Beethoven roofing did such a wonderful timely job. His crew showed up early every day. The job was done in the timeframe that he said it would be. We had four bids on this job and his was the best. Our house is 100 years old with a red tile roof and they did a beautiful job . Mr. Saunders is very congenial man and easy to work with. what's not to love!! read more

You should hire Clay and his crew. End of story. Our house in South Berkeley has a parapet with a couple of downspout openings, as opposed to eaves & gutters. Common in this area, but hard to do right--some roofers won't even take on the work. But when I called Clay, there was no hesitation in his voice. He knew exactly what to do. Clay's pricing was on par with everyone else's; his expertise sold me. Clay gave me an honest estimate for his timeline--when he'd be able to start the job, and how long it would take to finish. In both cases he was a few days ahead of his estimate. Once he started the job, some cracks appeared in our living room ceiling. These weren't Clay's fault, but instead due to a structural flaw with our house. Built in the 1920s, our house has redwood joists that were spaced too far apart to support the weight of the lathe, plaster, and multiple layers of roofing material he uncovered during demo. I showed Clay the cracks, and he came up with a plan for this, too. He added a new joists, and sistered fresh lumber to the existing ones. This eased the weight on our ceiling, and made the whole roof stronger. He then had a great plaster / painting crew come in to repair the cracks, to the point we can't even see where they had been. We've now got a 25- to 30-year roof, no leaks, and a stronger structure, all thanks to Clay. I'd absolutely work with him again, and recommend him to anyone. He was honest, on-time, and produced truly quality work. Hire him! read more

As a musician, I love the fact that Beethoven's Gutter Works gives 6 percent of their profits to the Berkeley public school fund. They do roofing, dry rot repair and complete restorations as well. If only more businesses would do this, our public schools would be in a much better position! You can email Clay D. directly at beethovensgutterandroofing@gmail.com read more

We were having problems with our gutters and heard about Beethoveen's Gutter Works. The owner came out and gave an estimate for the repairs. The repairs were done well and on time. Another good thing about Beethoveen's Gutter Works is that they allocate 6% of their proceeds to the local education foundation to support music in public schools. It's nice because they actually write a check to the foundation to give to you to send in - so you know there's no funny business and the set-up is for real. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again or recommend them. They also repair windows and do handyman work, including dry rot. read more

In replacing my flat roof - the 3rd in 4 decades - finding someone local, reliable and knowledgeable was daunting. My brother in Seattle is a licensed project manager, & former roofer. He made calls, gave me 3 names. One never returned two calls; one didn't have the breadth of experience, couldn't address all my (coached by my brother) questions. Clay responded promptly, assessed the situation, had the breadth, depth & experience (and approval of said brother). Clay made recommendations, made sure I understood: e.g., he talked to me. My new roof is super-sealed, will have a longer life and reflects sun but isn't a glaring white that would disturb the neighbors. His hard-working crew was efficient, pleasant, & cleaned up. The finished product is pretty damn good-looking! One glitch: the 4 replacement skylights were an incorrect type but Clay was completely approachable and got it taken care of. And not only no leaks in a recent fierce storm, it's a quieter roof now, a bonus I hadn't expected. I do recommend Beethoven Roofing and Gutter Works! PS: Beethoven gives a small % of their invoice to music in schools programs. What's not to like? read more

We enjoyed working with Clay and his team very much. We originally hired them to clean the gutters. They explained some other work that needed to be done and came up with a project schedule that met our demands. Clay was professional and walked us through the entire process very clearly. He showed us pictures of the decaying roof and explained how he could fix it. The completed a full roofing restoration on our hot tar roof. Afterwards, he showed us pictures of the completed work. I also love that a portion of their proceeds go directly to the Berkeley Public School Fund and the music program. We will hire them again each year to continue maintaining our tar and gravel roof. read more

Thank you for doing a great job on replacing my moms flat roof! And for adding larger side drain, repairing inside ceiling leakage AND for keeping me updated with texts and photos of the roof and work progress since I live quite a distance from my elderly mom! read more

