Went there with a friend last week for a nice quiet dinner. Told the server we were not in a rush and they let us be in our time frame which was great. We split two appetizer of the spiced cauliflower and tuna tartar. Both delicious and really easy to share. Our table was cleared of all silverware and plates to welcome the main dishes. When a runner came out to bring our mains, he noticed we didn't have silverware and quickly diverted his pace to get someone to give us silverware. It was very nonchalant the way he moved and the mains were then served shortly after the forks and knives were placed. I specifically took note of this and complimented the runner for noticing this and making sure its was taken care of properly. I dine all over the world and lately good service is hit or miss. Mostly miss. So when I see it done right, I make sure I let it be known that they did the right thing. Hopefully it gets passed on. This restaurant will see me again for sure. read more

Met up with friends for lunch. They were having restaurant week and did not know about it. You got an appetizer, main meal and a dessert. All 4 of us took advantage of it. We all started off with a Bib salad with blue cheese, thinly sliced apples, candied pecans, and some sliced avocado. The salad was full size and delicious. 2 of us had the fried buttermilk chicken on brioche bread with Asian slaw. I had sweet potato fries. My husband had the turkey club with bacon, avocado tomato and lettuce and my other friend had the Spring Spaghetti, with cherry tomatoes, cheese and pesto sauce. The sandwiches were so large it was a challenge to take a bite, but boy well worth the effort. Everything was so tasty and fresh. Dessert we had NY cheesecake and 2 different flavors of sorbet. Came here last night with my family to celebrate my parents' anniversary, and it was such a lovely experience. The restaurant is large, beautiful, and really impressive -- perfect for a celebration or to bring out-of-towners for a nice meal. They were participating in Restaurant Week, so we all went with that menu. While the selection wasn't huge, every option sounded great. I had the autumn soup and the short ribs -- the soup was absolutely delicious, and the short ribs were tender and flavorful. The polenta they were served on was fantastic! Service was excellent -- attentive, friendly, and thoughtful. They even brought my parents champagne and a dessert when they saw the note about their anniversary on the reservation, which was such a nice touch. This place could be great, but it falls short just a bit. The restaurant itself is beautiful on the inside. It felt welcoming and looks like a high end restaurant. The servers were also very efficient and checked on us several times during the meal. The wine we ordered was great and they have a good beer selection (ordered Chimay blue). For the kids, the spaghetti and meatballs were great. We ordered a cheeseburger medium, but it was a bit undercooked. The calamari appetizer from the "restaurant week" menu was not good. It seemed like frozen calamari from a packet that was barely battered or seasoned. The short ribs with polenta was fine, not great. The ribeye was fantastic, I got the spinach instead of the broccoli which was also good. The mashed potatoes were too runny somehow? And last was the pumpkin cheesecake with whipped cream and a berry compote? Pumpkin and berries is not a a good combination, maybe a drizzle of caramel would have done better to keep with the fall theme/color scheme of the pumpkin cheesecake. Overall it could be we just ordered some items that aren't their best. Very nice decor with some great large print photographs of horses. The service is okay, but is just a bit lacking in their attention to details. Sundays are a good time to go. I think the dining area could be quite loud at times. They have a large parking lot in the rear with some tight parking spots in front. The food was nice and has a touch of elegance- kudos to the chef. The times we've been there was with groups of 4 to 8 and they were very accommodating in seating us. This restaurant is always consistent. I had another amazing lunch here which consisted of the meatballs of course, and a truffle pizza for appetizers. The meatballs were perfect, with a wonderful sauce and a nice dollop of ricotta on top. The black truffle pizza was so cheesy and delicious, loved it! For entrées we ordered the barn burger and the heirloom tomato BLT. The burger was juicy, delicious, lots of bacon and perfect. We have been to dinner at Modern Barn in the past and wanted to meet another couple for lunch. Location, Ambiance and, Service was exceptional. However, my buddy and I were extremely disapointed in our brunch choice. We both ordered Houevos Rancheros. We had expected the classic Houevos Rancheros where with every forkful you get a tasty bit of salsa, egg, avocado, cheese and especially black beans. Well instead we got a beautifuly deconstructed version of Houevos Rancheros where every ingredient was seperated onto a large tortilla. Everything tasted good but eating it was a real chore. I had to cut up everyting and pick what I wanted instead of a tasty forkful. My buddy actually cut his tortilla in half and rolled up each half. This was fine except the way the ingredients were laid out on the tortilla he ended up having two types of breakfast barritos. Our wives did enjoy their meals. Would I go back to Moderne Barn...of course I would. However I would never get the Houevos Rancheros ever again. read more

