The beef itself was so flavorful and tender, well seasoned, not to mention had the perfect amount in each item. Also, Onions and peppers on the side were cooked great and had me going back for more each time. Also, get the horchata, it was spectacular. This place is small but decorated to really feel like the owners, workers, really care and take pride in the establishment. It had a great ambiance that was full of people on a rainy lunch hour, and I can see why. My only qualm was that the rice was undercooked and slightly crunchy, but otherwise an affordable and tasty restaurant for a date night. Food: For drinks, we started with a couple of mojitos, a margarita, and a paloma. Everyone was happy with their orders. Really surprised by how good all the food was. We started with guacamole and chips and a salsa flight. The chips were hot, right out of the fryer. The guac was well seasoned and had excellent texture. The salsa flight was interesting and added a bit of fun to the start of the meal. For the meal, we had a couple of orders of sopes (one al pastor and the other vegan chorizo), a trio of tacos (shrimp, beef, and chicken), and I got the Birria Fajita. Everyone enjoyed their food, with one exception: the chicken taco was a bit spicier than expected. Someone else finished that off. The side order of beans was just okay, but the rice was excellent. Good texture, with a good balance of seasoning. Because it was a birthday, they provided a complimentary piece of chocoflan cake, which was the best I've ever had. The chocolate cake base really complements the custard texture of the flan. We also got an order of churros, which came out fresh and warm. Eating them with the side of vanilla ice cream was a real treat for the rest of us. Service: Started out great! Menus, drinks, water, and appetizers all arrived promptly. Given how few people were in the restaurant, it took a while for the food to arrive--45 minutes after we ordered. My meal was also missing the side of beans and rice. After I mentioned that and the server apologized, I still had to remind them that I was waiting. The sides arrived well past the point when they would have been enjoyable with my meal. The server apologized again, and they volunteered to comp our desserts. At least someone recognized that the service had fallen short. Atmosphere: For a Mexican restaurant, the interior design is refreshing. Not your typical loud colors with sombreros. It has a hip feel to it, with accents of lime green floor tiles, collections of small framed pictures, pink vinyl chair coverings, and white globe light fixtures. It might be a little jarring for some tastes, but I thought it all worked together. Really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. I hope the service we had isn't representative of what normally happens. The food was good enough that I would give it a second chance.

Great food all around. But this is my least favorite location. I put our name on the list for 2, we ended up waiting 2 hours because anytime someone would complain to the hostess she would seat them in front of us. While we were waiting a server spilled a basket of chips on the hostess station, he scooped them up into the basket and took them to the table. Not exactly the type of service I look for. The waitstaff seems very uninterested in what you ask for. I got a drink when we were sat and wasn't asked if I wanted a refill until we were packing up our leftovers. Trying to get a servers attention is very difficult. I would suggest trying a different location. read more

Ok, I really have to post this latest restaurant experience in photos at Belair Cantina Downer, which serves Mexican food. (posted photos on FB, don't know how to do it here). The area where we were seated was probably designated as a dumping ground or spill over for kitchen. Garbage was laying on the floor without any restaurant worker paying attention and waiters appropriated table right next to ours for collecting remnants of sauces from small serving dishes to tubs. It was disgusting:/ good thing we didn't need to go to the restroom! read more

Perhaps I am just getting old, but the atmosphere reminds me of an Abercombie store circa 1997. It's a little too loud and a little too obnoxious. Overall the food is pretty decent so I will go back, I'm sure. Sometimes the service is great sometimes it is not. They are usually pretty busy so I am inclined to cut them some slack there as the lack of service isn't from the lack of trying. Anyway, if you are 22 and simply want to Instagram your meal (not talk to the person you are with) this is probably a good spot for you. read more
