Bee Caves Dermatology was purchased by Epiphany Dermatology and moved to the Westlake Medical complex there close to the corner of 2244 and Bee Caves Rd. I've been to see Dr. Martinez for minor skin issues and will continue going back because she's been the best dermatologist I've found so far. I honestly don't care if she wears a mask, maybe she or someone at home is at risk. Her bedside manner is great and her nurses are great. She is a quick and competent doctor that listens and makes sure I'm comfortable and I'll take that any day of the week. read more

You never really know what you're going to get in this office. Some experiences are fine, others leave a lot to be desired. Dr. Martinez and her clinical staff all wear N95 masks, I have actually never had a true face to face conversation with her before. I believe it heightens what appears to be the highly transactional nature of her practice. I don't feel like my concerns are always properly addressed either. First of all, I went in for a visit, expecting to get a few moles removed, and Dr. Mary Ann Martinez decides that I should wait--so I can revisit and pay her more money--this visit was a waste of my precious time. Furthermore, they have the audacity to charge me $170,00 out of pocket for doing absolutely nothing--which I paid when I left. all Dr's here in texas are frauds--no wonder health insurance is insane--doctors are billing incorrectly.! Today I received a bill for $183.00 again for what? For doing absolutely nothing! If you do not remove this bill from my account, you will be sued for fraud. FOR ALL: If you're looking for a dermatologist go elsewhere. She also removed a mole from my husband--again bogus they decided it was benign and he still had to pay another $80.00. A no-brainer: I was at a dentist once, they didn't use enough lidocaine or whatever, so when that drill pierced my tooth I went frigging berserk. The pain was excruciating. I'm pretty wary now of routine out-patient procedures that involve a scalpel and me being awake. So I'm lying face down all scrunched up in some weird position because Dr Martinez is about to slice off two moles, when she says: "Doesn't your office have nature trails with animals living in them?" "Yeah, most everyone uses the track now, but if you walk the woods you'll run into deer, coyotes & maybe a bunch of--" "Okay, we're done. I'll send these to the lab & call next week." "But, but, there are more animals out there. Is there anything else you need to cut off?" "No." And then the adrenaline waned and I stopped blathering. All I care about these days are medical pros with great reps and not having to feel anything when I'm there. Dr Martinez and her Bee Caves Dermatology is as good as it gets. I've had a skin issue for 20 years and multiple dermatologists said I just had to live with it. Dr. Martinez prescribed a medication that solved this issue within weeks! What a weirdo. Here's the sitch. I had a rash on my face (awesome, yes, I know you're jealous). I have a job. I am a girl. Put those three things in a blender, and it means that I wear makeup. This is important for the rest of the story. On referral, I go see Dr. Martinez for said rash. After waiting (and waiting) in the aptly named waiting area, I finally see her. She says, "well you look fine to me." Well, ok, that's coz I have makeup on, I had a big presentation today and didn't want people focusing on my big red face. But see I wiped it off here, you can see it. Now look at this bit, it's like this all over. Maybe you could check out the rashy bit and give me your thoughts on what it might be and how we could treat it. "Well, that doesn't seem that bad to me. If you're going to wear makeup, I can't see the problem." Okay. My bad. I guess. I mean, you could look at the rashy bit that's totally visible but...no? Ok. I guess. So for some reason (my regular doc really loves Dr. Martinez, I'm thinking maybe I just caught her on an off day?) I go back on a day when I don't have to go back to the office, and show up without any makeup so she can see my big red face. And now she actually says "Have you thought about wearing makeup? You could probably just cover that up." !!! Yeah. That's what I want to do. I don't want to TREAT the problem. I want to continue having the problem and putting makeup on over it. See, I didn't realize I was visiting the Clinique counter at Macy's. I thought I was at a doctor's office. WTF? Have I thought about wearing makeup over that? AS A SOLUTION?? No, I want some freaking medicine, or a treatment plan, or to be told to avoid artificial sweetener, or something. I already know how to put on makeup. And at no time does she acknowledge that we have ever spoken before (maybe a week has elapsed between appointments) or that what she told me during the second appointment is in exact opposition to what she told me during the first one. What a complete weirdo. After I affirmed that makeup, to my mind, didn't constitute a viable treatment plan, and stated that I had concerns that the rash, much like most medical problems, would only get worse if left untreated, she eventually, and in an oddly grudgingly manner, gave me a prescription along with a sample for a moisturizer to try. Dr. Martinez is by far the most attractive doctor I've ever had. Most of the time, that would be irrelevant, but since she's caring for my skin, I feel more secure knowing that she can really take care of her own. I mean, really, she was practically glowing her skin was so perfect. That is one healthy looking lady. Dr. Martinez's office, Bee Caves Dermatology located on 2244 near Red Bud, looks updated and professional, and the office runs efficiently. I had no problem setting an appointment, and when I showed up I didn't have to wait. I found the receptionist and nurse polite, professional, and friendly. I don't have much of a frame of reference, but I think this doctor is a little expensive. She looked at 2 weird marks on my leg, referred me to a plastic surgeon, and gave me a prescription refill for my eczema cream. Though she was thorough and answered all my questions, the appointment took under 10 minutes. The bill says $245. Thank goodness I have insurance. I think I only owe $30 since she takes Blue Cross Blue Shield. read more

