This spot is so underrated. It should be a viral sensation simply for the insane amount of options!! It was such a treat to see so many beautiful desserts. The staff working was so helpful and answered all of our questions. I'll def be back to try some savory options. Loved the mango passionfruit tart/eclair!

This is a tiny, cute cafe across from the Holiday Inn Express. Luckily, a customer with a thick French accent (oui oui) helped us choose from the large selection of goodies. Our favorite was the baklava with pistachios. It was nicely balanced and not too sweet. Unfortunately, I mostly tasted a strong soap flavor in the other items we chose. I assume it's rose water, but not sure. Since the owner was kind and the variety was amazing, my friend and I plan to return and try something else.

Passed by here for some desserts/pastries to take home after having coffee somewhere else. The place is small but offers a wide variety of pastries. Service and staff were unremarkable. I wish they'd put the names of items on each tray of pastry so I can put a name to what I'm supposed to review on. Having said that, the three pastries I bought were just okay.

A smorgasbord of delicious desserts. So many options of tasty treats. Everything I tried was yummy to the tummy. So many to try I can't wait to go back. They also have sandwiches which I didnt try yet. The items weren't clearly marked with prices atleast to what I could see. I prefer to know how much each item is I'm paying for. I had to just trust the worker was adding it all up correctly. Im not even sure if I was over charged or not. It was quite pricey for the amount I got. I might never know haha. Ask how much everything is before purchasing, just my advise. Pro tip: hard to find parking on the street, they have a small alley leading to a parking lot in the back.

This place has incredible food. It's one of the many hidden gems located in Berkeley but it's a spot that should be put on much higher notice. Every single thing I ate there was absolutely delicious. Literally everything: the sandwiches and the desserts I give the highest praise in addition to their service. The place carries one of those energies that fills you with excitement as you look around the store and embrace the reality of having the chance to try so many different pastries. The atmosphere is a huge win, and even though it's not much the outside eating area is just right and makes this place ideal for going out with a friend or significant other. Where they should definitely improve listing the names of each item store on their display art or inside. I assume it's because they have so many options. It's just easier for them to have the customers point out the items that they want but for me when it comes to a review, it's almost impossible because I don't know what everything was titled in addition to not even really knowing entirely what it was that I ate. A lot of the items they sell here are obvious to the naked eye, but it's still incredibly difficult to describe them entirely. But putting that aside, I look forward to coming back here again. Wow this isn't a place where I will go above and beyond out of my way to visit, I enjoyed it enough that I'm telling anyone to go over there if they're in that area and also giving a major word of advice that would easily make it more convenient for consumers to see what they have available at the hopefully increase their customer base. Overall, Belmo Cafe gets a 4/5.

When visiting A friend we wanted to find a yummy local pastry shop for breakfast... After a search on Yelp, this place came up and we decided to head that way. Once we arrived, it was obvious that this is a hidden gem, which was a delight for both the eyes and the nose! It was filled with a variety of French and Algerian delights in our eyes couldn't almost take it all in. So many options! We asked the owner some of his recommendations as well as purchased a classic - chocolate croissant. They have seating outside, but the inside is for ordering and taking away . Once we made our selections, the owner brought it out to us, as well as some Turkish tea, which was the perfect combination with the amazing pastries. My favorite was the Algerian almond sweet, which tasted a bit like marzipan, but wasn't overly sugary. So delicious! We loved it so much we're headed down there again today to pick up things for friends. This would definitely be a go to Shopp if I lived in the area. I highly recommend going often and trying all of their varieties. Yum!

Browsing IG I came across Belmo Cafe and you know for sure the video and pictures don't justified what you will find and where. After dinner with my family we decided to give it a try and stop by the cafe, we picked up a few desserts since all of them were Turkish sweets There are couple tables outside but not a place to seat and hangout in the windy weather but probably for the summer night might work better The guy who help us out was really friendly, and Knowledgeable good customer service.

This is a must stop in Berkeley for treats! Probably the best baklava I've ever had is being made inside the small but mighty cafe right off College. The owner of this establishment really makes sure you're going to leave happy and satisfied even to the point where he gives you samples to try desserts that you might not have normally tried! A number of times he has given me a treat to try and I ended up ordering 10 after because the flavor is unreal. So for service I would give them a 10/10 The amount of pastries they have each day is seriously epic with them having different selections of products each day. Give this place a try if you're looking for a snack or a treat in the east bay.

Just love this bakeshop as soon as you walk in, the aroma of freshly baked goods just lingers in the air. I was surprised how much selections of baked goods they have. It was definitely a hard decision on what to buy. So I got some of my favorites the baklava, banana bread, pistachio cream croissant, tiramisu, and the pistachio latte and Turkish coffee to go with the pastries. Definitely will come here again.

