Entrance to Beer Hound

Friendly greeting from the man behind the counter. The place was JAMMING on a recent Friday night with big crowd for karaoke. The crowd seemed very appreciative of those who sang and the music selection was something I enjoyed. It was loud though so we sat outside on the patio. The place is right across the street from the old train station and Culpepper Museum. Got the Czech lager and the English brown ale. Both were fine. Good vibe and atmosphere, and liked the outdoor seating option overlooking the old train station historic area downtown.

Super pup friendly.

A fantastic place to sip some wonderful beer with your pup in tow! We found this place on yelp and made an afternoon out of it. They've got a wonderful selection of creative and exciting beers, the food is also spectacular and most of all it is dog friendly. We had a blast and can't wait to go back.

Excellent place to spend time with your best friends and to meet cool people! The staff are super friendly, serving up bar food and a variety of locally brewed cold beer! We found Beer Hound Brewery on the Bring Fido app, we had a fun time with our pups! Check it out if you're nearby or just passing through, your dogs will thank you! Cheers!

Service was amazing and the environment was even better. The beers were really good. I loved seeing all the dogs with their therapy humans.

It's a good brewery! I love their concept. There is a small bag of peanuts you can take one for nimble! Also they have some food options.

Enjoyable pitstop on my recent trip to downtown Culpeper. Situated near the Amtrak, there seemed to be a good amount of different parking options available. The inside was open and inviting, easy to find a place to sit. I tried their two IPAs on tap and vastly enjoyed their Alpine. Since Culpeper was doing a Marti Gra celebration their special menu included a shrimp po'boy which was tasty; they even added a bit more sauce for me when I asked. The only downside is that their stickers were $4 which might be the most I've paid for brewery stickers since I started collecting them.

Staying overnight in Culpeper on our way to Charlottesville, we were looking for a place to get dinner and have a beer. Yelpers steered us toward Beer Hound Brewery, where we could experience the historic district of this charming town, as well as get some tasty beer and snacks. We were welcomed in by the bartenders who let us sample then pick our flights. We did flights of five: Wild Bill, Teddy, Tank, Declan, and Rosco Rye. Also: Tank, Zoeie, Declan, Rosco Rye, and Scottie. The Zoeie was my favorite, as it was a smooth black lager with dark roasted malts. Yum! We noshed on Toto's Tots (cheese, bacon, chives) and sausage pizza. Everything was very affordable and yummers. There were lots of dogs outside on the patio, as well as inside the brewery. It is Beer Hound, after all. We were invited to play trivia, but declined, yet asked to join after we crushed the first round without even competing. What a cute, charming and fun place to grab some beer and light fare. And enjoy trivia night and the company of man's best friend........lots of them.

We are such fans of independently owned breweries. Bartender was super-friendly and easily willing to share info about the beer and their names. We shared a flight of beer and order of soft pretzel sticks that came spicy mustard and cheese. We enjoyed it all. One of the owners was there ànd she was just as friendly and also willing to tell us more about the beer, small business ownership, etc. Can't beat the great combination of food, drink, and the people.

If you're from out of town and you're expecting rushed service and the immediacy of the big city, this might not be the place for you. But if you're looking for something truly special, slide up to the bar. Be patient...the bartender will be there as soon as they're done listening to Old Bill tell his story. Order a beer and a pizza and take a seat at one of their small tables. Enjoy and unhurried drink. And right about the time you're feeling like ordering a second beer, your hot, delicious, perfectly cooked pizza will be dropping out of the ceiling on a dumb waiter (yes, from the ceiling...you read that right). Smother it in locally made hot sauce (an unexpected plus), grab your second beer and enjoy that delicious pizza with someone you love, or the new friend you made at the table next to you. But for God's sake, be patient, be kind, be respectful. Cause you're likely visiting, and Far Gohn is all about the local vibe!!

