Great food and good service, unfortunately for me, there was a very loud table of 8 ladies getting together and that certainly damped the enjoyment of the meal, not that the restaurant could have done anything about it, bottom line great food, reasonable wines and good service. Will have to try it again:)

Great dinner in this small place close to my hotel. Wonderful service and excellent food. Melon, prosciutto and basil sorbet was the perfect start on a hot day. My lamb was grilled perfectly and served with eggplant and beans in a lovely sauce. A nice white wine complemented the meal. Dessert looked amazing however I was too full. Will come again when I am here.

Went for my birthday. Great Michelin listed food. Go for pre theatre menu 6-7 weekdays as a la carte is pricey.

Service, food, ambience, vibes, sophistication. Consistently just perfect! Best in London by far.read more

My sister-in-law wanted to go to Sketch while we were in London, so I booked a table for us (plus…read moremy husband and brother) on our last night in town. When I looked it up, I learned that it had three Michelin stars, and that I had been once before, on a random date in 2009. Sketch, it turns out, is about five bars and restaurants in one. The part I remembered was the East Bar & Pods, with the giant egg-shaped bathrooms. Dinner was in the Lecture Room & Library, a completely different space with a completely different feel. It was spectacular, the decor bright and over the top, an opulent Wonderland fantasy. We sat in giant armchairs in muppet colors, surrounded by expensive upholstery and crystal. Service was impeccable, warm and attentive, well deserving of those Michelin stars. We drank well, starting with a round of cocktails. I liked my Manhattan, with bourbon, pineapple rum, sweet vermouth, crème de cacao, muscovado, and chocolate mole and Creole bitters. The Champs-Élysées was great, too, with Henessy VSOP, green Chartreuse, lemon, sugar, and peach bitters. I was also impressed with the mint-green Grasshopper, a dangerously drinkable mix of two rums, Briottet menthe verte and cacao blanc, Velvet Falernum, and cream. Once dinner started in earnest, we enjoyed the wine pairing, seven thoughtfully selected wines to go with our tasting menu. They were all lovely, and added a lot to the experience. We opted for the tasting menu over the a la carte, which offered more choice but actually cost £10 more. This was the right choice, no decisions and a stream of surprising delights, starting with a spread of welcome bites. There was cured sea bass with strawberry and a foam of green peas, a mussel with green curry, a tiny tartlet of parmesan and chorizo. Compressed watermelon with Campari, mozzarella rolled in zucchini, a sandwich of shiso, green apple, and lime. Two little jellies came served on ice: a burst of tomato and olive, and another of dirty martini. Bread service brought butter brioche, fennel focaccia, and a brown bread with candied walnut and currant. A trio of butters, too, salted, caramel, and citrus. Then, the first course of the tasting menu. Cornish mackerel and shellfish mariniere with leek and Dijon mustard, as well as duck foie gras Chantilly with confit red bell peppers and nasturtium leaf ice cream. Superb. Course two was all about lobster. Native lobster tail coated in carrot reduction with lemon, with borlotti beans, smoked aubergine, green strawberry, and zucchini. Then a lettuce roll stuffed tight with claw meat, along with fromage blanc, mint, and sweet corn. The third course was built around tomato. Tomato foam emulsified with olive oil, topped with tapenade and pistachio, and dried tomato leaf with oregano; a sort of tostada with tomato, grilled spinach leaves, onion, caper, and shortcrust; tomato pan-fried with chickpea flower on a Montgomery cheddar mousse with pink pepper; a cool, intense clarified consommé with tarragon. Next, a unique blue fin tuna tartare, with Japanese rice, Oscietra caviar, vodka pearls, and smoked eel sauce infused with pinecones. Then, a wild sea bass fillet cooked in demi-sel butter and wrapped in cabbage, served over squid with anchovy, tomatillo, and scallion with chorizo. Our last savory course was French black leg chicken with Perrier-Jouët Brut "sauce ivoire," summer leaves fondue, fresh almonds, and apricot coulis; as well as confit chicken thigh with potato crystalline and sorrel with raspberry. Dinner ended with a dessert extravaganza. If my notes are to be trusted, we had poached strawberry and rhubarb with pineapple granita, wasabi, and finger lime; orange yogurt foam with hazelnuts; an il flotante with peach and sangria jelly; rhum baba with orange foam and pink grapefruit marmalade; a Chartreuse parfait with white chocolate, celery, and verjus; and a chocolate tart with layers of pastry dough and crispy capers. Finally, a few mignardises, which I failed to document. It was 11:30 by the time we settled up, but we asked to see the rest of Sketch and ended up staying until one in the morning. We skipped the East Bar, which was too loud, but used the egg pods. Less impressive this time around, reminiscent of airplane bathrooms. The Lecture Room bathroom, on the other hand, was a Vegased out infinity room. We had a nightcap in the Glade, a stunningly beautiful lounge with excellent cocktails. I had the Glade twist on the Kingston Negroni, with pineapple rum, cachaça, Campari, vermouth, strawberry, and tomato water. My husband had a Gin Basil Smash with yuzu liqueur, basil, and citrus. I believe my brother and sister-in-law had a Gimlet with sake, Belvedere, tutti-frutti, and olive brine, and a Porn Star Martini with Belvedere, passion fruit, citrus, sugar, vanilla, and Champagne. A+ all around. If you want to treat yourself in London, Sketch is a truly marvelous destination. Splurge on dinner, or just grab a drink and use the loo.

