This spot is very hit or miss. The first time I came here, they were on it with service and quality. Sadly, it was a very big miss this time. I came to pick up a to-go order and asked if there was plasticware in the bag. The guy told me " no we don't do that." Why you wouldn't naturally provide the basic utensils is beyond me. So I hunted the plasticware down and added it. I believe at one point this place cared about service and quality. But maybe that time is gone. The order was smashed into the bag and sauce was dripping off the side. The last time I had a craving for calamari, it tasted soggy and strange. It tasted as if it had been reheated in a microwave. Why is there no consistency, and why have they decided to give up on customer service? I hope they can get their act together. I will give them one more shot and update soon. read more

We came here after hiking at Colorado Bend. It was amazing! We loved Nicole, she was was s kind and friendly! The food was amazing! I got the veggie pizza and a moscato. This place was a real treat. It is a nice place with a lot of locals, a little removed from the tourist areas. Cloth napkins, I would characterize the lunch menu as Italian comfort food with some more authentic options for dinner. The service was excellent and we enjoyed everything. Bella Sera feels like a diner where you come in, grab your bites and go buy you can definitely come in and hang for a while. It's got plenty of space and the food came out pretty quickly. We had great service from Nicole. She's super nice. They have Italian food but we came in for the pizza and it was delicious! I had the gluten free 14" meat lovers. Good size. Tasty! Italian comfort food pretty much sums this up :) We got the Chicken Marsala and the Tortellini Michelangelo. Both were yummy but in a heavy, comfort-food type of way. Of the two, I preferred the Tortellini Michelangelo which is cheese-filled pasta in an Alfredo sauce with mushrooms. We ordered red wines with our meal and both were good. They also give complimentary garlic knots to start. The place is cute and casual, Italian diner vibes inside. The outside looks unassuming, but charming in its own way. The lunch specials are a great deal! I tried the sausage calzone and cheese ravioli and they were great. Cheap with leftovers but definitely didn't taste cheap. I came back with the hubby while our kiddo was at camp. I got some sort of tortellini Alfredo dish which was really good. Hubby got the Margherita pizza which was delicious! I usually don't write reviews, but my experience at Bella Sera in Fredericksburg was so shockingly bad I feel obligated to warn others. First off, the food was unacceptable. The salami on my parents salad was brown and visibly discolored--clearly not fresh and possibly unsafe. My mom also noted the salad did not taste correctly. So I decided to take it back to the store. Took it to the very nice young man in the front and he went to his boss and his boss loudly asked "whats up man". The young man shows the food to his boss and the Boss automatically looks at me and begins to complain that my family and I keep coming back (mind you we did not get the correct order the FIRST time). He then comes from the back kitchen.... Even worse than the food was the treatment I received. The owner continuously and adamantly referred to me as "girl" in a condescending tone, which felt racially charged and deeply disrespectful. When I said "Excuse me, what did you call me?" And he looked me into my eyes and said "GIRL" and I, at that point let him know my full first name. At one point, he literally threw my salad onto the front table and yelled at me from the kitchen. After continuously letting me know "He cut it today girl". The meat was 2 different colors of brown and grey. It was demeaning and completely uncalled for. After my aunt called the manager and asked what happened he proceeded to lie and say I caused a scene and that he called me "ma'am". Then admitted he called me "Girl". She then educated him on what the phrase "Girl" means according to African Americans in America. The atmosphere was chaotic and hostile--nothing like the welcoming, family-style service you expect in Fredericksburg. I left feeling angry and disturbed. Bella Sera is not worth your time, money, or dignity. I will never return, and I strongly encourage others to avoid this place as well. read more

Oh, Bella Serra, you had me at "homemade garlic knots" and then broke my heart. I was ready to take a delicious trip down memory lane, reminiscing about the homemade garlic rolls from my childhood that were straight-up life-changing. But what did I get? Not fresh, not garlicky, and honestly, not knots worth remembering. If I didn't know better, I'd think someone just whispered the word "garlic" over these rolls and called it a day. Not. One. Bit. of garlicky goodness to be found and the bread itself was so gross. Not fresh made bread. Nothing about this was homemade OR garlic. Left knots in my foodie heart! Now, onto the Fettuccine Alfredo... where do I even begin? I ordered the half portion, and I have to say, it's a full portion of disappointment. Easily one of the worst Alfredo sauces I've ever had in my life. It was bland, gloopy, and tasted like it had never even heard of Parmesan or cream. Alfredo sauce is supposed to be rich and flavorful, not a sad, flavorless puddle. I see that Bella Serra is "family-owned," but I really hope it's not an Italian family because their ancestors are probably doing somersaults in their graves right now. To say I wouldn't return? We accidentally found this gem while driving down Pat Booker. A family-owned and served delicious little spot. They offer very personal, polite, fast service with delicious food. They have a very expansive menu to suit anyone. They do not serve alcohol but most small restaurants no longer can afford to. They have gluten-free pasta available which is essential for our family. Food was overall mediocre, most of it was very bland. The Alfredo sauce we got was chunky and separated, the "marinara" on my spaghetti was literally a pile of chunks of tomatoes. The server was an older lady who basically disappeared after we got our food, we had to go up to the counter and get another server to cash us out. She wasn't rude, just wasn't overly nice. Calamari: I would say that this was not the best calamari I have had. I would definitely skip this. They have plenty of other options. It was a little chewy and the breading was lacking flavor. Garlic bread: it came out warm, so of course we all had two. We could have had more, but we were conscious of all the food we had ordered. Friendly staff. Parking on site. Came on a Saturday night around 6:30 and was seated right away. This place gives an old school diner feel. They gave us garlic knots which definitely needed more garlic and butter as it was very plain. The bruschetta feta was not the best. The chicken soup was odd since the broth was almost a tomato base. The ceasar salad was good so I'd recommend that over the soup they offer. I ordered the Michael Angelo with chicken which was really good. You don't go to an Italian restaurant to count carbs, and you don't dare skip the piping-hot bread basket at Bella Sera. Go ahead, slather on some extra fresh butter - you can go for a jog tomorrow. For a hearty carb encore, one of my favorites is the creamy tortellini Michelangelo - al dente and filled with cheese. The spicy sausage arrabiata with penne is no slouch either. This restaurant has delicious, made-fresh Italian cuisine at excellent prices! Amazingly, they offer gluten free pizza, pasta and all the sauces, including the Alfredo, are also gluten-free! The restaurant is located outside the hustle and bustle of pricy downtown Fredericksburg, which is very nice. It looks like a favorite spot for the locals. We were in town for Fourth of July and was craving Italian. We normally go to Bella Sera in Kerrville and wanted to give this place a try. When we arrived, there was only a few people around us. By the time we left, it was packed! Our server was nice and took our order in a promptly manner. Our food was fresh when we received it. I love how much spaghetti they give you. There's something about the thin noodles that I love! The veal was cooked just right and loved the flavorings of the carbonara. Overall, we love Bella Sera and will definitely be back!! read more

Pretty much exactly like the pizza that I enjoyed so much in KERRVILLE at Bellasera. This is one of their other stores in Fredericksburg and I can attest that being an East Coast pizza food snob this one also is very good. The sauce is terrific. I left off all the trimmings and had just plain cheese (light cheese) and wonderful sauce. Also asked for a crispy bottom which they did perfectly. Not burnt, just right. That finishes off the East Coast vibe. That was enough to make a perfect pie. Now I have another place to stop when I'm traveling to Fredericksburg. Excellent service by the staff.
