What a delightful find after a morning of bike ride into Berkeley. We stashed our bikes and quickly became immersed with the variety of colorful, tantalizing pastries beautifully displayed inside the cafe. Eclairs galore! Friendly server quickly got our tea and iced latte out. I also couldn't resist a chocolate dipped scallop shaped cookie which turned out to be two sandwiched together. Very flaky texture and lightly sweetened which was perfect. We saw that they also offered different savory sandwiches and a "French taco" lol. Will have to return and try next time!

The cheesecake was SO. GOOD. I need to go back to try their other cheesecake flavors. This place had about a billion different pastries/baked goods. I wasn't a huge fan of the baklava it was a bit too nutty but it was still good

This is a tiny, cute cafe across from the Holiday Inn Express. Luckily, a customer with a thick French accent (oui oui) helped us choose from the large selection of goodies. Our favorite was the baklava with pistachios. It was nicely balanced and not too sweet. Unfortunately, I mostly tasted a strong soap flavor in the other items we chose. I assume it's rose water, but not sure. Since the owner was kind and the variety was amazing, my friend and I plan to return and try something else.

Passed by here for some desserts/pastries to take home after having coffee somewhere else. The place is small but offers a wide variety of pastries. Service and staff were unremarkable. I wish they'd put the names of items on each tray of pastry so I can put a name to what I'm supposed to review on. Having said that, the three pastries I bought were just okay.

So much deliciousness to choose from - so get a box! Outdoor seating great for people watching. Friendly, helpful staff

A smorgasbord of delicious desserts. So many options of tasty treats. Everything I tried was yummy to the tummy. So many to try I can't wait to go back. They also have sandwiches which I didnt try yet. The items weren't clearly marked with prices atleast to what I could see. I prefer to know how much each item is I'm paying for. I had to just trust the worker was adding it all up correctly. Im not even sure if I was over charged or not. It was quite pricey for the amount I got. I might never know haha. Ask how much everything is before purchasing, just my advise. Pro tip: hard to find parking on the street, they have a small alley leading to a parking lot in the back.

This place has incredible food. It's one of the many hidden gems located in Berkeley but it's a spot that should be put on much higher notice. Every single thing I ate there was absolutely delicious. Literally everything: the sandwiches and the desserts I give the highest praise in addition to their service. The place carries one of those energies that fills you with excitement as you look around the store and embrace the reality of having the chance to try so many different pastries. The atmosphere is a huge win, and even though it's not much the outside eating area is just right and makes this place ideal for going out with a friend or significant other. Where they should definitely improve listing the names of each item store on their display art or inside. I assume it's because they have so many options. It's just easier for them to have the customers point out the items that they want but for me when it comes to a review, it's almost impossible because I don't know what everything was titled in addition to not even really knowing entirely what it was that I ate. A lot of the items they sell here are obvious to the naked eye, but it's still incredibly difficult to describe them entirely. But putting that aside, I look forward to coming back here again. Wow this isn't a place where I will go above and beyond out of my way to visit, I enjoyed it enough that I'm telling anyone to go over there if they're in that area and also giving a major word of advice that would easily make it more convenient for consumers to see what they have available at the hopefully increase their customer base. Overall, Belmo Cafe gets a 4/5.

When visiting A friend we wanted to find a yummy local pastry shop for breakfast... After a search on Yelp, this place came up and we decided to head that way. Once we arrived, it was obvious that this is a hidden gem, which was a delight for both the eyes and the nose! It was filled with a variety of French and Algerian delights in our eyes couldn't almost take it all in. So many options! We asked the owner some of his recommendations as well as purchased a classic - chocolate croissant. They have seating outside, but the inside is for ordering and taking away . Once we made our selections, the owner brought it out to us, as well as some Turkish tea, which was the perfect combination with the amazing pastries. My favorite was the Algerian almond sweet, which tasted a bit like marzipan, but wasn't overly sugary. So delicious! We loved it so much we're headed down there again today to pick up things for friends. This would definitely be a go to Shopp if I lived in the area. I highly recommend going often and trying all of their varieties. Yum!

Browsing IG I came across Belmo Cafe and you know for sure the video and pictures don't justified what you will find and where. After dinner with my family we decided to give it a try and stop by the cafe, we picked up a few desserts since all of them were Turkish sweets There are couple tables outside but not a place to seat and hangout in the windy weather but probably for the summer night might work better The guy who help us out was really friendly, and Knowledgeable good customer service.

This is a must stop in Berkeley for treats! Probably the best baklava I've ever had is being made inside the small but mighty cafe right off College. The owner of this establishment really makes sure you're going to leave happy and satisfied even to the point where he gives you samples to try desserts that you might not have normally tried! A number of times he has given me a treat to try and I ended up ordering 10 after because the flavor is unreal. So for service I would give them a 10/10 The amount of pastries they have each day is seriously epic with them having different selections of products each day. Give this place a try if you're looking for a snack or a treat in the east bay.

