For breakfast, I ordered the Eggs Benedict. They offer two versions: one with pulled beef and one Florentine. As someone from the US who's a bit of an Eggs Benedict snob, I've tried countless versions over the years, and pulled beef just wasn't something I could picture working with it. I went with the Florentine and customized it by adding bacon, avocado, and a side of sausage. One thing I've learned while visiting the UK is that the sausages are much larger than what I'm used to back home! I honestly could have skipped it because it was so filling. The Benedict itself was unique--the base was almost like a buttery croissant instead of a traditional English muffin, and it came with pickled red onions, which was an interesting touch. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly, and I especially enjoyed it with the added bacon. The food was fresh, high quality, and beautifully prepared. There was plenty of seating both inside and outside, but I chose to sit outside and enjoy some people watching, which made for a relaxing start to the day. Therefore, I feel justified for having higher expectations and a more critical mindset going into this experience. Don't let the 3-star Yelp review discourage you. There's a lot going for this place. There's a reason why it's so highly acclaimed. They wrote us handwritten cards upon arrival joining in my graduation celebration and my sister finding a job. Many dishes were innovative, bold, and risky, and the executed them well. A singular tomato. A broth. A ravioli. Nothing to hide behind. The setting was extremely intimate, classy, and made for a special evening. The whole night I felt spoiled. That being said, I now present my list of grievances: - My dad (what we think) was allergic to the vanilla-scented air freshener. Sniffling the entire night. - Many dishes were unmemorable or basic. Some too salty. Or too gray. Or too rich. Hit or miss I'd say. Nothing to set it apart. I was let down in this aspect. - Some dishes were just difficult to eat. The last dessert, meant to be eaten with your hands, featured a lemonade jelly and a chocolate toffee. The jelly left your hands all sticky and the chocolate melted immediately. - Service basically stopped once we concluded our last course. We were left waiting for the check for 15-20 minutes. We needed water after the desserts being very sweet. - Stingy on the bread (me being nit-picky). Only one small loaf of bread is included to be shared between the four of us. Extra loaves available for extra cost. Oh, and sparkling water cost extra too. - Take a picture of the menu! They don't let you take home a copy of the menu, which is something I typically look forward to with these dining experiences. Call me a "donut", "donkey", or an "idiot sandwich", but there are a lot of restaurants that only have one Michelin star (or even none!) that deserve much more attention. And in a place like London, you best bet that there are better options out there.

Everything felt insanely intentional. Not fussy for the sake of being fussy. Just precise, gorgeous, and delicious in a way that's hard to explain without sounding dramatic. So yes, I will be dramatic. Highlights: * Scottish razor clams: delicate, bright, perfectly balanced, and the presentation was stunning. This was the first "oh wow" moment and it only escalated from there. * Linguine with native lobster: I would happily eat this in silence and defend it in court. The lobster was sweet and tender, the sauce/foam situation was rich but not heavy, and the herbs made it feel fresh instead of over-the-top. * John Dory: cooked flawlessly. That sweet, clean fish with the warmer, deeper sauce was a perfect "fine dining but still comforting" moment. * Bath Stoneham Farm Wagyu with the Hasselback potato / black garlic / horseradish: the wagyu was ridiculous (obviously), but that potato deserves its own fan club. Crispy edges, soft inside, and the flavors were bold without drowning anything out. Desserts were also not playing: * The lychee and jasmine sorbet was light and floral and just what you want mid-menu when you're like, "How many more courses can I emotionally handle?" * The Guanaja 70% with blood orange, ginger, vanilla was deep, chocolatey, and bright at the same time. Plus it looked like art. I'm still thinking about it. Service was immaculate. Warm, confident, and timed perfectly. Nobody hovered, nobody disappeared, and every course landed like it had a purpose. We ordered the Mushroom Parfait, Leek Caesar Salad, and the Sunday Roasts: Dairy Cow Rump and Rolled Pork Belly. The Mushroom Parfait was smooth, creamy, and had a subtle sweetness that paired beautifully with the toast. The only downside was that the toast wasn't quite crunchy enough, which took away from an otherwise delicious starter. The Leek Caesar Salad came with lettuce, radicchio, anchovy dressing, smoked bacon, and a large, paper-thin crouton. Surprisingly, we couldn't really taste the anchovy in the dressing, but the smoked bacon was excellent thick, chunky pieces with just the right amount of saltiness. The oversized crouton was fun to crack into smaller pieces before eating. I'd never had such thin slices of lemon served in a salad before, but they actually worked really well. I just wish they had been a little more generous with the dressing that would have made it perfect. The Rolled Pork Belly was the highlight of the meal. It had beautiful alternating layers of tender lean meat and rich fat, topped with wonderfully crispy crackling. It was served with a sweet orange jelly that had a soft, pudding-like texture, pairing beautifully with the pork and adding just enough sweetness without making the dish feel too heavy. It was rich, flavorful, and surprisingly not overly filling. Unfortunately, the Dairy Cow Rump was a huge disappointment. The meat was incredibly tough and almost impossible to chew. Even after cutting it into small pieces, we ended up having to swallow some of it because it simply wouldn't break down. It definitely wasn't what we expected from a Sunday roast. Service was a bit of a mixed experience. Our first two starters arrived within about 10 minutes, but after that we waited over half an hour for our main courses. Considering it was already around 2:00 p.m., that was a very long wait, and we spent most of the time just sitting at our table wondering when our food would arrive. The server who initially took care of us was warm and friendly, but once another staff member took over, he never came back to check on us or update us about the delay. :(
