Snow Crab Legs and Mussels Combo Boil

Came to Ben's on a Friday and it was JUMPING. They have a live DJ that keeps the vibe going throughout the evening. Definitely a more mature crowd comes on Fridays. Started with the Crab Cakes, that was packed real crab meat, well seasoned. The Charbroiled Oysters were so good I'd order it twice! The Lobsters Mac and Cheese is a must order for those that indulge in creamy gooey goodness that Mac and cheese. The Snow crab legs and mussel combo boil did not disappoint. Great, bold flavors! The Catfish Basket consisted of a perfectly seasoned crispy pieces of Catfish and seasoned fried. So good and is a go to for me. The drinks were tasty and packed a good punch. Saint Mojito is a signature drink at Ben's. Order it! The Hennessy Sidecar was sweet and has bite. The Lychee Martini is light and refreshing but still a stiff drink.

First time at this location and it was pretty good. Was a fan of Ben's since it opened in Long Beach and before there were hundreds of seafood boil spots. Went here on a Wednesday night around 9pm. The music was loud and booming. Not sure if it was busy on the side of the bar/music, where it was more dimly lit, but they seated us in the opposite side where it was really bright and only one other couple was dining there. The service was good and quick but nothing exceptional. We ordered lychee martinis but did not enjoy them so we didn't order any more drinks. The food was pretty good. We had an order of the chargrilled oysters and the raw oysters; we enjoyed both. We also ordered the gumbo, this was a fail. Definitely wasn't authentic and was lacking flavor. The seafood boils were better. We had comb C and combo F which I think are good values for the price.

I've been a fan of Ben's crab since they originally opened a location on Long Beach, Long Island. Once they opened the location in Hempstead I was hoping for a Ben's crab near me then finally the Valley Stream location opened This restaurant is consistently pumping out well flavored seafood boils. I suggest popping in Monday - Friday for the happy hour from 2pm-6pm. The items are reasonably priced. Food such as raw oysters, grilled oysters, wings, Cajun fries, fried catfish, etc and drink specials that include margaritas, mojitos, wines etc I typically sit at the bar and the service tends to be just okay. My recommendation to the restaurant is to enforce a uniform policy. I often see the guys wear the Ben's shirt, black pants and black shoes while some of the girls will stroll in wearing attire best suited for bottle service girls and crocks (( not in a put together way, more in a " I just rolled out of bed, threw these tights on & walked to work" way)) Other than the attire and lack of fun friendly service ( like at the Long Beach location) the restaurant is beautifully decorated. Standard seafood boil ornaments, nets and pictures I come to this location because it's closer to my house and the food is flavorful however I do think staff needs retraining on customer service and proper attire

Always looking for some good oysters and looked up a place whilst doing some shopping nearby. I love finding places like these especially when I'm not in my area. On a cold Saturday night the place had a lot of people especially the bar area where a dj played top hip hop and rnb hits. The mic man even came around the dinner area to shoutout the guests seated there which people seemed to enjoy. On to my oysters, that came out perfectly grilled and flavorful, we also had drinks and crab legs and lobster which all tasted amazing because that garlic sauce needs to be bottled and sold.

Was there on a Friday when the bar part of restaurant turns into a mature crowd house party. There is dj some people doing a two step, food and drinks are being ordered. Good vibes! I was at a friend's birthday celebration. She reserved a few tables. There was table service as well as waiters on the floor taking food and drink request. I was fortunate to have Scy take my order. Scy is very attentive and pays attention to all the patrons requests. He provides quick and professional service. The fried shrimp are my favorite. The fries are very good and I'm not a fries type of person, but I eat them here. They have Dogfish IPA on happy hour! My friends are happy with drink and wine selection. The restrooms have always been clean the few ti.es I've been here.

This is my favorite go to spot. It is a neighborhood hot spot for cool vibes, great food, great music, and THE BEST STAFF. My favorite dishes are the salmon, scallops, and the saint mojito drink!

