As someone who was born and raised in Vietnam, I have to say that Ben Thành Restaurant really got some authentic Vietnamese cuisine. Their stone pot pho tasted almost exactly like the one I had in Ho Chi Minh City. I was so blown away that it pained me that I was just visiting. I have had many Pho across the US and this place really takes the cake. The snail dishes I had however weren't that good but mostly because of the snails' quality. I'm glad to find another pho spot to keep in our rotation. This place is nothing fancy on the inside or outside but most importantly, they had great broth (especially the beef broth). Everything was fresh and tasty. I'd definitely recommend getting the sliced rare beef pho. My husband's shrimp upon noodle soup was ok, but not something he'd get again. We also had the shrimp and pork fresh rolls (summer rolls) and the chili vegetable and Chinese sausage rolls. I saw a reel on Instagram about Ben Thanh Restaurant and convinced my family to check it out. Overall, the food was okay but the service was the worst part of our experience there. Our server constantly forgot our food or just would not come around to our table. We had no eating utensils in the caddy (no chopsticks, spoons, or napkins). I never got my drink. Inside the restaurant is very hot and not much circulation, so I really wanted my drink. I ordered the steamed clams, Thai style. The clams were very small and had no flavor. I dipped them in nuoc mum for taste just so I could finish the pot. For my entree, I ordered the noodle bowl with grilled pork and shrimp. My son and I split the food. It was pretty standard and a good size portion. Nothing exceptional to note, since I could get this dish at any other Vietnamese restaurant but also get it with better service. You go up to the cashier to pay. Something our server failed to say anything about until we had to go up to the kitchen to even ask how to pay our bill. And of course, our bill was incorrect. Three stars because I feel bad giving it less since it's a locally owned restaurant. I will not be back here and would not recommend to anyone, unless you're right there in the area. read more

Bun rieu! A hidden little gem in an industrial area. I was a bit confused when I was trying to find the place. I got seated right away, and he took my order. Bun rieu was goood! I like how they made their rieu. It was not too strong and the fermented fish paste mix they put some burning chilis in, was perfect. I love dipping the meat and tofu in it! I went to Ben Thanh with a friend for dinner, it was in the middle, it's winter, we both wanted soup, it was exactly what we were looking for. The woman serving was very nice. I was about 15 minutes earlier than my friend, and she happily brought the menus and checked on me once until my friend got there, not bothering me. She brought me jasmine tea that was blistering hot and delicious. The place it clean, and well kept. First we ordered the Rocket Shrimp, they were really good, crispy, the shrimp were on the verge of overcooked, but also, it's kinda the nature of that particular beast. The sauce that they came with was ourstanding. Then I order bun bo hue. I was going to get the bun reiu, but she talked me out of it because she said it's really fishy. It was really good soup, the broth was good, and seasoned well. The veggies were all good and fresh. My friend ordered the big bowl of pho, and said it was good as well. On the way out, I ordered a pho to go and a banh mi. The sandwich was also pretty good, had a good pickled veggie mix on it, and the meat was good. We stopped by to try thai hot pot ($40) because previously we tried bo nhung giam ($20) and it was really good. But what we received was not really thai hot pot. More like seafood pot? It doesn't have the tom yum flavor... no sour flavor? No spicy flavor?? the mussels were also very old and had a weird taste, we didn't eat any of it. We had to ask for like 3 limes to squeeze it in the pot because it was too sweet. The veggies were broccoli and carrots? I understand we came in at 8pm but if you don't have the right ingredients for thai hot pot please let us know so we can choose a different dish, but instead you just give us whatever you had left for veggies which is quite unacceptable to us. We left feeling very disappointed because the first time we had pho in stone bowl and bo nhung giam it was quite decent. I don't think I can return to give it another try. This place sits right in the middle of a strip and if you're not familiar with the area can be a little hard to find. Upon entering, it is a small restaurant and the sweet old lady welcomed us and I think she thought we were Vietnamese because she started speaking to us in Vietnamese. She showed us where the high chairs were and took