Just stopped by for a coffee and croissant and picked up some pastries. All delicious - you can't go wrong here. A real gem.

We came for breakfast on our visit to Berkeley and this cafe is a treasure trove of delicious and gorgeous exotic pastries!! The owner was such a sweetheart and served us an amazing experience of Turkish coffee. My only regret is I live 2 hours away from this gem!

We bought 2 cappuccinos with 1 Turkish tea and some pastry. The cappuccinos were warm almost cold and the Turkish tea was sour tasting. I know what Turkish tea taste like. The Turkish churro and the croissant were stale. The service is ok and the ambiance is ok too. Also some of their sweets are in open air which was not good. We were walking down the street for an afternoon stroll, and... at the risk of sounding corny: we were simply pulled into this establishment by its warm energy. I experienced the best eclair I probably ever will, and my husband was equally thrilled with his baklava. Our 18 month old son found his way out of his stroller and bonked his head, and the man with the sweetest heart offered him a lion shaped cookie to help him feel better. The most serendipitous thing - because our son's name is Greek for Lion. We are in Berkeley on vacation but we definitely want to go back before we pick up and leave simply to pay this gentleman another visit. Thank you so much for a warm experience! If you have the chance you must go. read more

Visited for first time with my son. We had chocolate and almond croissants, apricot and raspberry bars and chocolate eclair. All of it delicious with coffee. The chocolate in the croissant was lovely - soft and smooth and not a hard strip that you may find at other spots. To go as gifts I also purchased baklava and what I call the crescent moon almond cookie (that's what it looked like). Friendly staff and so many options at around 9:30 AM - will return to try more. read more

Never been in such a beautiful bakery. Willie wonka would make notes! Went to scout out the goodies and purchased a roast beef sandwich, yes they sell sandwiches, coffee and other delicious treats. The sandwich was on a long chibata roll, with meat to vegetable to bread ratio on point. It was rolled in foil and butcher paper for freshness. If you have a special occasion and want to bring a WOW desert or just want to treat yourself to a great sammy or desert. This is your place! I would stop just to see how awesome the shop looks. We have now visited Belmo five times since discovering it in Nov 2022. It's a standard part of our rotation of favorites, and each time we come we discover more pastries we love. The selection is wide and varied, and ROTATES. I emphasize this as some pastries seem standard, but others only show up on occasion. Some of the 5-star pastries we've tried: - Lemon meringue tart. If you love lemon meringue pie and lemon curd, this is top-notch. Perfect balance of flavors. Also, Belmo's pastry doughs are superb. They actually have flavor and texture, because Chef Nadir uses real butter. Yum! - Chocolate/Raspberry mousse cake, pyramid-shaped, chocolate shell coating. Sometimes Chef makes it all chocolate; so ask. It's the only one shaped like this, you can't mistake it for anything else. - Any of the round, chocolate shell coated half-spheres: a layer of tender cake and a creamy mousse. Different flavors, all are excellent. - Eclairs. I can usually pass over eclairs, because most are made with lousy quality pastry dough. Chef Nadir makes real, honest-to-goodness pate au choux, filled with a lightly stabilized whipped cream filling. His espresso eclair with espresso cream filling with an espresso/chocolate glaze - OMG it is great!! We approach Belmo in the spirit of serendipity. We're never quite sure what we're going to come home with, but we've become confident almost everything is going to be wonderful. Why there are not lines out the door every day for this man's baking, is maddening. He is producing some of the best pastries of any bakery in the entire East Bay, and yes I am including Masse's and Rotha in this (mind you, this is for Belmo's PASTRIES - his croissants are good, but not quite enough butter and it isn't cultured). Parking is metered but ridiculously easy. Remember there is very little sit-down space, so best to take it home. And be patient, because none of the pastries have labels, so you have to ask about every single one of those divine-looking desserts in the display cases! But it's worth it, we assure you. GO. NOW. AND TELL YOUR FRIENDS. This little place deserves to be supported! read more

I stopped by about 5pm on a Sunday, and was happy to see that I could still get a sandwich. I got the salmon sandwich, and it was delicious. A little messy, however. I needed extra napkins. I got a latte with it, which was also good. I wanted to take a pastry home with me, and I couldn't decide what to get - they all looked amazing. I opted for a cream filled brioche. Today they have some jazz playing inside, as I sit at the smaller of two tables, across from the bench. The people watching is mostly for the half dozen bakers that are smiling back from the open air space. One of the bakers washes her hands to come up and take your order. And the food... I ordered a buckwheat cocoa, a tea they have here. Too hot, haven't tried it, but there is a zero chance I'll be able to pair it with my tomato, gruyere, and corn danish. Zero chance because I'm eating it way too fast. The savory herbs, the two kinds of sesame, the pine nuts, the blistered, juicy tomatoes, the sweet corn, the savory, heavenly flavors. I've had tarts with... well, some of these flavors, but mixing it with this perfect crispy lamination is truly otherworldly. I can't wait to return for something sweet next time. After all, cakes seem to be their bread and butter!

