It's the touristy thing to do when in this area. BeaverTails is Canadian snack shop with locations throughout Canada and with a few shops in the USA. It's kind of like a flat churro, or a sweet flatbread that is fried. We tried their Classic BeaverTail with cinnamon and sugar. It was good like a churro and raised up my glucose level to pre-diabetic levels. Half of one was enough for the entire week. They had other flavors or toppings like bananas, pistachios and more. If sweet isn't your thing, they do have savory as they can make you a beaver dog, or a hot dog wrapped in their fried dough. The classic was good and messy. It is worth trying if your blood glucose level allows you.

There were two locations in downtown Banff that were absolutely packed and filthy due to the lack of staff and overwhelming amount of tourists. We saw a location here in downtown Canmore and it was a much less crowded area. We tried their traditional Beavertail and a traditional poutine. The fried dough was topped with cinnamon sugar and tasted like churro dough; it's alright and exactly like you would expect. The poutine was also fine; tasted per expectations and nothing amazing. The cheese curds literally came out of a plastic bag that the staff cut open and dumped on the fries; not impressed. Overall, this is just a touristy spot but isn't mind blowing in any way.

A true Canadian dessert delicacy... it was just alright! I'm a big maple fan and this certainly hit the spot. I knocked off a couple stars because the inside of the restaurant seemed really dirty. The countertops and bins that the food was in were caked in massive amounts of the toppings. The cashier also seemed really overwhelmed and just tried to get through the line - so not very personable. The treat however, was delicious.

Friendly staff and accommodating to our requests to customize from the menu items. It's a little pricey but the texture, flavor and gooeyness makes it all worth it. The shop is small with one tall table for standing only. No seating area. There's a sink to wash your hands after all the stickiness from the finger licking goodness. They have a few locations around Canada.

We had to try beavertails while visiting the area and this spot was great! I got the coco vanil which had vanilla and chocolate sauce with Oreos on the fried dough. It's a huge serving and made fresh. The staff were very helpful and told us the popular flavors. There are a few tables outside to eat at with a beautiful view of the mountains!

A made to order deep fried donut thats in a flattened shape like a beaver tail! I appreciate how customizable these things are! You can get so many different toppings and even add a scoop of ice cream on top! We did the bananarama which is nutella with sliced bananas and a sprinkle of powered sugar, so freaking delicious! It smells like heaven when you walk inside. It was a decent size so I shared with my husband. The inside of this establishment is pretty small and cute inside! The service was super friendly and she was patient and explained the menu and concept to us since we had never been before. It's definitely worth a try if you are craving something sweet.

3.5 stars If anything give a beaver tail a go around at least once. It's a dessert chain that serves a puff pastry in a shape of a beaver's tail but you can customize yours and they are made to order. So they come out piping hot and fresh! My sister and I shared an apple pie one and it was delicious and the apples were so fresh. It does get messy, so it's nice they have a sink to wash your hands. If it's your first time having a beaver tail you can ring the bell! They also sell poutine and ice cream.

Order at the counter and wait for your tail.

Mmmmm. SO Happy I read about this place ahead of staying in Canmore and made the time to get one while I was in town. This is a chain around town (there's one in Banff too). We stopped in for one on a way back from a hike as a post hike treat, and boy was it. Two of us decided to split one, and even though it was super rich and one filled up both of us, I sort of wished we had gotten two just so we could have tried more flavors! Settled on a CocoVanil and it was sooo yummy. They fry up the tail fresh, so it takes a couple of minutes to make, and then they add all the toppings fresh. I had planned on taking it home and waiting a little before eating but it looked so yummy fresh that I just had to dig right in.

Happened to find on Facebook that they were offering FREE Beavertails 3-5PM for 1 day only. We stopped into the store and they also had the advertisement for free up so it was legit! I thought they would have made 1/2 size ones for the freebies but they were FULL sized. Fresh, crispy dough. Generous cinnamon and sugar sprinkle. Definitely large enough to share as after a full one we all felt pretty greasy. Tastes just like carnival mini donut.  10/10 was happy with the size and service at this location.  We also tried the ice cream. Sadly I can't remember the name but it was vanilla ice cream with chocolate and caramel swirls. Was great. Friend got the Blueberry Bliss and had real cream cheese mini bites.

Okay, if you're in Canada you've got to try a beavertail pastry, right? Besides it being a nice treat, the name is fun. There's not much to this little stand but I got a classic beavertail with cinnamon and sugar and ate it outside. They have numerous options of toppings but I stayed with the classic. They also had other food items like ice cream, fries and even a beaver dog (hot dog wrapped in dough).

The beaver tail gets a 5 star, however the only thing I wish was different about this establishment is no washroom, and it's very tiny and crammed. But I will always stop for an avalanche beavertail nonetheless

Canadian specialty. It's a sweet bread with Nutella or whatever you order. I love the bananarama!

Went here every day of my weeklong vacation. The best desert you can get when in Banff/Canmore.

He and the excellent Chicago hot wings make Fergus & Bix worth more than one late night Happy Hour visit. The wings are marinaded, fried, dipped then baked - perfect. I'm a little beer snobby, but my spouse says the in-house Wooden Ship beers are good. Great place to watch sports too. Lots of TVs but not too intrusive if you're not interested. Ambiance is warm and relaxed. Happy Hour offers some nice choices, and is twice per day every day as is the norm in this tourist town. Definitely recommended for folks who want a pleasant adult atmosphere. You also avoid excessively intoxicated and rowdy revellers. They're over at the corner of Rose & Crown and Drake.

Upon arrival, we were provided with a liquor menu but not a full food menu, and were directed to order from the happy hour menu. This created a bit of confusion at first, but we made the best of it. We ordered the Beer Board, which included a selection of sausages, Italian meats, cheeses, and pretzel bread. It was well put together, with good variety and satisfying portions--great for a late-night bite. Overall, while the experience wasn't exceptional, it was a decent stop considering the circumstances. It served its purpose and provided a solid option when not much else was available. That said, the bar itself is pretty decent. Carries some ambiance --perhaps a place you'd hang out for a few drinks.

Beavertails came up and we saw they had shops within Banff, so we decided to try them out after our lunch. They had a flavor called "mEHple" and since maple syrup is also a Canada staple, we figured this would be a good pick. What we didn't notice was the chocolate drizzle that was on top of the maple syrup in the menu photo. The chocolate overwhelmed the entire dessert, and was a bit too much for our group. The pastry was good, crispy and flaky, but we really couldn't get through the entire thing without getting a huge bite of chocolate syrup. I think if they had put less chocolate, or even removed the chocolate altogether and just left the maple syrup, that would've been way better!

Since maple is also something that screams Canada, we opted for the mEHple flavor. Unfortunately, it was a bit of a letdown. The pastry itself was good as it was light and flaky but still crispy, and we enjoyed the maple flavor. However, there was so much chocolate drizzled onto it that all we could taste was the overwhelming Hershey's chocolate drizzle-like taste. We didn't notice the chocolate drizzle on the menu photo, although I noticed there are a few different menus floating around, and some show the chocolate drizzle while others don't. However I saw a photo uploaded from a different Yelper of their mEHple pastry, and they had way less chocolate on theirs. I think it had to potential to be delicious, but it's just unfortunate that it was loaded with so much chocolate to the point where we couldn't really taste anything else. There were 6 of us that shared one BeaverTail and yet we couldn't even finish it. Overall, it was cool to try a uniquely Canadian dessert, but would recommend staying away from the ones with chocolate drizzle...or at least asking the staff to go light on the drizzle.
