Went here for like lunch today and our experience was good. We have been here before and the restaurant was very bad. I think that this place has finally gotten some good employee and some great cooks cause our food was very good and the chef was very entertaining. My review is based on the price is definitely overpriced. $6.50 upcharge for fried rice! also the meal itself is priced well above other Hibachi restaurants in the area and isn't better. We were so excited that there's still one in Cincinnati after our Seattle location closed. We arrived for our 7pm reservation and were asked to wait. We weren't given a wait time so we assumed this would be a short wait and didn't order drinks, but ended up sitting for 30 minutes before we were seated. It then took another 45 minutes before we were given the drinks that we ordered and were able to order our meals. After waiting another 45 minutes with no chef at the table we finally decided to leave. In total we were there 2 hours since when our reservation started, with no food served. Multiple tables who arrived after us were served first. Our waitress Chloe was incredibly rude to my father and law, and even after they said she wouldn't serve us anymore due to her rude comments she ended up serving the table next to us rather than being asked to leave. The table behind us received completely the wrong bills from our same original server. This is the worst level of service I've ever received at any dining experience in my life. It was completely unacceptable, and even after a manager came over and said they'd take care of it we still sat for another 20 minutes with nothing. The food was mediocre and dry. The host staff was very strange experience. I arrived at 11 when they opened and a man and his daughter were in front of me. When it was my turn to check in they asked for my reservation (literally no one was in the restaurant) and then asked when time I'd like to eat. Went this past Tuesday with 2 of my daughters for Happy Hour. While entering 3-4 employees were standing around the entrance and nobody greeted us. We went to the lounge area and sat waiting for someone to come greet us and take our order. No one came after 3-5 minutes. We went to the lobby and complained that no one acknowledged us and one of the staff stated they didn't see us. Absolute lies. How can you not see 3 women walk through those heavy giant doors that slam and make such noise? The restaurant was not busy and we heard them greet other customers that were there for the hibachi dinner service. A employee went to the lounge area and signed in to the computer behind the bar and looked at us and said nothing to us and left. Wow has this place fallen! We have been patrons for years. We called ahead for a reservation of 4. We arrived a few minutes early and I had a 9$ beer in the bar area, awaiting our table. After 30 minutes past our reservation time, I went to ask how much longer before we were able to be seated. A security guard Matt said just relax and they are running behind. "Just chill out". I told him I just need to know how much longer and he said "we can cancel your reservation, if you want". I said "really?" He said go back to the bar and wait. I said "don't be disrespectful". No apology only attitude. Then says what name is your reservation under. I tell him thinking he is gonna get us moved up, or make sure that we are seated soon, instead he yells cancel the reservation for our name. My wife upon hearing that stood up and asked for the manager. He then gives her attitude, saying we will cancel your reservation. She says no need we are! We ask for the manager, he said you don't need a manager, you need to leave. The manager does apologize, offers us a card to the general manager, all while the "security guard" continues to call us rude and not worth the restaurant's time. I was dumbfounded. Yes we were bothered, but rude and disrespectful, no! That was all Matt, the power position lover, security guard. In reading the past year reviews on the low quality food and service, it seems the last thing this place needs is to be turning good patrons away before getting food and seated. In the past we have had good experiences here, but after tonight we have vowed as a family to never, ever go there again. The place looks rougher than in the past. Large space heaters (furnace issue?), aging furniture, and definitely less personable staff. We think this place is on the decline and only a matter of time before it will be closed. For the money you will spend on this place there are multiple options for much less with better quality food, service, and environment. Our reservation was 6:45, we were sat at 7:30... the chef didn't come to our table until 9:20. (That's almost 2 hours after being sat at the table) They only have 2 servers and 3 chefs. I understand being understaffed but it wasn't handled well at all. (This is NOT the servers or chefs fault). Honestly, I expected the bill to come out with a discount and it didn't. I asked our server for the manager, the manager came over and I asked if there was anyway I could get a discount. He nodded and grabbed the check and walked away. After another 10/15 minutes he came back. It did have a discount and it was satisfactory. But I feel I shouldn't have had to ask. About 5 years ago we attended Benihana's in the middle of the winter and it was extremely cold inside the dining area. At the time we were informed that there was an issue with the heating system. Well, unfortunately five years later and they haven't fixed the problem with the heat. In an attempt to celebrate my niece's birthday we made a reservation for ten and while we were seated promptly we immediately noticed the frigid temperature in the restaurant, it was so cold that we all had to leave our coats and gloves on just to try to stay warm. The manager brought out a space heater but that did absolutely nothing (also confirms that they know they have a problem if one was just readily available). To make matters worse, the restaurant was extremely busy and they appeared to not have enough cooks. We were seated at 7 and after 45 minutes we inquired about the wait time for us to be served food and we were told it will would be an additional 30 minutes for a cook to come to our area. Needless to say, we made an executive decision to leave. This place is pretty mediocre to begin with and I doubt that we'll return. Maybe it's better in the summer time, but this is easily one of the worst experiences I've had at a restaurant. A iconic restaurant with excellent entertainment and delicious food. Have you ever seen a onion volcano that erupts and then you eat it? How about an egg roll? You have to go here to know what I'm talking about. Sushi, hibachi grilled food, and yum yum sauce. Tempura, fried rice, surf and turf. All is cooked right before your eyes!! The cooks are the best they pay special attention to make each and every person at the table feel welcomed. They are comedians too LOL. Great place and worth the price. read more