Clay and his crew replaced our entire flat roof in Albany. These guys did an excellent job. Every day they cleaned up so you didn't know any work was being done. A neighbor who knows something about roofs told me it was a very good job. read more

After having Clay renovate the roof on our north Berkeley home, I recommended Beethoven's to the Building and Facilities Committee of our church in Oakland, for a bid to replace the old flat roof, no longer fixable (we had tried patching) over a large office complex that is part of our facility. The Committee chose his bid because it was the lowest of three and was backed by my recommendation, and we are very pleased with the outcome. As was my experience before, Clay himself was often at the job; he provided us with photographic documentation of the progress; the work was finished on time and, as expected, the work quality appears to be very high. read more

Clay is prompt, reliable, professional, and man who knows his business. I highly recommend Clay and his team. They repaired my roof, fixed my gutters and did an all around great job. And: he was able to work around my schedule. Thank you Clay read more

Clay and his crew at Beethoven Roofing are the real deal. If you need your roof done, look no further. They redid my entire roof earlier this month. Everyone I interacted with was knowledgeable, respectful, skilled, and hard-working. They did what they said they'd do, and they did it on time. And no bait and switch on the pricing, either. I have an old house, with a complicated roof line. I've had it done three times in 15 years, and I think these guys - unlike those that came before them - got it right. It sure looks good. And I was home, watching. I have construction skills and experience, and I could see they knew what they were doing. Only rainy season will tell for sure, but that brings me to another thing: Clay is straight-forward, and very obviously a man of character and ethics. I have no doubt that in the unlikely event any problems arise come raining season, Clay will come out and make good. read more

Another well deserved 5 star review for Beethoven Roofing and Gutter Works. Clay and his crew just completed the installation of an entirely new roof on my 92 year old home and installed new screens on my gutters. As described in other reviews, Clay's attention to detail was meticulous from start to finish. From the initial inspection of the old roof, documented by photos taken to show me the level of wear and tear and problem areas, to the removal of the old roof, clean up of debris, and installation of the new roof, every phase was done in a professional, first-class manner. Every day, the crew left my property immaculate. At the end, when Clay stopped by to pick up the final payment, he handed me a check made out to the Berkeley Schools Music Dept. as his contribution in supporting music in the public schools. The rainy season ahead will be proof of the pudding, but I know that if there's a problem, Clay will not hesitate to come back and make it right. I couldn't be more satisfied at this point, with my decision to go with this company. It's not the cheapest, but well worth making the additional investment for the quality of the product. Thank you, Clay! read more

Clay did a great job restoring our flat roof. He was helpful and friendly every step of the way, really knows his stuff, and helped us understand more about our roof and how to care for it. He was also able to fit us in before the rains started! I'm so grateful, and it felt fantastic to send along a check to Berkeley Schools afterward. read more

Clay and his team restored my flat torched-down roof with silicon and the mortar to my Spanish tile ridge-line. He saved me about half the cost of what an entirely new roof would cost (which I just couldn't afford right now). He sent photos to show me the updates as I am out of town and was a great communicator. When I need a new roof, I will definitely call again - it's nice to know that a percentage of the proceeds go to supporting music programs in public schools! read more

We really like Clay and his Beethoven's Gutter Works. He has been doing gutter and downspout work for us for several years, and he is adept at window work and painting. We've had him working inside our home and his work is competent and fairly priced. He is truly a jack of all trades and, unlike some, is competent at whatever he tackles. We are also pleased that he allocates a percentage of what he is paid to a local education foundation. This has been a constant with him over the years and I appreciate it. read more

Clay and his crew did an excellent job from beginning to end. I had extensive dry rot that was unseen until they pulled everything off. One of the beams that extends out facing the ocean was in such bad shape I was really concerned, but Clay worked on it himself, removing the dry rot, hammering rods into the end of the beam to strengthen it, sealing it and then putting a metal sleeve over it to protect it and painted it to match the rest. Amazing! The roof looks great, all the extensive damage replaced and repaired. To top it off Clay wrote a check to the music department of my alma mater, Berkeley High School. I recommend Clay and his team with flying colors!! read more

