I have never been so humiliated and embarrassed in my life. Made a reservation for my granddaughter's 19th birthday today. The reservation was for 25 people. I was told I had to put a $500.00 deposit down. The deposit was paid and the reservation was for 4pm. We were told that everyone in the party had to be there by 4:15. Needless to say, we were all there by 4pm and when I went to the desk to let them know the party was here, I was informed that because our party was so large and they had quite a few other large parties already seated, we would have to wait. When I made the reservation at the beginning of the week, I specifically asked them if we would have to wait when we arrived and was told no because we had a reservation. We waited until 4:45 and we got tired of waiting and I asked for a manager because by this time I was told the wait could be up to 4 hours. I asked for my $500.00 deposit back and we left and went to PF Chang where we were seated right away. I have never been so rudely treated in my life. This used to be one of my favorite places. I don't know what happened with customer service but it's terrible now. If you have a policy of asking for such a large deposit, the least you can do is stick to your end of the bargain. read more

This Benihana's is pretty decent. The customer service is good and you get generous portions as long as you sit at the grill. Portions were much smaller if you sit at the table. I like to come during lunch time and get the best deal. read more

Benihana - Dearborn - Steakhouses Near Me - Dearborn, Michigan

Joined my family, thought we were going out for Chinese food. Whoops not. Had no idea what a Benihana is or what they offer - never been there. So it's steak and sushi... I love sushi so that was not a problem. First impression, it was smokey and seemed greasy. Even the floors in the bathroom I slid on. Place was empty besides those seats by the grill things. So my family wanted to sit by that of course so we waited maybe an hour. Not a great start, working all day, driving home an hour, traveling to Dearborn for another hour, waiting to sit for an hour. My seat at the grill was particularly drafty so I had to leave my winter coat on. Finally a lemonade at 8:30pm and we ordered dinner. There was nothing on the menu for me, there is no way in heck I was going to order a 5-6 course meal that late and the pricing was very high! I got the Rainbow Roll and beef (5) potstickers, my teen daughter (who also was oblivious to what a Benihana is) ordered the Shrimp Lovers roll and onion soup. I can't review the pot stickers because they got passed around and eaten. I heard they were different and not in that good way. My roll was scant and completely bland, but managed to taste like the refrigerator it came out of. 6 pieces. My daughter's was even less appealing and smaller, I ended up giving her half of mine. THE SUSHI WAS HORRIBLE. The Husband and Mom got the grill stir fry. We had finished our scant pieces of sushi before their meal was ever cooked. My poor kiddo - my family shared their food with her, she was starving. Oh my G-d the bill was $139 for the four of us! Split 4 ways that WAS $34 FOR 3 PIECES OF SHUSH!! I could not get out of there fast enough. Starving, I went home and made myself a sandwich. Sweet G-d in heaven I would never pay that kind of money for stir fry. A $10 burger and fries would of made me happy as a clam. I did not enjoy sitting a big table with a bunch of strangers. No intimate conversation to be had. All around not a place I would ever go to and never going back. I think of all the great new places in Metro Detroit that we could of gone to - what a shame! Big Pro: Our server was phenomenal, caring and attentive (wish I got her name) and the grill show with Kyle was very cool - he was also amazing. SORRY THIS IS A BENI-NO-NO for me. read more

I have eaten here since I was young. first time back in years, the grill was so hot the hot oil smoke burned my eyes, tears were streaming down my face the entire time. several orders were forgotten or either not entered. my glasses were covered in cooking oil by the time I left my dinner. my dads steak was forgotten. definitely a time to forget. read more

Tonight my boyfriend and I came into this location for my birthday. I live in Los Angeles and I actually worked at the Benihana in Encino, CA for a couple years. I loved that job. Even though I'm no longer employed with the company I still frequent Benihana because the food is absolutely delicious. I've never had a bad experience until this evening at the Dearborn, MI, location. We had a wonderful dinner, the food was delicious and our server was a peach. I ordered a few drinks throughout the evening and one of them was not correct. I kindly mentioned it to our server, and she called over the manager. The manager (Jimmy, Fabio, Ralph? I was given multiple names when asking about who the manager was) disrespected and downright degraded me in front of my boyfriend and the other guests at the table to the point where another guest at my table commented on how rude he was. I was not being difficult and didn't ask for anything I just wanted to let my server know the drink was not what I asked for. He talked down to me, asked me to come watch the bartender pour a new shot if I was so concerned about it and rolled his eyes. After my experience I looked at the other reviews for this location and was not shocked one bit that this restaurant only has 2 stars on yelp. I can only hope the "higher ups" are held accountable for their actions. read more

