This was the first time we went to Benihana's so we were new to the whole thing lol. My boyfriend and I went around 6PM on Monday with no reservation (OOPS! and it was packed!). After waiting for about 30-40 minutes... we were seated. I guess I just didn't realize but they there are 8 seats per "steakhouse" and if you don't have 8... you are obligated to sit with people you don't know. So we were seated with two other parties. Personally, it was no problem for us but one of the couples was annoyed by the situation. We waited entirely too long to be served. I think our waiter was new but it took him a good 25 minutes to return with our drink orders and he messed up on one of the parties drinks. Then it took another 40 minutes to receive the soup and salad. I didn't care for the soup but I don't blame the restaurant for that. When the chef finally arrived he was okay. He used a lot of garlic butter which was a turnoff for a few of the people but I didn't mind. The food was okay but I don't think it was necessarily worth the $60 tab I got. Ehhhhh, I MIGHT return again but I would have at least 6 people in my party next time I go and have a coupon! read more

This place always hits the spot. I recommend making a reservation since this location is always packed! Our most recent visit we had reservations at 7:30 and were seated around 7:50. Most people complain but with a packed house every night of the week you must learn that you are almost never seated right away. We came on a Tuesday and the wait for walk ins was an estimated hour and a half. Parking is always hard since the lot is so small however the mall is close enough you can park there and walk. Food is always great. Do yourself a favor and upgrade to chicken fried rice instead of the steamed. Most of the cooks are great but Pedro and William both make the best steak here. We've been to all three Benihana in the area and this one has the best chicken fried rice out of all of them. read more

My first and last time here. I was not a big fan. The food had a certain flavor in it that just made it hard to swallow. The vibes of the place are cool and the chef at our table was entertaining and fun but the food and the smell just didn't sit well with me. read more

We'll this was a ver disappointing experience. I have gone to other Benihana locations and this one certainly was by far the worst location we have been to. So I did make a reservation at 8pm and arrived about 20 mins early and checked in. The hostess had to ask me again my name and how many were in my party because she "completely forgot I had a reservation". After we were seated, it took at least 15 mins for our server to arrive and take our order. After our order was taken, some soup and salad was brought out. The soup was as good as always but the salad dressing on the house salad was horrible! It tasted as if it were gone bad and was unedible. After that, they brought the white rice for the kids and it was semi warm. It got cold within the first 3 mins the rice was brought out. After about 30 mins of waiting for the cook, it all seemed to be ok but some of the food was over cooked and burnt slightly. Overall, the food was not bad but like all of the reviews prior to this one, the service was just not there and certainly not worth the $120 paid. Most likely won't be returning for a good while. read more

Food is always good here so I came to use my birthday coupon (which everyone should sign up for). I got the chili shrimp roll which is always amazing, pro tip after 5pm it's half off for a few of their rolls including the chili shrimp. Followed by shrimp hibachi and I enjoyed every bite and had plenty to take home! Benihana is always consistent with their food but service always varies. read more

This place is horse shit. Waited over an hour to get the first come first served table. Then the wait staff are shitty and rude. Every time you even just look at one they give you an attitude or they just disappear right when your about to open your mouth. I always have been a considerate person but damn! Fuck this establishment and their waitstaff. Fucking assholes. We just wanted to eat! read more

Benihana Dearborn service continues to go down. But, this visit was my absolute worst. Made reservations for 1:30pm, had a slight wait when we arrived which was fine understanding they need a full group present usually to seat at a grill. Salads/Soups came out in a fairly timely manner, but that was the last of it. We waited and waited, looked around the restaurant wondering when our chef was going to come to our grill. Chef finally came over an hour later it was after 2:45pm. Then, we find out no one from the Benihana staff turned our grill on when they seated us. Apparently it is the host job to do that when they seat you. Our server notified us it would be another 10 mins for the grill to heat up. Our chef did not begin cooking until after 3pm. There is no reason why we were there over 2 hours for lunch when we had reservations. Our server knew our table was very upset at this time and said they will take a discount off our meal. We didn't know the discount until we received our check a whole whopping 10%. Horrible experience, food was good (usually i have no complaints with the food only reason i keep coming back) but, service was bad and didn't feel the wait staff kept us informed which made us more angry. Dearborn Benihana needs to get it together!!!! This was only lunch. Imagine how many more customers they could serve if they could flip lunch grill tables faster than 2 hours a group. read more

