It seems that everyone has the same compliant about this place and it's the location. Something about Fairlane mall I assume which most people are not the biggest fans of. Benihana itself is a pretty solid restaurant. The food is pretty good and fairly priced. Plenty of seating. Although the girls at the front counter act like it's super busy. We were immediately greeted with a "there's a 45 minute wait" . We agreed to wait and before we can sit down our name was called up??? And we were seated ???? The place was half full and it was Tuesday! Our waiter was great but the front counter needs some Customer Service Training. read more

I highly suggest going somewhere else. If you really want benihana, I request you go to a different location. Customer service is extremely horrible and employees are rude. I'm not from the area and I'm just visiting. I applied for my birthday certificate a couple of weeks prior to coming. I had received my birthday certificate late and decided that I would get take out as I already celebrated with my friends. Got to the restaurant and a waitress was outside yelling at someone across the parking lot and kept going in and out of the building. At this point I should have left but I wasn't planning to dine in. I Walked in the door and there were a handful of employees just standing around and talking by the host stand. Stood by the host stand for a while before anyone even looked at me. I asked to place a to go order and that I had a certificate. The hostess told me that it was dine in only. It doesn't say that on the certificate, however it was not a big deal. I asked for a single table as I was alone. She told me that it would be a longer wait for a table, and added me to someone's group although there were plenty open tables. I was a little uncomfortable because I didn't want to intrude on someone's group, but wasn't going to pass up the gift certificate. Waitress came to the table and I told her I had the certificate. She then confirmed the groups. When she got to me she rudely said "party of one". She started taking orders and came to me last. She then takes my order after she says "you know that certificate is only valid if you order two adult meals". It states that one adult meal must be purchased before the coupon can be used. I thought it meant to use the certificate, the item purchased must be an adult meal. I apologized and said that I didn't realize, because I interpreted the certificate wrong. She rudely said "well that's why people usually come here in groups". I was then so uncomfortable I decided to leave without getting anything. read more

Food was excellent and very reasonably priced (I had the salmon lunch boat and it was a ton of food for $10.75). Service was good and staff was friendly. Can't ask for much more! read more

Very poor service! All, not one, but all of the "hostesses" (and I use that term loosely) were horrible. Very bad attitudes, nobody knew what was going on. They were just so rude. I will not be coming back!!!!!!! read more

We had high expectations because people talk about benihanas all the time but this was mediocre and the environment was ghetto . Barely any room for your chair without being bumped by servers and the table over the wait staff sat on their phones while rolling forks and napkins . How tacky is that ? No just no read more

Worse experience I ever had at a so called restaurant. The server was rude and had an attitude and so was the chef. The chef took forever to fix our meal. While waiting on rest of the meal the rice was cold about time we got the Rest of our meal. Not to mention every time we ask the chef or the server Anything we got snapped at. This was absolutely the worst place we chose to eat. read more

I love Benihana for what it is. It's good, I love the hibachi style food, they have a formula that works. This experience was comical. I have never seen so much BUTTER used at a hibachi place.. The family that was seated with us requested extra butter.. and no vegetables. The usually corny hibachi chef routine-- complete with shrimp tossing and onion volcano-- was hilariously sad. The poor hibachi chef was just going through the motions and mumbling under his breath. My food was so full of butter. I swear, he used 2 softball sized (not baseball) hunks of butter on the grill. Just the residual butter on the grill made my food extra greasy. read more

Tried to place a Carry-Out order, I was on hold forever. Called back was still placed on hold forever. When I finally got through, the wait time was almost an hour. Maybe they need a separate staff that can handle call in food orders if they are going to offer this service? Just a suggestion read more

I have been going to this location for years and my experience last night was terrible. The waitress 'Deja' was very short with they entire table. She was huffing, puffing and rolling her eyes when questions were being asked about the menu. I couldn't believe this type of 'customer service' I was receiving from this establishment. She asked my aunt to take her straw out so she could refill her glass, since when do you have to take out a straw to get a refill? Then as she was packing our food up she was slamming the plates on top of each other. I really hope they can get their staff together because this was horrible. Then our chef OMG I'm going to just say common sense just isn't common!!! read more

The Staff was extremely Short, Dry and not interested in what we needed Tonight... The waitress was simply horrible!!! We mentioned that our plates were dirty! And simply said not her job to replace them?????? Salads sat over by the register forever above some dirty dishes.. While another waitress talked over them Yuck! Ask for sauce that I never received...since I was not able to get the sauce from waitress..I then asked the Chef and the look he gave me let me know that it was not Not his JOB WOW!NOT deserving of a tip at all!! JUST HORRIBLE read more

I think Benihana is great and their food is great! But the only thing is, is that the staff is very rude, the staff are even rude on the phone, It is so horrible. Also, the staff lie about how long the wait will be, they said it would be 2 HOURS and nobody was even there. I am very disappointed in how rude and horrible the staff are, all I wanted was some food. read more

