This place has been around since 2000 and very popular in this largely Kosher neighborhood. The pizza is New York style big slices and thin dough with savory pizza sauce. They are known for their unorthodox cheese options like cheddar, Munster, mozzarella, feta to name a few. It is a small place that is more popular for carry-out over eat-in. The service is neither good nor bad. They offer both Vegan and Vegetarian pizzas and everything is Kosher. The prices can be high IMO $25 for a plain XL and with just 3 toppings it was $32 plus $10 for 6 mozzarella sticks. Along with 2 drinks came to approximately $56. Which is why I come here one or twice a year. The downsides are mainly the wait time 30-60 minutes minimum. This visit the mozzarella sticks were overly breaded and cooked too long, which is largely why they lost a star. The plates are very cheap paper, so in-dining is not recommended. read more

Food was 100/100 and I couldn't have been happier to eat tonight from Ben Yehuda Pizza. This is a shop located in the Kemp Mill neighborhood. It has plenty of parking and they serve kosher vegetarian and vegan food. All pizza cheese can be substituted with vegan cheese. I just wish they also offered gluten free options but I can't complain much given how delicious their food was. I had a bad day at work but their cheesy gooey delicious pizza and cheese sticks totally made my day. I'm looking forward to returning in the future to try their other menu items. read more

I drove 45 minutes, on purpose , to have a slice of pizza at this restaurant. I placed my order, gave my name, and was told that the pizza would take just a little bit because the last two slices in the hotbox had already been sold. I sat. Then I waited for the next 25 minutes while other people's orders came out and were delivered to them at their tables. Four families came in after me, and were served within 5 minutes of arrival. One couple had the exact same order as I did. A grandmother came in and was served a slice of pizza and a slushy immediately and then when her grandson finished, she went back up for a second slice of pizza and a second slushy. While I sat and waited. I had to walk up to the counter and request my food. Never. Again. Let me start by saying that I do not keep kosher. But I heard that the pizza from Ben Yehuda was so great that I decided to try it yesterday. I was not disappointed. I ordered a 9" half supreme/half Greek pizza. The supreme has green peppers, mushrooms, veg sausage and pepperoni. The Greek half had kalamata olives, sun dried tomatoes, spinach and feta cheese. Crust was crisp and tomato sauce rich and appropriately sweet. Cheese is high quality and toppings generously apportioned. If you do not finish the whole pizza, it reheats wonderfully in the toaster oven. read more

Been eating here since I was 9, still my favorite pizza place. The pizza recipe is phenomenal, and always ready very quick. They open an hour after shabbos which is great. Ben Yehuda Cafe & Pizzeria is a Kosher pizzeria located off of Lamberton. They also have subs, salads, soups, fries, sides (such as baked potatoes, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, etc.), and desserts. I tried their Lunch Special, which comes with a two slices of pizza and a fountain drink. Instead of getting both slices of cheese, I got one cheese and one of their 'specialty' slices, a veggie. The cheese slice was pretty delicious - thin, super cheesy, and the tomato sauce was the perfect amount of sweetness. The veggie one was forgettable, as it didn't really have much flavor, considering it had a generous amount of veggie toppings. Even though it was a lunch special, the price was a little steep ($8 for the combo, $9 with tip). I'd probably just stick with their cheese pizzas the next time! We were hosting a craft day with our teen/tween neighbors this summer. We were doing a social distancing event outdoors, with masks, etc., and needed an easy lunch. Ben Yehuda is so close to us. I've seen some of the negative reviews and understand. It's now on I think the third owner so maybe things change. But with 5 teen/tweens and 3 adults, plus a working from home neighbor to surprise with a slice, Ben Yehuda was the perfect choice. Some of the teens weren't Ben Yehuda fans so I didn't tell them where the pizza was from. But they all loved it. Minus half a point because the "Greek" salad was missing the Romaine lettuce and instead replaced with ice berg. The substitute was a little soggy. But as our Washington Post reviewer says, give restaurants a break as we try to all adjust. For all we fed that afternoon, and with lunch the next day I did not think the cost was bad at all. read more

