It's early evening and the quest of the day is a burger. My standby burger joint has recently had a significant upswing in the number of smokers at the bar (don't even get me started), so it was time for a change of venue. First of all, it's pretty divey. Not the kind of divey where you think you might end up with communicable diseases, but it definitely has an edgy vibe to it where you know it has loyal followers and a whole group of people who has no idea it exists. There's only about 15 seats in the whole place, so we should all hope it stays that way. The menu is simple: burgers, dogs, fries. There's a couple beers on tap and a nice selection of bottled. Happy hour for a couple hours in the middle of the day where you can get some sweet discounts. To give you an idea of my appreciation for Beefy's, the first time I came here was two weeks ago. I've been back twice since, each time bringing more people with me. Anthony has been our server each time and he's fantastic, recognizes people who come back and make them feel special. If errors happen, he's quick to take care of it. The entire staff is obviously concerned that you enjoy your experience and that you have a delicious beefy burger (or my new go-to is the chicken patty, however it's just a tad over-fried for my taste). As an FYI, their hours change a bit based on the season. For example, right now they're only open until 7pm, but they mentioned they might increase their hours again once the weather warms up a bit. read more

4.5 rounded up. My BFF has been RAVING about Beefy's for many months now, and we finally made it in to give a try to these burgers that, according to many, are the best in town. It was a perfect day for a lunchtime visit, and we snagged a nice seat at the blackjack table. The service was exceptional, and we soon had our orders in, drinks in hand, and a newspaper open in front of us. The first item to arrive was the Maple and Bacon Milkshake. I've never had such a milkshake, but the server assured us that it was amazing, and you know what? He was RIGHT. Holy God. A masterpiece. I was worried that the maple would be too sweet, but it was perfect, and the little bacon bits slurping up through the straw? Magical. I had the chili burger because I was intrigued by the fact that they made their chili in-house, and I was glad I did. That is some tasty chili! I'm not really an expert on this particular food group, but I'm pretty sure this could be classified as "Cincinnati-style" chili? I definitely could taste hints of cinnamon. Maybe I'm totally off-base there, but either way, it was delicious. The one big disappointment was that my burger was overcooked. I ordered it medium rare, but there was barely a hint of pink in my patty. I hope that was just a fluke, as otherwise this was a great meal. Fries were crispy on the outside and soft in the inside...perfect. Overall, I cannot drop a "best burger" label on Beefy's. If I was rating it on the burger alone, I would definitely put it at four stars; it was just too small and too overcooked for my taste. However, the service, the shake, and the chili were all great enough that I am willing to round up to five stars--we will definitely be back. read more

I'm sure there is a hit and miss aspect to a mom and pop type place. HOWEVER. I'm reading the negative reviews, and I had NONE of the issues they had. We showed up the last 45mins they were open - they still where friendly as hell. The cook came out to tell us that they can custom ANYTHING on the menu. They could make up anything like a secret menu: If you wanted melted cheese and pepperoni on the fries to make "pizza fries" that he could do it. You want fried mushrooms. He could do it. Just ask for what you want. We had hot dogs. One fried, one grilled. Both were perfectly cooked, the buns were perfectly toasted. While he was cooking, the cook came out and asked: "do you guys want grilled onions instead of raw on your hot dogs?" HELL YEAH! Boom. Guy had it done in NO time. All of it was freshly cooked and nothing seemed left out or old in ANY way. The menu is pretty easy going. They had burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, Milkshakes, chicken wings. Then you could custom anything anyway. Mushrooms or cheeses just the start. Grilled cheese with avocado and chillies? YEAH they have it. Also a VERY big selection of beer for a small place. They even have great basin beers! As well as Ace hard cider. We WILL be back. The people who worked there were busting each other's chops and joking around while still talking to the people who were there. Nothing seemed like it was more important, than just BEING in the moment with the people who were there. It's affordable if you keep it simple. We had hotdogs, drinks and fries for UNDER 15 bucks. I'm sure if we had milkshakes and picked avocado and extras on an already 7 buck burger it's to be expected that it'd go that much over 25 bucks! I'd give it just 4 stars, but honestly you can't just have good food and be cool and be ready to give us whatever we want when you expect to close in under and hour and NOT get respect for that. OH ALSO: THEY TAKE CREDIT CARDS! I don't know if they hadn't set up their system when everyone is saying they don't... But they sure as hell do. read more