I went to the Dearborn Benihana on August 24th, 2020 at 4:20 PM. The service was absolutely horrible. My server barely greeted me. Just a "welcome to Benihana you ready to order?" Didn't offer me drinks and give me time to look things over, just went straight into it. The entire dining experience she did not check on me ONCE. Not a single time was I asked did I need anything else or was my experience going okay. I ordered an emperors feast with 3 bowls of chicken fried rice with no veggies. She brings the food out and the chicken fried rice looks awful. It's just fried rice with barely an egg, in the shape of the rice bowls, but with the chicken thrown on top. The chicken isn't even diced. It's cut into random sized chunks that are way bigger than how they are supposed to be. It looked like the chef just didn't care at all when he made it. I told her this wasn't right and she said that's how it always comes at the sushi bar. At this point I'm upset because she obviously thinks I'm stupid. I've been to Benihana so many times as it USED to be my favorite restaurant. The rice has NEVER looked like that. I've seen better rice presentation 20 minutes prior to closing. I sent the rice back and she comes back with a plate that is 80% eggs, 20% rice. She was trying to be funny saying "well you said you couldn't see the eggs." I get the manager involved and he seems completely indifferent and non caring. Almost as if I was inconveniencing him! He says "I'll make it for you myself okay?" He says give him 4-5 minutes he comes back 10-11 minutes later with 3 bowls of rice presented properly. But with vegetables. So he probably just took them straight out of the rice cooker in the back where they keep the big batch of chicken fried rice during dinner time. I was furious at this point, but still being as polite as possible because as a server I know it probably sucks to work in a restaurant during this pandemic. I was extremely kind and my kindness was not returned in the least. And while this is happening my server is treating the 4 top next to me MUCH better. A proper greeting and proper pacing for them but I guess I didn't deserve that. I have them take the rice off my bill so I can pay and leave. No true apologies. No promises to do better next time. No discount even though they messed my food up THREE DIFFERENT TIMES. This location is just consistently horrible and I normally hold my tongue but yesterday was the last straw. This entire place needs to be gutted and re-staffed because the attitude of the workers is disgusting. Nobody is forcing them to come to work, so I don't know why they're acting like it. And if you can't AT LEAST fake a positive attitude, you have no reason to be in hospitality business. read more

Benihana - Dearborn - Fried rice with veggies I did not ask for and a non-pre bussed table. Horrible pacing. - Steakhouses Near Me - Dearborn, Michigan

Terrible. Don't come here unless you want to be disappointed. Service is lackluster, hosts at the front desk are on their phones and not paying attention. The waitress was nice but didn't seem to truly care that I was a vegetarian. I made it known over and over again but kept getting soups with animal broth in it, she even lied and tried to tell me one was vegetarian when I had the ingredients of the Benihana soups on my phone just to double check things. The only reason I'm giving this place two stars instead of one is because of Antonio the chef. He was nice and very attentive when it came to my food. To finish off the madness the waitress tried to take the few dollars I had left on the bill after I already tipped her earlier. You can't keep change unless I tell you that you can keep the change. That's how it works. Definitely never coming back here again. read more

I called to speak with a manager about my order the lady said her name was Rachel and that she was the manager. I ordered an extra pint of mustard sauce which I did not receive that I paid five dollars for. The rice was hard like it was over cooked or maybe it was from the night before. I ordered my steak medium and its very well done. I called her and she was rude and said I have to take my order up with the third-party delivery site that I used however their jobs Was ONLY to deliver it. She was rude and nasty I'd like to speak to someone other than her to be honest I just spent $100 on Overcooked and heart probably from the day before food, I am very dissatisfied with Benihana's Deerborn MI location and I spend a lot of money with them before Covid and after guess I'll only be dealing with other locations now. Customer service and proper etiquette needs to be revised especially if you're management. Rachel I hope the right people see this read more

