Really wanted to give Beech a 3.5. Venue is great, many dining spaces, something for everyone. Confusing when making a reservation if you do not know where the spaces are. Very friendly greeting and service at hostess stand (we had to wait for our table 15 min but no problem, they were on it). Waitress was just ok, good enough but not attentive and we had long waits before she reappeared. Food was average. Zucchini chips were a surprise hit, very lightly fried (and I usually don't do anything fried), dip with it was very good. Caesar salads were generously sized and crunchy good, dressing solid. For entrees our table had 2 baked cod, both were good but the portion of cod was very small in comparison with the potatoes underneath. Our table had one of the specials which was pasta bolognese. For $37 it was a major disappointment, small size for a pasta entree, average taste. May want to enquire as what the price point is on any pasta special. Last entree was the Tuna. Nice portion size but didn't get it rare as ordered, it was med so for me that ruined it. The beans and broccoli rabe were so salty underneath I took half of it home. Not sure I will eat it. Sadly disappointed in overall meal experience. A shout out to our bread, water girl who was fabulous! I really wish we got her name. She was at our table whenever we needed anything and had a bubbly personality that made our evening fun. Side note to anyone coming from Newport: for years we would take the ferry from Perrotti Park to Jamestown. That ferry is not operating as it used to and the price is double what it was in the last few years. They swept us into a bright, window-wrapped room so cheerful it practically hugged us. Turns out they'd lost power earlier that day. LOST POWER. You wouldn't have known it. These people were cooler than the other side of the pillow. Now. The food. Oh, the FOOD. I got the steak with puréed pomme, asparagus, and carrots, and I need you to understand -- this thing had a sear on it that made me want to stand up and applaud. The sauce? Somebody's grandmother's secret recipe dipped in liquid gold. It melted in my mouth so fast I briefly forgot my own name. My wife had to remind me we were in public. Speaking of my wife -- she ordered the Tortellacci. Stuffed pasta, porcini mushrooms, ricotta, limoncello cream sauce, white truffle shavings. She took one bite and just stared at me. No words. Just stared. That's how you know it was BANANAS. In the best possible way. The rolls came out hot and fresh, which is honestly its own love language. Our water and bread gal? Sunshine in human form. Smiling, attentive, welcoming -- the kind of person who makes you feel like a guest, not a table number. The food was tough, literally. The menu lists a NY Strip, but what's served is sirloin. That kind of bait-and-switch sets the tone: a place that promises high-end but delivers cafeteria quality. The manager admitted it's a known issue they hear often. The mussels are out of the shell, which is usually a sign they're not fresh. Canned seafood in New England is blasphemous. We ate here twice in one day. First my wife and I dropped in simply because it was close to the harbor, where we stopped after touring Beavertail State Park. The harbor and adjacent beach offer views of the toll bridge that traverses the passage between Jamestown and Newport. Little did we know Beech would impress to the point of coming back that evening with 3 other adults and a toddler for dinner. In the early afternoon we ordered a couple of excellent cocktails, a half-dozen oysters, properly dressed with a side of lemon, mignonette, and horseradish spiked cocktail sauce, along with a Caesar salad with shrimp. All were so good we ordered another half-dozen oysters and a single additional cocktail that we shared. At dinner we were further impressed with assorted appetizers, which included more oysters, the fried calamari, and the sticky ribs, which are fantastic and a must to order. Main courses included the Beech Burger made of a blend of short ribs and brisket (this is no ordinary burger, which is accompanied by an excellent side of fries, and is highly recommended), the Atlantic Salmon, and the Fish & Chips. More cocktails were also sampled. Everything that was brought to our table was excellent and served with efficiency and friendliness. We went here around 8 pm. It was very busy but not crowded. We didn't know that we were supposed to make a reservation but the hostess was very sweet and she still gave us a table. Due to the classy upscale vibe of the restaurant we felt very out of place, but the waiter and other patrons made us feel very welcomed. Our appetizers and food came out quickly. We dined at Beech last night with a large group of visiting boaters. They gave us two large tables in the outside dining area. Service for this large group was good. Food was OK; I ordered the pasta special which was $36 for a very small portion of pasta! Disappointing! Wine was expensive, $18/glass! We were not offered coffee or dessert at the end of the meal, instead we were asked to leave as we were told there was another large group scheduled for this table. I felt this was very rude...this is not how you treat a large group of out-of-town visitors to your restaurant. I am not sure any will want to visit Beech again! We were visiting the area and walked by this very unique looking restaurant and decided to give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was Top Notch but not overly priced. We tried their highly recommended chicken sandwich and were not disappointed. The food came out quickly and our servers were all very friendly. So disappointed. We ate at Beech in August 2025 and it was certainly 5 stars. Today, May 17 2026 not so much. Very limited menu, unlike August. No raw bar. Drinks were okay, again limited to what was offered in August. Please have wait staff trained to tell you what menu items are not available when they bring the menu, not when you have been at the table 30 minutes and order, only to be told that the item was sold out an hour ago. The tap room was very loud and hard to hear conversations at the table. The one plus was the delicious rolls that came to the table warm. Even when we ordered dessert we were told the item that we ordered was not available. Very disappointing. Maybe due to college graduations they were out of food? However I had the shrimp and lobster fra diavolo because I was craving lobster and spice. Everyone at the table agreed that it was tasteless-not just no spice but no flavor. One can easily find dishes