My husband and I live in Midtown, literally two blocks from Beefy's. We watched it transform from Conscious Cuisine as they worked on it all summer. It is an awesome, throwback style food counter with a modern flair, and it's a wonderful addition to Midtown! Not only is the food yummy, the atmosphere is warm and homey. The interior is clean and beautifully decorated with a western "cattle rustler" motif. I had a mushroom and Swiss burger with carmelized onions. Between the hearty, perfectly cooked burger and tasty homemade bun, I was happy, but add the cheese, 'shrooms, and onions and I was in heaven! My husband had the Vaquero and we shared an order of fresh-cut zucchini fries that came with this insane "Round Up Dip" that really topped it all off. The prices are reasonable and the service is friendly (ask owner Cindy about her cattle farming background). The whole menu sounds great and I can't wait to go back and try the hot dogs next! New owners and they definitely deserve an updated review! The new owners are friendly and the vibe shows that. Our burger was fresh, cooked medium as requested and often hard to come by. We tried a burger with a fried egg, and the egg was perfectly cooked right along with the burger. Bun was soft and warm. Fries, while very good I just wish they were crispier, the potatoes are clearly fresh which makes crispy fries difficult if you are not doing a double fry method. But they had a good flavor, the garlic was a little light and tossing them in a garlic oil would be a good option. The chocolate malt was quite tasty, even though my malt loving companion would have preferred a more pronounced malt flavor (that is all him they could have dumped three more scoops in and he would have liked more) all in all great food , great service open later than 2 which is nice! read more

Beefy's = yummy! I had never heard of Beefy's until yesterday even though I've probably driven past it hundreds of times. Yesterday the owner, Roy came into my work and he was so nice. I told him that my fiancé and I were going to eat dinner there last night. Right when you enter the door into this small little "diner" you can tell that the burgers are going to be delicious. We met Stella, who was an absolute doll. She informed us that Roy had told her that we were coming in and that our meal would be 25% off. What a nice and thoughtful gesture and it was most appreciated. I ordered the Kansas City Burger, and my partner ordered the chili cheese dog. You know it's a good burger if you have to grab a napkin after each bite to wipe your face and hands. The fries were just as good, and the portions are generous and very reasonably priced. Best burger in Reno, hands down. I've gone through the Awful Awful stage and every burger on the menu here is superior. My wife and I have been in 6 times and I'm trying to work my way through all of the menu options. So far, the chili burger is my favorite, my wife loves the onion burger. I've really only tried the hot dogs here, but I love them. They are not the usual hot dogs, but much larger around. They will also bacon-wrap them and deep fry them if you like. I tried the habanero hot dog today (I think it's called the Diabolical Dog) and it was excellent. The habanero sauce is hot and tasty, plus there were 2 freshly grilled habaneros as garnish and they tasted excellent also (a nice compliment to the dish). New to town and in search of our next "go to" burger spot that isn't In N' Out. The staff here are very outgoing. Hubby and I ordered the Onion and Kansas City burgers, wings, fries, and deep fried Oreos. Burgers were tasty and cooked like we ordered them. Not a huge fan of the BBQ sauce, but the burger was still good. Wings were also cooked well. The fries on the other hand were basically inedible. I believe they use some sort of season salt on them, which is great in normal amounts. WAY TOO SALTY. Beware and ask for light salt. We came here last night for the first time. We heard it was cash only, so we got actual cash out of the bank and headed over. It is small inside, but that just makes it cozy! Everyone was friendly and welcoming. They had a shrimp po boy on special, so I got that and my husband got a Nevada burger with bacon. And onion rings. And hot wings. I asked about the cash only, and they said that they are the new owners, and that they have stepped into the future and now accept credit cards! Thank goodness, because I rarely have cash. We got our food and it was. .... wonderful. The wings were amazing. We had the garlic sauce, and it was so good, I used the extra sauce to dip my fries. The onion rings looked homemade, and the burger was perfection. My only complaint was that there wasn't a whole lot of shrimp on my po boy. What was on there was very good, but I wanted a bit more. I've eaten at Beefy's three times now. For me, the burgers are okay. The 50 cent chicken wings on Wednesday is what I like best. I ate at Beefy's shortly after it opened. I don't remember what I had, but I thought it was just okay. A month or sho ago I was watching a show with Anthony Bourdain eating a Korean-influenced burger in New York. I got the hankering for any burger and decided to try Beefy's again. By coincidence they had one on the menu so I ordered it. I had an excellent Korean-flavored burger at Bachi Burger in Las Vegas. The Beefy's version didn't do much for me. They have a Korean paste and kim chi but nothing stood out as especially flavorful. I did get their wings and they were tasty. Large and distinctive. I was in the neighborhood yesterday and decided to try something else on the menu. This time I got the chili burger. Ordering something with chili here can be risky, since Beefy's is located in what used to be Landrum's, where I ate many of the hallowed chili-cheese omelets. I didn't like the flavor of the chili. It tasted overcooked, almost burned, and old. Not much zing to it. Service is always friendly here. read more

