our chef Kyle was great. He thoroughly cleaned our grill before and after cooking. He went back to the kitchen to get our sauce bowls because the waitress didn't have them there. He also went back to the kitchen to get yum yum sauce that another couple asked for and he repeatedly asked the waitress for. The food was excellent and he put a lot of effort into his work. He made up for the shortcomings of our server. This restaurant needs to step it up with cleanliness and the overall attitude of most of the employees we encountered. This restaurant charges upscale prices and the experience should reflect that but doesn't. read more

OK my fellow yelpers, Benihana's is like one of my favorite restaurants! It is the bomb! The chicken fried rice with garlic butter is glorious! My taste buds dance with joy!...... Now here is the key to ordering only one order of chicken fried rice, add 2oz of xtra chicken, 1 xtra egg! You literally have 2 orders of rice there...... The only downside I have in my experience of going there is one of the managers could use some more customer service training, dude is waayy behind in that area, I just act as if he doesn't exist & keep it moving. Bon Appetite! read more

Been here a few times. Told it would be a 30 min wait and turned into well over an hour despite most of the lounge filled with open tables. But there were plenty of staff behind the hostess desk fooling around while the lobby was packed with people waiting. Maybe hire another waiter and let one of the 4 hostesses leave? Food was just ok. My $10 drink was so tiny and gone in 2 sips. Quality has really went downhill here. read more

The average is 2.5 stars on yelp but for us, it was definitely a 4. The food was great. The service was great. Our chef had a great personality. Did the triple and it was fabulous. Steak, chicken and scallops. The scallops were amazing. Definitely recommend to anyone in the area. read more

It's unfortunate this location has the best food. There is always 5+ empty tables here and always a2 hour wait. Today I came in with some office people who just wanted some apps and drinks. We sat in the bar area for 25 min and not once were we approached. On my way out I spoke to the manager to let her know of the situation and said we were leaving. She said "well, normally over there you have to physically get up an go up to the bar, that's how things work" I said you have 6 tables full of people just starting at each other and the bartender because we need service, and you are telling me I need to get up and order drinks and appetizers for multiple people. She said she would serve us herself however my party had already walked out. I have been going to this location for 12 years. It was always slow, but has recently gotten kinda ridiculous. Nothing will ever change here cause the food is absolutely amazing. Just set aside 3 hours if you are trying to eat here read more

It's one of those situations where you so badly wish you could give more stars but after coming here several times with my boyfriend, both for lunch and dinner, the second star is pure sympathy. I have never seen a person that works there smile..not.once..the place is depressing. We sit in the sushi lounge and my boyfriend gets a lunch boat that he loves and I always get something from the grill. The food is always pretty decent however we never eat together. His lunch boat comes out and mine comes out 25 minutes later..not an exaggeration. He is finished with his meal and then has to watch me eat. I Usually leave hungry with my meal in a to go box. I go back because my boyfriend loves it but I am willing to drive to Novi now because the service and lack of management at the restaurant is just unbelievable in the wrong way. read more

I have never been to Benihana before and was looking forward to checking it out. We had a reservation for 5 of us at 6:00 at the Dearborn location. 4 of us arrived at 5:50. We were told that we could not be seated until the 5th person arrived. We were also told that if the 5th did not arrive by 6:15 our reservation would be canceled and we would be put on "stand by". I asked how long the wait was without a reservation. There was no one waiting and there were several empty tables. We were on a time schedule as we had tickets to a show at 8:00. The hostess had "absolutely no idea" they were "totally booked". The 5th person was caught in traffic and gave us her food order as she was afraid she would not arrive until after the 6:15 deadline. The hostess refused to seat us at 6:15 even after we told her that our 5th person would arrive shortly and that we would order for her and she could join us when she arrived. The hostess then stated again that she could not even give us any kind of a guess as to how long we would have to wait after the last person arrived. I wish I would have asked to speak to her manager. They were 4 or 5 other workers also standing around the hostess during our conversations. No one said a word. We were all so frustrated by this point. I have never dealt with anyone so inflexible and unaccommodating. I guess I will never go to Benihana read more