By: Ahmad Sobh Yumm!!! Benihana is the best restaurant ever. Today I will give you three good reasons why Benihana is a good restaurant. To start off, there menu is really good, the hibachi steak is really juicy when it is in your mouth it will make you want more and more they also have their very own butter that is spicy and really good they also have chicken lemon rice and it is also spicy. Furthermore, there service is amazing, they entertain you if ask for the table you want them to cook on in front of you they go really quick when they make the food it takes only about 30 minutes. Lastly, there set-up is fantastic, it looks very nice inside and it is very fancy and there furniture is really comfy for a restaurant and the silver ware is so clean and shiny. In conclusion, you should go to Benihana and try it out if you have spare time. read more

This place is amazing! the atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming! you can smell the food from the parking lot and it smells amazing! I love watching the chefs cook they're very professional very clean the proportions are great! you would definitely have a great time dining here! The staff is professional and proficient. Almost a year later and I still give this location only 1 star. It is the most mismanaged restaurant in the area. They have only one seated table on the "Sushi" side and tell you it's a 15 minute wait. Once you get seated and order your salad and soup comment only moments before your meal. I don't get it. Seat the people down, take the order, provide the soup and salad, and balance the kitchen to get the meals out. The managers are uninterested in fixing any of these issues and are truly disinterested in their customers perspectives. Again, once you do get your meal, it is good and fresh and well presented. It's just not worth the hassle!! read more

Probably the worst customer service ever. Rude as soon as we checked in, never got greeted or acknowledged after 15 minutes and ended up leaving. Save your time, will try another location. read more

The customer service is horrible here. I met friends here for drinks and we waited for over an hour for a table even though it was not crowded. Everytime we asked about the status of the table, the hostess staff had an attitude like we were bothering them. When we finally sat down, we waited for awhile before someone to take our order. Once we finally ordered, the waitress did not like the fact that we asked questions or for substitutions. I will never come back here and I will be going to other hibachi restaurants whenever I come back home to visit read more

First of all, I'm not a professional reviewer... so take my review with a grain of salt. Or a canister, depending on your disposition. Well, the road with Benihana has been a rough one. Now, in addition to my NOT being a professional reviewer, I'm not a huge sushi fan either, but the co-workers like the place so I always tag along and get the teriyaki bowl. I LOVED the pre-upgrade/remodel location, but once they went to the new one it lost it's charm. The staff seemed much less caring, the inverse-arc bar forces shoulder-to-shoulder dining, and I have yet to get an order served to me as I have requested it. But there is one visit that still stands out to me not matter how hard I try to push it away. My friends and I were having a lively discussion when a MANAGER came over and waved his hands around, signaling a stop to our conversation. He then pointed out to the group that I had made an error in leaving my chopsticks in my bowl, which apparently is "insulting" to some Asian cultures and that I should remove them immediately. Now, if these were clients and not co-workers, I probably would have been really embarrassed. But thankfully, I was reassured that my belief that his action was pretty rude/undeserving was not just my own. Ok. I get it. Leaving my chopsticks in the bowl may have been a breech of etiquette. But I don't need an employee (a manager, no less) coming over, interrupting our conversation and pointing this out to me in front of my friends/peers in a dramatic fashion. Not at all. That "issue" could have been handled VERY differently. Other than that, I've never been able to get an order delivered to me as ordered. I ask for an extra bowl of rice to eat when my friends have salads delivered before their meals? I never get the bowl. I ask for water? Never comes. I've even had waitresses give me dirty looks... and quite honestly? I'm a VERY laid-back customer... I just appreciate good customer service. I don't hate Benihana... I just don't recommend it, based on my personal experiences. read more