our drink and food order all at once. The food did come out in a timely fashion with the stone soup pho coming out last still boiling. Fresh coconut juice: so good! Not too sweet and not too sour! It was perfect! Banh mi: 3/5, it was good but not that great. Chicken wings: 5/5, delish! Came out hot! Stone soup pho: 3/5, flavors weren't all there but it wasn't too bad. Fresh noodles were okay. Overall, the experience and food wasn't too bad but not the best. The place was pretty empty with only one other party of 2 people in a booth. We sat at a table and looked over the menus. We ordered: Ark Shell Cockle Grilled Top With Scallion Oil, $7.95 prior to tax- This comes with 4 pieces. Ark Shell Cockle are sweet and light tasting muscles. This was nice. #3 Goi Cuon, Shrimp & Pork Spring Rolls, $3.50 prior to tax- Comes with 2 rolls. This was good for the most part. #8 Banh Beo, Rice Cakes, $5.50 prior to tax- This is one of my favorite Vietnamese food items to eat. But the steamed rice cakes were a bit gooey and not as firm as other places that I have had it at before. I still liked it though but it was a little messy. This comes with 8 steamed rice cakes. #31 Special Combination Beef, $9.50 prior to tax- My husband ordered this and I thought it was okay. My husband liked it. I would definitely call in my order from now on. The Vietnamese Crepe was what I was most excited about and it ended up being the most lackluster. I really was expecting a little more shrimp in it. Ordered the Vietnamese crepe which I've had other places and is usually life changing. This was completely off and tasteless! Also ordered a wonton egg noodle shrimp and pork soup. I figured it's the best of both worlds to have seafood and meat. I also wanted the wontons too. Total of two wontons, three small shrimp and three small slices of pork. This is mostly the noodles and soup which are the filler items. My pet peeve is of food like this is having mostly the filler foods. My hubby had fried rice and pepper steak. We decided to hit the closest place and this one, well-recommended, came up! Off the beaten path in a strip mall, we arrived around 6pm Friday to an empty small but spotlessly clean restaurant. Gulp... There was no stopping us! Later, five other parties arrived and we had a nice bustling restaurant! I ordered the chili spring rolls because that sounded differently delicious. OMG! These are amazing! Full of veggies and a long slice of Chinese sausage, these crunchy spicy rolls are wonderful. Add in the atomic peanut sauce and we were in spring roll heaven! I ordered an extra set to go! The pho was fragrant, herbal, beefy, less expensive than other places, and worth the trip! I also got some pork fried rice since many had recommended the fried rice. One of our faves for Viet food in the area. In a very nondescript strip mall off 62nd Ave. I pass it all the time and had never noticed it before. Lots of parking and restaurant is a decent size. I think everything we've tried here has been pretty good. Hubby loves their caramelized catfish. The bun bo hue is good. So is the pho. Vermicelli dishes are fresh and flavorful. Stopped in here with our bi-weekly gathering of the geeks, a group of 8 folks who like to eat together and talk, the place was chosen by one of our crew and reservations were made. We took up one bank of their tables. The place was filled with locals, and though not large, it was busy. There was one waiter, and he was taking care of everything and everyone, and he got the job done! Our drink orders and food orders were taken fast and efficiently. When orders started coming out, they came out correctly. Almost everyone ordered the handmade fresh rolls and those were so amazingly tasty with fresh mint and shrimp, they were to die for. I ordered a broken rice dish with shrimp and pork and the husbeastie ordered a big bowl of Pho. Both were devoured! They were absolutely tasty and made fresh. Thanks to Yelp, we found this wonderful Vietnamese place tucked away in an unassuming strip mall. The restaurant itself is pretty small and they were almost to capacity when we stopped in on a Sunday afternoon (presumably their peak time). There was only one server working and he definitely had his hands full. We could tell the moment we walked in that it might take awhile to get our food but the aromas told us that it would be worth the wait, and **spoiler alert** it was!! My S.O. and I both ordered our favorite Vietnamese dish, the Vermicelli Bun and a couple of appetizers. As expected, it took some time to get our food but everything was soo delicious and fresh! The flavors were unique yet familiar enough that it didn't throw me off. This was definitely up there with some of the best Vietnamese food I've ever had! Not to mention, the prices are LOW!