I get how you have to rsvp and all but when you get there on time you still have to wait another 20 mins or so to get seated which is ridiculous. This place disappoints me EVERY time, it's the closest location to me but it's the worst! I tried several times to try and give them a chance but between the inexperience chefs that they choose to keep on staff to the unprofessional waitresses and management staff. We went to Benihana's for the first time for Mother's Day. Thank goodness we had a reservation since it would have been a three hour wait. NO restaurant is worth waiting three hours to eat! I enjoyed the experience and the food. Brought most of my dinner home which I was looking forward to eating my leftovers the next day. However, a video on Facebook on the night we ate there showed a roach in someones salad.... still alive and and swimming in the dressing. Needless to say, the leftovers were put in the garbage can. I would not eat at that restaurant now that I saw this video. Robin B read more

The Hostess and host were pleasant but professionalism lacked. the wait time was greater than an hour to be expected on a Friday night. The hostess called my name and another parties name then had me wait again because the other party could not be found this happened 3 times adding another 20- 30 minutes to wait time. Hostess Knowing my name yelled it out while standing directly next to me all three times. When we did get to or table waitress was very friendly and courteous, explaining the ins and outs of restaurant and taking our drink and appetizer order. All other parties at our table had their appetizers served in a timely manner. After 45 min of no appetizer, I inquired about mine. Waitress appeared shocked I did not receive it, and went to inquire about the wait. She came back to me stating, "They had to bake your roll, that is what is taking so long" I was taken back considering I ordered a sushi roll wondering why they were baking it, I told her just to cancel the order, however another server at the same time brought out my lovely cold sushi roll (Not a baked one). Waitress said, "I m not sure what is going on I am going to get you a manager you should not of had to wait so long." The manager arrived at my table and asked if everything was okay I told her the waitress got her because of the 45 minute wait for sushi roll. She then told me rudely in front of all guest at table quite, "You did not wait 45 minutes for that." I politely told her ( because I had a 6 year old with me) That it was actually longer it was 45 minutes when I asked were it was. she rudely walked from the table stating "I will have to look at the ticket." I was appalled by her attitude and asked to see another manager not for the lateness of our food but the extreme unprofessional manner the manager spoke to me. The other Parties at the table were too upset by her attitude, telling the waitress how rude she was. This brings us now to our wait time at this table we sat there for over 2 hours before the cook came out all parties where becoming agitated at the wait, We were told by waitress that this is normal wait time that it sometimes can be up to 4 hours however assured us our cook would be out momentarily. When cook did come out; he was pleasant and entertaining for the child I brought there, I was grateful for him decreasing her anxiety levels over the very long wait time. Dinner was cooked quickly and it was fairly good. Please note you are paying for the entertainment the food is not worth the $$$$. In the mean time no other manager came to speak to me, but the rude one did come back to the table, and with out a beat threw her waitress under the bus saying it was all her fault ( the waitresses) she did not put the order in timely. I again was taking back by her unprofessional attitude. being an operator of a small company I would never tell a client that it was my in-subordinate's fault for their issue or complaints. (that waitress works for tips she could of hurt her pocket) I simply told her she needed further managerial training and to improve her customer relation skills and the way she spoke to people. Needless to say I will not be returning to this restaurant nor would I recommend it. 1. Over priced food, 2. 18% gratuity put on bill for any size party, we had a party 4, 3 adults one child (which I feel is unfair to the good servers, when it is customary to tip 20-25%.) 3. Unprofessional staff 4. Wait time, our total time in this restaurant from walking in doors and out was over 5 hours. In case your wondering why I didn't walk out; I did want to, however I was there at the request of a 6 year old child who was looking forward to seeing the chief cook and throw food. Upon my departure the waitress did tell me that if I called in the morning and spoke to the main manager they would give me a complementary meal. I politely thanked her for her service and declined, telling her even if free I wouldn't return. She apologized for her managers rudeness and the long wait time. I did let her know she had no need to apologize, these things were not her fault. read more

