I called a couple of days ago to setup an appointment to get my eyebrows done. It was super simple and quick. I haven't actually had my brows shaped in...basically 10 years. I've never been to the Ulta in Alameda, so I arrived a little early. Well I had to walk around the whole store to find the Benefit area (even though it's massive)...for some reason I walked in and turned left and decided to walk around the whole store LOL Anyways, I got to the Benefit Bar area and Alexandra (or Alex) was the person there today. And she was great! She had checked me into the system. Asked me to fill out a form. Asked me various questions about whether or not if ive had a chemical peal, or things related to my skin care routine. She sanitized in between everything. She explained everything she was doing. It was quick and simple. She was very kind. I highly recommend that if you make an appointment, you schedule with Alexandra. I'll definitely be back! read more

Friendly, used hand sanitizer between uses, fair prices ($12 for brows). The quality is great in results. Only thing that has me ensuring I double mask and wash right after is that I wanted a higher level of sanitation between clients and for the esthetician to use gloves. While she used hand sanitizer, using new gloves (and keeping that alcohol from the hand sanitizer off my sensitive face) and wiping down the seat between uses would have been appreciated. The customer service at this store is horrible and quite disappointing. Management is non responsive. BEWARE WHEN PLACING AN ORDER FOR PICK UP IN STORE. I placed an order for pick up, I failed to see I only had 5 days to pick up. I go to pick up on the 6th day as soon as they open and I was told they had put item back because it wasn't picked up within the time. Understandable. I was told I shouldn't of been charged. Well I check my account and I was charged, I wait a few days and I have not been refunded. I call customer service and I'm told I need to deal with the store directly. A few days go by and I receive an email from the store, they stated my item was picked up. I respond and say no, I had not picked up. Crickets!!! I send a follow up email and same thing, no response. I gave up on trying to obtain my refund. It's just disappointing and concerning that they don't properly check who they are giving out orders to. read more

Let's just keep this place my little secret, my little ace in the pocket. Keep it on the down-low. I don't want folks to catch on that Ulta has a Benefit Brow Bar where you can get waxing, shaping, and false eyelash application. Appointments or walk-ins! I needed some false eyelashes to add a dramatic look to a special event the next day. I called around town, using Yelp, of course, but many eyelash extension places were booked, as it was prom season, graduation season, wedding season, you name it! Also, the going rate for a set of lashes is $150. Add 150 bones to the cost of a dress, shoes, mani-pedi, and spending that much for lashes would be imprudent! So, I had an inkling to call Ulta. The staff who answered the Brow Bar phone had a little vocal fry going on and said it would only cost $15 to have semi-permanent lashes applied on my little lashes! "One-five?" I clarified, making sure he didn't say "50." "One-five," he said, "Fifteen dollars." I booked an appointment for 5:45 pm and happily made my way to South Shore. Kiara is the it-girl of the Benefit Brow Bar at Ulta. She walked me through the options of the individual lashes--short/natural, medium, and long/super dramatic--all made of human hair. I chose a generic brand, medium length--only $3.99 for the set. I then sat at the brightly lit, nicely air-conditioned make-over area, trying not to blink as Kiara painstakingly applied each lil' do-dad on to my lids. The glue she used is off-black so when it dries, it looks like you have eyeliner on. The whole session took about 30 minutes! I was out of there in no time! Free parking. Easy to make an appointment or simply walk-in. Conveniently located near Trader Joe's, Jamba Juice, Panera Bread, and Daiso! Forget going into SF or Emeryville! Kiara you Rock! She did my eyebrows on Saturday. I can't begin to express what a great experience I had. She took her time, checked in with me. She even put me on to a beautiful concealer that she applied on my red spots over my brows. The time and detail she took, I would of thought it would be way more expensive. And I can forget the fill in was perfect. I was scared because I like my eye brows thick but clean, and the ladies of Asian decent have taken them off She is very gentle and has a nurturing disposition. I just moved to Alameda a week ago and decided to explore the town a bit and found a Benefit Brow Bar inside local Ulta. Although an appointment is recommended, they welcome walk-ins when station is available. Kristal was the lady who helped me. She was very nice courteous. I had my brows done yesterday at the Benefit Brow Bar by Katelyn and it was absolutely the best brow experience ever! I've had my brows done for years, but only at nail/hair salons and this was no comparison. Katelyn asked me about my brows, told me what she was going to do, did a fantastic job and then used a few different Benefit products to finish the job. I usually just pencil in my brows, but she used "Gimme Brow" with fibers and they really made a difference on my usually thin brows. I didn't buy the product yesterday, but after seeing how great my brows still looked at the end of the day, I plan to get some very soon. I did make an appointment in advance and I would recommend that because someone stopped by while I was there and it was over an hour wait for the next appointment. Thanks Katelyn! This was one of the worst experiences I have had with waxing. I went in for a brow & lip wax. A young slender African-American lady began waxing my lip. The only reason I am describing her is because I did not get her name. Needless to say I was left with a raw bleeding upper lip. She claimed it could be from medicine I use for my eczema. But I have been waxing for years and never has my skin lift and torn from my face. She tried her best to place relieving agents on the wound. The brow waxing was very subpar also. I went to the counter to pay. Another lady asked how was the service. I told her the truth and was in tears. She replied,"oh, 32 dollars please!" Are you kidding me?!? I paid to have my skin damaged. I left saddened. I would never go back nor recommend this location. I will stick to the Berkeley location where they know what they are doing!!! read more