Delicious food but terrible customer service! I tried to call in to place a carry out order at 8:55pm. I called Benihana and was on hold with them til about 9:15 at that time I proceed to go to the restaurant. I was greeted promptly at the door and I advised I wanted to place a carry out order. I was told to proceed around the corner and sit at the first available table where someone will assist me. I sat down at 9:22pm. I waited and waited...finally someone was cleaning tables and I inquired if I was at the correct location, he said yes but he thinks carry out is closed now. I requested to talk to a manager. Austin came over. I advised him of the situation and that I have been on hold for now 31 minutes (still had the phone on hold all this time) he said we stop taking carry out orders at 9pm. I advised and showed him my phone which was still on hold and that it was prior to 9pm. He states "yeah we are not taking any more orders.." So even if I just want some chicken fried rice and not only being on hold but also traveled up here and still no assistance. He said "yeah".... He can see my phone call still was not answered prior to the cut off time and even with me being there still over 30 minutes prior to closing and still nothing. What happened to the customer being accommodated? I can see if I had just walked up but you can obviously see that I am still on hold. I also inquired why don't you just answer and advise we are not taking any more orders, that would have solved all of this? He didn't have a response. I will NEVER spend my hard earned money at this location again. Obviously you are too busy and don't need my money, so I will take it else where and any time anyone asks I will advise of this huge waste of time and how inconsiderate Austin was, who is supposed to be a manager. read more

So I'm visiting family and we are deciding where to go as we are getting ready. We finally decide to go to Benihana so we head over there. That was a mistake. Don't ever attempt to go to Benihana without a reservation. They have no Interest in seating you unless you have a reservation. They will not not give you a time frame just tell you that they have to seat all there reservations first and then then will seat you. After a two hour wait and seeing several empty tables at their grills I started getting annoyed and went to talk to the host for the 4 time stating I was ready to leave and the were going to lose a $200+ tab for 6 people. "Devine", the manager, said if I want to leave that's up to me. They still would not tell me if it was going to be another 3 minutes or five hours, just that they have seat their reservations first. Worst manager ever at dealing with an angry customer. I don't know how she was ever got into management. She has about as much customer friendly experience as a non English speaking IT person from India and she made me just as mad. Then she gave me the corporate number which would not take my call unless I had a name or extension number of who I was contacting which "Devine" would not give me. Finally another manager with better people skills came over and got us a table within 5 minutes. Then the server and chef were your normal Benihana experience. But having a not so Devine experience and being told the wait was my fault for not making a reservation means I will never eat at this location again and given a choice I will chose Kobe or Showgun in the future because they know how to take a walk-in customer. I still can't believe a restaurant doesn't want walk-in customers. We were an inconvenience to them and treated like dirt simply because we didn't know we wanted to eat there 4 hours before we went. Why was my what ended up to be an over $300 any less important than a reservation of $300. In closing let me leave you with this... just because someone is named Devine doesn't mean you get a Devine experience. read more

While this location has slowly been going downhill, my last visit will be my LAST visit ever. A large group of "ladies" , barely dressed and what little clothing they did have was completely see through were sat despite being in clear violation of the supposed dress code. Their attire wasn't the problem in the end, their behavior was. Their entire group decided the wall next to our table was where they wanted to take pictures, which at first was fine. Fast forward 30 minutes later and it was a huge issue. Their gestures, language and poses became worse with each passing minute and when our waitress walked through their picture she was verbally attacked by the entire group. At that point the "security guard" finally got off his chair and removed our waitress instead of the group. Another 30 minutes passed and the group was finally back at their table and were informed they wouldn't be served. They began throwing dishes and screaming at the top of their lungs about rats and roaches. Our entire meal was ruined, our chef was distracted by the groups picture taking and our meal suffered, our waitress was frustrated with the entire situation and our service was awful. All of this could have been prevented if the rules of dress code were followed in the first place, or if they were told to return to their table long before the attack on our waitress, or being told to leave immediately after they started screaming at the waitress. read more

I am absolutely appalled at the decline in service at this location. After waiting an hour and 50 dollars at the bar, we were told walk ins could only be served in private dining. Most people visit this type of restaurant for the hibachi experience. It would be nice to inform your customer that this option is not available. Next, as we wait 15 minutes for a manager, he (Alston) approaches to listen to our concern and at no point apologized for the lack of information but made it very clear he was not interested in accommodating us in anyway. While waiting for him, we observe an employee in the pickup area preparing orders while licking a popsicle. Wow. I didn't even know those were on the menu. Maybe it was lunch from home. It's not funny but I have to make light of it because I'm so disturbed by the lack of service. You have professional prices with no professionalism. Everyone walks around like customers have to be at this establishment. We don't. I won't. This is our last visit.Hibachi Chicken read more

I would rate it higher because the food is amazing. If you can get seated. The Monday night we went there was no one waiting in front of us and we were told it would be 10-15 minutes. 45 minutes later we were still sitting there. I probably wouldn't be mad but several other tables walked in behind us, they were asked if they had called ahead and the people all said no and they all got sat before us. I asked to get carry out and the girl rudely told me she couldn't get me a carry out that I would have to wait an hour at least. read more