Silly me, thinking that I would have a better experience if I made a reservation. UGH. I made a reservation for New Year's Day. My husband was full of objections, the wait time is long, it's always too loud/crowded, etc. "Oh it'll be fine!" I said. "We have reservations!" I said. My reservation was for 3pm. I checked in around 2:45, and told I'd be sat soon. After 3pm, we were finally called. It appears there was some sort of mixup. My OpenTable account was under my maiden name, Crystal Ray. It appears that there was a party under "Crystal" and one was under "Ray" and neither of which were for me. I was then told they were seating the people who were there for lunch (Which I guess ends at 3) and that I'd be called soon. And.... we were never called. I went up to the desk, and it appeared my reservation had been deleted/moved/got lost somewhere, and they said I'd then be a "Priority" reservation and I'd get sat soon. After being there almost an hour, we ended up leaving. No food, no apologies, no offer to help. I then got a nasty e-mail from OpenTable that I didn't have my meal. Thanks for rubbing salt in the wound. Never again. read more

I used to come to Benihana as a child and I was excited to reminisce about the delicious food I would have as a child......this experience has ruined that... to start off the prices are overpriced, especially for the quality. To start off I received onion soup and a salad as an appetizer. The onion soup was decent, nothing special but the salad was terrible. The lettuce was soggy and the dressing was bland.. to top it off we received a small tub of butter at the start of the meal, not quite sure what I was supposed to do with this.. the only reason I gave it two stars is due to our hibachi chef cooking the chicken and steak well along with working hard (Patricia)... I feel like the whole dinner the amount of butter put in everything just kept increasing.. i would not recommend going here unless it's for a child's birthday as me and my wife did not enjoy the experience. read more

So tomorrow is my birthday, and my dad and I decided to go out and celebrate. I love hibachi grill so why not here!? The wait wasn't bad, once we sat down...that's when things got bad. First off, I'm a server myself. So I am pretty picky and expect my server to treat me the way I treat my guests when I'm serving. Because this place won't offer stouts, I wanted to get a wine, I ask my server what is a sweet red they have. She said, after I asked if she was familiar with the wine; "no, but I can ask the bartender what we have". Eventually I decide to order a different wine after she gives me the Plum Wine....wasn't a fan. So my dad drank it. She said "we have merlot..." And I asked, i think you have a pinot noir?" She said "a noir?" I replied..."Yea, a Pinot Noir" she then says she doesn't know, and that she'll check.... I think that's a little ridiculous that the server had no idea what wines you offered (or for that matter what certain wine was). Now time for the food. We order. Our soup and salads came out within a timely manner. Then our server brought out our rice.....but no entree. I'm confused, is it normal to bring out the rice, by itself...TEN MINUETS BEFORE our entrees?? Finally, our entrees...er...I mean my dads. I never received mine. As a server, I don't give excuses or blame it on anyone when something goes wrong, I simply say "I am so sorry...my apologies..." so on and so forth. Our severe, tells me "I'm so sorry, I don't know why yours is takin so long." The. Comes back later (maybe another 5 minutes) and says "I'm so sorry, I don't know what they're doing". Our sever, after I asked why it's taking so long, said "I don't know, I mean he for his food, maybe they dropped the ticket or it got lost" ....ok. Our server was nice, but not very...professional? At least not for the type of restaurant we dinning. Anyway, finally I received my entree and told them to just put it in a to-go bag. When we received our bill...WE WERE CHARGED MY ENTREE. Not good business. I didn't receive my entree until my dad was completely done with his meal. Why am I being charged?? Anyway, I spoke to a manager, who didn't seem too professional either, and they took it off the bill. Would I come back, sure...but it's not my favorite restaurant. Sorry but it needs some improvement on the professionalism and knowledge of the alcoholic beverages. read more

Well, ever since they've moved, I find myself going less and less. Perhaps it's because O' sushi opened down the street. For me, it's all about the sushi. Don't get me wrong, Benni's is fine, but you'll end up paying 2x as much. We used to get the lunch boat all the time, which was pretty good for 8 dollars, but the prices just got to be silly for dearborn. And don't get me started on the ridiculous food stir fry theme park hibachi teppenyaki show. Now if I'm in the mood for a fun place to get some drinks, then i'm going somewhere else. read more

