We weren't the biggest fan of the flavor, but I'd definitely try another cocktail next time. I got the gyoza, a cheeseburger with fries, and a 4 piece spicy salmon sushi snack. The cheeseburger was great, as were the fries. The pork gyoza was yummy, I liked the dipping sauce. My sushi was just okay, it wasn't bad, just nothing special. It was still a good deal for happy hour. Our server was also great! He found a knife so I could cut my burger, which seems small, but was really appreciated. I have been to Sukura many times. I can honestly say that I have never had a bad experience! The overwhelming majority of my Mother's family lives in Calif. and I have family in Seattle, too. Second and last time eating here. Beyond disappointed. Had 6:30 reservations for party of 4 to celebrate a birthday. Was told they were running behind and we would have a 25-30 min wait. At the 30 min point, one of us checked with host and was told that they canceled our reservation because we never checked in! At one point, I nicely told the manager we'd been waiting over an hour for our chef and asked if she had any idea when he would arrive. Happy Hour Is the Way to Go! Let's be honest, the landscape of restaurants from our childhood is changing. Gone are the days of American fare when Red Lobster, TGIFridays, Bennigans, and Olive Garden were rights of passage for you becoming an adult. Benihana is in that group and I would love for them to not be. Benihana brought my high school and college self the experience of hibachi grill without the danger of me venturing into unknown neighborhoods at night with my friends. This restaurant brought the experience to all neighborhoods and exposed me to a different culinary culture. It was a flex to work there when I was young and several birthdays, retirement parties, and baby showers started here. Look - it is different. There are younger servers, flustered managers in the generational divide, and diverse trained chefs now. That is a mixed bag. But bear with me and the restaurant to get a happy hour meal for two with $24 of sushi (4 rolls), $9 shrimp tempura, $9 sangria, and $9 large sake for a total of $64 dollars with tax. I was really excited to visit because it was my first time doing the hibachi grill ever. I was prepared for a good show and good food, especially because I was coming to celebrate my birthday. I made a reservation and noted that it was for a birthday. I brought my coupon to spend and the reservation was for a Friday. I later learned that they don't take the vouchers on Friday, which was my fault for not seeing the fine print, but it definitely started the experience off bad. Our reservation was for 6:45pm and we finally got seated at 7:01pm. After being seated and ordering, we waited over an hour and a half for our food to be started. We left the restaurant at 9:20pm, we were there for 2.5 hours! Once our chef started cooking, we didn't get a full show because they were running so late. We missed out on the fire that we saw every other table get and that made the experience lackluster. I'm not sure if they're required to do all of the show, but it was just us watching the chef cook, which was slightly awkward. Our server was so busy, they barely checked on us. We didn't even get some of the courses we were to get and didn't get our water refilled until the very end of the meal when we were about to leave. The food itself was bland without any of the sauces and for the cost of the entree and experience, it was over priced. For the cost of what we got, it was truly not worth it. Every other table seemed like they had fun, it was pretty loud and lively. Our table was quiet and it was hard watching everyone get seated after us and eat before eus and get a dynamite show. We didn't get anything we were expecting. I understand it was a busy night, but it was a terrible wait even with a reservation, and service was super slow and not attentive. Though all staff was nice and treated us kindly, it was still a terrible experience overall. Some people at our table had to leave before we got our food due to the wait and I don't blame them. They offered a free appetizer to make up for this which was great! The bartender Jeremy was great pulling double duty making drinks and helping take orders. Then I walked around the corner to be sat at the bar. There were dirty glasses all over the bar, there was nobody in the area, except for what seem to be the bartender with her hood up on her phone sitting in a booth. Finally, after at least 5 to 7 minutes, she came over to my table and asked me if she can get me started with anything. I asked her for water, she then asked me if I wanted an appetizer and I asked her for a menu (which clearly I didn't already have) she rolled her eyes, went to grab the menu and slammed it back on the table. Who in their right mind would stay there, spend money, and receive that type of service? As someone who is in the service industry, her attitude, the cleanliness and the service was absolutely terrible. How they're still thriving... I have no idea. But to roll your eyes at a customer after they asked you for a menu is ridiculous. The crazy part about all of it is I had a $30 gift certificate for my birthday, which I planned on celebrating there... After she slammed my menu, I walked out because I do not want that kind of service. I did nothing to her to deserve her attitude. This Benihana location is terrible! Today, we had a reservation and waited 30 minutes, before being told that we would have to wait at least another 20 minutes to get our table. If they knew we would have to wait this long, they could have said this up front so we could have snagged a table in the lounge. After being told we would basically have to wait an hour for our table despite having a reservation, we head to the lounge and they were now too crowded as well. The waiter basically came over and said, "I'll get to you when I can because I'm slammed". We ended up leaving. On another visit we had prior to this (with a reservation), we had to leave because they did not have a chef and said we would have to wait. On yet another visit, we booked a reservation to eat in the lounge to try to avoid a long wait, and service was SO painfully slow. I will never return here. It's a shame how terrible this place has become. We used to come years ago and always had a great experience. Don't waste your time now. I would give it a negative star if I could. read more

