The bad: We arrived at 9:50, a group of four, for breakfast. We were told it was likely to be a 20 minute wait, if we'd like to grab a coffee in the hotel reception area they would call us when a table was available (Benedict's is inside the Max Brown hotel). Firstly, we want a coffee *with* our breakfast, not 20 minutes before. Secondly, the wait was more like 30 minutes. Ok, we could have had a coffee but had we known it would be that long, we would have gone somewhere else. When we were eventually seated, we were given time to check out the menus before our orders were taken. At some point you notice you've been here over an hour and breakfast is looking more like brunch - and you still haven't seen your food. The good: The staff are clearly busy, they're on the move constantly, rushing around trying to keep everybody happy. And they do it with a smile. When the food does eventually arrive it's great. Prices are very reasonable considering it's proximity to the Ku'damm. The waiting game is the only reason we would think twice about returning. When you have places to go and things to see on a city break vacation, you don't want to take two hours over breakfast. But, if you have the time and patience, Benedict's is great. read more

We were a group of four and arrived at 13:00. We were told I wait around 1 hour but we got a table at 15:00. During the period we were not treated with anything despite in the past I have been there and they gave me something. After sitting and receiving the menu we have to wait another 15 minutes to get the usual glass of water and bread and to take our order. The time of preparing the dishes was quiet okay (around 15min) except that they brought one of the dishes wrong. Which lead to another 15 min more. So to have the whole idea, arrived at 13:00 but start eating at 15:45. Lastly, it's quite difficult to caught the attention of the waitress. In the positive side, the dishes are very good and abundant. And the bread of the their bakery is great. read more

A beautiful restaurant. Terrific concept. Great menu. We walked in and were seated in a great booth. They were not busy, but servers couldn't find time to get to us. Then got the order wrong. Once you got a table there will be a long wait to order and an even longer time to get the food. Don't even consider asking for anything once the food arrived. I love this place because I need access to breakfast 24 hours a day! It is a chain from Tel Aviv, Israel but I think there are less than 5 locations worldwide. They serve the bacon crispy if you ask. Great selection of egg dishes and a lovely cocktail menu. The ambience is hip, busy, great trendy music- I often come and work on my laptop here. To be 24 hours in Berlin you have to be attached to a hotel, so you can meet some interesting travelers at the bar during happy hour. The pancake short stack was amazing and just enough (with side of crispy bacon) because the hot cakes are thick. The Spanish tortilla is good with sauce and is a large portion. FLUFFY PANCAKES! Need I say more? We had to wait a little bit even with reservations, but they have a little lounge area where you can buy a cup of coffee or some pastries while you wait. The decor is nicely done and clean. We were seated in a circular booth which provided a cozy atmosphere, perfect for brunching with your close friends. The restaurant was really busy so the service was a little slow. We all ordered our own meals which was delicious but what made it even more special and make me write this review is their fluffy blueberry pancakes! It isn't overly sweet and very light. Perfect for enjoying with friends or by yourself. Next time I'll probably order this for myself though... a few bites is definitely not enough! read more

I had to try this place - breakfast all day - my favorite! I went here on a Tuesday morning and it was pretty crowded. I didn't have reservations, but I was able to be seated at the bar. I ordered the Eggs Benedict with creamed spinach, this included a bread basket and beverage. I had tea, and it was so nice because they give you a little tea pot. As for food, I really wanted to love the eggs Benedict, but having lived in Miami and New York (big brunch Benedict scene) I must say I was a bit disappointed (hence the three stars). While it was tasty, and cooked fine, there were some issues. First, the eggs came on white toasted bread, which together with the eggs, hollandaise sauce and creamed spinach made it all quite soggy. So that was a bit disappointing. Second, I feel like they should just have regular fresh spinach instead of the creamed version. While the creamed spinach was delicious (when tasting it on its own) eating it with a poached egg AND hollandaise was way way too much. It was difficult to differentiate the flavors. Having said that, I did enjoy the breakfast (overall), the food quality was good, staff were friendly, and it was a nice atmosphere. I would just suggest that they reconsider there bread choice on the Benedict as well as offer a simple vegetarian Benedict. read more

I've been moaning about the fact that there are no decent places to get good breakfast in my neighborhood pretty much since I moved here. The breakfast gods obviously heard me and they brought me Benedict. It wasn't just the excellent, perfectly made food that sealed the deal, it was also the following: a) New York Times and NYT Magazine to read while waiting and sipping coffee. b) Friendly service that immediately brought us tap water WITHOUT our having to ask, and bothered to come back throughout the meal and ask us how things were (I always found it rather pointless how traditionally German servers do their "hat's geschmeckt?" at the end - if you hated it there's nothing they can do, if you loved it they will see your plate is clear). c) A well designed and comfortable environment d) Open communication, so that when I ordered the banana pancakes, the server informed me they would take 20 mins and I was able to order a chopped Israeli salad first (what can I say, I like my sweet with some savory). When the banana pancakes came, in a little pool of condensed milk with toasted coconut on top, as fluffy and perfect and freshly made as can be, I told my husband, "these were worth the wait." "The 20-minute wait?" He asked. "No, the 8.5 years I waited for a breakfast place this good to come along." One caveat: We went on a Tuesday afternoon. We can do this as we are freelancers who live ten minutes away. Based on other reviews it seems like you should factor in a LOT more time on weekends. The food here is amazing. I had the tower of babylon and the flavors on that thing run deep. All the dishes are quite unique and the ambiance is lovely. The wait time can get pretty rough so be weary. Also as an American I understand good service in Germany isn't the norm and Im a very patient and understanding person but I do feel that this place had the worst service by far. My table's order came out about an hour later and only I received my food first my friend had to wait another 10 mins, the waiter forgot our drinks, table bread, cutlery and even the check lagged. I've been here four times now and every time the service is disappointing. I am coeliac and therefore cannot have wheat. The first time I came and asked what would be suitable for me the waitress looked at me as though I was stupid for coming (despite it being my birthday dinner, which they knew about). Again today I checked with the waitress to see if my choice would be suitable and was told down right that it wasn't as it has potatoes in the dish. A little bit of basic knowledge of some common dietary requirements would be great as well as some courtesy towards the guests would help improve my rating. The food is generally very good (would be nice if they could serve a real flat white instead of a latte) and the decor is fantastic. We get there and put our name on the list-- ten to fifteen minutes. 40 minutes later they say it'll be another 20, so we left. Today Monday I returned early in the morning. It was empty. But I finally get the hype. The food is quite good, portions are generous and not too expensive. The service was formidable and the atmosphere is fantastic -- imagine a european hipster lounge vibe.