Came for a belated birthday brunch with some of my closest friends and wow I will be coming back for lunch and dinner! Brunch was great we made a reservation to be safe, upon being seated you are brought a warm corn bread madeleine which was scrumptious. Our servers were on point making sure we had fresh water, coffee, and delicious food. We ordered the biscuits for the table, and they were so good I could not even get a picture. They were warm and perfectly doughy to melt the butter and homemade strawberry jam. I ordered the Westchester platter which was huge, the two eggs can be adjusted to your wish. The bacon was great and so were the home fries and toast. The sausage was good too. The inside is definitely more of an upscale brunch which was a nice change of scenery. This place is a little pricey, but I'd go out of my way to go there because of their pretzels on the appetizer menu really yummy. And most of the items that you can get in the spot are pretty tasty. Honestly, I did have a problem with the fly the one fly that was Buzzing around us the entire time we were eating the place was half empty and didn't seem like high priority service was OK but not great. It never really is but again one of those places that you go to because you do love what they have plus a nice beer selection Even though I don't drink pretty views out of the back of the place looking over a pond been there more than once so I won't tell you not to go. But they did come out with more Table ordered a burger is was really good cooked perfectly. Salmon was cooked good just plain Sea bass was little over cooked but a good sauce with it. My brother and sister-in-law had been here the day before with their friends who live in the are. Very charming restaurant. Started with the Whipped Burrata ,whole grain toast, brown butter, hazelnuts, sliced strawberries, and fresh basil because we all love burrata and it intrigued us. Definitely worth trying. I opted for the The Westchester , breakfast sausage, applewood smoked bacon, scrambled eggs, seven grain toast, and home fries. I assume the house specialty hence the name. Very good. My wife tried the Brioche French Toast ,Nutella, crème fraiche, bananas, and fresh strawberries because they are all her favorites. Superb dish. We went to Moderne Barn for an early Saturday dinner with six adults and four children, three of them under four years old. My husband and I were the lucky couple visiting from the other coast without our kids, and we realized that our friends were having a different dinner from us, with a big helping of stress to go with their food. Moderne Bar was in a large complex that seemed like a central commercial hub for Armonk, with a huge parking lot and several other businesses. The restaurant was spacious and attractive. We had a nice table on the upper level, which was less bustling than the main dining area, especially at 5:00. A couple of the kids were able to toddle a bit without disrupting other diners, and the staff was super nice to all of us. We drank tempranillo and stuck to entrées, not pushing our luck with a drawn-out dinner after a day of playtime. The food was good, starting with complimentary bread and butter. I got the wasabi pea crusted tuna and this was quite tasty, the tuna rare and silky with a seared, crispy crust, served with sushi rice, baby bok choy, spicy Korean sauce, and micro greens. My husband got the Long Island Crescent Farm duck breast, which was okay. We love duck and he's gotten good at making it at home. His version is better than most restaurants', including this one's. I guess it takes too much time to render out the fat without overcooking the meat. The sides were lovely, though: farro, carrot puree, roasted fennel, blackberry gastrique, and pomegranate seeds. We certainly don't do all that. This was a fun dinner with solid food and a comfortable, pleasant atmosphere. By the time we left, the place was totally happening, with diners enjoying themselves at every table. I think we'd go often if we lived in Armonk, with and without the kids. read more

The Mrs. And I went to M.B. Today for for a combo occasion( Mother's Day & BDay) . We both got our day. We have not complaints, everything went well from service , to our 3 course meal . Plenty of space to park, at the front & back . We booked reservation for 12 as soon they opened. Good thing we did, by 12:45 it got packed , the local customers comes in, the patients from the center comes in plus it's lunch time for some workers. The seating area is comfy and cozy. We ordered: fried calamari, grilled octopus . So good, cooked and seasoned well, not dry or chewy , just right. The Mrs. Had the Cuban sandwich , nicely pressed with golden crisp on the bread. You can taste every ingredients in the Cuban in every bite. I had to order 2 entree the fish taco & salmon burger. Loved it! Good amount portion on both entrees. The fish battered had flavors , the cod was juicy wrapped in a soft tortilla . The salmon was moist with avocado topping on a brioche bun. Then we ordered the dulce de leche pudding & lemon biscotti . It was worth it. The pudding was soft and fluffy, topped with almonds . The biscotti went well with my Irish coffee . The amount of food we ate; plus I had 2 alcoholic drinks. The total was under 200. We definitely have to come back for dinner! Til next time! read more

