Artichoke Fondue
Min Z.

Love the casual intimate ambiance under tree where you can relax with a drink or catch with some friends. Parking is tight as there are only a handful of spaces behind the restaurant, so may need to find street parking nearby. The happy hour has a good variety of food options and make sure to ask for seasonal specials as the drinks get rotated. For now, they have a dill pickle beer which is a nice balance between the two flavors and would be perfect for pickle lovers! The artichoke fondue was recommended as a popular dish - the warm pretzel was very enjoyable but the fondue was a little too runny and hard to get onto the pretzel. Next was the elote arancini - it's a heavier appetizer but it's packed with flavors and the pickled red onion is refreshing. The staff is all so friendly in giving recommendations and consistently checks in on the experience. They're also very personable and seem to connect with many returning customers

Food: I had a great expectation on the food and it somehow fell short on my expectation. We came here for a weekend brunch so all these food are brunch only food. The brunch menu wasn't impressive in my opinion. We ended up ordering some fries (love it!), a toast (too sweet and heavy for our palate), Kimchi fried rice (not bad but not recommended), and a Smoked salmon on toasted bread (highly recommended), and a nice cocktail (can't remember name). Service: Prompt but also hard to flag as we sat outside and she had to travel between other areas and ours. We had to wait a while just to order food. Ambiance: Noisy as it's outside and can be really hot in the summer. Parking: This is where the experience really got a low rating for me as I had to circle the block 4 times to find parking. At the end we were told by the staff that we could just park in the large parking lot nearby and walked over. However, there was a sign in the middle of the parking lot stating that it was reserved for an event that day and people cannot park there without paying some kind of fee. Ridiculous! Keep in mind if you want to come here during the weekend, be prepared to walk for a long while unless you get lucky and find a spot nearby.

Best service. Great vibes. And one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. We stopped at Benchmark to start burger week off. Little did we know that it didn't start till 4pm. Oops! However, I still decided to order the burger they had on the menu. The only reason I was going to try it and not save my burger week pick for a different restaurant was because our waiter Joseph, sold it to us so well! And I'm so happy I believed him. It's definitely a mistake try if you love burgers and juicy tasty ones too. We also ordered their açaí bowl and that was prepped so well and all the flavors from the fruit and cinnamon and honey went all well together. Definitely something to have on a warm day. Joseph tried selling us on their fondue but we felt it was way too much food so we opted out but vowed to try it next time. He was so kind though and let us sample a small amount. Amazing! You have to get the fondue!!! The place is only outdoor seating but it's all shaded and fresh. Parking is located past Benchmark and right after a Coffee shop made out of bricks. The parking is validated as well.

Celebrated a friend's 40th birthday here for dinner. A cute little place with a cute vibe. We had a group of 5 and got to sit on a corner of the outside patio. Our waitress was friendly and sweet. We ordered salads, burger, pasta, fries, and a couple drinks. Overall it was a great place to eat and hang. The only downside was when our checks got switched with another table and it took them a long time to resolve it. Other than that, everything was great!

Ate dinner there. Food was very good with unique flavor pairings. Started with the truffle arancini which are balls of risotto deep fried. They were probably the least favorite thing we had. The center was a bit gooey but the accompanying sauce was excellent. We had the cabbage which was very good - a-little on the spicy side but that was good for us The salmon had a miso marinade which was delicious- very flavorful and moist. Finally ended with the butter cake which was fantastic . Reminded us of the old Bacardi rum cake recipe. Waiter was very good and attentive despite the fact i think he was the only waiter working ONE NOTE : they don't have a full liquor license but they have sake was infused with the spirit you wanted. So i had an old fashioned and surprisingly it tasted like an old fashioned after the ice had melted a little in the glass. The acohol content was only 24% so if you wanted a stiff drink you were out of luck but the prices for the drinks seemed reasonable

Came here before for brunch and thought was pretty standard. Came again for dinner. Even on a Sunday, place was packed. Friends and I did family style. Got to try so many dishes. They were all delicious. My favorite was the Thai seafood curry- full of generous amount of seafood. Buttercake was yummy. Reminds me of mastros. Lavender haze cocktail was whatevers, really low amount of alcohol added.

Such a cute little restaurant in the heart of dt Santa Ana. Luckily the weather was in our favor today during lunch time and it was so nice to sit outside. Tables were under a canopy and there was a nice breeze. Service was good, not super crowded and no wait! Win win! Most importantly, the food was really good! The French toast looked like it was going to be sweet but it was perfect! Not overly saturated with the dulce le leche or the syrup. Highly recommend! My daughter liked the chicken sandwich, had a little Asian twist with the pickled carrots. The artichoke dip was good but it tasted more like a soup but the pretzel sticks were soft. The chicken zinga was good too but it was basically the inside of an enchilada in a cast iron dish. All in all, great experience and food. Def would go again and would recommend!