Clay did an excellent job repairing my clay tile roof, not an easy job. He was professional, timely, extremely knowledgeable and great to work with. He educated me along the way -- taking photos and explaining what we were looking at-- on what needed to be repaired and why, so that I could make good decisions. I highly recommend him! read more

We just had our entire roof replaced after way too many years. Clay and his crew did a fantastic job, removing several layers of old roofing and a couple big tree branches that were resting on the roof peak. They fixed the damage caused by that, and replaced dry rotted understructure wherever they found it. They also took care of dry rot in the many exposed wood rafter tails we have. They look great again, and won't degrade anymore. All the work was done on time, actually a bit ahead of schedule, and the crew was very nice to work with. They did a thorough cleanup job afterward, could hardly tell they'd been there. Clay is very good at answering all our questions, explaining what will be needed, and how and why they'll do it. He then quoted a very reasonable price for the whole package - if you need a new roof, this is the place! read more

We were so pleased with Beethoven's Gutterworks and Roofing. Clay is a wonderfully skilled craftsman who has a deep appreciation for old houses and for water tightness! He was able to diagnose a problem that no other roofer could, and had the skills to fix both the roof and the delicate wooden area surrounding it (including rebuilding a small deck that was full of dry rot). Clay was also able to cover and secure an ugly area of siding that had been butchered with a previous roofing job that no one else would touch. He CUSTOM designed and built a quality watertight counter flashing out of wood that echoed the Victorian details of our 1906-era home and found the paint to match. His work was extremely high quality and authentic to the original style of the home. It was easy to communicate with Beethoven's and schedule the work, and we are grateful to Clay and his team for both their skills and work ethic. Further, at the end of the project, a portion of the proceeds went to funding music in the schools, which felt like a real bonus for having to fix our leaky roof. Five stars and two thumbs up! read more

Great service. Came in with lowest bid. Arrived on time. Was very thorough. I have difficult multi story house and they had no trouble. Even inspected roof. Will definitely use again. read more

I am very happy about the work Beethoven's Gutter has done on my roof. I called them in the middle of the current rainy season, and they were courteous, professional, and on time, and this is at the time when other companies refused to even provide an estimate due to frequent rains. They replaced a large furnace vent structure, including custom-making of flashing to correct poor original job. My roof is not leaking any more! read more

I am very grateful to Beethoven's Gutter Works for fitting me in for a time-consuming and complex undertaking during a very busy time. I had an urgent problem requiring removal of gutter, fascia, roof framing and rotted wood, treatment of all rafters to prevent dry rot, sistering in new rafter tails all along the length of my home. New framing a fascia wood and 35 feet of gutter were installed, and painted. Attention was given to aesthetics as well as highest quality materials and workmanship. Clay explained everything before, during and after. He finished on time. He and his team are polite and thoughtful. A plus is Clay's commitment to community: a portion of Beethoven's earnings are donated to Berkeley's public schools' music programs. read more

Clay was great! He and his crew did a great job on our gutters and a roof repair. Equally (and maybe more) importantly, he worked with a high level of integrity. He was honest, forthcoming with information and walked me through all the steps. After one part of the work ended up needing more than originally thought, Clay offered to honor his original estimate even though it was going to take more time. A lot of people do good work, not everybody operates with a high level of integrity. Final selling point? They give a donation to the Berkeley schools music program for each job! read more

Before deciding on Beethoven's Gutter Works and Roofing we got quotes from a few other companies. They would show up, climb onto the roof, and that's the last we'd see of them. A week later we'd get a quote, but there was no real communication. Clay, on the other hand, went up on the roof and documented everything with photos. He then proceeded to go over everything with us. We learned a lot talking with Clay. He's a craftsman who takes his job seriously and his commitment went beyond what we expected. During the project he noticed some very damaged siding that needed repair and replaced it with all new wood. This wasn't in our contract but it needed to be done, so Clay just took care of it. His foreman, David, even came out on a Sunday to go over a couple of questions we had. We're very happy with the job they did (entire roof replacement and new gutters). It was a pleasure working with Clay and his crew. We highly recommend Beethoven's Roofing and Gutterworks. read more
