Took 2 photography studio lamps to Beechwold; they fixed both of them for a very fair price. One of the photography lamps was somewhat of a difficult lamp part to repair, however, charges were very fair. Will use them again! read more

This place is amazing. I just bought my first home, which was built in the early 1940's, and it needs quite a bit of renovation. For any hardware item I've needed, I've come here because of the tremendous amount of help I get whenever I'm looking for something. I'm not incredibly handy, and I usually don't know what I need until someone in the store tells me, but it makes me incredibly happy to be able to go somewhere and not feel rushed to try explaining what I need or belittled that I don't know what size frost-free spigot I need to replace my old one. It's hard to explain if you haven't been to a place like this, but it makes you feel like home. I hate going to hardware stores, but I could spend hours in this place because of how comfortable it feels. read more

I've lived three blocks from Beechwold Ace for more than ten years. I have an older house and they rarely fail to have what I need, whether it's a plumbing part, a quart of paint or a bag of mulch. They also rent tools, which has come in handy more than once. The knowledgable staff is always helpful, even with small inexpensive items. With this great resource around the corner I rarely vist the big box stores, and when I do I am usually disappointed. I also feel that the quality of the hardware is better at Ace stores. Yes, the big box stores are larger and have ten different types of what you do and more of what you don't need. But so does Beechwold Hardware. For a small hardware they have literally everything you can imagine, and if they don't, they will call around and find you a place that does. These are the most helpful, knowledgeable, and just genuinely friendly people. Just tonight I came in, ten minutes before they were set to close looking for a replacement spark plug for my mower. Not only was someone immediately available and able to help me find the right one, they even took the time to look up my obscure brand and find me a perfect fit. I'm the kind of person that likes to shop around, and let me tell you, their prices are VERY reasonable, better than the big box stores in most cases. Need a new garbage disposal? I checked Amazon, Home Depot, Lowes, Andersons, Sears, and you know what? Beechwold hardware had the lowest price on their Ace branded Insinkerator. Plus, I've noticed that they have a generally larger selection in terms of what you actually need. This store has never let me down, nomatter what I'm looking for. read more

Admittedly, I know very little about tools and home improvement in general. As a result, I love this hardware store conveniently located very close to my house. I can be as naive/ignorant/uneducated as I want, because the trustyworthy salespeople at this store will guide me the right way. Plus it's a family owned local store! This is my favorite hardware store. First off, it's near my house, but even if location isn't everything, they have a great selection of the things I need for home projects, parking is convenient, there's always somebody who knows what they're doing who can help, prices are competitive, and they trust and believe in their customers. There have been times I've gone there for a tool I would use only once and they've just let me borrow one that the store already has open. While they don't have 50,000 square feet of space for 100 faucets or 50 toilets, they have access to anything from ACE and can usually have it in store by Thursday. read more

This place is still really amazing! I went in a few days ago to get some nuts and bolts for finish putting together a cat tower for my kitten. The employees were super helpful and one even told me that if what I had didn't work to come right back and bring the cat toy with me and they would help me put it together! They even have lumber! We needed a 4x4 cut to length, and Lowe's couldn't do it. We thought Beechwold Hardware was a long shot for lumber, but not only do they sell it, they can cut it. We already loved them, now we love them even more. read more

There is something to be said for modern hardware stores.. OK, let's stick with their preferred "home improvement" branding approach, but Beechwold Hardware has them easily beat if you are maintaining a home built between WWII and when lead was removed from paint. Beechwold Hardware did not start with a two-acre concrete slab, so yes, its layout may seem a little disjointed when you can't see a big header sign for every isle as you enter. The thing is, within those nooks and crannies are many parts that can't be found at most other hardware stores. There is no slab store that covers seven decades of home building. I still have to drop a star because I find I need the larger, modern hardware stores for the wider tool selection and lumber. Roush Hardware in Westerville comes close to the Beechwold niche hardware benchmark, but Beechwold is my #1. read more

Friendly, and have a surprisingly great selection. More than a few times I've started at Home Depot or Lowe's where I have the same experience: you can't find anyone to help you, then they don't have what you need in their 85 aisles anyway. "This Old House" has nothing on Malcolm for phone advice this Saturday...when new refrigerator arrived & delivery guys were puzzled by swinging door hardware that needed to come out for clearance! This is my go to place if I need advice on all kinds of things, from hardware replacement to toilet repair to faucet replacement. All of the employees are very helpful and will spend lots of time with you to help solve your current issue. My husband told me to go to Beechwold first, but no I had to go to big box hardware stores for better selection, but nobody to help you. Do not be lead astray. If you have a repair diy problem go to Beechwold. They will give you great advice and help you. I have spend 15-30 minutes talking to employees there and they almost always can help me understand how to fix my problem. I sometimes get a part that costs $1-2 or a faucet replacement that was $15-20. It is truly what a hardware store should be. I am so glad it is there. read more