Shockingly, Dr. Martinez is such a bitch that she actually made me cry during my visit. I went in for a skin cancer checkup at the referral of my regular doctor; I had recently moved to Austin, and only three weeks before leaving Chicago, a skin cancer had been discovered and removed from my left shoulder. It was six months later, and I was very concerned about symptoms around my shoulder. Vulnerable and worried. My previous experiences with the Chicago dermatologist being exceedingly kind and respectful really didn't prepare me for Dr. Martinez to be rude, argumentative and condescending. An overwhelming lack of compassion. In addition, I asked one question to the receptionist about an office policy, and the receptionist was no less bitchy about telling me to just go elsewhere, instead of actually responding to me. My last dermatologist I loved, but the staff was terrible and thought it was okay to give out expired samples. Uhhh not okay with me. I asked for recommendations from friends but all of theirs were on the north side of town so I wanted someone a little bit closer to me. Dr. Martinez was a total shot in the dark. The office was in a great location, easy parking. The staff was sweet, the office decor comfortable, and I only waited a few minutes before I got in to see her. She came in and was very nice, I just went in for a skin cancer check and a check on a few places. We did it quickly, she answered all my questions and addressed my concerns. I was given samples, prescription and ideas for "sun friendly" clothing. I have to go back for a follow up in 3 months where I want to really start looking at more cosmetic concerns so we'll see how it goes then. My only complaint was I did feel a little rushed which I thought was goofy since there weren't many people in the waiting room, but otherwise nice first impression. :) read more

I was recommended to Bee Caves Dermatology when my dermatologist moved away. I was looking for a female doctor who would be thorough and take the time to help me understand any procedures recommended as well as pitfalls or concerns to be aware of. Dr. Mary Ann Martinez was extremely helpful and asked me a lot of questions to help understand how we should proceed. She explained the basis for any blemishes or skin issues that I have and the best way to treat them as well as anything side effects I should be aware of. She was helpful in also walking me through how they handle insurance so I could make a decision on how to proceed. She's great, I'd highly recommend her! The only pitfall is the waiting time was over 30 minutes just to see her, and I spent over an hour there (waiting time and appointment) total. I'm hoping subsequent visits will get faster. My head itches. After seeing Dr. Martinez, thankfully, it now itches less. Though some reviewers have taken issue with the doctor's demeanor, I found her professional, intelligent, and honest. I had the worst experience I have ever had at a doctor's. The staff is hostile and unprofessional. I had a family emergency and needed a refill on my face cream prescription and I called them and explained the situation. They said that I needed to come in for my annual appointment and I asked if there was anyway to get a prescription for the next week or so until I could come in. They agreed and later I received all my records in the mail with a letter that I would need to find a new doctor because of my failure to comply by coming in first. I was shocked and confused, especially since my family and I had been a patient for over 5 years. This is apparently not uncommon for her though, as I discovered by reading the reviews below. I'm an RN and heard about Dr. Martinez from a doctor acquaintance of mine. He refers many of his patients to her with great results. My whole life I have struggled with severe acne and rosacea. I'm now in my 40's and find it to be worse than ever despite various treatment regimens including IPL, topical meds, Clarisonic brush, chemical peels, etc. I've tried EVERYTHING! My first visit with Dr. Martinez is what I would describe as the perfect doctor visit. Valerie greeted me with a friendly smile and had me fill out the usual paperwork. The waiting room was clean and bright with interesting magazines and educational materials. Love the big acne prevention poster! Sarah, Dr. Martinez' friendly and efficient assistant promptly called me back and patiently went over my past medical history and medications. I tend to be very introverted without my usual thick layer of foundation makeup, but she drew me out of my shell and before long we were chatting away. The exam room had informative posters and brochures that covered everything from melanoma to rough feet. Dr. Martinez came in soon after and really listened to me. Her wonderful bedside manner was refreshing. Listening, making good eye contact, but still taking thorough notes. She examined my skin closely including areas I hadn't even thought of being a potential problem (back, chest). She came up with a customized regimen for me that included topical and oral meds. Sarah provided me with a written treatment plan, ample samples, and money saving coupon cards that greatly reduced the cost of my meds. My skin started clearing up in approximately 2 weeks and I found the regimen easy to follow. The redness that was painful and embarrassing has almost totally gone. No new cystic breakouts since that