Once in a while you come across a place that makes you proud of being intrepid... and Oi Spaghetti is one of those places.
Down a dark alley near Peckham Rye station, in a garden shed, we came across Francesco, a chef who makes Italian food on a hotplate that is by far one of the best meals that I have had in the UK for a long time.
The shed itself, small with only 3 tables was instantly welcoming, full of house plants and home-made decorations, accompanied with a pocket sized kitchen - where the magic happened!
If you could distill 'quaint', this place would be it.
You can order separately, but we opted for the £10 set meal, starter, main and desert. We started with freshly cut seasonal vegetables, fresh and tasty bread with olive oil for dipping, my main was the frittata (kale and courgette, topped with spinach leaves, grated cheese and balsamic), and for desert, tiramisu.
It was a very simple meal made with quality ingredients, and it was simply delicious! The frittata was divine, fresh, delectable and each bite was a taste explosion... and the home made tiramisu in itself was worth the venture - being the best I have had!
It's BYOB, and Francesco told us that he prefers smaller groups and won't take larger bookings - due to the logistics of size.
It was a real pleasure having Francesco cook for us, and to be able to talk to him directly about his cooking ethos and business, his plans and the amazing food we were eating, you could see the passion that he has for cooking and his attention to detail.