Ordered fried shrimp with French fries for pickup. We ate it instantly in my car because we were starving. They did a great job with packing everything to go and ensuring the food stayed crispy and not soggy. I love their system. Definitely coming back again!

So I was a bit hesitant on eating here, because I've been hearing not so great things. But my husband wanted to try so I said why not. Let's keep some money in the community. I was pleasantly surprised. I liked it. The food was definitely on point, the atmosphere was great. They were playing all the jams I grow up on ( DJ had to be my age ) it was clean and serves was on point . What more can you ask for. I would definitely go back. A plus for me , I've been looking for a place that made Hush puppies and I found it. Their Hush puppies were great...

FOOD - 4/5 SERVICE - 2/5 AMBIANCE - 2.5/3 If you like "hood" settings this is the place to be! If you want to be treated with disrespect, yall go right ahead! Would I return ? Absolutely NOT! The food was tasty. It was a small portion. 1 piece of chicken well cooked/ seasoned with a heap of garlic noodles. The taste was there (more of a sweet sauce) and the noodles were good. Let's get to the service... SEVERELY LACKING! The server kept disappearing and at 1 point I had to ask the host to get him. Let's get to the disrespect... A large group was standing and waiting while there were 2 empty 4 tops open to my right... eventually somebody asked for Jason and he came over and got them seated. Thereafter they wanted another table. I was alone so I wouldn't have minded if anyone politely requested the extra table I was seated at. Didn't happen. Instead, the head of the pack said something to Jason who then turned to me to ask if I was done eating. I was, and I ordered another drink so I wasn't ready to wrap it up. After asking what I ordered, Jason decided to bring me my drink in a Togo cup. How did it go from a martini glass to a plastic cup? RUDE I kindly told him 1) I didn't order my drink composed the way he brought it (the waiter knew and got it correct) and 2) don't rush me because you want the table, ask nicely and you can have it.. simple ‍ He insisted he wasn't rushing me yet my remade drink was again bought ANOTHER plastic cup. Who asked for that and how did we transition from being served 1 way to the other?! #UnderPressure Crazy that somebody can come and put pressure on somebody to mistreat a customer. Yall crazy and that negative energy is too much. Will not be back. Unfortunate encounter and very low vibrational energy Ben's Crab! PS - I must say that Friday night DJ was why I ordered a 2nd drink! He was excellent with the older music. The crowd was def 40+ so it went well

Friday evening Oct 5, 2024 , my friends and went to Ben's Crab Valley Stream. They had a DJ , the music was good a mixture of classic R&B and old school hip hop. The crowd was mostly by the bar and the DJ booth, a few people were dancing. The crowd seemed like they were regulars. After we were seated, we waited for someone to take our order. Tired of waiting I went to the counter and told them we were ready and they finally took the order. We ordered drinks , wings , Cajun boiled bag and Lobster Mac and cheese , Oysters. Unfortunately, they forgot to bring utensils , we had to wave someone down to get a fork. When he came with the fork , my friend ordered another drink. The next time he showed up was with the bill, she asked what happened to her drink , he said he forgot and apologized. I was disappointed at the lack of service we received, no one came to check on us ! I have been to the Oceanside location several times , the difference is night and day. I have ordered takeout before but today I just needed a moment to sit and enjoy something comforting . This place and the chowder did the trick. The place has been around since the 30's so that says a lot. They do have tables outdoor under a tent but I love the nostalgic vibe of the inside counter with the little stools. You can watch them fry up all the goodies. I was immediately greeted, sat and my beautiful bowl of chowder came. The service is endearing and though my first time dining in, they treated me like I was a regular and they do with everyone. Maybe that's why they have been around so long. Good food is great but service that makes you feel like you are a regular is top tier. As The clouds rolled in the thunder struck and as the rain poured down, I enjoyed my lovely bowl of New England clam chowder. They are heavy on the fresh clams and just right on the potatoes. They do have the red chowder and their Long Island version which is a mix of the 2. This just hit the spot all around and on a day like I was having today, filled my soul. I'll BE BAck for the good fried goodies next time. Thank you!