Horrible service. Was quoted an hour to an hour and a half for seating. Has taken almost 2 hours. Oh man I love their food so much here. I've had dreams about the rice lol. However I have to agree with other reviewers, the staff here sucks. I've been here hundreds of times throughout the years and it's the food and only the food that keeps me coming back. My waitress tonight talked so fast everyone at the chefs table must have said "whatttt?!" After everything she said. She then proceeded with the question and a sassy undertone. You would think she would take the hint to slow down and enunciate the first time around. In fact just about every time I come my server is a snooze with the personality of a leather boot. The corny tricks the chefs do while cooking gets old but it's still really cute to see and I always expect it. Some chefs are more enthusiastic than others but I know kids and first timers enjoy it. Personally I come for the food and that's it. It's that amazing to me. It also annoys me how there's almost always a wait even with reservations. I choose to sit at the chefs table every time. Not because I necessarily want the gimmick but because I feel you get more food that way. The chef will throw you extras, you don't get that at a private table. However all in all I give four stars because I love the food but I wish they would hire some better staff. read more

I usually avoid this location at any cost [for many reasons] unless I'm invited here for a special occasion which was the case for my most recent visit. This location serves an urban demographic of people and there is an obvious bias against them. This location does not extend the same courtesies as those that serve a more suburban demographic. For example, this location does not offer it's guest a complimentary photo of their dining experience. There is also an upcharge for things that are free at surrounding suburban locations [i.e. garlic butter]. In addition, there is a disturbing, distinctive chicken to rice ratio. It should definitely be considered egg fried rice since there is more egg in the rice than chicken. Also, be advised that they consider Amsterdam & Svedka premium liquor. I observed the bar tender [Maurice] making "top shelf" drinks with these low grade liquors. My experience here is consistently subpar. However, our server [Jasmine] was exceptional. She was definitely the saving grace to my dining experience and probably the best server I've ever had at any Benihanas. As great as her service was, it's not enough to keep me from avoiding this location. read more

Yesterday 2/13/22 had to been the worse experience at Benihana ever since I started going to this Dearborn location. We requested chef tao or chef Wendy and got a newbie instead who didn't even know what the hell he was doing!! This place is a joke, don't even request anything because they don't accommodate shit.My margarita had something floating in it and the stank ass manager didn't even apologize and had it remade and didn't even as us how we wanted it.The chef who clearly needed assistance burned half the rice in the hibachi table as he went in the back lining for rice bowls which at the point another horrible manger came out with an attitude and brought him some he quickly washed in the back with someone else's rice still sticking in the edge of the bowl and he just removed it with his thumb The chef didn't have enough garlic butter which is the best experience at Benihana and he kept over pouring the soy sauce in the food I read of garlic butter, then gave most of the garlic butter to a customer at our table. The chef seemed slow in every aspect. When he ran out garlic butter another customer at the table gave him theirs to use on other peoples food! Since management is horrible there was no point in complaining but dealing with unsanitary violations over and over again. This location either needs revamping or shut down.I'll be calling corporate with other details on tonight's most horrible nasty experience!! Did I mention our reservation was 3:30 and we didn't get seated till 4 and got our food by 5:15! We spent over 4 hours here since we checked in around 2:50 we left this shithhole at 6:30!! I used to come here all the time, but they recently went down hill a lot. I went for lunch on my birthday...they emailed me a Birthday gift certificate, i showed the waitress before i ordered and she proceeded to listen to my order, but not tell me what i ordered did not "qualify," for the "Gift Card," they sent me. I ordered a normal lunch special, but my gift card was only good for certain dishes... wow thanks Benihana. I simply said to the manager as i left "I paid my bill in full, i just want to say i dont appreciate this misleading "gift card". and the manager boistrously laughs and says "Well maybe you should have read the fine print!" Just totally rude and unprofessional, i wont be returning here. Also, they charged "certain," customers for items that most do not get charged for... a lady asked for a little extra of that butter on her rice, and they charged her $1. and she asked for an extra cup of sauce... another $1. I have seen people ask for these items and never get charged, yet they decided to single this lady out and charge her extra. I emailed benihana corporate but never got any response, i suspect because the complaints go directly to the individual locations and the manager who was rude just deleted it. Unprofessional and the food wasn't that good, i would much rather go to bangkok 96 or a place that treats customers with respect. read more