If you're looking for a tasty slice of pizza with a side of fries...come here! The crust is thin yet thick enough to support toppings. The cheese is INCREDIBLE and the tangy fries are extra crisp. Just remember that this isn't a fancy pizzeria and you'll be fine. If you're on a health kick they have tasty salads to choose from. Nothing fancy, but the ingredients are very fresh and portion sizes are generous. Side Note: The falafel isn't all that great. Yes, I know it's a Jewish place but it really could've used something extra. I'm used to Amsterdam falafel and their array of toppings. This also seems to be a popular spot for small children. For full disclosure, I know one of the owners of Ben Yehuda Cafe & Pizzeria. The owners are good, decent, honest people doing what they can to make a living by serving an under served pizza eating population -the Kosher Pizza Eaters of Montgomery County Maryland. The above said, my review is honest. No matter the reason, if I don't write fair and unbiased reviews, my impact and value as a trusted review is nil. My commitment to myself is to be honest with all my reviews. As always, my review is based on my experience (Wednesday April 13, 2017 at around 7:15 PM) and based on the what I had to eat (two slices of cheese pizza). I want to break this review into several categories: Location Environment Cleanliness Staff Menu Food To fully understand how I landed on my rating I think it's only fair (since I know one of the owners) that I fully disclose how I reached my overall rating. Location - the location is outstanding for a Kosher Pizzeria. The Jewish population in the area is large, the need obvious. They did a wonderful job of finding a location in an area of need. The shopping center that Ben Yehuda is in has other shops that serve the community, yet also offers a lovely park area and is welcoming to everyone passing by regardless of faith. Environment - I didn't know what to expect. The sign has one look and feel while the actual establishment has an old NY pizzeria feel; I'd guess about 14 tables, each with 4 - 8 chairs (I think that is about right, I didn't count). Like old style pizzerias the menu is over the counter. You order at the counter, sit and wait while the pizza (and other items) are made fresh. They do offer single slice servings that are kept warm in a pizza warmer, not unlike what you would see any place that sells single slices. When I was there they had only cheese pizza slices at the ready. All in all I liked the look and feel, very understated, minimal decorations (I don't recall any), red and white colors. Simple, tasteful. Cleanliness - I am a clean freak, Dirty places or places look dirty or feel dirty or give off an air of "not clean enough" drives me nuts. It's my belief that if you serve people, serve food, you have an obligation to keep every table, every chair, every counter spic and span. There is NO EXCUSE EVER for not keeping your place clean (napkin holders full, chairs pushed in, table tops and counter tops clean, floors swept.) As important, bathrooms MUST Be spot less. People are dirty and hygiene seems to optional for too many. I don't want to touch other people's goo, ever. (Being a single dad, I really hated cold and flu season, runny noses ... EWWW.) The eating area was clean, enough, not to give me the Willies. The bathroom, well, I had issues. Simple things - co-ed bathrooms, great concept but that also means locks that have to be touched, doors handles that have to be touched and, with no urinals, the opportunity for misses and messes is just WAY to high. As the bathrooms are one seaters, there is no getting around the fact the bathrooms are just not going to feel clean. I would have avoided going, but you do what you gotta do where you gotta do it when you gotta do it. They need to get auto facets, auto toilets, push doors and hand towels (air dyers don't work), seat liners would also be of value. They should also consider a different trash can as I don't feel the one used in the bathroom I was in is practical (very big, poor location). Would I nix going here because of the bathroom? No, but I would bring my own hand sanitizer and perhaps a few paper towel (or at least grab a few napkins from the table) Staff - As many of you that have read other reviews, I have an extensive background in customer service and hospitality. (My company, Verho Communications, gave out it's first service award for outstanding service in 2017). I am all about service. The young woman at the counter was very friendly, nice smile, positive greeting. The listening skills were a bit lacking, but in the end, it was a very pleasant interaction. Menu - they have a large menu that includes items of the non-pizza variety. I didn't spend a lot of time looking at it, but as long as you are not searching for meat (meatballs are made of soy) I think you will find an item or 5 that you will enjoy. Prices - Gotta say that I do know that Kosher is going to add a bit of a cost. I don't know how much, but I am assuming at least 2%. Also, since they are a rare pizzeria with a defined customer base (Although VERY WELCOMING TO ALL) they do have the opportunity to increase their prices, perhaps another 3-5%. I though the prices for their pizza (personal on up) seemed fair. $7 for two slices of cheese pizza was a bit much; when I can get whole pizzas at 7-11 and Little Ceasars for $5, comparison does them no favors. Is $7 out of line? No, just pushing the high end of a slice of pizza. Food - (running out of space) the food was fine, perhaps not fresh as I had pre made. read more