made with homemade pasta and with chunks of seafood available at many nearby establishments. I went in for a 7:45 reservation on a Saturday night. It was tough to find parking, but we finally did get a spot in the parking lot. We sat at a small table for four. We ordered Poutine and Calamari to share. Hailey was our waitress and she was very attentive and knowledgeable. The Poutine was really good and very filling. The cheese and gravy was fantastic. The Calamari was good, but I would get another app next time around. The sticky ribs were absolutely amazing...highly recommended! We were filled up on the appetizers so I didn't get to order what I really wanted, which was the whole fried red snapper that was today's special. We ordered Gemelli (pasta and chicken dish) to split. It was very good, the chicken was tender and juicy and the flavors from the bacon, cream sauce and butter melded perfectly to the pasta dish. I made note of a beautiful, long, & wooden high-top table on the porch that could seat maybe around 12 people. This would be a great spot to dine out with a large group. Our server was friendly & efficient. She handled our multiple food allergies & intolerances with ease, double checking in with the kitchen when necessary to ensure that everything we ordered was safe for us to eat. I ordered the blackened swordfish which came with roasted tomato pilaf, spinach, & mango relish. It was phenomenal. A perfect late summer dish. I also had the specialty paloma with ghost pepper, but that was a bit underwhelming. My dad had the "simply grilled" salmon with basmati rice & substituted green beans, since he couldn't have some of the vegetables that it normally is served with. I tried a bite of the salmon & it was decent. The green beans were totally disappointing, especially since it's green bean season. They were wicked bland. Lastly, the bathroom needs some TLC. Stumbled upon this place after we got off the Newport Jamestown ferry - if you use your ticket you get a free desert btw! Very cool rustic modern place with 3 levels including a huge outdoor bar. Sat at the bar, the bartenders were great and very chill - food came out quick and was excellent. The burrata was thick and creamy over a bed of tossed extremely fresh and crispy salad. I got the swordfish over rice and my wife got the chicken Sandwich. After a couple bites of hers - that was easily the greatest chicken Sandwhich I put in my mouth in years. Came with thick cut bacon and the Alabama white sauce was equally as amazing. The swordfish was a nice 8-10oz steak charred and seasoned perfectly over a nice bed of rice and vegetables. Located a block from the shore I came with one for a drink after visiting Newport. Fortunately it was mid way between lunchtime and dinner on a Sunday and they were not so busy so we had our choices for seating. There are multiple bars and sitting areas at different levels. We chose the top side bar that was upstairs. It had both indoor and outdoor seating. We chose indoor at the bar next to an open window because it was starting to rain out. The server was friendly and attentive, the crowd was friendly and we struck up conversations with other people. We ordered craft beers and mussels to share. The draft selection is small but familiar so it was fine. The mussels came with only one slice of bread so we had to ask for more to soak up the broth. The mussels were fresh but I thought the coconut was a little overpowering and didn't go for the broth. Overall the ambience and service were good. Location good. On street parking was fine. It was my first time visiting Jamestown and it's a cute little town. This restaurant is very cozy and inexpensive if you're looking for somewhere nice on a budget. I think my husband and I spent about $80 on a drink each, shared app and entree, so I'd call that pretty affordable. Our waitress was very attentive and checked in on us every now and then. The only complaint I'd give is that the lobster ravioli's portion size is very small. It was tasty but I was definitely expecting a little more. First time here. My wife and I joined another couple and we had dinner upstairs at Beech. The ambiance was positive. The tables were nicely spaced and well set. Downstairs dining room looked nice as well and there was a bar on each floor. It has a small parking lot. Our server greeted us and was really great. She had a lot of enthusiasm and great suggestions for appetizers and meals. The dirnks we had were well made and generous. Not super strong but not weak either. The food was great. I had a most excellent beet salad with goat cheese. Beets were nice and fresh and served in slices. The dressing was excellent and was a champagne vinegarette style with some citrus. My wife had the fried brussels sprouts and they were great. Not overly salty or soggy with just the right amount of crunch. For my entree, I had a beautiful piece of blackened swordfish with Jasmine rice and fresh steamed veggies. The swordfish was a thick baseball cut and was perfectly prepared and spiced. Friendly for sure, but a little hectic, and tried to read specials to two tables at once. Warm and inviting with acoustic tunes overhead, date night was had at Beech Jamestown. I started with the rosé sangria and French onion soup. My husband started with the sticky short ribs. Rich and comforting the French onion soup is a must order. My husband really enjoyed the sticky short ribs. For the main course, the blackened swordfish- was cooked perfectly. My husband had the short rib ravioli from the specials menu. The ravioli, homemade in house, were soft pillowy pieces of pasta filled with tender short rib meat. Served in a bowl of ragu, it completely melted in your mouth. I ordered a second drink- the garden park (I think ?)- and that was sweet and flowery like I was taking a walk through the garden! We contemplated dessert, but none of the three options really made us need dessert (we were pretty full)! Megan was our server and she was awesome! We had booked another venue left deposit and kept going by to plan it left messages and they never were there or returned our calls so we looked around and found Mark at Beech restaurant in Jamestown ! Absolutely terrible experience. Walked into Beech and the place was practically empty no customers in sight. Despite that, it took 30 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge me or take my order. The waiters were literally sitting at the far end of the restaurant, drinking Coke and chatting like it was their day off. No sense of urgency, no apology, nothing.
