We came to Payson for a few days to explore and thought we would try this out for breakfast because it had very good ratings on Yelp. We were sat immediately on a Tuesday around 10 AM, but had to ask to be 1 booth away from the next people. Then they ended up sitting someone in that table behind us and in front of us. They didn't use gloves, our server wore a mask, the hostess did not. The meal came very quickly but was so so - my husband had the #4 - pancakes eggs and bacon. The pancakes were dry. I had eggs and bacon came with hashbrowns that were very crispy and dry. Not the best breakfast but not the worst. They had excellent ice tea! And it's cash only. read more

First time at the Beeline Cafe. Passed it several times during Payson trips. Stopped in for breakfast on a Friday morning and it was 3/4 full. Lots of locals here. How could I tell? They all knew each other. The cafe was very rustic, with fishing, camping and grand parenting references everywhere. I ordered the Corned Beef Hash breakfast, which came with a loaf of hash, hash browns or skillet potatoes, two eggs and toast for $9.31 plus tip. Everything was cooked perfectly to order and the portions were a good value. I received excellent service, including the greeting, order taking and cash out process. They do have a cash only policy but have an ATM that incurs a $2.50 charge. I definitely noticed a cheerfulness throughout the restaurant. I felt like a local from the moment I walked in. My husband and I are restaurant people. We owned and 100% hands on ran our own small family breakfast and lunch restaurant for many many years. We opened every day at 6am sharp and closed at 3pm. We had a very small but highly dedicated crew of servers, bussers, dishwashers and prep cooks. Has to be one of the hardest businesses ever! We retired and live in Tucson now. Decided to take a short road trip up to Payson, Pine and Strawberry Wanted to go before it got so crowded with summer visitors. After spending a delightful night in Strawberry we wanted to find a small Mom and Pop diner to have an old fashion "home cooked" breakfast like we used to serve. Went on line and researched all that was available and decided to drive (back) into Payson and eat at the Beeline Cafe. What a great choice! The menu cover tells an amazing and heart warming story about the founders and how back in 1952 this husband and wife packed up their two very young boys and moved from Phoenix up to Payson to provide a more outdoor and quieter life for themselves and their sons. Hard to believe but the road from Phoenix to Payson back then was two lane and mostly rough, un-manicured dirt. The Cafe is still owned by family members. The staff are warm and welcoming. The food was served hot and tasty. Only two suggestions we would offer if asked... Serve a better quality bread Keep it vintage but slightly redecorate the dining room and bathroom to make things look fresher and more appealing. Otherwise- don't change a thing. We will absolutely return on our next visit! read more

Best home fries in AZ outside of Mat's Big Breakfast. The kind with fresh cut potatoes and peppers and onions sautéed brown. The green Chile omelet with home fries is my go to option for $8.75. Halleluja, COVID doesn't seem to exist in this cafe!!! At least you wouldn't think so by the complete disregard of wearing masks and distancing. My family walked in with our masks on to find not the host, nor the servers and cooks that we saw wore masks. Every booth and table was full of diners and weren't spaced at all. We quickly decided to go elsewhere and the host was very friendly and gracious about it. This review has no bearing on the quality of the food and service or anything else you would normally see in a review, but these aren't normal times. I'm writing this as a warning to anyone looking to follow basic guidelines to help prevent the spread of Covid-19. ONE STAR for the Beeline Cafe for putting their diners, employees, and their friends and families lives at risk. Not cool. Decided to try a local fave and I am glad we did. I ordered the biscuits and gravy, meat lover omelet and side of hash and side of sour dough toast. Food was ready upon arrival and the care was taken to make sure we had utensils and jelly. We took our order to go and it was packaged well. The omelet was fresh, delicious and paired well with the country potatoes . The potatoes were moist, savory and seasoned just right! Now fir the biscuits and gravy. Light and fluffy biscuits with homemade gravy which had chunks of sausage. The hash browns were crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. Overall I would definitely order from here again. Wonderful customer service and its local. NOW... went back for an early dinner with extended family. We had chopped steak, chicken sandwiches, turkey club sandwich, and the special which was the bbq ribs. Let me start by saying the fries were awesome!!! I had the chopped steak and had no complaints except I could do without the green beans next time and just ask for extra onions. The chicken sandwich was grilled and very moist. I live in Gilbert and have been here quite a few times. Has always been a fantastic experience! I love the ambiance and how the theme fitness the small town country atmosphere of Payson. Every meal I have had has been exceptional. Today, I tried the green chili omelette for the first time. If you like green chili, you are in for a treat! Not the biggest fan of green chili myself, but still a great meal. Make sure to get it with the home fries. They are some of the best I have ever had!! read more