I brought that up and that the website had said 30 min and the woman I spoke with said that just happens sometimes. When I want pizza delivered, there are so many options that are timely. Delicious pizza and very fairly priced. Pizza has the perfect crust:cheese ratio and my four year old now asks for "Ben and Huda" pizza all the time. We placed two large orders (10+ pizzas each) and Zach was so helpful and responsive during the ordering process. Very easy process and our campers LOVED the pizzas, as do we. I liked their cheese a lot actually. I am not Jewish and so not being able to get pepperoni on my pizza is always a shame. Although I can get beef pepperoni at Halal places... My calzone was good but they really skimped on the meatballs!!! Like another reviewer I was annoyed that my tiny cup of marinara sauce was cold cold cold!!! But the real "magic" began when we got to the restaurant... Checks the fridge and says, "Sorry, we're out of Tuna Wraps" Give me another swimming pool... So, my friend who ordered the tuna wrap grabs a slice of pizza from their rotating oven box thing (as we don't have time for them to put something else together) and we go back to his place. Thinking to myself, there could be a saving grace to this awful experience. Maybe the food is like REALLY good, like fresh, and hot, and spectacular. The stromboli was made of thin gummy dough, full of a blend of flavorless cheese, and the meatballs that were crushed inside were dry shavings of what almost appeared to be fake meat product. Dry meat accompanied by flavorless spinach in a dough pocket of little depth was an orchestra of a hundred tubas; bland. Mozzarella sticks, though seemingly made in house, were a gritty flavorless somewhat burnt texture. Some had leaked a fair amount of cheese out to somewhere not here. And my friend, who was sad faced by the tuna sandwich debacle, let me try a bit of his piece which I felt was mediocre at best. Needless to say, I won't be back. I don't keep Kosher, and it's a shame that since this restaurant, that seems to have cornered the market in the area, is doing such a poor job in both customer service and execution of product. read more

Last night I stopped in to get a slice on my way home......7:50 PM to be exact. I walked in and there about 25 guys sitting around listening to a speaker. I asked the young lady behind the counter for a slice.......She said "we don't have any.....we close at 8" It wasn't 8:00 as yet. Imagine going into a legitimate food establishment, say Nut House Pizza (which I haven't been at in 17 years) , I doubt that would have been their reply. My Buddies have always told me Nut House had much better pizza than Ben Yehuda.........I liked Ben Yehuda better, until last night! I'm in retail and understand providing exemplary service, which is something I continuously do my best to provide...................however Ben Yehuda's management is unaware of just how to do this. I'm sorry Ben's...I really am! I hate to do this to you, but you messed up one too many times now. We are pretty frequent visitors to this place, since it's close and a cheap dinner. Recently though, the service has just been terrible. We called a placed a carryout order about 2 weeks ago and were told the normal 20 minute wait. My hubby waited the 20 minutes and jotted down the street (mind you, it's about a 2 minute car ride from our house to the shopping center). It took him an additional 45 minutes to come home! He said that the place was complete chaos and that no one knew what they were doing and couldn't get ahold of a manager. Fast forward to this week, we ordered again, our usual order. The medium pizza now seems to be cut into 6 slices instead of the usual 8. The cheese on the cheese fries is ridiculously skimpy AND they messed up my french onion soup. How does one mess up soup you ask? Well, when I placed the order on the phone I asked for french onion soup with cheese and croutons. The guy even confirmed what I said. My husband picks up the order and notices that there is a soup cup, but no cup for cheese and croutons in the bag, so they "fix" this. I open up the soup at home and discover it's vegetable soup with cheese and croutons!! Who in the world eats vegetable soup with cheese and croutons? Eww! I'm not sure where the lack of communication is with this place, but they need to get their act together! We are giving them some time off and will take our pizza cravings elsewhere for now. So, this is my third visit to this place and I've tried so hard to like it. But... This place lacks in every way. They are completely coasting on the sheer lack of kosher food options and in no way care about the consumer. Today was the worst of the experiences. They don't offer single serve pizza outside of their cheese or pre made pizzas. We buy a 9 dollar small pizza to split for 2 and it's so incredibly small, it's better to just get individual slices. I saw a man pull a pizza box out of the trash then bring it back to the kitchen! No doubt to reuse. We buy 2 drinks at almost 4 dollars and the soda machine produced no ice and flat soda. The first time I ordered, I didn't realize it was a vegetarian place and ordered the "meatballs" on the pizza (along with the wheat dough for a little extra)... realized that it was a "veggie meatball" but it was yummy! fresh pizza without a lot of grease... This is a great place! They are very welcoming especially to small kids, I love going there at least once a week sometimes even more. They have now a new pizza available "Sicilian" that is very thick and yummy! You need to be sure to order an hour in advance (because it takes a long time to make it rise). The service is always with a smile and relatively fast. The place seems to be clean but sometimes the bathrooms are kids of messy. Over all, I love taking my girls there! read more
