Maple beavertail with chocolate drizzle
Priyanka S.

While browsing some of the shops when visiting Banff, we stumbled upon Beaver tails. The shop itself is on the smaller side with no seating inside and take out only, and the line was quite long. That being said the line moved relatively fast, I'd say we only waited around 10 minutes before we were able to order. When we got to the front of the line we decided to order the Maple beaver tail which comes with maple glaze as well as a chocolate drizzle. The worker highly recommended this one and it did not disappoint. The base tasted like a long fried donut which was light and airy and the topping tasted like maple glaze with warm fudge drizzle. It was delicate and delicious without feeling overly greasy!

I had to check out BeaverTails while I was in Canada since I know it's a Canadian spot. I was told to try the original flavor first and I'm glad I did! It tasted just like the cereal Cinnamon Toast Crunch in the best way possible. So crispy, sweet, and satisfying. This location is a takeaway-only setup with no indoor seating, but it's perfect for grabbing a quick treat while exploring. They also serve ice cream and a variety of other sweet dessert options if you're craving more. I'll definitely check out another location and try a different flavor next time. A must try if you spot one.

It's delicious, trust me. It's not going to be the most innovative or life changing dessert, but it's a delicious crunchy dough topped with sweets and it's Canadian! Can't get better than that. We tried both beavertails on Main Street just for a quality check :p our favorite was the pistachio. No seating inside, it's more of a grab and beavertail outta there, walk while you eat. Service was quick, there were only two people working inside at the time we went and lots of customers. They were killing it.

The line was out the door for the pastry with ice cream but we just wanted the ice cream so feel free to jump ahead of most people. Husband had the salty caramel ice cream. I'm not an ice cream fan but I did have a couple of bites of his. The ice cream was smooth with lots of toppings. Very caramel-y. We got it to go. In fact, I'm pretty sure there were no tables inside but there were some outside tables and sidewalk benches where you could enjoy your dessert.

Very busy, casual place and always with a line. It was crowded and we had to stand in line for a bit. But I guess it allows you to have enough time to decide what to get. It's a Canadian classic so of course we had to try it. It's a flat dough in the shape of a beaver's tail. You have the options of getting toppings on top. I really enjoyed the pistachio one. A must try in Canada.

Yummy stop after a snowy trip from Lake Louise. Warm pistachios with chocolate on a crisp flat bread! Service was so so. No tables to sit inside more like a grab and go place. There's one outdoor table with seating but it was too cold to sit outside. A great touristy stop!

First time at BeaverTails and I can not wait to go again. Stopped in around 8:30pm while walking down Banff Ave and ordered the "Avalanche", it was so good I wanted to back for another one. The cashier was helpful with the recommendation and the tail came out very fast.

Quick service, line was short here (long at the one across the street just becuz that side is busier). We got an original & it was so good! We really enjoyed it, very surprised it was so tasty! Got a pistachio hot cocoa - just pistachio sauce & nuts on top of cocoa - a little off putting but I liked it because I love pistachio! If you don't want to eat a mouthful of nuts, get a regular one.

These things are legit sweet treat, me and my girls enjoyed them and are sad we can't get them here back in the States. They have multiple locations in Banff, staff was friendly, there was usually seating outside. Would definitely come back next time we visit.

When in Canada, you have to try a beaver tail (flattened donut with toppings) at least once. What better place to try it than a place actually called Beaver Tails? They have multiple locations, including both Banff and Canmore. I got the Killaloe Sunrise, which is the flattened donut topped with cinnamon + sugar + lemon juice. I have never had lemon juice with cinnamon + sugar, and liked it quite a bit. The fried dough was made to order, so was super crispy. You cannot go wrong with fried anything with sugar.

BeaverTails Review First time in Banff, we had to try the iconic BeaverTails, and they did not disappoint! Think of them like elephant ears from the States, but so much better. Made fresh right in front of you, they're served hot and perfectly crispy. My son had the classic cinnamon and sugar, and my mom tried the apple pie flavor--both were absolutely delicious! For me, the classic was just right: simple, sweet, and satisfying. If you're in the area trying BeaverTails is an absolute must!

What a surprise on how delicious this simple concept was. We got the Nutella with banana and it was dang good. It wasn't overwhelming at all and the perfect bite everytime. This was delicious and worth the try. They had different selections of ice cream as well which was nice. Give it a try if you are in town..

Triple Trip (Chocolate hazelnut spread, peanut butter, and Reese's Pieces)

For those of you who don't know, like I didn't at first, a Beaver Tail is a fried dough pastry, simply in the shape of a beaver tail. The classic is covered in cinnamon sugar (similar to a churro, but bigger), and they have a ton of different toppings! You can get a hazelnut spread, vanilla icing, cheesecake spread, with Oreo crumble, Reese's Pieces, brownie chunks, apples or bananas on top. The combinations are endless, which made it really hard for me to choose one (haha). It is a tiny location, with some seating outside, but it is definitely more of a grab and go spot. This is a chain, but it is very popular, because every time we passed it, there was a long line. This gave me some time to decide which Beaver Tail to get. I ended up going with the Triple Trip (Chocolate hazelnut spread, peanut butter, and Reese's Pieces). It was delicious! My husband said it was too sweet/rich, but what else would you expect!?