The food is decent and for the most part healthy. I have very few complaints about food. However, I work next door and trying to order lunch on the phone for take out is beyond frustrating. I've called when they opened and called in the afternoon and never had anyone answer. I have to walk in order and them go back to work and wait an hour. I'm better off going to the sushi place across the way. read more

A year later. Same issues except their phone system IS WORKING. All I want is some yummy chicken fried rice to celebrate my birthday, and to make a reservation to do so. Why is no one answering their phones?! read more

Once again,we wait for over 30 minutes to eat in the lounge. There were only three small tables with patrons. The hostess told us the wait was because they only had one server, but when we sat there were actually two!!! Are you telling me that two servers can't handle 3-6 tables?!?!? I would love an explination on that one. Tired of this location. We will go to the Farmington/ Novi location from now on! It may be further to drive, but we won't leave upset either!!! P.S.Also, no longer let you get the full menu in the lounge, which is ridiculous, you are disappointing the patrons ( again) and the server loses tip money, the more we spend the more we tip, duh! read more

Me and my family love benihana but tonight not so much. When you pay the amount you pay at this place you expect the same service or the same amount of food whether you dine in or take out. And we did not, our order was messed up and they changed me extra for 1 ounce of ginger, that isn't even close to how much they give you at the table. If this was our first time, I wouldn't come back. read more

What a joke! Took a 1/2 hour to get a water. Server gave my sushi to the wrong customer. After sitting over an hour at the grill I finally had enough and left workout eating. If I wasn't with my beautiful wife my birthday would of been ruined. I like hibachi grills but I am very displeased with this one. read more

This is the worst Benihana I have ever been to. Our waitress was awful, slow and not at all friendly, even though the manager who sat us felt the need to tell us she was "a veteran" of the restaurant and super great. Not sure how she's been a long time employee. Everything took forever, the chef literally walked away from the table at one point with food all over it (I have never seen that happen at a Benihana before). She never brought us our ice cream and they added a mandatory service charge even though we were only a party of four. The manager claimed that was a new Benihana policy. If so, that's the worst policy ever. Make the drive to another location for sure. read more

I hate that this is the closest bebihanna to my home. They never answer the phone... The hostesses are kind of rude. It also seems like they could do more. I called today to place an order. Called for 45 min. No answer. When I walked in they were talking. I saw the phones lighting up. . No one would pick them up. Still sitting around talking. . I love going to the Novi location. This never happens there. read more

This is the best darn Benihina. The food is soo good, I once ate here everyday for an entire week. One expensive week. I love the scallops with Teriyaki and Garlic butter, lobster, or spicy chicken. Be SURE to get the fried rice. Benihana is expensive and after the renovation, they jacked prices up even higher. Also, they nickel and dime you hard core. You will be charged $3 if you ask for butter $3 for a refill on lemonade, $3 for teriyaki sauce and the list goes on. Some waiters really pile it on and some don't. I just deduct all the excess charges from the tip :) Wait staff is not very friendly. read more

Went here to use my birthday gift certificate. We reserved the steakhouse area, I love to see the food made right in front of me, so much fun! I love when they do the heart shaped rice when they cook it and and make the heart shape rice look like it's beating...so cool! LOL. Warning if you do not make reservations for the steakhouse there may be a long wait even on Monday's! But love it such a great birthday experience and the spicy tofu steak is good, with the chicken fried rice minus the chicken! read more

We had a reservation for 730pm, we arrived at 725pm and got seated at 745pm. It was a very slow night so I figured we'd be seated sooner than we were. Since it was slow they were cutting people left and right to go home. Ken was our waiter, he was nice and knowledgeable but he was very slow tonight. I know it's because they cut workers so he had 1 other table. Our hibachi chef did not arrive until around 845pm (an hour after we were seated). When he arrived he turned the night around his name was Antonio and he was PHENOMENAL! Antonio was personable, a great conversationalist, funny, and an amazing chef. He cooked everything the way we wanted it cooked. He did everything with a smile on his face and we couldn't be more happy with our service from Antonio! He was even raving about another chef so I could tell he's a great guy and a team player. After Antonio left it took a while for Ken to return. The other ladies at the table grabbed boxes from a different table, got bags from a different server and Ken still was not back. Food was amazing, & Antonio was amazing! We left around 9:50pm! read more

Great sushi, nice atmosphere and the hibachi grill show is always fun. My favorite is rocky's choice. Tons of other great things on the menu. Dinner and lunch are always delicious. They also have a birthday club to get $30 off coupon for your birthday. read more

The chef gave all our extra food to the other diners at our table who were being cheap and only order the basic entrees. It may have been because we were the only black couple at our table.. who knows. The chef may have assumed he wasn't going to get a good tip from us and after the way he treated us I didn't disappoint him... ASSHOLE! read more

Decidedly mediocre sushi and inattentive service was made worse only by the small bone in my salmon nigiri. Although the all you can eat sushi without any rice penalty is a nice touch, the rolls are not innovative, just stuffed with spicy sauce, shrimp tempura, and plain enough fish to make most people pretty happy. Despite the proximity to one of my Detroit hotels, I don't think I'll be back. read more

