Leah was super clear about what category a dress fit into. She broke down all the pricing and sent us off with a smile. We also loved the set up of the dressing room. It really put the bride on display and we could see her without having to stand up and move around. It was private and clearly thought out. I found my dream dress immediately, but told myself I'd check out a few other places. I felt no pressure that I was leaving without purchasing anything (even though I knew I'd be back). A few weeks later I returned (with an appointment again) to try on my dream dress one last time after no other place from Austin to San Antonio matched what I wanted. I had the same wonderful associate (wish I remembered her name..just knew she was from PA near where my dad grew up). Same wonderful experience and I was able to say yes to the dress! I still can't dote on this place enough. The dresses are gorgeous and plenty (I know- the place seems too small to have a large selection, but trust me!). They also have a sale section, so keep an eye out. If I need a fancy dress for an event I will definitely stop in here- everything was so awesome and the price was reasonable. The only thing I would change is I would use their recommendation for alterations instead of someone I used who did it from home..and was not a professional. In addition, the store is nicely laid out making it easy to peruse the racks and other items within the boutique. While this boutique could be considered high end, they do have very good sales. For example, during their Margarita sale some items sell for 70-75% off. When they were located on 6th Street, they used to serve margaritas during their margarita sales. Given that my shopping love language is sales and deep discounts, over the years I have found some incredible deals. As an example, a few years back, you could purchased a pair of shoes at 80% off during an end of season sale. Service is what sets Julian Gold apart from most boutiques. The sales representatives go out of their way to get to know you personally. Julian Gold has stores located in San Antonio and Corpus Christi, TX. They will happily transfer items in those stores to Austin, TX, if you make that request. In fact, when we lived Washington state, I visited the store every 1-2 years, but when I returned to Austin, they always greeted me warmly and by name.

I was starting to browse around town looking for alteration options for a bridesmaid dress. I went…read moreto 2 places in Austin and the price just sounded ridiculous compared to what I paid for the dress. One bridesmaid suggested I drive down to her alteration place in San Marcos, Special Occasions. I called beforehand to verify their hours and said I would be coming in that weekend to try it on for a quote. The bride ended up coming with me because she had a few things to alter as well. The dress was way too big on me and too long. I was provided a very acceptable price and received friendly service. It was around thanksgiving and I was in no rush, so it was about 2 weeks before I could get back down there on a weekend. It was well worth the travel. I tried it on before I paid for it and noticed it was still a bit big in the waist, so she said she will fix it immediately if my friend and I wanted to grab lunch nearby. She stayed open past their closing time and called me back in about an hour. I didn't try it on again, I trusted her! And the dress fit me like a glove. I've worn it to 2 weddings now and even throughout washes everything stayed taught. Highly recommend this place.

The dress could possibly be from a past year or current, but the cool part is they have many off the rack dresses. They start at bridal size 6 and to me that was the best part. You wouldn't be able to order all of these in your size, you'd have to find it, but you'll also save a good bit of money and will be able to take the dress home right away. I found many size 6 dresses that fit perfectly, and chose 1 that same day. Highly recommend bestow if this is what you are looking for. Another person was complaining about making them wash their hands - they do that with everyone - it's important because the dress you try on and say no to is the same dress someone else will say yes to. I was looking for special occasion dresses to fit my vision: refined and not too run of the mill. If you are in the same boat then start at this boutique because I have found success with two beautiful dresses from here. I love the layout of the store. I have been to dress warehouses which get overwhelming. This is a smaller boutique with dresses arranged by size then by color. The staff greets you and gets an idea of what you are shopping for. When it's time for a fitting room they take your dresses and set them inside the curtain for you. They kindly offer to help zip you up and are very respectful, never did I feel uncomfortable. Outside of the fitting room is a catwalk with a big mirror. They have an alterations person if you need one but be mindful that prom season gets very busy. The sales are final but if the dress is right then you know that won't be a problem. People told me I looked like a princess in the dresses I got from here and they made me feel beautiful :)

Her attitude immediately felt cold and uninviting. As people of color, we couldn't help but notice that she appeared much friendlier and more attentive to other non-colored customers in the store. We looked around on our own and found a couple of dresses we liked. When I asked where we could try the dresses on, instead of walking us to the fitting rooms or offering assistance, she simply pointed and said, "there's people over there if you need help," without any effort to actually help us. Later, while my sister was trying on dresses, the employee spoke to us in a very rude and unfriendly tone, saying that she had to zip the dress herself. We completely understand store policies, but it was the way she said it that felt disrespectful. When I told her we didn't appreciate how she spoke to us, her response was that she didn't care. This situation was especially upsetting because this is my sister's first and last prom. She actually found a dress she liked, but the poor customer service made her feel so uncomfortable that she decided to leave without buying it. No one should feel unwelcome or treated differently while shopping, especially during such an important moment. Customer service makes a huge difference, and sadly, our experience at Z Couture did not reflect kindness, professionalism, or respect. I truly hope management takes situations like this seriously and works to ensure that all customers are treated equally and respectfully.
