Went to the Bedford Post Inn after seeing them advertise their "Sunday Pancakes" (as in, Sunday in Brooklyn) on social media. I had never been to Sunday in Brooklyn but upon reviewing menus from the Bedford Post Barn, several menu items seem to be taken directly from that very popular restaurant and with the same NYC prices. Upon entering there is a medium sized dining area with inviting tables along with counter seating along their coffee bar-- while I went during the winter, it looks like the outdoor space would've been a beautiful place to sit as well during more temperate months. With reservations I was always promptly seated, and service was friendly enough and orders were taken in a timely manner. After going to the Bedford Post Barn twice, I can say that the food is good quality, tasty, yet still on the pricier side-- everything is about 4 dollars more than what you would get at a comparable American restaurant of the same quality in Westchester, though I'm sure these prices are inconsequential for their target clientele in Bedford. The Sunday pancakes were decadent with a great caramel flavor from the maple praline and a thick, rich cake-like texture. The BEC sandwich was actually wonderful, the texture of the egg is great and the hash brown adds a great crunch, but kind of small for $20 and having no side. The club sandwich was generous with turkey but skimped a little of the dijonnaise sauce (TBF I think if I asked for more I am sure they would have accommodated me) the The french fries are amazing-- great crunch and well seasoned. The café drinks were also very high quality. The food, ambiance and service made for a really nice brunch experience if you are looking for something a little more elevated for breakfast in terms of ambiance moreso than any ingenuity with the menu. While the Sunday Pancakes are unique, for the rest of the menu they have the basics done well and presented well here. read more

So I'm a pretty serious Yelper and never go to any place with lower than 4 stars. But my local friend insisted we visit this spot. It did not disappoint!! I am seriously flabbergasted by the low reviews here... I think people are coming here with expectations that are of a 3 Michelin star experience in the city, or something weird. I had a great meal - got the fall salad which was fabulous. And also got a Bloody Mary. Yum! And the mushroom Tartine. It was amazing! I will be back when I'm in town next to visit my friend. The restaurant has quaint outdoor seating, but we decided to sit inside, which is also nice. There, however, is no cell service and their wifi requires you to log in. This became an issue when the menu is on a QR code and there was no hard copy of the menu. The link then makes you download the menu pdf instead of just viewing it, which is a pet peeve of mine. The staff was fine and several people came by to check in and take our order. We ordered the steak and eggs and a croque Madame. I had a really nice meal here last night, just me and my wife, celebrating our anniversary. The service was just fine, very attentive etc, and the food was fantastic. Most of all the setting was very nice - it was a bit of an odd mix of people very casual, with family, and couples dressed up a bit nicer, but it worked. We were at the Barn, which is a small indoor area and larger outdoor areas under shade, Wisteria etc. I would be very interested to return when the less casual dining venues open. Yes, the menu was QR code only. Yes, you needed wifi, which they provided, and the wifi took a minute or two to setup. This didn't give me or my wife any trouble. The food was very interesting and tasty. We started with oyster shooters, followed it with a bibb salad and blooming onion, shared the spot pork main course, and finished it off with a caramel corn ice cream sandwich. Also got a side of edamame and the bread. Lots of complaints on her about this bread being a $7 charge. This was a house made baguette, and came with special oil & butter dipping options. It was well worth it, but I can understand why people might feel nickel and dimed. To me, the start was the potatoes that came with the entree pork, but it was all very good, nothing off the mark. The drinks were also quite good. Overall, this felt like a good value considering it was impressive/unique food in a wonderful setting, and I will gladly go back sometime to both the Barn and potentially to see the Farmhouse. I would have liked to have been able to see the grounds a bit more - the Inn is a spot I've always wanted to visit with my wife and this was our first time there. We are considering spending a night there sometime, leaving the kids with an overnight babysitter or grandparents. Hard to decide if that would be worth it. read more

There has recently been a lot of turmoil here. The restaurant has separated from the inn and very recently the chef had emergency surgery. We were pretty worried that this was going to be a bust, but it wasn't. The service was just fine. I don't know how they replaced the chef but the food was just fine too. We shared some very fresh oysters, followed by a grilled romaine salad and lobster rangoons. The house made pasta dish was quite good. Wines by the glass choices could be better, but we found a Cotes du Rhône that went great with the pasta. We also shared an interesting dessert, the plum and peach Pavlova. 4+ stars. read more

Made reservations a month in advance and when we arrived for 7pm reservations on a Saturday night in January (2022), they seated us at a table about 4 feet from the front door. It was a frigid night and the door was constantly opening and closing. It was positively freezing and we asked for a different table. The hostess told us they could not accommodate us and then what I assume was the manager came over and escalated things pretty quickly. She said things like, "we've already turned this table over twice, other people sat here." And then she ultimately asked if we'd like a seat outside "under the heat lamps". It was below 20 degrees outside. When we protested and asked if she was serious as it was so cold, she told us she wouldn't serve us. Unbelievably rude and un-accommodating. We will never go there again as clearly they're not interested in service that matches the setting. read more

