The Chantilly location is in a small, rustic tin-roofed reproduction of an 1807 tavern (McAtee's Tavern, historically also known as the Mitchell-Weeks House). A historic marker, erected by the Fairfax County History Commission in 2017, is on-site. Food. The Burger Shack has an extensive menu with burgers (beef, chicken, turkey, vegetarian), hot dogs, fish fillets, fries/tater tots, milkshakes, and more. My husband and I selected from their Specialty Burger menu, which features huge 7 oz. fresh, never-frozen Angus beef burgers on soft brioche buns, that are cooked to order (rare to well done) on a large grill just behind the order counter. I selected the Swiss and Mushroom beef burger ($11.99), while my husband chose the BBQ Bacon Cheddar ($12.49). He also upgraded his to a combo ($4.99), which added fries and a fountain drink. Overall, we really enjoyed the food. The burgers were perfectly charred, cooked to our preferred temperature, tasted fresh, and served hot on delicious brioche buns. The fries were crispy, and of a good quantity for us to share. I would've preferred more mushrooms on my burger, and my husband would've liked more BBQ sauce -- but the biggest change that we'd make for future orders would be to select the option to "Build Our Own Burger" rather than selecting from the Specialty Burger menu. The 7 oz burgers were just too big, with too much meat, for our own preferences. The Burger Shack has options to select your own burger size if you build your own (ranging from 4 oz to 7 oz). Seating. The restaurant is relatively small, with indoor seating for perhaps 40 people at full capacity. There are also a few outdoor picnic tables. The restaurant was clean, and tables were wiped down regularly. They were also doing a healthy carry-out business. Service. You order at a counter; your food is then freshly made to order and brought to your table. The counter staff and waiter were efficient but neither friendly nor unfriendly. The parking lot on-site is tiny and tight. However, there's plenty of room to park on the Route 50 Access Road.