However when we called for a reservation they failed to inform us that they would not have the air condition on, or the fact that the building is under construction and the bathrooms were in a trailer in the parking. It was 90 degrees outside and the inside of the restaurant was warmer. The chief and server did a good job, how ever the rest of the service was so-so. Ordered lunch today via uber eats bc I was craving Benihana's for months. Although the food can be a bit pricey I decided to splurge. I ordered a chicken talisman which came with mainly noodles, approximately 4 bits of chicken and barely any veggies. The veggies I did have were raw. I ordered bout chicken fried rice and veg rice and only received one and the rice was still white.. so steamed rice with additions. Then I received the tiniest amount of dressing which is the highlight of the salad obviously and it didn't even make the slightest difference. I'm usually very pleased! Having a six year old in the party, we had to visit the facilities right away. Unfortunately, the restrooms were unavailable and we were directed outside to the portalets. Starting with not giving out enough straws for drinks (2/8) to overcooking every protein ordered and unordered. Unorganized. Went to Benihana in Tri-County, Springdale, OH, trying to celebrate my birthday. I asked for extra Ginger sauce. Eugene here refused to give me extra, even after my daughter said she'd pay for extra. When my daughter complained, Eugene refused to serve us. Wow! Way to ruin my birthday! I am pretty sure it was racially motivated. Hey Benihana, I like my food served without racism! Waited an hour and a half for the chef to even get to our table. And this was with reservations! Completely unacceptable. Then when asked to speak to the "manager" some old guy who was a complete d**k and was seating everyone was rude to my husband as he questioned why we had to wait so long and his response was "everyone has to wait" Ummmm.... no sir that is not an appropriate response to disgruntled and angry patrons. Our waiter got almost all our orders wrong and he was writing down the wrong things and was writing orders that we didn't even order and he didn't even check up on us until it was time to leave and the waitress fixed all of our orders because our waiter wasn't paying attention to us at all and we were all getting aggravated and frustrated because a waitress had to fix our orders because our waiter could not even look our direction. Who knows how many other people he's doing this to and how long he's been doing it because no other table should have to experience this. I was a first time visitor tonight and was not sure what to expect. We arrived at about 6:30 and hung out by the bar while we briefly waited for our table. The atmosphere was very comforting and had an astounding bartender while we waited about 10 minutes for the table. I got the souvenir cup with my drink that was only about $7 more (so worth it). The women working at the front bar was so sweet and made a perfect exotic mojito. As we arrived at our table we had a very nice family to the left and a couple to our right. Never being here I had my friend order for me and he definitely made the right choice. I was very surprised on the extensive menu as well as drink options. Our waitress was very diligent and I never had an empty glass of water. I went with the chicken teriyaki and LOVED it. The chef was very professional, talented and cooked everything perfectly. Along with my entree I got a side salad and miso soup prior- both phenomenal. Amazing dressing on the salad, and delicious soup filled with my favorite, mushrooms. My friend got the sherbet ice cream after.. even not liking sweets I tasted it and it was super refreshing and delicious. Ate here with wife tonight for about the tenth time in last 5 years. As always, with a 30.00 birthday certificate (and only under those conditions) The experience has always been about the same. We have never had the quintessentially bad experience that would only justify only one star (usually exaggerated) There seem to have been some improvements in last year or two. Parking lot is in better shape--didn't see any large holes. Décor has been updated inside. There was a portable air conditioner running, but not hot outdoors and indoor temp was not uncomfortable. Service was friendly and attentive throughout. Chef was efficient. As usual, I got filled up and had to take some home with me. Yes, there is still a security guard inside, and I'm not quite sure why. Is the Tri County area THAT bad? Have there been a rash of dine-and-dash incidents here or something? Who knows? All in all, our experience was pleasant, though, and we will probably keep returning twice a year Those with food allergies (e.g. onions, as tonight) need to make that clear at the beginning and their dinner will be cooked separately. Also, lots of butter and salt are used here, so those on restricted diets might want to look elsewhere.If half-stars were an option, I would give this place 3.5 stars. read more

My first Benihana experience was 2 or 3 years ago and I had the same experience that most people have noted. Slow and bad service, long waits, etc. Our time was so bad that part of our meals ended up being comped. Fast forward about 3 years and I received my annual birthday voucher. I hadn't bothered with it last year, but this year I really wanted some hibachi. Despite the terrible reviews I made reservations for myself and my cousin for a weeknight dinner. I arrived about 8 minutes late for our reservation time and my cousin was waiting in the bar area. She'd arrived just before me which means our wait to be seated wasn't long at all. There was one other couple seated across from us, making it pretty comfortable. We placed our orders and our server went off to get our soup. Our chef came out by the time our salads were brought to the table. I never realized the servers are the ones that turn the grill on for the chef until our chef said he needed to wait for the grill to heat up. That took a very long time. About 20 minutes later he was finally cooking. I guess the vent at our table was broken cause the smoke from the cooking food was blowing right into our faces. It was bad, to the point where we both started coughing a little. The food was delicious. I was very disappointed in the small portion of chicken fried rice I received and I get why my cousin asked for an extra. You should also request your extra sauces and butter BEFORE the chef takes off, they will charge you after he's gone. I don't really feel like Benihana is worth the price anymore. Yes, the food is good, but they charge for every little thing and there are so many rules. This place is also very outdated. Also, they do this birthday song and dance thing like it's freakin TGI Fridays in 1998. Very very annoying after the fourth time hearing it. She couldn't tell me how much longer and while asking her to explain, other guests left saying they waited at their table for an hour and had yet to be served. I don't even write reviews but I have to about this place, the main hosts that works the front are awful. I've watched this restaurant slowly go in the trash. This is the second time I've had a reservation to get there and be told I don't or that the open table app doesn't always work. It was my grandma's 78th birthday, she's in a wheelchair and they claimed they were booked even after I pulled the reservation up on my phone.