Rap music has ruined Benihana's. There, I said it. It's come up in a few hip hop songs and now, it's the "place to be". It's always packed... there's always a wait. I've gotten over sitting at the hibachi now (I don't need to hang out with strangers and have awkward smalltalk while waiting for my food to be cooked and sitting there makes my clothes and hair smell like garlic butter) and would prefer to sit on the sushi lounge side at a personal table. You used to get decently dressed to go to Beni's, but now, you see people wearing ANYthing they pick up off the floor and shake out. None of this is Beni's fault, but they should probably start enforcing a dress code to raise it's standards, especially after the recent shooting that took place there. ANYway, I love Beni's food, I love their sushi, I like their cocktails. As many people have mentioned, sign up for their email/birthday club and receive a certificate for $30 for use in your birthday month. Recently went in to get dinner. Food was great and our chef was fun. Sad to say that pretty much every employee we came across wasn't properly wearing a mask. This included chefs behind the counter. Our party of 4 arrived at this location at 6:55pm. We were seated at 8:05. We received the normal soup and salad, placed our order and then waited........for 1 hour and 12 minutes 9:17 before a chef came out to prepare our meal. Several of us complained and asked to speak with a manager. No one came. So I got up and asked to speak with the general manager. We're told Art would be out to see us in 10 minutes. After 7 minutes passed, which was ridiculous to me, I went to find the GM myself. Although we were offered a 50% discount, this horrible service absolutely ruined my final night out in Michigan with friends. Very angry now. I expect compensation for this extreme inconvenience. And, as if this wasn't enough, to make matters worse... I ordered ONE fried rice. The gentleman to my right ordered THREE bowls and a young lady to his right ordered TWO. To all of our surprise, I received 3 bowls on my plate, the man to my right 1, and the other lady 2. The 3 bowls of rice were served atop my USED UTENSILS and USED PLATE. On discovery of this, the chef proceeded to use his spatula to remove TWO bowls from my plate placing one bowl on each of these other two STRANGERS plates. And all of us pointed out this disgusting error, the chef looked at each of us like WE were the crazy ones! This was only rectified when the other guests refused to eat the contaminated rice. As the preparation continued, the guests to my right reported no fewer than 3 additional food preparation errors. Hmmmm... I'm absolutely horrified...... wtf. I am reporting this to the local health department. It is clear from the numerous mistakes that this establishment engages in a GARDEN VARIETY of unsanitary and improper practices that need to be checked. Guest check #4/40305 - We did not receive our check until about 10:15pm - 3 hours later. -------------------------------------------------------- Update- a regional manager finally called me more than 2 weeks later. He apologized, said the matter would be addressed and he offered to send out two $20 meal coupons. The coupons didn't arrive until several days later. Based on my clear level of dissatisfaction, 2 FREE meals seems like it would have been a more appropriate response. BUT... this further demonstrates how little senior management cares in my humble opinion. It is RIDICULOUS that you have to SEARCH so hard to find the complaint submission area on their corporate website. No phone numbers to contact either. They apparently don't read their reviews because this location has DOZENZ of bad reviews. Anyway.... they don't care at the local or corporate lever --- and I do not ever plan to return to this restaurant even for $20 off per person. I recommend you avoid Benihana and if not - this location in particular. Read others reviews - its absurd. read more

Wish I could give 0 stars. Went here around 4pm just to get some sushi. We were told 45 minutes to an hour. There were over 20 open tables? Why not just seat people and grab some drinks. You don't need 3 hostesses to not seat anyone in your empty restaurant. Unreal customer service read more

I called this location and waited on hold for an hour. After an hour of waiting on hold, I called back and asked for a manager, I was then left on hold for another half hour. I literally walked in while still on hold, and saw the manager, Harvey, as well as two other employees standing there talking. I talked to the manager who was extremely rude, kept cutting me off before allowing me to express my frustrations and being demeaning about the situation. He finally apologized and after taking my order, I said "wow, this is a joke," he then turned around and crumbled up my receipt and said "I won't be taking your order, have a nice day!" This was going to be a large order for my employees who really wanted to eat here. We order here often, needless to say, I'll probably never come back here again. I am extremely angry as I've never in my life experienced worse customer service! read more