We came for lunch and the environment is nice outside, we were seated outdoors. I remember the sun could be an issue, a lot of the areas aren't shaded. It seems like this spot is super popular for brunch drinks. Had the birria taco and this one was probably my favorite of the dishes tha we ordered. There is a crispy shell, two different sauces, and condiments to add with it. There is a lot of different textures and the meat was juicy. The smoked salmon flatbread wasn't as good, it looks very colorful and pretty, but I didnt think the flavors went together very well. I like the smokiness but the salmon wasn't umami enough to justify mixing in caviar and avocado and arugula that would normally pair well with beef. Finally, had the chicken tinga skillet, which had flavor in the sauce, but the chicken itself was just ok.

This place is one of the cutest spots in Santa Ana!! It is fully outdoors and has such a cute vibe. Their food and drinks were also super tasty. We only tried some appetizers but Thoroughly enjoyed the experience here. The server and bartender were both very welcoming and friendly! Definitely going back for a full meal experience!!

We LOVED this restaurant for brunch. Here's a few notes: - Parking was pretty difficult, they have a small lot behind the restaurant but you'll have to park on the street otherwise - The entire restaurant is primarily outdoors/patio vibes. I loved it though and it's pretty covered so even if you do go for brunch the entire patio is shady which prevents the sun from burning you - the staff and our waitress were so nice and patient. they'll take the time to go over the menu with you even during a busy brunch rush - food was SO GOOD. I ate the furai chicken and thankfully they refill the chips once you run out I'm pretty sure this place is dog friendly, BUT i didn't bring my doggo this time around.

The drinks, fries, and rigatoni were so good! I'll be coming back for sure . Also the waiters and the service was top notch !!

MVP Mitchell taking care of our group! A glimpse into the banquet room as well.

I can't speak highly enough of our experience here. We had a group of 30 rent out their separated banquet room for a graduation lunch. The processes of selecting a fixed menu, decor and setup were seamless. We were able to visit ahead of time and were walked through all of our options. Day of, our guests had a great time and raved about the food! (Burgers, tacos, salads, fries) - you can't go wrong with any of the options! A VERY special shoutout to MITCHELL, who was our go-to staff member during our lunch. He took care of all of us and was practically part of the family by the end of the meal! To this day, people in the group talk about Mitchell. Rockstar - give that man a raise or promotion or something!

We had difficulty with the validation for parking. Their website doesn't mention that you should not pay for parking before you give the server your license plate number. It just says to give the server your license plate number. The parking lot also states that you have to pay for parking when you first park. We didn't want a ticket or to get our car towed so we paid. No reimbursement for us. We ordered the miso salmon, burger, arancini, and pear tart. The plating of the food was pretty. The salmon itself was good but the sweet potato purée was so gingery. My fiancé has a mild allergy to ginger and ginger was not mentioned in the ingredients even though the whole purée only tasted of ginger and not sweet potato. Maybe we should have told them about the allergy and shouldn't have assumed that it would be a ginger puree instead of sweet potato. The burger was extra well done with a lot of burnt char and tasted super burnt. The arancini and the pear tart were tasty and light, but the server didn't bring us a knife to cut the tart. It was a struggle cutting the tart with a spoon. The best food of the night was those parmesan fries. It had great crunch, texture, and flavor especially with the garlic aioli. It was kinda difficult getting a server's attention because they seemed to be crowding and talking to each other near the bar. The place had a lot of flies, which I guess can be expected for an outdoor restaurant. We felt like we were swatting at flies more than eating the food. Overall, the place had cute lights, decoration, and nature aspect. Very unsure if we will come back.

Sorry for bothering you guys just curious if u guys took cash still?

Yes we do!

Is the main menu available during brunch hours?

No you can only order from the brunch menu

How much is corkage?

$25

Do the do bottomless mimosas?

We are currently not offering bottomless mimosas, but we do sell champagne by the bottle.

Does this place have mocktails and are HH hours still 4-6 on Fridays? Thanks!

HI Nikole, we can always make you a mocktail version of our regular drinks. And yes, we are still serving happy hour every Wed-Fri from 4-6pm! We hope to see you soon!

How is parking?

Plenty of parking in a lot about a block away. The restaurant validates. Take a photo of your license plate, then give to wait staff.

Are you dog-friendly?