The nice fall breeze was perfect with the gradual sunset that was happening at the same time this past Saturday evening. We took a lot of nice pictures here. BLACK BRIAR CIDER (PINT) - 9 This was pretty fruity and pleasant with blackberry notes. One of my friends had a sip and found it to be artificial, but I drank my cider pretty quickly and enjoyed it. You can taste the alcohol subtly, but not enough to make me gag. I'm not from the area so I wasn't aware, but the tax (sales + Culpeper County food & beverage) rate is 11.3% which is intense. Just an FYI if you're also not from the area and wondering why your bill is that high.

Unfortunately for us, the adults, we didn't enjoy the beers and food as much. Food was not it, we had the pulled pork nachos- the chip/pulled pork ratio was not good, barely any meat, flavor was ok-ish. And also ordered a hamburger because you can't go wrong with a hamburger- well we were wrong! The bread tasted stale and the patty was flavorless, the french fries were over salted, we took two bites and couldn't finish it. I had the peach cider which was pretty decent and my husband had a sour beer which he didn't like and another beer before we decided to call it a day. At least the kids had fun :)!

Very tasty burger with the grilled onions. The house-made chips are also good. My only complaint is the tiny "side salad" that I ordered. The interior gives upscale sports bar vibes. We chose a high top table toward the back of the restaurant. Our server ended up being the bartender too. They had $5 margaritas that night so I ordered one and we started with an order of their pierogies. There were four and they were served over a smear of their beer cheese. There were ok. I wanted more seasoning in the filling itself. It was pretty bland. For my entree I got their hot dog with chili and cheese with their housemade chips. I was pleasantly surprised to see a cheese sauce on the dog. It was pretty good. Some of the chips were pretty overcooked. The service brought this score down. I think the bartender was busy but plenty of servers were available. There was a lot of conversation at the bar. We probably should have just sat there. We missed out on drink refills, having our order taken promptly, and getting the check when we were ready to leave. Overall there were a lot of interesting things on the menu. I would want to return to see what else tasted good.

Gnarly Hops & Barley Fest is a craft beer festival held in Culpeper, VA. The 2015 Gnarly Hops &…read moreBarley Fest was my first visit to this event. It is recommended you pre-purchase your tickets online. There is a limited number of tickets. If there are any left the day of the event at the gate - they are priced at $35.00 per ticket (which is $10 more than they cost online). The tix are provided via EventBrite - so we used the EventBrite app on our iPhones to digitally present our tickets. We had to show ID at a tent outside the gate, then were given a blue wrist band, showed our tix to get in, and were then given a small beer glass with 10 tickets for beers. One tasting per ticket. The event runs from 12:00 noon to 6:00 pm. It was a cold, overcast day with a threat of rain - and yet the place was packed to the gills! There was a stage set up with live music, lots of food vendors, and over 30 breweries to sample from. We hit a number of breweries - and not all of them. Some we intentionally skipped for various reasons (Dogfish Head - we've drank many of their beers), Anheuser-Busch (NOT a craft brewery - EPIC FAIL! I don't classify Shock Top as a craft brewery - which I guess makes me a beer snob!) We sampled beers from Blue Mountain Brewery (Afton, VA); Schlafly Beer (St. Louis, MO); Devils Backbone Brewing Co. (Lexington, VA); South Street Brewery (Charlottesville, VA); Legend Brewing Co. (Richmond, VA); Wild Wolf Brewing Co. (Nellysford, VA); Apocalypse Ale Works (Forest, VA); Duclaw Brewing Co. (Baltimore, MD); and more... One thing that I will massively ding the event organizers on - is the availability of Don Jons. They were a total of 13 of them - and the line to use them was very long. It took 25 minutes of standing in line to get to the front of the line. They need to double or triple the amount of Dons Jons for future Gnarly Hops. With that many folks sucking down beer, it needs to go somewhere... fast... Great event, we had a fun time, just did not appreciate the standing in long lines to drain the beer...

Parking was a bit hectic, we ended up just paying a local church to park there around the block. I guess that is what we get for coming a little after opening.