visit 6 weeks ago. I even went a few days with no makeup (at home, hehe!). My follow up visit this week just as great as the first and I will be able to discontinue some meds. I'm thankful to have found Dr. Martinez and look forward to being her patient for many years. Really surprised by all the negative reviews as I've had nothing but positive experiences with Dr. Martinez and her staff. I was a patient of Dr. Martinez for a few years and went in for a variety of reasons. Each time I went in, her office staff was always kind and professional as was Dr. Martinez. What I particularly liked about Dr. Martinez was that she took the time to listen, ask questions and explain her diagnosis and treatment plan, instead of half listening and scribbling out a prescription like so many other doctors do. I was really disappointed when my employer switched insurance providers and I had to find a new dermatologist. With my record request Dr. Martinez included a really nice note, thanking me for being a patient and wishing me the best. Of all the doctors I've had, Dr. Martinez and her entire staff (from the front staff to the nurses) have been beyond helpful, knowledgeable and competent. I go the dermatologist because I have a cystic/hormonal acne breakout once a year. I have never had clear skin until I meet Dr. Martinez and her staff. It's the best experience I've ever had. Every dermatologist I went to would prescribe an antibiotic and send me home and not deal with any other issue (hyperpigmentation, etc). Within 3 months, not only was I no longer breaking out (has never happened before!), but my skin had never been more perfect! Dr. Martinez understood exactly what my skin required. Her team also knows how to work with different insurances and curate the treatment plan with that! I've always left other doctors because of the way they treat me and my skin, but I honestly look forward to seeing Dr. Martinez and will continue to see her. I have had a great experience at Bee Caves Dermatology and with Dr. Martinez. I first saw her as an emergency patient because a cyst on my arm literally exploded. It wasn't life or death, obviously, but I really had to see a doctor ASAP. She fit me in the next day, and she and her staff were super nice and professional. That was 5 or 6 years ago. I have seen her since for cosmetic skin care, and she and Sarah are always wonderful. The parking is easy, they're not overcrowded, and I never feel rushed there. Also, she always knows and remembers me, even when I'm not there frequently. She does take insurance, but not my crappy insurance. I pay out of pocket to see her because she is worth it. I saw Mary Anne Martinez of this place. If I could give this place lower, I would. I went here for Botox over 6 years ago. It was expensive, but good.Dr. Martinez was nice and professional. I always paid in cash (over $500-700 at a time). I am an attorney and officed up stairs, at the time in a small office in Westlake. I went to Dr. Martinez exactly 1 X for an actual medical/dermatological issue. They billed my insurance. Apparently, there was a bill for around $100. I Never received the invoice. Do you think they might have emailed, called....or I don't know, come upstairs NO. They reported it on my credit. I have LONG since paid it, but it is still there. Ive called multiple times and they promise to fix it. NOTHING.......Obnoxious, ridiculous, unprofessional. I have been to far better places for less for the same or better I service. We like Dr. Martinez as she lives in the neighborhood, but her appt change/cancellation policy is completely unacceptable. The snippy (fake politeness) high pitched voice of the receptionist didn't help. My daughter had to miss an appointment due to state mandated STARR testing and they were either going to charge me $30 just to change ON THE SAME DAY or the full appt amount. Although I personally wasn't a patient of Dr. Martinez, I recently took my little brother in to have some warts looked at. The first thing that put me out was t that despite the fact that I am 21, they made me and my brother wait before Martinez would see us simply because one of our parents' weren't present and he's only 10. Made us wait a while longer for a consent form my Dad to get faxed in despite the fact that we already scheduled an appointment. Anyway, after waiting for 45 minutes or so (but that happens at all doctor's offices) we finally get in. She came in promptly and diagnosed my brother's warts quickly, and gave us a few options for how to treat them. I asked him what he wanted to do, and he picked the freeze option. She left the room, and actually called my parents to make sure this was ok. Even though I can understand why she did that, I was a little put out seeing as how I'm 21 and assured my little brother that I would have taken the freeze-the-warts-off strategy as well. She froze them off, gave us a prescription, and off we went. All and all, not too bad. Yeah, about that prescription. $100 dollars. 