Benchmark has a corner area, that's pretty casual high top seating, if you decide to bring your pet. But it not a table. More like a bar top.

Do they have a baby changing table in the men's restroom so I can bring my toddler?

No baby changing tables

Do they have heaters on the patio?

Yes. There are multiple heaters throughout the two patios.

Is there a corkage fee?

$25

Do they have round tables that can seat party of 10?

I have never seen any round tables at Benchmark. Call them... they have a separate small building where they do private events. Maybe they can setup something for you in this additional space.

Is there Happy Hour?

I don't think so, I don't recall seeing it on their menu.

Are kids allowed? Do you have to pay extra for a private table for 12?

If it's in a separate room I think you do!

How do i add myself on the waitlist for a table?

Call their number

Is the private dining room an extra charge?

Yes

Outside desserts are allow? (Birthday cake)

Yes they are, but there is a $2 fee per person

Are staff wearing masks?

I believe so Bench is just down the street...so I'll double up after dog walk

I know with Covid some things have changed... Do they still offer bottomless mimosos on Saturdays and Sundays?

It's 4 glasses not bottomless and I believe it lasts until 3. But the glasses are large!!

Do they have bottomless mimosas on Sunday?

They did when I was there a few months ago.

Can I reserve the inside for a private baptism 20 guests on 5/16?

They do have a covered area separate from main area, when I was there, a party was going on. Benchmark is an outdoor restaurant, not much, if any, indoor seating (not due to Covid)

It's a tiny restaurant, we didn't have reservations but thankfully got sat bc we arrived at 5pm. Service was impeccable. Someone in my party had gluten allergy and the server made suggestions to which dishes to get and which were easily made gluten free. - Squash salad: impressed. This was a new novel dish and I loved it. It had finely shaved zucchini like super thin flat noodles. There was shaved Parmesan cheese, hazelnuts, and the dressing was light and barely dressed. - Mushrooms: the onsen egg was perfectly runny and the mushrooms so savory. - Gambas: plump shrimp with yummy flavors. - Rack of pork: our fav! We asked what was in the sauce it was so delectable. We predicted fish sauce and maybe orange. The server went back and confirmed it was fish sauce! The chef has Vietnamese origins. This was so good, we cleaned the bone and licked the plate. - Cheesecake: only enjoyed by the gluten eaters. It was well made. I'm not a dessert eater typically but I found this wonderful. Not too sweet and decadent.

The Santa Maria BBQ Salad looked good but I asked her if they could substitute the chicken with the Chimichurri steak and she said "sure!" And surprisingly they did not charge extra! I love restaurants that are flexible like this. My salad bowl was SO good and filling. Lots of good stuff in it: chopped salad mix, coleslaw mix, Applewood-smoked bacon, crumbled goat cheese, corn & black bean salsa, grape tomatoes. Served with chipotle ranch dressing and blackberry BBQ sauce on the side, and a fresh baked focaccia bread. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the cold meat. I was under the impression that the meat was going to be hot. My BF got the Southwestern Sandwich. It was delicious. All the Southwestern flavors were there but not overwhelming. The sandwich was hot and juicy. For a restaurant that makes everything from scratch, their prices are very affordable. Both our meals were only $27 total. Friendly service, great food and good prices - what not to love?

The meat was very simply prepared and had almost no flavor. At that price, I expected much more from the dish. I'm giving three stars because the service was very good, and I have no complaints about the staff. Unfortunately, the food and value just didn't meet my expectations.

The food was good at this restaurant however the service was really disappointing. We were waiting…read morefor a table via open table and when we were informed we were next we saw about 8 couples sit before us and it took another 45 minutes (on top of the hour we already spent) Trying to figure out this issue we spoke to the hostesses who were passive aggressive and borderline rude They were not interested in helping us or giving straight answers. We were sat next to the bar eventually where the bartender ended up taking care of us for the night. She was amazing and apologized for the hostesses. She said it was beyond normal. I do not plan on coming back after this experience.

Exceptional service from Adrian!…read more We had an amazing night at Culinary Dropout, thanks largely to Adrian behind the bar. We weren't sure what to order, so we put ourselves in his hands, and every recommendation was spot on. He started us off with the Sloppy Joe appetizer, which was a fun, delicious surprise. The Mongolian short rib plate was tender and full of flavor, easily one of the best entrées we've had in a while. He finished us off with the mud pie, the perfect way to end the meal. You can tell Adrian knows the menu and actually cares that his guests have a great experience. He was friendly and attentive, and he made the whole night feel effortless. If you go, sit at the bar and ask for Adrian. We'll definitely be back!