March 9th visit/OpenTable reservation I'll start off with the positive: This review would be a one star if it were not for chef Devonte. If your brand could clone him, it might be saved. He was the most personable, professional and hardworking person I have encountered in service in quite sometime. Not only was he amazing at what should have been his ONLY job, preparing our food with flare....he was also covering for our absolute useless and borderline rude server. Devonte had to stop what he was doing more than once to go back to the kitchen to track down the food for the kids at our table, because the server just never brought it out and never bothered to come check on anyone. No chef at a hibachi restaurant should be playing server and busboy on top of cooking the food and entertaining the table. Which Devonte by the way, put on a masterclass in! My husband and I were sat at a table with two preschool age children and they were slight scared of the fire and hiding in ther parents and grant parents laps, by the end of the meal they were smiling and saying "yes chef!" "thank you chef". The only way I'd set foot back in this place is if I was promised he'd be my chef. Now on to our server. I don't know her name. Not because I don't remember, she never told us. We had to ask her for basic things like glasses for the $10 liter of sparking waters (which we were over charged for because we weren't brought out all them) the glasses were filthy. Wine bottle came with no glasses, and no chiller for the white. My single glass of wine came out AFTER the chef started cooking out meal. As did our appetizer. We sat and waited at our table for the chef for 45!mins (we honestly were sat too early and there's not enough chefs. You can tell by how many empty tables there are vs how many people are waiting.) and I couldn't get a glass of wine before the chef started cooking?! And then when I did get it...there was a gnat in it. By that point I was thirsty and the server had never come back. It's ridiculous that I had to tip on a $200 meal for 2 people for the most ridiculous service I can imagine from a server who couldn't even bother to bring a clean water glass. My ENTIRE tip should have gone to Devonte. He was doing multiple people's jobs with a smile and joy. He was the one who apologized for everything and tried to make all better before I even saw some things were wrong. I always love a good Japanese steak house. I usually go at lunch time but since I had a 30.00 of coupon went for dinner. It was slow which was fine for me because I had a table to myself. The chef was really nice and the server. I ordered the Hibachi Steak and Chicken which comes with soup, salad, vegetables, shrimp appetizer and rice. If you want fried rice it is extra. We made reservations for 6:30pm, but didn't get seated until 7:30. So know that at Benihana a reservation is actually just putting your name on the list. All parties that were waiting made reservations but no tables were ready in a timely way. The server took at least 15-20 minutes to do each step of the process, I had to ask him to take our orders. They didn't start cooking until 8pm. This process took forever and the server acted like he was SO busy. He was helping clean off tables and sweep instead of get us our drinks. It was absolutely ridiculous. The saving grace was Chef Austin! He saved it for us. This was for my son's 21st birthday and we've waited an hour and a half to see the chef cook food. I was incredibly upset about this. Chef Austin saved it. His sense of humor had the whole table engaged with his cooking. He talked to us, joked with my son and his friends, and even my 7 year old loved him. Once the food started it was a great experience. I understand that we can't rush how long it takes to cook food, but we were so far behind schedule and had plans after dinner. Our meals came with ice cream but we were so ready to leave that we asked for checks and to go containers. After another 10-15 minutes and the server explaining how overwhelmed and busy he is for the third time, he went on the explain how difficult it is to split up a party of 9 into 3 checks, even though we explained it to him 3 times. The manager never came to any of the tables to ask how our food was, experience, nothing. He was basically a host and doing Togo orders. Horribly managed restaurant and SO EXPENSIVE. Immediately when we arrived, the hosts were not nice and barely paid attention to us. The restaurant also felt very cramped and unclean. When we were finally sat, the waitress asked if we were celebrating anything and I mentioned it was my birthday. When we ordered, I took notice of the $7 upcharge for fried rice & the fact that my meal came with 6 courses (including hot tea and ice cream). When the chef came, he asked AGAIN if we were celebrating anything and my friends answered for me and he asked if I was shy? No. I'm just tired of telling you people it's my birthday. He then proceeded to make inside jokes with the other chefs that were cooking and completely ignored us. Right after we finished eating, the waitress immediately came over with our bills to pay when we were actively eating. She then asked if we needed anything else and I mentioned that my meal came with ice cream still (didn't even bring up the fact that our whole table was supposed to get the hot tea we never got). Our reservation time was set for 6:15pm and we didn't get seated until close to 6:30pm which is okay not too long. However, after putting in our order we did not get soup or salad until about 7:30pm. Our chef did not show up until about an hour later too in which my son was already very hungry by then and I am 31 weeks pregnant hungry as well. Our server was very new, he told us he was 3 days new which kind of discouraged us because we knew our orders were probably going to be taken incorrectly. He then told us that there was no bartender available and his manager had to step in. Later again told us that his sister is actually training as the new bartender which is why our drinks were taking so long. I also mentioned to the server that it is my birthday today what kind of special will I receive and that I signed up online for a certificate that'll give me $30 off. He said he'll run that by his manager and it did not get deducted. His manager said they don't apply that over the weekend and the email I had did not state that. We were there for over 2 hours tired and hungry that I did not want to argue anymore at that point and just wanted to leave. The food didn't taste good it was very over seasoned and everything was salty. Not to mentioned we asked for medium rare to medium done steak and everything came out well done. We did not get anyone singing happy birthday to us, green tea that was apart of the meal course and ice cream until I asked.