Soup Sandwiches to the rescue!!…read more After a day of hiking and exploring in the Mountains, we were tired, sore, and hangry. Noshing throughout the day we were set on a good soup and sandwich combo. We checked multiple locations and either it was high-end foo foo or just more than we want or just worse. It was pub grub and they had one soup and they weren't sure what it was. We found Wild Flour. They offer multiple soups and sandwiches and a few treats. Kathy selected a carrot fennel bowl (massive) and served with fresh bread and butter, I had a meat and cheese grilled cheese on a focaccia bread, Of course we "shar-zies" and the comfort was enjoyed. The team at 630pm was helpful and prompt guided us as we had not eaten at Wild Flour. Good food, reasonably priced for Banff is a find. Go to Wild Flour and enjoy... we did.

Really nice little cafe with excellent pastries…read more I had the almond croissant. Crispy with tons of almonds and a decent almond flavour. The almond paste is to die for - clearly amongst the best. Sweet and rich but not too sweet. Clearly they bake it themselves and it's very substantial. I tried the apple pie cinnamon oat tea latte. Yes the name is a mouthful. It is an amazing drink. Wonderful taste! Good place to stop by and hang out in the morning. Not crowded and people are just hanging out on their laptops etc.

Beavertails came up and we saw they had shops within Banff, so we decided to try them out after our lunch. They had a flavor called "mEHple" and since maple syrup is also a Canada staple, we figured this would be a good pick. What we didn't notice was the chocolate drizzle that was on top of the maple syrup in the menu photo. The chocolate overwhelmed the entire dessert, and was a bit too much for our group. The pastry was good, crispy and flaky, but we really couldn't get through the entire thing without getting a huge bite of chocolate syrup. I think if they had put less chocolate, or even removed the chocolate altogether and just left the maple syrup, that would've been way better!

Since maple is also something that screams Canada, we opted for the mEHple flavor. Unfortunately, it was a bit of a letdown. The pastry itself was good as it was light and flaky but still crispy, and we enjoyed the maple flavor. However, there was so much chocolate drizzled onto it that all we could taste was the overwhelming Hershey's chocolate drizzle-like taste. We didn't notice the chocolate drizzle on the menu photo, although I noticed there are a few different menus floating around, and some show the chocolate drizzle while others don't. However I saw a photo uploaded from a different Yelper of their mEHple pastry, and they had way less chocolate on theirs. I think it had to potential to be delicious, but it's just unfortunate that it was loaded with so much chocolate to the point where we couldn't really taste anything else. There were 6 of us that shared one BeaverTail and yet we couldn't even finish it. Overall, it was cool to try a uniquely Canadian dessert, but would recommend staying away from the ones with chocolate drizzle...or at least asking the staff to go light on the drizzle.

The plate featured two perfectly cooked over-easy eggs, sourdough toast with blackberry jam, crispy potatoes, and the best bacon I've ever tasted. They even took the time to get me gluten-free bread to eat with the beat hummus since I couldn't eat whatever bread that is served with it For me, it's important that since they already have gluten-free products that they could just substitute it that way so I could enjoy my meal and not get sick I found them to be exceptionally accommodating for me Everything was delicious I like the fire pit outside good place to wait for your table to open I like that they take your cell phone number and you can walk around and they'll text you when your table is ready so this way you don't feel like you're wasting any time My nephew got the duck that was delicious my sister got the steak sirloin. It was also delicious and had little tiny mini salt crystals on it which gave it a lot of flavor. My only slight disappointment was the choice of background music. It had too much of a 12345678 up beat to it. When they play music with this kind of a tempo, you can definitely see all of the waiters and waitresses walking to the beat of the music, but I think it also rushes people in eating and digestion. It makes people hurry up because you could literally see people chewing to the beat of the music I don't even know if the Restaurant realizes the psychology behind the choice of music But overall, I enjoyed everything I came there to eat and everything tasted good for me. I just would've had a different choice to music preference

One of the best things about Banff Ave Brewing is that all appetizers are half off on Fridays (at least during happy hour)! They also have a nice selection of beers. Their flights are neat in that they offer 6 options instead of the more typical 4, so you can try everything you want to try. We had the nachos, poutine, and several beers. The poutine was a bit salty but the nachos were excellent, definitely get the beer cheese sauce as an add-on. I also got to try a special dragonfruit kolsch they had on tap, which was really mild and easy drinking as well. I'll definitely be back when I'm in Banff again!