I walked in with 6pm reservation for 6. We then waited almost 25 minutes in an empty restaurant. The odor of the restaurant smells of a wet carpet. We were sat at a table that seats 8 with a total of 10 guests. Very overcrowded and the hostess replied "that's a table of ten, do you want to wait for another table"? Server showed up about 10 minutes later lacking any smiles or hospitality. She then took our drink order and returned15 minutes later. Most drinks were just water. We then asked to order right away and she seemed annoyed. The entire group ordered and the sever showed up with salads and soups almost 25 minutes later. Also I want to remark that the servers uniform was very dusty and dirty. The restaurant just opened an hour ago. The chef came and did his presentation and he did a fine job. Server was late in the refill of our waters and attentiveness. The heavy set manager has seen me their numerous times but lacks customer skills in welcoming back his guests. Checks came to table almost 15 minutes after everyone was done. Waitress reminded the table that the tip was not included. This sounded very condescending. What do you tip for horrible service and server intimidation? We tipped 18 percent but felt we should've tipped 8 percent. Do I recommend this eatery? Yes for the chefs, no for the service, no for the hostesses and no for the managers. read more

Earlier in the day, we called to ask if it was okay to add an additional person and were told once again that it was okay. I was asked out on a date and this was where we decided to go. I have to say that the experience was over rated totally! The food was OK. I guess it would have been better if it was something that I could not have possibly made in my own kitchen. Lets face it; rice and meat is easy to throw together. But nevertheless I enjoyed the date. I do have to say that it was over crowed and the fact of eating with other people at a big table did not sit quite well with me. It left no room for privacy with your date. Also the bill was astronomical for the experience overall. A whopping $147 was just too much for a party of two. We only ordered 2 meals and 4 drinks. Just not worth the money. Could have went somewhere else and ordered better food and drinks and more privacy and came out with at least half of that for something else..... read more

March 16,2019: I have been coming here for years and this was unfortunately the WORSTexperience EVER! We made reservations a week in ADVANCE for a party of 9 to celebrate a birthday. As we arrived, I walked to the counter where there were three young ladies standing , one including the manager, Rachel. Rachel, RUDELY expressed that the entire party needs to be here in order to be seated. I then expressed that WE ARE ALL HERE, and she replied WHERE, I then pointed to where my ENTIRE party was seated (in the first set of doors up front because the second set of seating was full). Rachel replied, impatiently, they need to be here and in the building. I don't understand how we are not "in the building" if they are seated in Benihana waiting area on Benihana property. Dearborn Benihana doesn't even have an outside waiting area.. It appears that Rachel did not acquire management 101 skills, "It's not what you say , but how you say it" when working with CUSTOMERS.. I repeat , PAYING CUSTOMERS that has been coming here for years back when Tom ran the place. After unnecessary attitudes, and now a "hostile" environment created (remember as we are customers we came to GIVE our money and make memories to CELEBRATE ) we were finally seated... Once seated, we were rudely greeted by a VERY IMPATIENT waitress. We asked if we could have a few moments to review the menu and it seemed as though it weren't on her time, we had made some kind of mistake as CUSTOMERS?!? Honestly, this was not suprising as the manager, RACHEL attitude was HORRIFIC .. what can you really expect from the staff? ... Furthermore, we were given a new waitress which she was very kind , and the chef was great as well. Overall , this is a very unfortunate experience we had. Myself as I work, as a Regional Manager, in the automotive business- here are a few takeaways: 1) RACHEL, it all starts with you. You have to be a better leader to her team. If you're expectations is happy customers and increased revenue ($) you have to create an excited and "can do" environment for your team. That will leads to customers wanting to spend more. read more

Waited over an hour for the cook to even come to the table. Staff is just all over the place. Not recommended at all.