100 dollars for some wart remover stuff. When I asked the pharmacist if there was a generic alternative, she said there weren't. Technically, she was right, but I later learned from another pharmacist that this is total bullshit because there are similar products that do the exact same thing that cost a fraction of the price. Dr. Martinez is a complete product pusher. I couldn't fucking believe it when I found this out. I understand that creating new drugs is a very long and costly process, but I don't think it's fair to push that on us if there are generics available that do the EXACT SAME THING. Dr. Martinez CLEARLY knew this but I'm sure she's got a fine relationship with whatever drug company she has a symbiotic relationship with. Just by walking in the waiting room, they have all kinds of advertisements for different skin cream packages and all that jazz. I'm aware that everyone needs to make money, but I find that to be completely inappropriate when someone in the health care field knowingly does this and treats people like customers rather than patients. She's a fine doctor from my experience, but I would never recommend her to anyone since money is obviously more important than the welfare of her patients. My mother has to purchase health insurance for the entire family which costs nearly 1/4 of her paycheck and Dr. Martinez has the fucking audacity to knowingly charge us out the ass so she can just make more money? Yeah. Won't be seeing her again. Ever. Avoid. UPDATE: After writing this review, my parents received a letter in the mail saying that Dr. Martinez would no longer see my little brother as a patient. This place is bad...really bad. The office staff are rude and unprofessional and Dr. Martinez comes across as arrogant with an I am better than you attitude. She gave me a prescription for a skin condition that I have and told me to come back in a few weeks. I was asking about a procedure I could try and she told me that it was not covered under my insurance and that I couldn't afford it. I asked her how does she know if I could afford it or not. She just said that it was really expensive and that I should just try the prescription meds. I happen to have a great job with a nice salary. I tried the prescription meds she gave me and it did not help at all. I called her office and asked her staff if Dr. Martinez could give me a different prescription and was told I would have to come in for another appointment. I WAS JUST THERE 2 WEEKS AGO. I said no thanks and a few weeks later I got a letter from Dr. Martinez stating that she would not be able to provide service to me and that I would need to find another dermatologist. Ok. I called with a concern about some moles,Doctor Martinez was out on vacation again..seems way more interested in selling botox/products than real skin care. I did see a another dermatologist who took care of my moles and skin tags wow what a difference! I am prone to skin cancer and needed a good doctor. Rude receptionist,read on ...you have any questions or issues this doctor will not address them with you she just sends out a letter and fires you as a patient. I am shocked that anyone would give Dr. Martinez and her staff at Bee Caves Derm a less than stellar review. I have been going to Bee Cave Derm frequently for about a year or so. Dr. M was voted best in Austin a couple years back, and there's a reason why. She is not only extremely intelligent (duh- she's an MD, and phi beta kappa :)), but also one of the most caring and good doctors I have ever seen. No matter what type of medicine a doctor practices, I believe there are common traits that define a healer, caregiver, and professional medical doctor. Dr. M sees every patient herself no matter what the issue. In our interactions, she has always been kind, patient, and understanding. Skin problems can be embarrassing and really affect one's esteem. I have never felt judged or rushed by her or her staff. She takes the time to listen, and find a custom solution to help the individual. Her nurse and receptionist have always been friendly and helpful. I wish all my friends would go to Dr. M for their skin because she is so attentive and caring! read more

Went to Bee Caves Dermatology a few weeks ago and wanted to say how impressed I was with the staff and with Dr. Martinez. The office is really comfortable and I did not have to wait long. Dr. Martinez is so super sweet and extremely knowledgeable. She took her time to listen and answered all my questions. The nurse was really nice as well, making sure that I understood how the rebate cards for my prescription worked, answered some questions that I had about follow up visits and gave me some recommendations on products that would work well with my skin. I went to her about year ago for a skin check. Got thumbs up for another year. I went to her again this week for my check and things were not so awesome. I had some areas of concern, and darn it, it seems I indeed have some precancerous cells that require attention. Dr. Martinez gave me options. I appreciate that. The medicine I chose had a harsh affect for me. I got back into see her right away and she revised the plan for me. I had to ask about Botox and products because she doesn't bring that stuff up at all. I think she's awesome! Her staff is nice too! And this isn't important but... I'm a fan of Dr. Martinez. The office is nice, always clean and I am always able to get an appointment when needed. I can see where people get the "rude" vibe from the rest of the staff, but they have never personally been rude to me so I can't comment much on that. There is a short wait (sometimes 10-20 min) before you are seen and the appointments are all very quick and to the point. However, when I have issues I definitely feel free to bring them up and ask more questions and Dr. Martinez has never been annoyed with me taking up more of her time. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Martinez for more than a year now for help with basic acne and she's been great! I have always found the staff helpful and polite. I'm seeing some negative reviews here which are surprising to me - I definitely don't doubt their accuracy but since my experience has always been positive I'm hoping that appropriate changes are being made to the staff. My only complaint would be lack of natural/organic products as we at home are making a shift to try to eliminate any beauty or household products with harsh chemicals. I will say that her morning face lotion w/SPF is great! Goes on smooth and not oily at all. Her Vitamin C serum is also great - but I was able to find a similar serum that is more natural and at a lower price. read more