Killer burgers and sandwiches made with meat mostly sourced from local butchers. Serious care put into everything from the fries to the sauces. Cooks take pride in what they concoct and, if you're on the fence about what to order, will gladly share their passionate two (or more) cents. Even the cheese steak--an eyebrow raising menu item west of Pennsylvania--exceeds expectations. And finally, the BEER. The owner Roy is at least as much of a connoisseur of fine ales as he is of straight up awesome "burger joint" cuisine. While the thought of only two taps may not tantalize the average brew-seeker, but rest assured that whatever he has flowing through either of them is worth twenty taps at your favorite restaurant. Imperial stouts, triple IPAs, Belgian-style strong ales, and often kegs that are hard--if not impossible--to find not just in Reno but anywhere. If you've never been to Reno and you need to go have an Awful-Awful, that's understandable; but you do it properly and wait till 2am to soak up your night. My wife and I came here on a Saturday afternoon with our dog. Though it was pretty hot out that day, we sat outside because our dog was with us. The very nice lady brought out a water dish for him before asking if we wanted to come sit inside instead since no one else was there. It was very nice of her to let us bring him inside. She even offered him some ice cream (it was his birthday). The food was delicious! I had a bleu cheese burger and my wife had a plain burger and we shared an order of fries. They source their meat from local butchers so you know it's quality. The fries were incredible, but I was upset because I was so full I couldn't finish them all. The beer selection is on point as well. Some Sierra Nevada brews along with lots of other local craft brews to satisfy your cravings. If you become overwhelmed by the choices, just ask and they'll help you decide on one you'll like. I can't remember the name of the beer I had, but it was great and complimented the burger very well. Will definitely be coming back. But we'll probably leave our pooch at home next time. Don't need him begging with his puppy eyes and stealing all of our fries. read more

We did a 1/2 & 1/2 order of fries & onion rings & a couple Double Trouble DIPA's (these r heavy btw) The place is tiny af (the restroom is as big if not bigger than the restaurant) but this place is the bomb! We have been coming to Beefy's for years. Not sure if the quality changed due to rising prices or was everybody drunk like the guy that took our order. Ordered our usual burgers, 2 baskets of fries and chili cheese fries. Guy that took our order reeked of alcohol, he was slurring the whole time, kept repeating him self and barely was able to take an order for 5. Had to repeat it multiple times. Fine, I could care less about his drinking, we were there for burgers. Ordered medium cooked for everybody, got well done and then some. The patties were overcooked, dry and nasty. this is the first time out of probably a 100+ times we ate there, that none of us, not even my kids, finished the burgers. Spoke to people that were sitting next to us and they said the same thing, this is not Beefy's we know. 3 stars for years of good burgers. I'm hoping that bad quality was a cause of staff having few more drinks than they should while working and decline in quality. read more

I remember going to this little diner when it was Landrums for the best hangover curing chili cheese omelet in town. Today I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. The cheeseburger is cooked to order and was well flavored and juicy. The party was thick and they put a slice and a half of cheese on it. The fries seemed to be fresh cut and were delicious.