the ladies at the front counter were rude/ghetto..unbelievable that one was eating while assisting customers...had 3pm reservation but still was not seated until 3:20. the hostess spilled water ALL over my feet & did nothing about it except got new waters. the food was plentiful but so were the prices! the chef had no sauces to give as food was a little dry. the hostess never brought the tea that went with 5 course meal and had the nerve to highlight 22% tip on bill..NOT! will not be going to this location again! read more

This use to be my favorite spot to go. I have been to the Dearborn location twice in the past 30 days and both occasions or horrible. Yesterday the chef didn't even know how to fix and medium rare steak & the vegetables were burnt where you could even taste the bitter char on them. The young man was constantly wiping the sweat off his face onto his shirt while he was cooking. The Benihana rice did not fill the bowl the way it used to. The food was greasy from using regular butter instead of the garlic butter and when asked to use the garlic butter the chef said that they only use plain butter on everything except for the Benihana rice & that you have to pay for the garlic butter from the server. I spoke with the manager KEN and he was useless. When it came to the rice bowls his response was well maybe they're not completely full but they are close to being full. When asked about cooking the food with the garlic butter he replied that corporate does not want it cooked with garlic butter any more only the Benihana rice can be cooked with garlic butter and that the food is no longer cooked to order it's cooked by a specific recipe. Then when it came to the steak he said that any steak is brown while on the grill I tore a piece open for him to show him that it was done all the way through not pink or red then he said it must have finished cooking on the plate ...what idiot would say that on a glass plate not a metal plate that's not heated could possibly finish cooking your food. read more

This went from great on visits before to ugh. The north/smaller room is beautiful and clean. The rest is disgusting. Dirty walls, dirty hoods with hair stuck to them. We got a chef that could not do any tricks, used a verry dirty towel to wipe things and bragged he "only trained for two weeks" and was cooking since he was 6. We received no towels. The dressing on the salads, which the vegetables were dried out like they'd been sitting for hours, was clumpy grated onion and not the quality I have loved for over 10 years. The nice couple at the table ordered 6 servings of special rice which took over 40 mins to prepare. We sat with empty plates He burnt the onions, garlic butter, the mushrooms, the zuccini, the eggs were dark brown and bitter, the shrimp AND chicken were like rocks from being overcooked. All these burnt, sour smelling leftovers on the grill were gross as the gross dirty rag he used. As soon as he cooked the beef, 1 hour and 20 mins after sitting there, no show, the waitress tried to shoo us out. The "birthday song" was quick and the 2 staff didn't even look at me. The ice cream was melted. This was like a Japanese Waffle House, only Waffle House employees care about you more. Things like 6 servings of special rice should be dining table service, not grill. It was my birthday and they ruined it. read more

Don't go in with high expectations! I heard such amazing things about the great Benihana. And the experience I had was such a disappointment! I can't speak for the hibachi table experience but if you ask for a private table expect to be treated like second class. It seemed to me that the guests who sat at the hibachi grill were top priority. We were told upon arrival that our wait would be twenty minutes or less. After forty minutes of waiting we finally were escorted to our table and told that our waitress would be there shortly. We sat at the table for roughly twenty-seven minutes until a waitress that wasn't our designated waitress came over to ask if we had been assisted and took our drink order. For the rest of the night she was the one who served us. We never met our actual server. The food didn't take terribly long to come out but the appetizer that my boyfriend ordered never got to our table. And once it did it was after we had already finished our meal and with no apology! What makes it worse is that this was the place I chose to "spend a special night" with my significant other for my birthday celebration. If you do want to go here I suggest going with a party of more than two and sitting at the hibachi table. read more

I've been there twice. Always good service and fun. If you do not have a large party, you may sit with others or be seated with others with small groups, which will make your visit more interesting! The cook prepares all of the orders fresh and on a teppan(large table-top size iron griddle) built into the table where you'll be eating. So you can sit back, relax, enjoy your guests and the entertainment performed by your "personal" chef. read more