I personally love Benihana's but not because of stellar service or super quality food... I just like it but I have to be honest. I have never been here when it is not a packed house and front of house and waitressing staff always seem rushed, rude, bored, or withdrawn. I highly recommend reservations, even mid-week. The friendliest staff are the chef's who put on a routine show while cooking at your table. They make for jokes and fun conversation, if that's your style. I suppose to some people sitting at a table of 8 with complete strangers is not comfortable, per se, but try to make the most of it :) The food is basically the same time and time again. Don't miss out on the chicken fried rice and don't let the stranger next to you talk the chef into dumping his whole bowl of garlic butter onto it. They will try, but defend your cardiovascular system :) The whole experience seems rushed for eating to me. They bring your soup and salad out back to back and by the time the chef is done cooking everything, the waitress comes with carry out bags. He literally JUST finished cooking all of my food and you want me to leave already?? I once sat next to a man from France and he was so confused and appalled. I guess that's good ole American eating and efficiency all in one. Side note: Their sushi is also pretty good for those of you stuck with a long waiting time or wanting to sit in the regular dining section. read more

Well, to echo the other reviews here - do yourself a favor and just don't go to this location. Go to Troy or Novi instead! Don't do it!! Save yourself!!! *Dies* Anyway, my hubs and I arrived at a very not-busy Benihana around 2pm for some late lunch sushi. There were a few tables in the sushi bar, but the place was pretty sparse. There was one hostess and 4 other female servers hanging out behind the hostess stand gossiping. The hostess took our name and told us that there would be a 15 minute wait. Wait - what? I never had experienced this before coming to this location in the past (though tbh it's been awhile). I stared longingly at the empty tables in the sushi bar dreaming of delicious sushi, watching the one server helping the few tables that remained and the other 3-4 servers hanging out at the hostess stand, apparently very VERY busy doing absolutely nothing. I honestly couldn't quite figure out why we were waiting. When my husband inquired, 15+ minutes later, he was told they were "backed up with carryout orders". Hermmm...Frustration ensured. Eventually I just sat myself down at one of the many empty tables and a few minutes later the one server actually working brought us some ice water. She asked if we were dining in or placing a carryout order. I mentioned we had been waiting for awhile, and wanted to sit since there were a lot of empty tables. She asked for our name, went to the hostess and then returned saying that they were still backed up with carryouts and we'd have to wait to be served - even though she seemed like she would have helped us, but was told "not to serve us yet". I asked how long we would have to wait and she asked how long we'd been waiting, and once told she responded "I don't know, 5 more minutes maybe?" Then she shrugged and walked off, like even she wasn't sure what was going on. "..." We ended up just walking out, and weren't even acknowledged as we did. Of course, there were still those 4 ladies hanging out around greeter station, with 'nuthin ta do' apparently when they easily could have sat and served us. You know, the whole "do the job they're paid to do" kinda thing? Maybe? Even a little? I guess not. I bet this place loses a lot of business this way. If you read the other reviews beforehand (my mistake I didn't!), you'll see that there is always some make-believe reason they make you wait when the place isn't even busy. I know there is change over for dinner service but really? There is no excuse for whatever is going on here 'cause they have enough servers to do their job just not enough that want to do their job. We wound up taking our $60 sushi lunch to O'Sushi down the road instead, which isn't run like some super exclusive club that makes you wait for the sake of waiting while they netflix and chill minus the netflix at their job. *epic eyeroll* This place needs a serious service overhaul. Well anyway, if you do go to Benihana, go to the Troy one and have Chef Billy make you some super awesome sushi. It's a much better experience! read more