I came in this afternoon to see if I could get a brow wax. The girl told me she had someone coming in and penciled me in for 3:40-about an hour later. That was fine with me, since it was short notice. I've always had less than great service here but wanted to give it another try. I was excited for some clean eyebrows. I came back 5 min before my appointment and the girl was nowhere to be found. I waited 10 minutes and walked out. No one came up and asked if I needed anything, which is normal there. So rude and unprofessional to leave someone hanging after confirming an appointment an hour before! read more

If you want a pain-free, perfect brow wax, do it here. I am updating my review because I wrote the other one over a year ago and it's still a great experience here. The woman who did my brows this time was as good or even better than the last one, if that's possible. Also, the wax they continue to use is wonderful. It is different from the kind you get at most other places -- you know, the stuff that turns your skin purple-red and can irritate it for days. The wax at Benefit Brow Bar is formulated for very sensitive and/or mature skin, though it works great on all types/ The only thing it does, aside from shaping my brows like magic, is turn my skin slightly pink (from the heat) for a few minutes. Celeste is everything! Seriously, she has brought back my brows from a nail shop nightmare... And she always gets me right again, even after waiting too long between visits. It can be tough to get an appointment, and even more tough to try to talk to anyone at the brow bar if you need information or are trying to schedule an appointment. If you are able to get in, they do a great job, but sometimes it's such a pain to try to get in that i have to end up going somewhere else instead. I think that sort of customer service is overall for Ulta because I've had to circle the store multiple times trying to find someone to ask a question, and then get answers that clearly show they don't really know what they're talking about :( read more

Went here today for a brow wax and eyelash application after reading great reviews on Yelp. I love the Brow Bar at Macy's in SF, so I was excited there is one in Alameda. My eyebrows are now waaaay too thin that I have to fill them in with pencil. Perhaps they want to sell more of their brow filler products, because I certainly need it after going here. The eyelash application didn't even last the first hour I was home (and packing for a trip, so not doing anything crazy). Supposedly they last for a week to two weeks. No chance. I basically threw $45 out my window, wasted an hour, and ended up looking ridic. Pass. read more

A friend recommended this place and I got a threading eye brow service and for how much it cost it was not worth it at all. 24$ plus tip. More than waxing because it takes longer. The girl who did my eye brows hardly cleaned up my eyebrows...she was nice and made conversation but the end result was as if I had done my own eyebrows doing the minimal. They did not look "cleaned up" I've been threading my eyebrows for over 7 years I know when someone does a good job. Her name was Cheena. She is probably better at waxing. I used to go here exclusively for my brows and products. They should update their website because they no longer take walk ins for the Brow Bar. I walked into Ulta earlier and the young lady working the Brow Bar had no one in her chair and I asked if she was available. She stated her first appointment was Tuesday. Tuesday? Really? Pretty frustrating since she wasn't busy. A better response would have been, I'm waiting on an appointment. Every time I go it's a different chick. This was my last time. I may have to abandon Ulta all together and return to my previous waxer and Sephora. The convenience had me going, but considering the lines just to purchase products and the unhelpful staff, I'm over it. read more