I had reservations about going to Benihana based on what I've heard from friends and family. I could not believe that it was even worse than what I expected. This was easily the worst restaurant I've ever been to considering the price, quality, and flavor. We did the whole teppanyaki experience and the food was uninspiring, boring, and (worst of all) bland. It seemed like Benihana only has 3 seasonings: salt, pepper, and the garlic butter sauce (which is thrown on everthing with reckless abandon). The ONLY thing that my scallops were "seasoned" with was the garlic butter - no salt/pepper- so I was left with a bland and overcooked main course. Nothing we ordered was remotely good. The teppanyaki show is nothing special - it seems gimmicky. I'd rather watch a real chef prepare a great meal than see someone flip utensils and food with complete disregard for the food. I honestly don't understand how people like this place. Benihana is an embarassment to Japanese cuisine. If I were given the choice to pay $2 for a can of Spam or a meal from Benihana, I would opt for the Spam in a heartbeat. read more

I used to love this place but went there tonight with my parents and had such a bad experience that I'll never go back. The manager and waitress return a bit later with my license saying that they can't give me a drink because my license was expired. Both of them were extremely rude but I said okay and asked for a water. My moms drink came out in a dirty glass and it took the waitress at least 20 minutes to come back so we could tell her. We should have left right after we walked in the door. As we walked in, waitstaff and host were arguing and another wait staff came out to complain that a customer "walked" without paying bill. We had a reservation but still waited half an hour. Two other couples at our table waited an hour. We ordered sushi and when it was brought out, the kitchen mixed up our order with another couple at the table, so she went back to get it switched. Then she came back to say that the sushi kitchen was closed. Everyone at our table ordered another round of drinks and then the server came back to say that the bar was closed without giving a "last call" notice. The chef started serving our food and several of us said, "wait a minute, we haven't had soup or salad". We knew the answer, there was none available. The server then said to me, don't worry, the manager will comp your bill. Next the security guard with his bullet proof vest came over to stand near our table and at this point, we were the last table. I asked if there was something wrong and he moved back to the door. Now to add insult to injury, the bill came and the manager had taken 15% off the bill, which was basically the cost of soup and salad. We all agreed at our table that we would jointly complain and demand to speak to the manager. He came over and claimed he did not realize the extent of the problems. He reviewed the bills and reluctantly gave everyone 50% off. The restaurant was dirty, bathrooms were filthy and no TP!! The cooking surface was very worn and looked dirty too. We will never go to this Benihana again. The brand is not what is used to be and it will be a long while before we go to any Benihana!! read more

I have dined at Benihana in Dearborn on many occasions, and the wait is always long but today was unreal! One seated we wait over an hour for service. The manager came over to the table and was frustrated by us telling her how long we waited. Rachel was the manager on duty and after she assured is we would have a chef over immediately, we waited an additional 10 minutes. The chef, who just checked in for dinner shift (we waited from 2:45-4) was great, as was the waitress who served us. The manager, however needs to learn to handle these situations more professionally. Cutting off a guest when speaking and rolling her eyes is not what is expected after an hour and 15 minute wait. She gave a small amount of compensation (about 5% of the bill) but the experience was enough to never go back to that restaurant again. BTW, this was supposed to be a nice experience for my 80 year old mother. The waiter was so rushed, we did not get the full experience (hibachi chef) read more

I have been coming to this restaurant for years and a lot has definitely changed. I can understand the new garlic butter rule, and to be honest, that's favorable to me coz I really wouldn't like my meal swimming in butter like what other patrons want. My main concern is how untidy the dining area looks. Everywhere I turn, I see tray stands with piles of dishes. This place is supposed to be a fine dining restaurant, and the food is not very cheap, but I hope ambiance plays a part as well because with the price I pay for food and service, I would prefer not to see dirty dishes as I eat. read more

Terrible. Made reservations. Drove an hour to get there cause most places were closed on Xmas, specifically stated in my reservation that I WANTED A TABLE. They said no... so I asked to speak to a manager and the manager told me I could wait for 2 hrs for a table. Man I'm not tryna be sitting with 6 random ppl and risk catching Covid. They clearly don't care about their customers. It's not my fault open table doesn't specify that reservations are for hibachi only. I will NEVER go here or to any Benihana establishment ever again.
