I am terribly confused about the high marks given this restaurant. Since our experience was somewhat disquieting, given our expectations, we don't know whether 1) It was not a good day for the chef, or 2) expectations were unusually low among the other reviewers or 3) we happened to order the only items on the menu that were subpar. The restaurant itself was very inviting and comfortable, and the server was excellent. First came the bread, which was better than that offered by most Italian restaurants, and a house salad followed shortly thereafter. The salad was fine but, as a matter of personal taste, I would have loved it if some red onion had been added. The main problem was with the chicken piccata. I'm sorry, but the chicken in this dish is not to be char-grilled. That makes chicken breast dry and tough, as was the case here. Just check YouTube for the correct process; the chicken breast should be velvety, moist and flavorful. The other problem was the sauce, which was watery and flavorless, devoid of the lemony, buttery elegance that is the norm. Now, we very, very rarely send back a dish, but sorry, this one was unsalvageable. To get a sense of the more basic Italian offerings, I tried spaghetti and meatballs, which was decent, except for my being served only ONE not-very-large meatball! This, mind you, was ordered from the main menu and was not a lunch item. What could have happened here? The dish was acceptable otherwise, except the sauce was more acidic than robust, something that could have been helped longer cooking and/or the inclusion of some red wine in the recipe. I hope our experience was not the norm; there is much potential here, it would seem. read more

The food is exceptional, very delicious & well done! Omg THE BREAD! Everyone needs to try Bella's bread. My cheese ravioli is a pretty small portion for the price but still order every time. Servers are always super friendly & polite! The place feels cozy and I love the Italian music playing in the background. I literally feel I'm in Italy every time I visit here. We were in Tyler for three days on our way south. We ate the first night of our stay because we always try to find authentic Italian food in our travels.Bellas did not disappoint. My husband got the fra diavolo and I ordered eggplant parmesan. We started out with warm delicious bread. It was not long before our entree came out. For dessert we ordered tiramisu and a canoli. All the food was excellent, authentic, and just the right portion. The staff was very helpful and attentive. The food and experience was so good that we went back 2 nights later for pizza. Again excellent. Crust was thin and crispy. My only complaint was that they out of coffee both nights. Would recommend. If we are in the area, we will be back. read more

We got to Bella's at 8:20pm as it advertises it closes at 9 PM however, we were rudely told before we even sat down that the kitchen closed in 10 minutes and we would need to get our food in quickly. The server rushed us saying Well do you know what you want? She made us feel very unwelcome and we ended up just walking out and leaving clearly the business needs to advertise that they close at 8:30. The food was delicious!! I tried the chicken florentine and loved every bite! The house vinaigrette is really good too if you enjoy salads! My favorite was the tiramisu!!! Bella's interior is nice but could be much nicer if they put fresh flowers on the tables, lowered the lights, and had cloth napkins. Our server was very attentive and pleasant. The fried calamari with marinara sauce was great with the homemade bread knots. I had the supreme pizza and it was excellent especially the crisp crust. My hubby had the veal piccata that was very good and there was plenty to take home. Now for the best--the tiramisu was the BEST! Cannot wait to go back and try some other menu items. read more

We've dined here several times and the service is almost always good. Servers are always pleasant and knowledgeable with one exception. The food has always been good but the chicken parm is made differently than most restaurants. We finally tried a pizza - supreme. While it looked like a very good thin crust, it was so paper-tough and chewy that you couldn't eat the outer crust and trying to cut the pieces that were left uncut was almost impossible. The toppings and sauce were good, however, so maybe this dough was just overly "crusty" that day. read more

The chicken parm was just ok, the spaghetti with meat sauce tasted "sweet" ?!? Weird. The side salad, which was $3 a piece, was just like an iceberg bag salad, though fresh and the house Italian dressing was the best part of the meal. The rolls, which were free, were pretty good. This place is a gem! Tried it for the first time and was very impressed. Apps: We got the calamari and mozzarella sticks. The most disappointing part of the meal was the marinara that came with these was very very thin and would not stick when dipping. The calamari was cooked will, however the breading was a little airy for me and the mozzarella sticks were just your average mozzarella sticks. Next time I will try the stuffed mushrooms instead. I have heard great things about them. Entrees: The entrees were the highlight of the night. I got the tortellini alla panna which was great! This place is so amazing I went two days in a row when in town for a wedding. It is byob so we enjoyed wine with our meals. Food and service were good. Problem was when I got the credit card bill. The restaurant charged me for both the pre-tip and full payment amounts. My credit card insisted I call the restaurant for resolution. When I did call, it was the full run around. I was told that I did not understand my statement in that there would be a different amount for tip. And then I was told that I should have known there would be two separate charges and the 2nd was for the full tip. This was about the stupidest conversation that I have had in quite some time - I called b.s. and hung up. On to the credit card company to get the first charge back - and frankly should get both back for this pile of stupid going on over there. read more

This is the best Italian restaurant I've ever been to! It's obvious that the chef has a passion for the spectacular dishes that he creates. Everything from the dishes to the chef are authentic and wonderful. The chef makes the tiramisu in house, and it is phenomenal! The Mahi Mahi special was to die for, and the caprese appetizer was the best I've had. Every traditional dish that we shared was perfect. While traditional, each dish had a little something extra that made the dish unique and delicious. We live over an hour away, but will certainly make the trip to eat here often.