We ate at this restaurant a couple of years ago, the food and service were wonderful. Apparently the establishment has changed owners, because our experience this time was TERRIBLE. The lady with red hair at the front desk as you walk in needs additional customer service training. We were told over the phone there would be a $35 charge for a pre-fix menu for children, when the bill came we were charged $85 for a nine year old who at barely anything. When we asked the front desk lady with red hair she told us "our menu has been up for weeks there was no children's price" and continued to argue with us that we somehow should have known despite being told misinformation over the phone.Even if we were incorrect there IS a polite way to say it, this lady clearly does not know how to speak to people let alone guests! When the red haired lady did not want to speak with us any longer waved us off to someone else and yelled "can you speak to these women?!", in ear shot of guests. What an embarrassment to this restaurant! We were later told that she is co-owner?! God help this restaurant if she actually owns a stake in the place, if this is how she is going to treat guests then this restaurant is not going to survive. Again. In addition to the above the food was not impressive and some of it was cold when it arrived, seemed like it had been sitting out for a while. We had a good time a couple of years ago but will not be going back which is a shame because we live in the area. read more

Went for dinner 1/8/22 with another couple and a reservation in hand made a month prior. It was 18F outside and the table we were given was immediately in the draft-way of the busy front door, the opening and closing of which waved in whirlwinds of frigid air. We asked for a different table and were told we were rude for making the request; instead we were told we could dine outside. It was 18F! The only person outside was Bernie Sanders in his Inauguration Day costume. I incredulously asked the hostess if she was joking, to which she took objection and ordered us to leave the restaurant. We won't be darkening that drafty door again but certainly will tell the story about the restaurant so successful that the hostess orders new clients to leave. read more

I parked my car and went right back and I was told there were no more tables available (as I was looking at several open tables). I'll preface by saying I thought hostess, servers and busters were doing their damned best here. Everyone was kind, they checked on us frequently, tried to resolve issues promptly. But I think they were unexperienced and I think management and kitchen need a lot of work. This was the most confusing brunch I've ever been to. Nothing was totally horrible but a lot of bizarrely wrong. Let's start with how it took 20 minutes for our drinks at 2pm during brunch. The bartender wasn't idle but he definitely wasn't swamped but was somehow 10 tables behind for getting drinks out. And our tea and coffee were delayed by the same amount of time. When my tea came, they set down a pot that didn't contain enough water to even fill a single cup. There was room in the pot for at least two cups, but that's what I got, 3/4 of a cup. The server caught on to my confusion immediately and got me more water, but it was again, only enough for about a cup. Why?? My husband's coffee had a large mass of brown sludge at the bottom, we do not know what that was. It looked like chocolate but he very clearly had coffee. Then there was the food... we started with ricotta fritters and the cinnamon bun. The fritters were fine, the cinnamon bun tasted like it was probably made yesterday and reheated today, had a stale quality to it. I got the gravlax tartine which was advertised as having hard boiled egg. What I got was a large 2" thick half baguette that was dry, with a pile of smoked salmon, with tiny bits of chopped egg barely constituting a garnish. Not only was it not what was described but it was really difficult to eat because of the giant uncut baguette half. My husband's smoked salmon Benedict was pretty standard, and tasted fine, but the eggs were poorly poached. I also had an oyster shooter, that was quite good. Probably the best thing I had today. Little things, like staff not realizing our silverware covered in frosting needed to be changed out for fresh forks and knives for our mains also was an issue. The setting is nice. It just really came off as poorly managed, poorly trained and green staff, and some very strange kitchen choices. Again, not blaming the staff, they seemed to try hard in earnest, but management needs to step up. read more

The managers, owner included, clearly have little to no knowledge on actual customer service and have no clue how to provide a great experience for guests to ensure that they come back again. Been here several times and food was good... Yesterday however, not only was the food just OK, the service was terrible. Long wait time for drinks, with a sever who really didn't care, nor did he know much about the menu. When the food arrived, one of the dishes was not correct, so we had to wait, and wait, while they tried to fix it, only to keep waiting, and again, have a server who really didn't care. End of the meal, nothing taken off the bill, even after mentioning the issues. Upon writing to the owner, the reply back from him was actually insulting VS him actually caring and understanding and wanting to make it better--in fact, I'm now banned! which is fine, because I wouldn't step foot back there. don't waste your time or your money here, far better places. read more