As someone who isn't the biggest fan of tomato based soups, but doesn't always want the heaviness of a cream based soup, this is the best of both worlds. Its flavor was rich yet balanced. The cream brought a smooth, velvety body and subtle sweetness, while the tomato added a bright acidity and savory depth. Potatoes provided gentle heft and earthy comfort, while onions, celery, and herbs built a layered, homey backbone. There was a good amount of tender clams, with natural sweetness that tied everything together. We also got an order or mini crab cakes. The exterior was golden fried, with a nice crunch. The interior was more crab than filler, with enough structure that it held together. It was simply seasoned, supporting the crab instead of overshadowing it. The horseradish Dijon sauce was more Dijon than horseradish. It brought a gentle tang and little bite to add a depth of flavor to the crab cake. Also of note, when you sit down they bring tartar sauce and cocktail sauce to your table. Both sauces were honestly the best of their kind that I can remember having in a very long time. I couldn't even tell you what made them so amazing, but I must have commented at least 7 times about how good they were. There's a reason Bigelow's has been around for almost 90 years. It's a simple spot, with old school charm, that knows a good thing when it's got it, and doesn't mess with perfection. It just continues to serve up consistently good fried seafood (with a few grilled options so you can drag your health conscious friends and they'll find something too).

The new hostess and the greeting by Phillipe could not have made us feel any more welcome. We were offered a choice of seating and while we love the look and feel of the back patio it was a bit too cool and breezy out there.... We decided to sit in the front room as it is generally quieter and more low key. There were many larger groups with celebrations and you could see they were all having a good time. Our waiter Luis, came and introduced himself, brought our menus and inquired about water, drinks, etc. We told him we wanted only pumpernickel rolls: they are warm, fresh out of the oven and truly addictive. Our waters and my white Zinfandel arrived shortly thereafter. Our fresh goat cheese salad arrived with the raspberry vinaigrette and as always it was carefully divided. Luis came to check on everything as he and other staff members ( both members who we know through dining here repeatedly over the years) and new additions. Everyone always treats you like family. Very good pacing of the meal.... Nice and leisurely, not rushed but no long breaks between courses. Then our main dishes arrived. My husband had the pappardelle with mixed seafood, no sausage- plentiful and loaded with flavor. I get the shrimp a La Rodos.... 5 very nice sized shrimp with with lots of diced fresh tomatoes and feta cheese, served with my 2 favorite side dishes- mashed potatoes and beets.... All YUMMY and very generous portions. My husband's Stella Artois arrives in a nice cold glass with the main dish, as requested. Luis again checks on everything and then shortly thereafter we get the surprise of the evening. Peter, the new owner stops by and chats with us. It was a pleasure to meet him: we are sure he is very busy running back and forth between his two restaurants. and making sure that everything is going smoothly. We had a lot to talk about. Well, he has a tough act to follow but so far the food, service and hospitality are still 5 star !!! We ended our meal on a high note. A FABULOUS meal has to end on a sweet note. We were offered about 5 or 6 dessert choices. We selected the chocolate mousse cake. A rich, creamy sweet conclusion to a superb meal served by a warm, caring staff. Everyone including Luis, Felipe and the new hostess gave us a fond Farewell on the way out. We eagerly look forward to returning after their vacation at the beginning of August !! Most of what came out of the kitchen was diner quality at best--nothing special, but not offensive. The duck, however, was a disaster. It tasted old and stale, like it had been sitting in a freezer for months before being rushed through a fryer. The meat was fried to a dry, brittle crisp, and the only flavor came from a cloying sweet duck sauce slapped on top. No richness, no tenderness, no redeeming qualities. We absolutely hated our meal and the entire time we spent there. I can't recommend this place to anyone who actually cares about what they eat.