Can only speak to their lunch menu, but briefly: check out Culver's first. Nothing that we had at Beeline wouldn't have been improved by going to Culver's. The $9.50 burger and chips would've had a larger patty and been less dry at Culver's, with fresher lettuce. (Burger and *fries* at Beeline is $10). Philly sandwich on a toasted French roll, served with Cole slaw ($12) had decent flavor, but was dry. Slaw was ok. Iced Tea ($3) was good, but since we walked in at 2:15 and Beeline closes up at 3:00, there was no tea left for refills and nothing else was offered. Service was diner-friendly and quick. As 3:00 approached, it became even quicker: offering to-go boxes, the removal of plates, and the delivery of the check. Beeline has a certain rustic charm that comes from highlighting the restaurant history on the menu, local newspaper articles and family photos on the walls, along with antique radios and a crank telephone. (The business phone is a real-life pay phone mounted on the wall behind the cashier counter.) There is one newer device: an ATM machine, it's presence announced - of necessity - with a large sign on the inner entry door and at multiple other places around the cashier counter..."CASH ONLY, ATM inside". The frustration of using a glitchy, third-party ATM, along with the $2.50 fee, is one more reason to give the local Culver's franchise a look first. read more

We were headed back down to the Valley from Happy Jack on a very busy Labor Day Monday. We decided to grab a bite. There was a lot going on when we went in. They quickly wiped a table down and sat us. Within moments we had waters. Shortly after, Cindy came and took our order. This day I went with a ham steak and eggs. My usual would be Chicken Fried Steak, which is what my Lady went with. We both prefer our hash browns crispy, and our eggs over medium. Both of us received just that. Perfect potatoes and eggs. My ham had a nice griddle fried look and texture. Her fried steak was also very good, and had plenty of yummy gravy. I have been ordering my hash browns crispy for a lifetime and they almost never come that way. So much so, that I don't even say anything. I just lower my expectations and move on. When we take our $$ to a business we should get a meal that someone gave a damn about when they prepare and plate it. These Folks did just that. They served us great food with great smiles! They were very busy so we appreciated it even more! If we decide to take the Payson route in lieu of the I-17 we normally take, we will most definitely consider this little gem! read more

Decent diner type place with some sassy servers and good food at reasonable prices. We had fried chicken that was pretty good. Could have been cooked a bit more. But excellent green beans with bacon, and home made mashed potatoes and gravy. Beef sandwich with mashed eas also good. Everything could have used a bit more salt and flavoring, but pretty good nonetheless and easy to add. We did not get one but lots of the locals had milkshakes and they sure looked good. When driving through Payson and you pass the Beeline Café and think, "I bet they have great pie" you might be right. The Blackberry pie was a pretty decent looking slice although it was baked in a small pie tin, resulting in small slice. It was dense and had great flavor although the blackberry seeds were the only evidence of fresh blackberries. I doubt they were. Dessert 1st is encouraged here. I had the lasagna special it came with a small house salad that was cool and crisp with a great bleu cheese dressing. The lasagna itself was delicious with nice chunks of ground beef and Italian sausage, a great sauce and just enough cheese, but wait... it was $6.50 and an amazing lunch bargain. The French dip $7.50 and a loaded burger $8.00 got high marks from my hungry hiker friends. Service was just fine and on mark for this uber casual local diner till we wanted to pay!!! YIKES!!! no credit cards!!! so off to the atm and my bargain lunch went up in price by an additional $2.75 service fee. We didn't see the sign, but if your bringing your grandparents you would be in luck cause they do take checks. Bring the kids and the folks but its small and busy so expect a wait in primetimes. read more

I rarely post negative reviews, but Oy! The scrambled eggs were severely over-cooked...Lots of brown instead of yellow eggs. The hashbrowns were more like hashwhites...Very under-cooked. And, the biscuits & gravy had no flavor. The tab without a drink, including tax & tip, was $15.00 for not good food. (I tipped 20% because the waitress didn't cook the food.) Coffee - weak in dirty cups. Omelets- flat - showing chef just laid the scrambled eggs on an oily flat top, and toast that was hard as rock - crunchy!