Having the day off and certainly not wanting to cook the day after Christmas we decided to find someplace somewhat local to lunch. We wanted a place we had never been to before and that was decorated for the holidays. After a quick YELP search a few days prior, I made an OPEN Table reservation as I expected most people to be off for the day. The restaurant has an open and spacious design with lots of wood and hanging lights. There is a huge parking lot in back of the restaurant where you enter to a small outdoor patio and then into the restaurant. We were greeted by a gentlemen who was behind the bar. After confirming our reservation, he asked where we wanted to sit. They have two levels with the second level having a dining area on one side and on the other side has multiple ceiling to floor wooden wine storage cabinets. While the first floor dining area is spacious it still felt cozy and the booth was very comfortable. When we arrived, there was only two other tables but by the time we left the restaurant all the first floor tables were full. Looks like everyone had the same idea as us. I can't say whether all those people had reservations or not but glad we made them. A lunch menu is offered with appetizers, salads, sandwiches as well as a few dinner type entrees. After reviewing the menu, we decided to pick two sandwiches and share as both of them were appealing to use. The Barn Burger which is their signature burger was cooked medium as requested served with garlic parsley fries. The burger came with caramelized onions, gruyere cheese and bacon. It was juicy and delicious. The smoked beef brisket was smothered in a delicious barbecue sauce with a vinegar coleslaw on the other side of the brioche bun. We opted for a salad instead of fries with this sandwich. The brisket was outstanding, very flavorful and arrived hot. I would recommend both the burger and brisket. Skip the salad, nothing outstanding about it, mesclun greens with a light vinegarette. Go for the fries, they were delicious. The winter sangria and apple crisp bourbon cocktails were a good pour and we enjoyed both with our meal. Both sandwiches were hearty so no room for dessert which was unfortunate as the dessert menu had many good options. Service was sporadic, everything took longer than it should have to get menus, drinks, food and attention of wait staff when extra napkins, water, etc. was needed. Haven't been here in years and it didn't disappoint! We went on a Saturday not realizing they serve brunch- and the menu was so good I had a hard time deciding what to get. Finally settled on the smoked salmon eggs Benedict and it was the best I've had. What a waste of my money. There were six of us for a birthday dinner and the service was so slow that it took us 3 1/2 hours to eat. We sat there trying to flag our server to bring us our food after an hour and a half. The food left much to be desired. Everything from the appetizers to the main course and dessert. I went here for restaurant week dinner last weekend with a friend. The decor was stunning inside and out. There were even chandeliers in the outdoor area. Service was good. The staff checked to see how we were doing about every 10-15 min. The menu noted which dishes were gluten-free which was handy for those who had that dietary restriction. Shrimp bisque had an excellent base that captured the shrimp flavor without being too salty. The bread was perfect for wiping up the last drops. There were 3 whole shrimps in the soup along with a few croutons and a sprinkle of tarragon. Salmon was different than others I had in the past (mostly Atlantic type). It had noticeably less fat content, was less flaky and a bit more dense. Flavor was more delicate. Hazelnuts provided a satisfying crunch. Kabocha sauce was ok, but didn't do much for the dish for me. Pumpkin cheesecake was fantastic. Cheesecake had a good ratio of pumpkin flavor to cheese cake filling. The cranberry compote and vanilla créme fraîche went well with the pumpkin cheesecake and were delicious alone. Accents of the crisp pumpkin seeds were a nice touch. I'll definitely stop by the next time I'm in the area, especially for another restaurant week meal. read more

Hard to believe the space was a furniture store before it became a top notch restaurant. We have been here every couple of years and it has been great on every visit. This weekend it was 3 of us for Sunday brunch. I had The Westchester which is sausage, bacon, eggs, toast and home fries. All were great except the home fries which were undercooked and under seasoned. The pancakes looked great and were a good-sized serving. Our friend eating them raved! I remember this place being better, but today's lunch was not very good. My BLT arrived with obviously burned bread (pretending to be grill marks), tired broken up bacon, and avocado(???), along with tomato, and lettuce. the sandwich was very thick, unwieldy, and impossible to eat unless taken apart. The combination of the burned bread taste, the old bacon, and soggy avocado made this sandwich close to inedible. No one asked if everything was okay along the way and when i volunteered later that I didn't like burned bread, the waiter said "That's okay". Huh??? My friends all had salads...and they were pretty disappointing also. What's up with this place? read more