If you've ever had Arsicault, then you'll understand what I mean when I say this place is a true contender. And the best part? You don't have to travel far, pay that toll bridge, or deal with expensive gas. Save all that and give this place a try! Do note: Canelé -- available Friday to Sunday Pastel de nata (Portuguese tarts) -- available Saturday & Sunday What I've tried: Croissant -- Yum, yum, yum! From end to end, it has that perfectly crunchy exterior, and not a hollow bite in sight. Every bite is flaky, buttery, and satisfying. Chocolate Croissant -- A must if you love chocolate. Rich, flaky, and indulgent. Almond Croissant -- Another delicious contender. Nutty, sweet, and absolutely worth it. Apricot Croissant -- Not bad at all. The apricot adds a nice touch without overpowering the pastry. Bostock -- This one was a miss for me. It looked beautiful, but it was missing that little finesse that makes you want another bite. Gâteau au Fromage (Basque Cheesecake) -- A bit pricey, but so worth the splurge because they really know how to nail it. One bite and you won't be able to stop until it's gone. Pastel de Nata -- Crispy edges with a delicate, creamy, and delicious filling. That crunch is everything. Canelé -- These babies sell fast, so make sure to get there when they open. I love the crunchy exterior paired with that soft, custardy inside. Yum, yum, yum! Chocolate Fondant -- Not bad, but not my favorite. I've definitely had better elsewhere. Chocolate Hazelnut Cake -- The flavor was nice, but I found this one just a tad dry. Bottom line: While not everything was a home run, their croissants, canelés, Basque cheesecake, and pastel de nata are absolutely worth coming back for. A hidden gem that delivers big on flavor without the long drive. Definitely worth the visit!

A Hidden Gem for Authentic Middle Eastern Sweets Rating: (5/5) I recently visited Belmo Café with my girlfriend and I can't recommend this place enough! Right from the start, the service was exemplary. The gentleman who assisted us was not only courteous but also welcoming, even offering us a unique piece of chocolate baklava on the house. As someone of Lebanese descent who makes baklava from time to time, I was pleasantly surprised by their twist on this classic dessert. Chocolate baklava is not something you come across often, and it was a delightful innovation without compromising the traditional flavors. Beyond the baklava, I decided to get an assortment of baked goods to share with friends. Each item was nothing short of incredible. The kataif was superbly crafted, maintaining the right texture and sweetness. The classic baklava was also a standout, brilliantly layered and oozing with flavor. If you find yourself in town, do yourself a favor and stop by Belmo Café. It's a haven for anyone who appreciates authentic Middle Eastern confectioneries. Highly recommended! I would recommend avoiding the items that are not behind the glass as I noticed some flys landing on them . read more

J'en ai l'eau à la bouche. ‍‍---------------------- The lovely, gorgeous, succulent, divine pastries are showcased behind glass as if displayed in a museum or fine jewelry retailer. Flour, water, and fruit jewels painstakingly prepared and crafted like sculpture. It should almost be a crime to stick your fork in them! The shop is always very clean and has the whole French vibe going on with the decorations, etc. Café Parisian is run by a pair of twins from Paris: HOCINE and AHCE. "Les rois de la boulangerie" I believe they share duties at their other shoppe in Paris and rotate locations from time to time. Even if you're not hungry, it's worth a trip to stop in to say bonjour and of course grab a box of pastries to go! It is indeed a joy to speak with them and today Hocine was attending the front counter. He genuinely is a very friendly man with a quick wit and a humorous personality. The service is second to none and a rarity in many places these days. Like a Traiteur HOCINE is catering to your every need and explaining anything that you need to know. If you ask what ingredients are in something he will lay it all out in a succinct manner. I was just taking a peek to see what was new because I haven't been in there for a minute and I just had a lousy empanada (from a tree that bears fruit) down the street that was close to being inedible! I was thinking about having a burrito up the road a bit until we started chatting and I just couldn't leave without having lunch. I opted for this "round sandwich" or savory pastry stuffed with many vegetables including mushrooms, brussel sprouts, and more. A large portion and truly magnificent. It was cut into to four pieces, served with some nice hot sauce packets and could've been shared. My lunch partner had a similar sandwich, but his was with chicken. His assessment? "SUBLIME". Well, Mr. HOCINE lives up to the origin of his name, which can translate to pride and identity. Also, somewhere not really lost in translation is also "good" and "handsome", but I wouldn't say that because it might go to his head! ------------------------------ Merci pour ce délicieux repas, votre excellent service, vos connaissances, la présentation soignée et votre personnalité remarquable.