The restaurant is gorgeous as well but what really makes the entire experience is the staff. From the host to the waitstaff, everyone was beyond lovely and kind. Special shout outs to Jacob from NY and Bella from Vancouver BC that were just the best. We started with the artichokes and radishes, both of which were lovely. We did the mushroom entree and the homemade tahini and pitas were to die for. Last but not least the sticky toffee soft serve was delish - I ate every single bite. Great dinner spot for my first proper visit to London!

We grabbed dinner reservations for 8:00 pm and were seated at a really cute booth by the kitchen pass area. I got the shiso spritz and my husband tried a couple of their mocktails which he enjoyed thoroughly. Foodwise, we got the crispy aubergine tops, sprouting broccoli, tropea onions, potatoes with creme fraiche and the mixed grill mushroom. The two standouts were the aubergine tops and the tropea onions where I was really ready to LICK THE PLATE. The onions with the ricotta were seasoned to perfection with just a bit of spice. The aubergine was breaded and fried to cronchy heaven and I could eat a bucket of these if they were presented to me. The potatoes were good but needed a touch more seasoning; and the broccoli was also a great dish but paled in comparison to the stars. The mixed mushroom main was good but not our favorite as the seasoning blend on them became a tad overwhelming for us as we ate. Dessert wise, we grabbed the miso caramel which was delicious. Service was super friendly and efficient. 10/10 you HAVE to try this place if you are in the area (or you know, trek out a bit if you're not :P) You will not regret this meal, trust me.

We arrived early and sat in the bar/lounge area to sip cocktails while we waited. I ordered the Velvet Eclipse, essentially an espresso martini. It was rich, not too sweet, and not too bitter. It was perfect. They also brought out green olives and savory seasoned crackers for us to snack on. They kept them refilled as well, which was nice. The service was fantastic and we never wanted for anything. We did their three course menu with the wine pairing. The Sommelier was brilliant and I loved everything he selected. To start, they brought out a bread basket and amuse bouche which consisted of a savory cream puff filled with a liver mousse and a little tartlet. Both were excellent bites. For my first course, I had the risotto primavera. It was cooked to perfection and the saltiness of the Parmesan with the sweetness of peas was incredible. Next, I had their steak, which was absolutely perfect. It came with a mushroom ketchup that really elevated the meat's natural flavors. For dessert, I had the Congolese chocolate torte, which was incredibly rich while having such a light texture. Each course was excellent and imaginative. Be sure to do the wine pairing, it's well worth it! This was truly a Michelin star experience!

Every staff member from the hostess to the servers made me feel very welcome and were so enthusiastic about the menu. I chose courses -- a duck, pork and guinea fowl terrine as a starter, cumbrian lamb as my main, and wild honey ice cream for dessert. To drink I believe I had an English sparkling wine to start and then a Malbec for the lamb. It was all so delicious, I didn't want it to end. And for dessert the server brought out an actual honeycomb to the table and served freshly cut (?) the honey into the ice cream. The ice cream also came with freshly baked madelines. There was also a recommendation to pair the dessert with a whiskey (the name of which I can't remember--ha!ha!) I accepted the recommendation, and though it was a simple dessert, it was one of the best things I have eaten. The whiskey made a wonderful pairing. Highly recommend this establishment!

Thankfully, a friend tracked one down in Mayfair and we ended up at Gordon Ramsay's Heddon Street Kitchen. The restaurant was busy and trendy, with a lively vibe that still worked well for families, especially with their ice cream bar. Kids eat free on weekdays, which is a nice touch. Unfortunately, the service didn't quite match the energy of the room - our fries were forgotten, and our food took over 45 minutes to arrive, which even the staff acknowledged. What we tried: * Beef Wellington - Beautiful presentation, but it fell apart once we sliced into it. The beef itself wasn't as tender as we were hoping for, especially given the hype and the name on the door. * Tofu Poke Bowl - A rich aioli tied everything together nicely. The cucumbers added a refreshing crunch that kept it closer to the original poke concept. * Sea Bream - Generous portion size, but the fish was overcooked and turned out quite dry. * Kids' Mac and Cheese - Surprisingly excellent. It looked almost soupy at first glance, but the sauce was actually very creamy and cheesy, and the kids liked it enough to ask for seconds. * Kids' Meatball Pasta with Tomato Sauce - The pasta and sauce were solid, but the meatballs were dry, as if they'd been overcooked or left too long. The kids did get to enjoy the ice cream bar and loved being able to pick whatever their wild imaginations desired. Overall, with the long wait times, missed items, and some overcooked dishes, the experience fell short of what I'd expect from a Ramsay restaurant. I wanted to be blown away, especially by the Beef Wellington, but left feeling underwhelmed.