The men working were sooor sweet - JUST like the treats and caramel iced latte (which they specifically made since they usually do hot(but they do it all rly)). so many options of treats, i only tried a lot, but im sure the rest were just as yummy. read more

Wow what a gem! I wish I could rate this place higher! Not only was the coffee perfect and the treats delicious, but the kind man running the cafe was so patient explaining all the different beautiful pastries. This is an excellent shop we first found half a year ago. We were back in Berkeley today and bought sandwiches for lunch. One was beef and the other salmon. Both were on cresh crossants, and had nice mixed greens, not the cheap lettuce lesser places use. I also had a latte, better than most. I would detour off of the freeway to again go to enjoy this small business which offers superior quality. read more

Fantastic pastries and wonderful, kind staff. Seating outdoor only given the small size, but there was still a restroom for customers to us. My friend and I stumbled upon this cafe while thrifting and were craving coffee. I got a dirty chai latte which paired deliciously with my pear croissant. They have an amazing assortment of European and Middle Eastern delicacies. read more

This place seems more a bakery than a cafe. There are small tables outside and this inside is packed with/ dozens of exquisite sweet treats. Algerian baker / owner is an artist who takes great pride un his craft His old school approach to customer service makes you feel special. He loves explaining the ingredients of each of his cookies, pastries, cakes snd candies. Every time I visit I walk away w/ multiple samples, he just wants me to try. This special find deserves your attention!! read more

Belmo Algerian & French Cafe is just off San Pablo Ave on University in Berkeley. It's a small, easily passable cafe that is simply fantastic. Lots of delicacies, cakes and pastries. But also lots of Turkish delight and other African/middle eastern sweets. I was so surprised on how good it was as it's pretty unassuming location. You can park in front at the curb and grab what you need. Don't miss this wonderful culinary find. read more

My sister and I passed by this bakery on our way to dinner. Being lovers of pastries, we decided that we'll visit the place if it was still open after our dinner. Place is small but packed with good looking and delicious pastries! My sis and I are not familiar with Algerian pastries and the owner was so nice and welcoming with answering our questions. I love the chocolate pistachio baklava I got! My sister got one of the almond cookies. Can't pick the wrong pastry here! The owner is just so wonderful and we would be back! read more

I stopped by couple weeks ago , i got couple pieces of cake . People running this place were really nice and helpful . They helped me out to grab the right cakes cuz they do have a lot of different cakes so the choice is really really tough. I will go back to try some of their other offerings to experience what all the other 5star people have. I didn't have what the other reviewers had. I had several of the cookies. Are Algerian cookies supposed to be dry and sablé like? She said they were butter cookies, but they didn't taste buttery to me. The alfajore was fine. The date filled crescent I spit out because of it's extreme soapy flavor (overdid the rose water?). The raisin scone was fine. The slice of princess cake was just okay - it was overly gelatinous. I hope the second visit will be better. read more

We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon for some desserts. We asked the nice person at the counter for some suggestions and ended up with a few we liked. The shop sells lots of varieties of desserts and the price reflect what you would pay in the bay area. read more

We've been a couple of times now and each time the pastries have been delicious. Princess cakes, cream puffs, pistachio cravats, almond croissants, and cookies have all been excellent. It's our go to now. I'd highly recommend Belmo for anyone needing to bring a selection of desserts, too. Also, we have been greeted so graciously and welcomed in. read more

This review is long overdue. I do not know how to feel about this. The hype and the reviews made me come to try this quaint cafe. It is a charming spot. I intentionally went to get some Turkish delights and Turkish coffee. I was disappointed. I was expecting it to be chewy, gummy like. It was tough and stale. I should have gotten something else. The Turkish coffee was likewise a fail. The water from the thermos was not hot enough. It was just all wrong that day. It could be that my timing was off. It was around 8 am and during Ramadan when I went. Or I have high expectations specially when you call your spot a cafe. In Europe, you can get an espresso for 1euro and you get quality coffee and a good croissant for 2 euros. Also, the desserts look very similar to a bakery in Solano ave in Albany, the Lavander Bakery. One thing that stands out is that they're open late. For people like me who drink coffee at night, that would be a big plus. read more

Belmo Cafe is a new gem in West Berkeley. Fresh house-made classic French pastries (croissants, Napoleans, meringues, etc) and many delicious Algerian specialties that can't be found anywhere else. The two gentlemen running the shop were as sweet as the zlabia samples they shared generously with their customers. Our town needs more unique small businesses like this one. Let's support their success! read more

My go-to order is the Berkeley Special with cheddar cheese and veggies on honey wheat bread and it never disappoints! Everything tastes very fresh and the honey wheat bread is amazing, love how it is so soft. Mezzo is well known for its humongous portion sizes, so this sandwich can easily be shared. If you really want a meal that lasts for days, I would recommend ordering a salad - that is truly a behemoth. No other restaurant has bang for buck quite like Mezzo. Perfect for hungry college students - they really know their customers. Highly recommend!

Won't shop at this meat counter again.

A Hidden Gem for Authentic Middle Eastern Sweets Rating: (5/5) I recently visited Belmo Café with my girlfriend and I can't recommend this place enough! Right from the start, the service was exemplary. The gentleman who assisted us was not only courteous but also welcoming, even offering us a unique piece of chocolate baklava on the house. As someone of Lebanese descent who makes baklava from time to time, I was pleasantly surprised by their twist on this classic dessert. Chocolate baklava is not something you come across often, and it was a delightful innovation without compromising the traditional flavors. Beyond the baklava, I decided to get an assortment of baked goods to share with friends. Each item was nothing short of incredible. The kataif was superbly crafted, maintaining the right texture and sweetness. The classic baklava was also a standout, brilliantly layered and oozing with flavor. If you are looking for some real Algerians specialty that the place you need to go! I recommend getting the Maghreb ( some sort of crepe) and the chicken pockets (not sure how they call them).