Everyone always complains about wait time. Some even complain after they know about the wait from being there before. MAKE A RESERVATION. Simple as that. Good service and excellent food. Ken was an excellent cook. Request him. It is very busy after 4 pm i would never just walk into this place and expect to get seated. But reading reviews it seems people still expect that. Not here people. Make a reservation. read more

Honestly I love this place. Make reservations because otherwise you will wait forever. The food is great - make sure you get the chicken fried rice. On a side note, they just changed their birthday coupon deal so you can only use it Monday-Thursday which kinda sucks but on the whole I love going there. read more

Took me about a week to review this place but felt remiss in not taking the time to do it. I would not normally not care enough to do it a week later but for the exceptional experience we had. My wife and I went with a family of 4 (2 adults, 1 child, and one toddler) and I had my reservations on how they would respond to our group as I would have thought this was a place mainly for adults on a Friday night. I was blown away at how awesome our waitress (Cameo) was at not just providing excellent service to the adults but taking special effort with the children as well. At the conclusion of our meal I was more than happy to over tip based on how well we were treated. We eat out a lot and it is sad at how poor service has become in our society. What a bright surprise we had eating here. read more

No complaints here. Service was fast. Food was great. Chef was very entertaining and professional. Had the Hibachi Shrimp and ask for extra garlic butter on the rice! Couldn't have asked for anything better. Best of all...it wasn't expensive. I'll be back. read more

This was the best Benihana I have ever eaten at. Our chef David was funny and engaging and he did an amazing job on the food. It was seasoned perfectly! The only reason I gave our visit four stars is that they don't have the shrimp sauce I'm used to eating at the Benihana's in Minnesota. If they got rid of the mustard sauce and started serving the shrimp sauce it would be awesome! read more

We called ahead to ask them if they serve halal meat and a guy picked up. For someone who has a restaurant in Dearborm should be familiar with the halal word as it is a Muslim based community. Anyway he never understood us. When we wanted to talk to someone else he hung up the phone and everytime we called them, they never picked up. Sorry to say shouldn't even give them one star. read more

In Detroit for the weekend and came across this Benihana. My husband and I were greeted immediately by a friendly hostess. He explained that they were already booked for the day for the chef type, prepared in front of you, dining. We were impressed because it was only 1 pm. We opted to sit in the dining area and just order. I was a bit peeved at the group of 4 other young hostesses (all female) who stood and talked while this male hostess was really trying to accommodate and seat us. They barely moved out of his way as he tried to get the menus. Clearly, he was the only one 'working' that day. He sat us and then we were shortly greeted by our waitress. The young lady was pleasant. Nothing over the top, but she was not cold or rude to us. She moved about in a nonchalant manner but she later confided in us that she was pregnant. I am going to assume that is the reasoning behind the lackadaisical manner. She brought our drinks out quickly...water and passion fruit lemonade. The lemonade is tasty but it did look as if it had been made earlier and had been sitting around because the ice was melted. The good news is that the ice melting took away some of the sweetness because this is a very sweet lemonade. She then took our order and brought out our soups and a garlic butter. I am STILL baffled about what to do with the garlic butter since we ordered the following: yakisoba noodles with chicken and fried rice. My husband, being the typical male, put some in his soup. Lol! He swore it made it taste better. I did ask the waitress and she said that people use it for their rice and to dip their meats in. Interesting! We are from NC and we are more accustomed to white sauce for that. At any rate, we waited quite a while to get our food. The restaurant had a lot of to go patrons in addition to those like us. The downside is that this seating area is near the door and it was FREEZING inside because of the door constantly opening. I did have to use the bathroom and encountered a very rude waitress. She was very busy as I had seen her handling one of the tables where the meals are prepared in front of you. When I asked her for help, she was only ringing up their check and was turning to walk back towards them when I stood before her and asked kindly where was the restroom. She scoffed and 'pointed' (more like through her finger up) and said 'over there'. The good news out of it is I knew which direction to head in. Smh! I sure hope her day got better because again, it was only 1 pm. Now, to the food. Everything looked good. The noodles were good but we could tell they were not fresh. They were hot, but a little too hard to bite into at times. No big deal. The fried rice was tasty once we added soy sauce to it. The veggies were cut very tiny but they had a decent taste. Overall, this was not the typical dining experience I am used to at Benihana. I hope this is not taken the wrong way because we actually laughed at it. But, we were VERY surprised to see that the chefs were African American males. We are black ourselves and just laughed because we are more accustomed to being serviced by Asian chefs at hibachi style restaurants, especially Benihana. Would we return... likely not. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. read more

What's the point of making a reservation. We got here fifteen minutes before our 4:00 reservation. We had to wait a long time (with no available chairs) to be seated, and then a long time before they even took our drink orders. It was almost 5:00 before we had water. The food was delicious, though. Go with the fried rice. read more