I just spent two weeks in Clintonville, helping my daughter get set up in a new house that is one mile away from Beechwold Hardware. I went to the store 12 times and I have to say that Beechwold might be my favorite store of all-time! I have never been really handy and usually struggle or need assistance with even the simplest home projects. But, the staff at Beechwold made my life and job completion efforts so much easier by offering their advice on products and guidance on how to do it. I bought stuff ranging from screws and anchors to a 50 pint dehumidifier. They have just about everything you would ever need and if the item is not in stock, they will likely be able to order it. And, their prices are very competitive with Home Depot and Lowe's - and the service beats the big box stores like a drum. My 18 year old daughter just moved to Columbus and into her first apartment by herself. We needed to figure out how to create a corner rod for hanging clothes. Malcolm helped us and had the PERFECT idea on how to custom make it. He is the nicest, most helpful person we met in Columbus!! He also sent us to a fantastic auto mechanic. You can take all your giant conglomerate hardware stores and put them in a race and none of them will come out ahead of Beechwold Ace Hardware in terms of service, knowledge, expertise, and courtesy. Going into this eclectically laid out store reminds me of going into an old country store where it just feels good to be there. I have an old desk lamp that I've had since I was in college. The switch on the lamp finally conked out on me and I was dismayed, as I couldn't figure out how to repair it. I called Beechwold and asked if they do repairs on anything like that. The young man who answer, very cordially said, "Bring it in. We'll take a look at and see what we can do" I took it in and was greeted with smile by the cashier who instructed me where to take it. The man who repaired it went to work on it immediately. Another young man whom I took to be the owner's son came over and suggested the exact kind of switch the lamp needed and went and got it. The staff member who worked on the lamp worked diligently for over 45 minutes taking it apart, repairing and reassembling it When I said to him that I've had it since I was in college he smiled and said "Well,, in that case we're just going to have to get it right, then - okay" I told him that it was not very valuable but since I've had it since college it has sentimental value to me to which he replied "Then it's priceless!" and continued to work on it. This family-operated store is simply great. I was courteously helped here twice (got a duplicate key once and rented a carpet cleaner the other time) and no-nonsense fast. Being from outside the US, I could not provide the standard drivers license the clerk was used to, but the "store tech", after giving me the quick look-down, just let me rent it anyway. Try this in any "real" chain. Sure, it looks a bit old, and many long-time customers take their time having a chat. Yet, this is a place that lets me see what american entrepreneurship can be; a welcome contrast to chain-operated McWhatver stores that pretty much define the shop scenery for me as a foreigner. read more

I love this place! The service is reminiscent of "back in the day" when stores knew how to treat their customers. Besides that, the store has great character including old hardwood floors and a slightly skewed look to everything. The guys who work there couldn't be more helpful and kind, sorta like long lost Uncles. It's Nirvana for someone like me who doesn't know a nail from a screw. While I'd like to give Beechwold Hardware credit for sticking it out in such a decrepit old store, the peeling white paint that covers the walls makes this place feel more like a neglected prison than it does a hardware store. Add in the most intense fluorescent lighting and a nonsensical floor-plan and you've got yourself one hell of a shopping experience right here. The goods that are on display here aren't cluttered, per se, but finding what you're looking for is not exactly a breeze. Fortunately there were two incredibly enthusiastic girls that looked like they were high school aged when I walked in looking for a special kind of wrench to use to work on my bike, both of whom were more than happy to personally escort me to where the wrenches were kept. Unfortunately, neither of them knew much about tools at all. Can't blame them, I suppose, as most of the girls I hung out with when I was 16 had not the slightest clue as to operate even a screwdriver without assistance. I'd like to believe there was someone more experienced and knowledgeable hiding in the wing somewhere- this is an Ace store, after all- but they were sadly nowhere to be found. With all the little nooks and crannies that one could get lost in, I didn't find this the least bit surprising. If you're a regular and know exactly what you're looking for, I'm certain you could get in and out in a breeze, but being an outsider made my trip to Beechwold Hardware nothing more than a fruitless headache. read more

As others have said, customer service is off the charts. Yes, the price on any given item is more than at the big box store, but the differences here are (1) you are far more likely to end up with exactly the right part in the first place rather than going back and forth a few times and (2) frequently they can help you find the minimum you need to solve your problem -- which is a lot cheaper than buying pieces elsewhere and hoping for the best. To be fair, the big box stores do have a lot more selection of common items -- if you are looking for, say, a particular type of light bulb, the big box place has huge aisles of different styles. But I find myself coming back to Beechwold more and more frequently because I'm in and out fast with the right solution every time. read more

The store is very disorganized, the selection on some basic things is limited and the guy who "helped me" find what I needed was unfriendly and abrupt to the point that I considered not making a purchase at all. read more

I can't think of a better local hardware store. They staff are friendly and helpful and the store holds a lot more than you would figure from looking at it from the street. If they can't help you, they will tell you where to find what you need - even if it is the hardware store down the street.
