As soon as we walked in the door, my wife and I were instantly charmed by Far Gohn. We were on a…read moreweekend trip in Shenandoah for our anniversary and craving a cozy local spot for a pizza and a beer. Far Gohn hit it out of the park. Definitely a local tavern...they reminded me more of the pubs you find in a small European town or the UK. Warm, cozy, and inviting. We immediately felt at home. Now to the people who complain here that they were "ignored" by the bartenders or that service took forever...read: local spot. If you're from out of town and you're expecting rushed service and the immediacy of the big city, this might not be the place for you. But if you're looking for something truly special, slide up to the bar. Be patient...the bartender will be there as soon as they're done listening to Old Bill tell his story. Order a beer and a pizza and take a seat at one of their small tables. Enjoy and unhurried drink. And right about the time you're feeling like ordering a second beer, your hot, delicious, perfectly cooked pizza will be dropping out of the ceiling on a dumb waiter (yes, from the ceiling...you read that right). Smother it in locally made hot sauce (an unexpected plus), grab your second beer and enjoy that delicious pizza with someone you love, or the new friend you made at the table next to you. But for God's sake, be patient, be kind, be respectful. Cause you're likely visiting, and Far Gohn is all about the local vibe!!

I've been to Far Gohn a few times with friends and it's become a bit of a staple in the town…read more There's quite a few people who are regulars there and there's this unique vibe to the place that really makes it stand out from everywhere else. That being said, there's some issues with it that are hard to overlook. I'll start by saying that the staff are mostly really kind and professional. There have been one or two who looked like they hated their jobs, but everyone else has been attentive. There's not a whole lot of seating space available at this location. So, if you're trying to visit during peak hours, it might be a bit difficult. There's some outside seating available, but if it's raining or anything, it's not recommended. The chief problem I've had is with the pizza. Nevermind the fact a German style brewery is making pizzas - the pizzas themselves are an absolute hit or miss, with most of the time being misses. The pizzas are overpriced for how inconsistent the quality is. They're either just right or super crunchy and inedible. If you're ordering to-go, add 10-20 minutes to the wait time they give you and that's how long it'll actually take. If you're here for a decent brew, it's a decent brewery with a bit of a following in Culpeper and it's worth checking out. I'd steer clear of the pizzas.

The nice fall breeze was perfect with the gradual sunset that was happening at the same time this past Saturday evening. We took a lot of nice pictures here. BLACK BRIAR CIDER (PINT) - 9 This was pretty fruity and pleasant with blackberry notes. One of my friends had a sip and found it to be artificial, but I drank my cider pretty quickly and enjoyed it. You can taste the alcohol subtly, but not enough to make me gag. I'm not from the area so I wasn't aware, but the tax (sales + Culpeper County food & beverage) rate is 11.3% which is intense. Just an FYI if you're also not from the area and wondering why your bill is that high.

Wow we were blown away by the beautiful scenery surrounding this brewery…read more Can't beat a kid friendly brewery, lots of fun play structures for kids to keep them occupied for a few hours - a sand pit, a big wooden boat with slides, a bouncing castle etc. my kids had a blast! Unfortunately for us, the adults, we didn't enjoy the beers and food as much. Food was not it, we had the pulled pork nachos- the chip/pulled pork ratio was not good, barely any meat, flavor was ok-ish. And also ordered a hamburger because you can't go wrong with a hamburger- well we were wrong! The bread tasted stale and the patty was flavorless, the french fries were over salted, we took two bites and couldn't finish it. I had the peach cider which was pretty decent and my husband had a sour beer which he didn't like and another beer before we decided to call it a day. At least the kids had fun :)!

Great food and very reasonable prices for a touristy town. Service was efficient and adequate…read more I'm glad I had my seldom-eaten hamburger (patty melt) here because it was awesome! Very tasty burger with the grilled onions. The house-made chips are also good. My only complaint is the tiny "side salad" that I ordered. That it would be an upcharge with my burger but was charged $7 for the small salad. Server confirmed after questioning the bill.

The interior gives upscale sports bar vibes. We chose a high top table toward the back of the restaurant. Our server ended up being the bartender too. They had $5 margaritas that night so I ordered one and we started with an order of their pierogies. There were four and they were served over a smear of their beer cheese. There were ok. I wanted more seasoning in the filling itself. It was pretty bland. For my entree I got their hot dog with chili and cheese with their housemade chips. I was pleasantly surprised to see a cheese sauce on the dog. It was pretty good. Some of the chips were pretty overcooked. The service brought this score down. I think the bartender was busy but plenty of servers were available. There was a lot of conversation at the bar. We probably should have just sat there. We missed out on drink refills, having our order taken promptly, and getting the check when we were ready to leave. Overall there were a lot of interesting things on the menu. I would want to return to see what else tasted good.

My wife and I decided to take the trip out here from Alexandria for a nice weekend getaway…read more Oktoberfest was going on at the brewery and an apple festival and several other events were happening that weekend, so we weren't able to find lodging close by. However, we decided to still go down and just make it a day trip. I am glad we decided to still go down. Everything was amazing! The views, the wine, the beer, the food truck, and the people! If I could give our experience six stars I sure would! I had never had a wine flight before. Those mini wine glasses were super cute! I was told that this was their first yield of bottled wine since they planted their grapes a few years ago. For them to be new, it was fantastic wine! And then we had the Oktoberfest flight. All of the beers were crisp and had very distinct flavors. Their descriptions fit them all to a T! We were very pleased with both flights to say the least. Since it was Oktoberfest, they had pony rides (we just rubbed her and gave her a little love), a food truck, very nice decorations and live music. I'm glad we got to experience the first Oktoberfest fest there. It will not be out last time visiting. If you want to meet great people while sipping amazing beer and/or wine, do yourself a favor and visit this spot.