Very good food. We went here for lunch and had a great experience. Diner here can be a pain as many rude/cheap show-up - but for lunch it is great! Rob was our chef and did a better than excellent job. I've been here many, many times and this experience was fantastic. All food was cooked perfect and the service was very good. Garlic butter here is amazing. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes steak & seafood. Please don't do the standard - steak & chicken. Chicken ordered at a place like this is just a waste of time. Scallops, lobster, filet, salmon and of course shrimp are the way to go. Order two lunch portions and its cheaper than a diner portion and you get just as much food (obviously you can only do this during lunch hours). Sushi here is also excellent. I have dined at this establishment many times, however, I was completely taken by surprise on Monday, November 12, 2018. I was in the restuarant to attend a Birthday celebration for a Friend I've known since Kindergarten. My friends, (3) and I joined the Group table of (4), total 8, late, due to some mis-communication at the Host Station. We joined: a couple and a Mother & Daughter for our meal. The Server who appeared immediately, seemed a little un-easy as though SOMETHING had upset her. She was very short, rude and went through eye rolling, lip smacking and hand on hip gestures to take our orders. The Mother & Daughter were not tolerating her BAD Behavior and quickly "checked her". I had never experienced this type issue before. My Friends spoke up quickly in defense of the Mother & Daughter, as the Server was with Bad behavior in taking my Friends order....long story short! Out comes another rude and Bad mannered person-Rachel. I assume some part of Management tho she never introduced herself as such. She poured salt on the wound. I became enraged when she retorted to My Friend: This is your last opportunity to place your order! Unbelievable, I thought, what is going to be the outcome if my Friend doesn't place her order? The entire table was in dis-belief. Finally the order was placed and Armando-Chef was entertaining enough to relieve us of what we had just experienced. My Friends and I will return to this location in an attempt to dismiss any of this Bad Experience. I would hope that the Management might make an effort to compensate for this Very Bad Experience. I welcome the response from Upper Management. I will keep everyone posted on the outcome. I normally have photos to a accompany my review: Not This Time! read more

Rarely do I feel the need to leave a review on Yelp, but holy hell. We tried to place a carry-out order from a nearby hotel and after 10 minutes of being in "position 5" decided I ought to just drive over there. After twenty minutes of being on hold (I figured I'd see how long it would take) they pick up just as I'm pulling in. Now I need to place a carry-out order in the restaurant and that took me another 10 minutes. And then another 15 minutes for the employee to return so that I could confirm the order was being made (that's how disorganized this whole operation came off). It was pretty clear from interactions with other employees that carry-out wasn't their responsibility and they didn't want anything to do with it. So anyways, long story short, the order wasn't placed correctly, even after I confirmed it multiple times, and was missing entire components of the entree. I paid the $17 just to get the hell out of there. Terrible service. Terrible presentation. And for full disclosure, my wife worked at 3 of these locations in SE Michigan, all of which I understand were pretty stellar. It's 4:12 pm and the manager came out at 3:55 pm and apologized to us for the wait and promised to have the next available chef. First and last time I come here. I forgot to mention how rude our waitress was when I asked her how much longer it's going to be. Extremely frustrated right now. read more

We ordered online 3 hours early. Showed up when the order was suppose to be ready. It was really hard to get in touch with anybody and even calling it was difficult. Finally we were told it will be a little longer, which is ok, it's extraordinary times right now. We are constantly told it's coming up soon. 1 1/2 hours go by and after constantly being told our food is nearly ready we get our food. We get the food home and our food is cold. Pretty shitty all around. I should have looked on here before as I see it only has a 2.5 stars rating already. I'd keep away personally. I know I won't be back. read more

Dull and lazy service I would like to visit this place again not oppressed at all it's not the way it used to be

What used to be called Kyoto's is now Benihana. As you enter the restaurant, left side is sushi and traditional Japanese dishes, right side is the usual teppanyaki which Benihana is well known for. I always went to the left and always wondered why more people didn't do the same. Prices are significantly less in the sushi side. There is never any wait and the food is much better. Sure, you cannot get top quality Japanese food here, but getting decent Japanese food in Dearborn area is a treat. Their chirashi is pretty good with lots of fish. Their nabeyaki udon is also good. You can also ask for grilled sanma and ask for a bowl of rice on the side. Their service is very good. Highly recommend their boat lunch special. read more
