I am very shocked about the service I got at the salon. I get multiple blowouts in a month and this one tops the worst. I had a stylist named Jessica. I did let her know to pin curl after using a round brush. She stated she uses she Dyson so it doesn't strain her hand. I thought at first she was just drying my hair and then will go in with a round brush ( as normal blowouts). But no, she just dried my hair, did some curls with the Dyson and this was the result. My hair didn't last 24 hours. My normal blow outs I get last 4-5 days I advised I have an oily scalp and please do not Use products that would make it more oily. I am not sure what was used but my hair on top felt like I had a lot of product and dry shampoo wasn't cutting it . I had to rewash my hair the next day. Yesterday, I went to Ulta Beauty to buy a fragrance for my honey. I was all over the place because I'm a perfume girly, but I never know what smells good for men when I'm trying to pick a fragrance because they all smell the same. Until, I smell them on the guy but first spray in store is always super strong. I had, a really great Ulta sales associate help me yesterday from start to finish. She knew her fragrances. I went in for a blowout and I was really happy with the results. The stylist (Tatiyana) asked me about my hair and how I usually style it. When I told her I wasn't really good at styling my hair and need to learn how, she told me about an upcoming class they are doing at Ulta to teach you how to do your hair. She was very helpful and friendly. She noticed that I was eyeing the hair tinsel and asked me about it so we ended up adding some in. I've gotten so many compliments on it since then. I never felt more profiled and watched at an Ulta. I was testing makeup (a highlighter specifically) and one of the more younger girls working there was watching me and when I turned around and caught her looking, she tried to play it off all cute talking about the product. Immediately I knew I was being followed around the store by her. This makes people not want to come back. Just had a great customer service experience here. I've been using the same foundation for the past 20 years but as I've gotten older it just doesn't look good anymore. A really nice sales associate, I think her name was Eva? Ulta had gotten my email address wrong for over 3 years and apparently they started sending bar codes to their customers because Ulta doesn't trust us (Sephora has no issue not sending bar codes and still keeping inventory). I spent 20min on the phone with customer service for a 0.25fl oz bottle of oil. This store specifically, I'm assuming the manager, saw this as a drag and I never saw her again after that 20min call. She didn't even bother changing my email address (Keeping inventory isn't the only job description you have by the way). I wish she was captured on the video so management can address her inability to do what she was hired to do. I WON'T be returning to this location. This is an update to my ulta experience, not in regards to the hair salon but to the cashiers at this store. Specifically one person who I think could have helped me when I asked, but gave me an excuse that I don't agree with. A few weeks ago I was at this store shopping with my daughter, when we went to the line to pay. The line was extremely long but there were 5 cashiers, maybe more, so at least the line was moving. I decided to ask one of the cashiers if they could open the bathroom for me because I really had to go. She said "oh you're going to have to wait a bit because I'm the only one with the key" or something of that effect. I looked around and although agree the line was very long, there were SEVERAL makeup artists just standing there looking around because they were not at all busy. So I decided to then say "can't you have one of them take me to the bathroom? She then replied with "oh they are MAC makeup artists and don't work for Ulta". So I then said "do expect me to then wait until this entire long line disappears?" She didn't say anything and pretended she didn't hear me. I decided to walk to a nearby restaurant and use their restroom instead. I understand because they are next door to Oakland and many of their ratchet inhabitants have decided to shoplift constantly, the Ulta bathroom is locked along with all of their perfumes. You can thank the democrats for letting this be the norm, but to force a customer to go around looking for a restroom elsewhere is extremely bad customer service. She could have asked the MAC makeup artist to unlock the bathroom for me, and lock it up again given they weren't busy at all with customers just standing there "shooting the breeze". I spend a lot of money at their store and for them to not be accommodating to one of their clients in need (had to go really bad) is unacceptable. This is why I decide to knock down a star, not okay. read more

I usually walk into places like this expecting to be treated a certain way because of my appreance and was pleasantly surprised. The staff was amazing respectful and so helpful. I went to counter and requested help with matching foundation as i had some options but not happy. The lovely girl on the register was able to help me. Iggy, who claimed being a manager, was so utterly disrespectful and petty. She took my online receipt to the back "to review it with another manager". The receipt contained my personal contact information and who knows what happened in the back, I sure was not present to protect myself. Iggy then claimed she could not return my item because I had used the free sachet sample that came as a gift with purchase. A free sample, come on! I am a Diamond Member and get free samples with almost every purchase, that is one of the perks of being one. Also, if I use up my free item, I do not save the sample for 60 days in case I need to return the purchased item. I guess Iggy would have been content with me bringing her my trash since Ulta Alameda is imposing this nonsense on customers. By taking my receipt to the back, Iggy honestly made me feel like I was criminal; not to mention it was unethical. I asked Iggy, multiple times, to please read where in the return policy stated such statute, but Iggy kept giving me the run around, and never showed it to me. Instead, Iggy called another manager, Maria, and there I was, explaining to Maria the situation all over again, rather than Iggy just helping me out and stop giving customers a hard time. I relayed to Maria that if Ulta Alameda is enforcing the supposed policy, it should be visible for customers to view it. Maria's responded that their Store Manager would email over the policy, and that never happened either. It should be noted that later that evening, I did call the Ulta guest service line and a representative was apologetic about the event, stating such policy does not even exist. Not only was Iggy lying, she embarrassed me and made me feel like I did something dishonest. I cannot believe Ulta hires people like Iggy, who are supposed to be in leadership roles. So far I've seen two obnoxious and inappropriate, disrespectful, and inconsiderate people walk in and take their beef out on the manager. Today was especially difficult for me to