The pop-up operated from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and we showed up at 9:45 a.m., the line was already down the block. There were three burrito options on the pop-up menu: - Chx colorado: mild chile CA red sauce, mayocoba, jack cheese - Huitlacoche: shiitakes and oyster mush, jack cheese, black beans - Bean & cheese: frijoles negros, cheddar, red + green sauce Of the three options, my wife and I ordered a huitlacoche and bean & cheese burrito. Our friend ordered one of the chicken burritos so I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to try all three. Of the three burritos, it was honestly hard to choose a favorite because each one was so different in taste. I will have to say though, the bean & cheese burrito, despite being the most "normal" one of the bunch, seemed to be the one that everyone would order again out of the three. The star of the show for me though was the tortillas. The tortillas were toothsome and were grilled to perfection. I'll definitely have to pick up a pack next time I'm shopping down the street at Berkeley Bowl. If you're able to catch Xulo at a pop-up, I would definitely make room in your schedule to do so. The burritos here are delicious.

Similar to my previous review for Year of the Snake, Xulo was the Saturday pop up off 8th Street in Berkeley with a few different burrito menu options for the day including their notable bean & cheese, a meat option, and veggie option. Omg, what a treat! Everyone was so incredibly nice, and you could tell they have a really special thing going. They were selling their hot sauce too, and that was fire! I would love to try more items, but it's so hard to say no to the classic bean and cheese. It's just such a classic and when done correctly, chef's kiss! I'll have my eye out for their next pop-up in the area, and will most def be purchasing those tortillas. On their website it lists markets that sell the packaged tortillas like Picnic in Albany and Berkeley Bowl..nice!

We also got two egg sandwiches: the veggie sandwich had grilled cabbage smothered in gochujang sauce that was packed with flavor, and the bacon sandwich was equally delicious. Even the herby mayonnaise won us over, and we're usually not mayo people at all. Beyond the food, the whole experience just felt special. The community vibes were rad, everyone seemed genuinely happy to be there, and it had that perfect neighborhood pop-up energy.

Egg pals is making fresh and delicious breakfast sandwiches and sides made to order they use some locally sourced ingredients, their bread on the sando was super memorable. I got the "Egg Pal"- two fried eggs, bacon, american cheese, pickled red onions, herby mayo, starter bricohe bun. Let me tell you I could eat 5, they are so good especially with the hot sauce on the side (made in Oakland!!) Eggs and bacon were crisp, egg was runny. I'm such a fan! You have to wait a minute since it's a popular stand, but worth the wait for sure. This breakfast sandwich is so good. I think about it and can't wait to go back!

It would have been better over mashed potatoes instead of fries. Gravy over oxtail was good! Wished we got more oxtail. Our serving did not look like their photo on bill board. I've been on the hunt for great barbecue in the East Bay for a while now. In my opinion, Everett &…read moreJones has gone downhill, and I still miss the old Flint's, so I was excited to finally try Heads & Tails. My dining companion and I each ordered the one-meat, two-sides combo and shared everything so we could sample a variety of dishes. I chose the half rack of ribs, while he ordered the brisket. We tried the beans, shells and cheese, Brussels sprouts, and potato salad. The biggest positive was the quality of the meat itself. Both the ribs and brisket were excellent cuts, cooked well and tender. That said, neither had the deep smokiness I look for in great barbecue. On our way out, I noticed a table enjoying the Beef ribs, which looked insanely delicious! Falling off the bone and massive. The sides were a mixed bag. The standout for both of us was definitely the beans, which had generous chunks of meat, bits of vegetables, and lots of flavor. The shells and cheese were fine, but a little bland. The potato salad was good enough, just not particularly memorable. Unfortunately, the Brussels sprouts were our least favorite. We were really excited to try them, but they didn't taste much like roasted Brussels sprouts at all. They came with a chimichurri sauce and ended up tasting oddly bitter. The biggest disappointment was the barbecue sauce. If there were multiple sauce options, nobody mentioned them to us. The sauce we were given was much too sweet for my taste and didn't complement the meat particularly well. On the plus side, the atmosphere was great. The World Cup was on several large TVs, the place was packed with energy, and the drinks were solid. I had a spiked strawberry lemonade that was delicious, and my friend enjoyed his Arnold Palmer. A special shoutout to our server, Nikki, who was fantastic. She was friendly, honest about the menu, and really added to the experience. Overall, I'd come back for the quality of the meat and the lively atmosphere, but I'd love to see bolder flavors in the sides and more sauce options. Good barbecue can be hard to find, and while Heads & Tails doesn't quite scratch that itch for me yet, it definitely shows promise.
