Upon entering my…read moregirlfriend and I were amazed by the decor, it is much more contemporary styled compared to other Turkish restaurants I have visited. I would say it is more of a smart casual affair than I was expecting. The food prices are still competitive and what you expect from this cuisine with most grilled meats and fish coming in just north of £10. Starters sit around the £5 mark. I ordered the simple lamb shish, my girlfriend the iskinder kebab (lamb baked in a tagine with yoghurt). For starters we shared hummus and fried white bait. The white bait was excellent with a real fresh zing, the hummus lovely and rich with the free bread and olives served with your meal. The lamb was delicious in both the mains and they were very generous portions - we had to ask for a doggy bag to take home. If I was to be very picky, I would have preferred the pitta bread to be a little less 'toasty'. I like the warmed breads from Turkish restaurants which have been grilled with the fat of the meats! We didn't need a reservation for a Saturday night when we arrived before 8pm. Though it was very full all evening. I would definitely return.

Our platter arrived and regrettably the lamb ribs and chops were off, possibly due to sitting out all day during a quiet period for business. In fairness we were given three small chicken wings in response but ribs and chops are the highlight of any Turkish platter. Had the meat not gone bad this may have been a decent experience because the rest of the dish was enjoyable and the staff are friendly. The prices are also reasonable for what is a nicely varied menu.

Guiding like a lighthouse, it stands to protect all who are hungry from the treacherous lack of food possibilities down Peckham's most odiferous promenade. I can't believe I'm about to say a kebab shop is a breath of fresh air, but after walking down Rye Lane before the dustcarts collect the people-high rubbish on the streets; when the gutters smell of fish guts, but your stomach is churning with hunger and yet churning from the stinks from the street, the fresh cool air-con and the pure smokey delights inside Flamin Mangal are flaming amazing. I loved the fish counter, the soft fresh toasted pillowy Pide and the free Turkish tea. This is probably the best Mangal a gal could find without heading up to the Turkish part of town. The seating area inside is cavernous. You could host a massive mates feast and be treated like Sultans. We were greeted like friends and left feeling like very stuffed Sultans. I don't think I'll ever have to take a jaunt up to my favourite haunt, Haringey again. Also, after bussing it out of town, my first stop when eating food is to wash my hands. Natch. I don't believe I have ever given a place a extra star for it's 'facilities' before, but with a bathroom that was a marvel in marble, I thought I'd give them an extra shiny star for that.