swallow because this person threatened her. Why are some people so rude and disrespectful? This person hit merchandise on the floor while cussing at her out-loud. It would have been great to see that happen when the cops walk their beat as they sometimes frequent South Shore stores. I came to this location around 1pm. The restroom was so gross. The toilet paper was all off the dispensers and all on the floor! And there were no seat covers! And the soap was diluted to the point where there were no suds. And when I told the manager she just told me she wasn't responsible. Shame. Sorry for the long review, but it's necessary. It is very rare that I leave a bad review, but I'm honestly dissapointed in how my whole Ulta experience was today. Let me preface by saying that it is RARE if you get greeted when you walk in. Today I walked in and went to the registers to ask for assistance - I see 2 girls standing there chit chatting about one of their watches or something. I smiled and said "Hi how's it going" , waiting to begin an interaction with either one - (An alternative style girl and another i later saw was named Alegandra) - this took a lot longer than expected to get a reply- Alegandra looked at me rudely with a straight face, and didn't say anything to me at all. The Alt girl looked confused at first ,then finally replied and I then asked for help looking for a shade of foundation (i was not offered any assistance from the time I walked in). Alegandra started off by asking what price range I was looking to look at. I told her I already had something in mind, a Maybelline product, and then she promptly stopped interacting with me. The Alt girl paged someone over to assist and told me they didn't have testers available for the brand, so they wouldn't be able to actually shade match. I mention that's alright as I just needed a second set of eyes- and the 3rd girl walked me over and helped me out . I wish I would've gotten her name, she was kind and didn't make me feel weird compared to what I walked in to. I walk up to the registers and Alegandra rings me up, asks for #, sees my account and then gave me a quick smirk, yet that quickly ceased when I was handed my receipt. I've literally never felt so out of place, almost ostracized, as I did when I went here tonight. I don't even know why I was treated like this- I checked their hours to see if they were close to closing and maybe that is why they were acting weird (it was 1.5 hours till close) leaving the only thing I can assume is my outfit?? With that, just because someone is not presenting as the standard femme, does not mean they should be made to feel unwelcome. Regardless- 100% mean girl vibes from Alegandra. Seems like they need to do a refresher course here on CUSTOMER SERVICE so they can remember what sort of job they were hired for. read more

I have been going to this location for years now and have had decent experiences. I love being able to order for store pick-up within the app and this is a convenient location for me to visit. Unfortunately, I don't think I see myself going to this location anymore after my experience tonight. I came in to redeem my birthday gift reward tonight 1/10/23 around 6:30pm. I was helped by a cashier named Phavia and everything went okay until she snatched my phone out of my hand when I was simply showing her the online code I received in my email. Also, if you take a look at any email you receive from Ulta, they will always have a coupon at the bottom of the email. I don't want to include a screenshot since it includes my member #. I already zoomed in so she didn't have to grab my phone. I am also a sales associate, have worked in retail for a couple years, and I have ALWAYS asked before touching someone's phone/card/etc. I was thinking, "Okay, fine, I just want to get my gift and not make it a big deal" but it rubbed me the wrong way when she told me to open up the app. She wasn't even nice about it, and the barcode for her to scan was at the bottom of the email already. When I opened up the app and had the barcode RIGHT THERE for her, she still snatched my phone, started swiping away my notifications and scrolling everywhere? I said, "I can handle my phone next time" and she completely ignored me, continuing her side conversation with her coworker. She then repeated that I needed to open up the app and I had to tell her that was the app. I already had the barcodes pulled up for her in two different places, got disrespected by her when she didn't ask to grab my phone, had to watch her swipe through my phone aggressively and literally threw my phone on the counter. I was ready to just leave honestly but I'm glad I didn't and glad I got her name on the receipt. I do not want to go to this location anymore and have to deal with rudeness, being ignored, and someone snatching my phone not even know how their own store app or barcodes look like lol. I'd rather not deal with the stress and anxiety, I came in happy to redeem my gift and I left storming out of there and feeling like my night was ruined. You don't know what other people are going through and I tried to be nice to her and okay with her snatching my phone, but that really showed me how careless people can be about their own job, the company they represent, their customers, and that says a lot about a person's character. Tried to use curbside pickup. Checked in on the site when I was 20 minutes away and then checked in when I arrived. Sat in my car for 10 minutes and no one ever came. Went in the store and the associates are behind the counter laughing and joking. Went to the pickup counter and gave them my name, the woman says "oh she came in." I don't understand why they offer this service. This is not the first time that I've selected curbside and no one comes out. There's been a few times where it's said curbside is not available, and that's fine. I understand that they get busy or they're short staffed, but if you allow customers to select it as an option, people should be available to fulfill it. Aside from this, the customer service isn't great. Not looking for luxury service, but the staff is unhelpful in my experience. If I'm not mistaken, this store (at So Shore) was closed for awhile. I originally thought it was due to thefts but perhaps it was remodeling? It is quite large inside, reminds me of Macys. For the first time, I ordered online and chose store pickup. For some reason, companies just don't get that not everyone has or wants a smart phone. Since that's what was required to let them know one was on the way, one was there and the purchase serial #, bleah. I asked to speak to the manager to let her know the policy was not wise nor attractive to those of us without a smart phone. She came up within a few minutes. Her response was lukewarm but not rude. She went on to give me my purchase (I had to show an I.D., not a prob, and I had written down the purchase #). She then took me to the manufacturer's in-store display (I wanted to see how close the new version matched the old; not perfectly but within acceptable parameters). Finally, she suggested another brand with a similar product, which was professional and much appreciated. That was exceptional customer service.