This has always been one of our favorite lunch/brunch spots and we have been going there since the Richard Gere ownership. While the food is imaginative and generally quite good, the service is pretty much a disaster. I don't know whether this is a function of not having enough help or whether it's an issue of training. If the former, than I suggest cutting back on reservations. I choose not to get specific with all the issues I had. Outdoor seating on a nice day is serene under a canopy of vines and lights! For lunch, the burger was generous with (really good) sweet potato fries, bacon, lettuce and juicy yellow tomatoes. I made a reservation online at 7p on Tues. for a 6:45 reservation on Wed. On Wed. afternoon we had another friend that wanted to join us for a 50th Birthday Celebration. Their website stated that Parties of 7+ would be able to sit at their table for 3hrs, so I assumed parties of 7 or more were O.K. (Apparently anything over 6 is considered a private party) Unfortunately they are closed on Tues. so I was unable to call and inquire if additional guests could be accommodated if necessary. Their website also states they "Request" 24hrs notification of cancellation not "Require" plus they were unable to accommodate 1 additional guest that we gladly would have "squeezed" in at the normal size table for 6. There is a $50 per person charge for a no show. Of course I thought it was $50. Although they "Request" cancellation within 24hrs it didn't say "Required" When they called to confirm my reservation for 6 I asked if they could accommodate 1 additional guest. They said no. The hostess put the manager on the phone who was extremely rude. I requested to speak with the Owner of the Restaurant and I was told "That's not going to happen". They are adamant they will be charging me $300.00 for the cancellation. My guess is they will fill the table anyway. The manager was beyond rude. A restaurant such as Bedford Post should pride itself on high quality customer service, in this case it was a complete failure. Beware of making reservations online at this restaurant. I certainly hope their customer service is much better in person. As in a previous reviews on this sight the manager was extremely rude. Buyer Beware! read more

This is a beautiful spot. It's been a while since we've been here and kudos to the new owners for offering outdoor dining during COVID. We used to love this place & were excited to come back. For the price we expected devine food and exceptional service, which had been our experience in the past. All around disappointing this time, from being forced to wait in the parking lot to be seated, to being rushed and then ignored to order, long wait for the wine, tiny portions with weird sauces, bill slammed down on the table while we were still eating dessert, and then being overcharged for items we didn't order. Also, just print menus. Spend less on the decorative pumpkins and give us a recyclable menu. Or tell us to print our own, like airline tickets. This restaurant wasn't the best. I wouldn't go back. Valet only, but when we arrived the valet tender was not there. He got very mad at us for parking our car ourselves then moved it right when we got out. I ordered a $26 steak and got only a sliver. Food took more than 45 minutes to come out and the waiter checked up on us 1 time. Food was OK but not worth the price at all. The steak was as large as an egg. Getting the check was even harder because no waiter seemed to be around. The place was freezing and the fire was small and smoking up the room. It smoked up the room so much they had to open windows, which made it even colder. Would not recommend. read more

Reserved a table for 3 for dinner "inside." The hostess wouldn't seat us until our 3rd guest arrived and said we could wait outside in the 90 degree temperature until her arrival and sit on a bench. After we complained about the heat, she said we could go inside and sit at the bar. The inside part was 100% empty. We decided to sit at a table and wait for our friend. The hostess came in and said we weren't allowed to sit at a table. We requested the manager come in so we could speak to her. She came inside and told us to leave!!! She kicked us out! Needless to say, that is an unheard of experience from a psychotic manager. Unfortunately, Richard Gere doesn't seem to care how his name is represented to the public. The manager is a disgrace!! Beautiful setting (bring an epi pen if you have a bee sting allergy) but the lack of gluten free bread and brunch options was very disappointing. Also, while my mom's eggs Benedict came with a side salad the kitchen refused to make me one and instead insisted I could select an entree salad from the menu. Perplexing. I live locally and was excited to go back to the Bedford Post with its new ownership and chef. The setting was very nice eating outside on the terrace. The service was decent but a little inexperienced. While we all realize we are inflationary times the gouging by the management of the restaurant was appalling. The drink pours were ridiculously small and overpriced. My wife asked for the house rose and when we got the bill it was $25! for a tiny pour. Old fashions were $22 and a half of shot of vodka was $17. The make you pay for bread which is fine but they call it baguette and then bring a quarter of it for $7. My wife's hamburger without fries was tiny at $25 with $8 fries. My fried chicken was 2 tiny Chicken mc nuggets that were tasteless and dry. At the the end of the day a burger and fried chicken with 2 apps and 2 drinks and no desert was $250+ I realize Bedford is an expensive place to live and don't mind dropping $250 for a good meal but this place was a joke. Servers made multiple mistakes on simple orders, the food was passable but flavorless, and possibly gave one of the party food poisoning, tbh that's tbd. One of our party asked for sliced lemon for our water and they came out with brown crumbles on them! What kind of cross-contamination nonsense was that? After all the earlier errors we just opted to leave them on the plate and not make a fuss. This place is absolutely THE WORST. The customer service is appalling but not surprising. It starts at the top. The partners Jason Cott and Roxanne Spruance, who is also listed as executive chef are two of the most unpleasant humans I have ever come across in the restaurant business. I had to cancel a party at the last minute due to their unwillingness to accommodate even the smallest of requests (kids menu) at what was suppose to be a private event. I did some research after the fact, and sadly this has been a way of conducting business for her as there are similar stories posted from her failed restaurant in NYC. It's a real shame.
