For what it's worth (as I haven't actually paid for any work from these guys), if anyone asked me for a great contractor I would recommend Before & After Construction! "Jen", you might ask, "how are you able to recommend anyone who hasn't done anything for you?"
Hector and the guys @ Before & After are fully worthy of 5 stars, and I can say this because I've seen their work, and I've had the pleasure of being "neighbors" with them. They've been working on a large project across the street from my own house, and I think everyone in the neighborhood agrees that they are friendly, always ready to help, and downright good guys (good neighbors?).
First off - Before I knew them at all (a couple months ago), I needed some assistance moving a gigantic piece of wood in my backyard (part of a pergola, to be exact). Desperate, tired, and upset, I wandered out to the front of my house. As fate would have it, the Before & After crew was loading up their trucks across the street after a long day on the job, about to go home. I'm sure they were tired and worn out. However, when I walked across the street and asked if they would help me out, and lift up this gigantic pergola piece onto the posts in my back yard, they were very gracious, kind, and generous with their time. They had 0 obligation to help me, but the entire group of them walked over to my house and brought ladders to assist me in my half-built pergola plight. They lifted that very heavy beam for me (it sounds a lot easier than it actually was), and saved the day (for free...or rather, all I had at the moment was a box of Coronas, so they all got a Corona). That's just really above and beyond the kind and neighborly thing to do. They could have said "Sorry Miss, we don't have time" or "We have another appointment!" or "That will cost $100" but they chose to help me, for no other motivation other than to assist someone who needed assistance.
Second - They have continued to be friendly in our repeated interactions. I pop over to the job site to say hi, and they are always welcoming and helpful if I need something. Again, going above and beyond what would be "neighborly". Moreover, I see them interacting with other neighbors! The entire neighborhood feels that these guys are stellar. That means a lot.
Third - I own an architectural and engineering design firm, so I get to see a lot of contractors and a lot of work performed (houses before, during, and after construction). Before and After's work is excellent! The house they are building on my block is beautiful, and the work they are doing on it has made a prior eyesore a real gem. This house required a complete gut job and interior/exterior remodeling. Everything from the stamped concrete to the interior finishes is very well done.
So yes, while I have not actually paid them for any work, I truly couldn't recommend a more friendly group of guys. And, just because I paid them for their neighborly help with a Corona because that's what I happened to have on me, that doesn't mean everyone reading this review can pay with Coronas as well! I'm sure their actual prices are very fair and competitive. Certainly worth, at least, a phone call for a quote. read more
