We couldn't miss out on trying this iconic Canadian dessert, so we had to stop by during our downtown Banff shopping session. Since maple is also something that screams Canada, we opted for the mEHple flavor. Unfortunately, it was a bit of a letdown. The pastry itself was good as it was light and flaky but still crispy, and we enjoyed the maple flavor. However, there was so much chocolate drizzled onto it that all we could taste was the overwhelming Hershey's chocolate drizzle-like taste. We didn't notice the chocolate drizzle on the menu photo, although I noticed there are a few different menus floating around, and some show the chocolate drizzle while others don't. However I saw a photo uploaded from a different Yelper of their mEHple pastry, and they had way less chocolate on theirs. I think it had to potential to be delicious, but it's just unfortunate that it was loaded with so much chocolate to the point where we couldn't really taste anything else. There were 6 of us that shared one BeaverTail and yet we couldn't even finish it. Overall, it was cool to try a uniquely Canadian dessert, but would recommend staying away from the ones with chocolate drizzle...or at least asking the staff to go light on the drizzle.

One of the local delicacies that people online recommended trying in Banff was Beavertails, which is fried dough with toppings that is shaped in the form of a beaver's tail. The store itself is pretty small with a long line that goes outside, so it's a place where you definitely get it to go. They have some interesting flavors with ones with maple syrup, strawberry cheesecake, etc. but they also have savoury versions with poutine as well. We decided to get the mEHple beavertail with a chocolate drizzle on them, and I think it was a good choice! The pastry itself comes out freshly baked so it's really warm, and the maple flavor it had was delicious. It's a pretty large portion size so it's good to share with someone else, but I can definitely see why these are highly recommended. Highly recommend checking out if you're in Banff!

You just have to try it to find out (but also maybe my partner and I just love sweets). We even tried the other beavertails location as a quality check :D The pistachio was my personal favorite, and I would get it again. They were super quick. It's a small place and there's limited seating outside. It's more of a grab and go type of situation. Overall, if this is your first time in Canada, I would recommend.
This place was so overcrowded every time we walked by, the lines were out the door. We ended up getting 3 ice creams all refreshing and delicious. 1) Strawberry sorbet - refreshing 2) Lemon lavender - refreshingly tart I loved this the most. 3) Chocolate - classic and not that sweet.
Look, let's be honest. It's not like this place is life changing but this is an iconic Canadian food so we had to try it. Pretty simple menu, with the beavertail and a variety of toppings, mostly of the ice cream variety. If you're not starved, one beavertail is sufficient. Although the beavertail itself is light and airy, with the ice cream, it's quite the heavy dessert. We tried the apple, caramel, and vanilla and liked the apple the best. Gave it an apple pie type vibe. Definitely recommend you try it once if you see one!
Great service! You pay first then go ahead and go down to get your beavertail. No ice cream was available this time but no problem, Cows was nearby. A little crowded at this one, so I recommend going to the other on the other street. For tourists like myself, Beavertails are like a super flat crunchy churro with whatever yummy stuff you want on top.
This spot caught our eye walking through Banff, we noticed a lot of their customers eating on the street and of course we had to try it. We got their avalanche and their pistachio. Both were great! The avalanche lives up to its name though because it it's messy! The pistachio was really good, and it was a delicious dessert option. I really liked the pastry base. Service was decent, they gave our pastry to another customer who cut in front of us while waiting. It's a bit chaotic inside since it's so busy but still a good experience.
Came here twice during our week visit to Banff and Jasper national Park and we are obsessed. Yes there's a line but it moves really fast and it is totally worth the sweet treats that await inside! Storefront is basic but very cute. We went to the one on the main street and again the next day. A local delight that should be experienced.

We stopped by BeaverTails after dinner for a little sweet treat and even though the line looked pretty long, it moved surprisingly fast! We waited around 8-10 minutes, which wasn't bad at all. This was my first time trying BeaverTails. We ordered the Classic, Pistachio-Oh, and Mepleh. They came out hot and fresh, and the texture was AMAZING. The edges were perfectly crispy and crunchy, while the middle was soft and chewy. That contrast? So good. All three flavors were delicious, but since we're in Canada, I had to give the Mepleh some extra love. read more
the dunkin donuts of canada stopped by here for a post lunch sweet treat. was pleasantly surprised. tried the mehple. found the beaver tail form factor to the be quite cute. they loaded it up with maple glaze/crystals and chocolate syrup. it's sweetness is on par with an American doughnut. They don't drain the beavertail super well, so it was a tad geasy. Nonetheless, it was hot and delicious. gobbled it up pretty quickly. read more

I do not know how I have lived my entire life without knowing what a Beavertail is. This is what I would consider to be the perfect dessert. It is sweet and warm, but not too heavy. It was like a churro and a funnel cake, but it wasn't at the same time. I'm trying to explain an experience that to me was so incredibly unique. The inside of the shop was tiny and they have what I would consider a small to medium size menu. They have knickknacks that you can buy ice cream and different Beavertail flavors that you can choose from. The people taking your order were fast. They have seen all the people in the world because they take your order and move you on, you are never waiting long for that hot crispy goodness. read more

I'm usually not a big fan of donuts, but I wanted to try since everyone raves about the beaver tails here. I also found the name to be interesting. This was very delicious. Tasted like a funnel cake but a different shape. When it was fresh, it was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I got the maple and bacon flavor. I would definitely say it is on the sweeter end for those who do not have as much of a sweet tooth as I do. The bacon bits were good but can be a bit overwhelming as there were too many of them. Flavor was great, however, perfect sweet and savory flavor if you're into that. Quick and good service. This place was located in Banff town so no doubt you will have good views of the mountains. read more

When in Banff, you got to stop at BeaverTails for this sweet treat. It is like a flattened donuts smeared with your toppings of choice. I had the pistachio and honey. It is good, but very sweet and messy to eat. They hand it to you in a half opened bag. I had to ask for a box because it was too much to eat at once. It was empty when I went at night and took a couple of minutes to make. read more
When in Banff, try the beaver tail! Luckily on the Main Street, there's a few locations, so you can pick up multiple as you're walking the town!! They have so many flavors, it was difficult to choose! Went with the maple of course, and it did not disappoint! Imagine the bite as a flat, crispy maple donut. My new favorite treat and the little birdie that stole it- Fried flattened pastry covered with cinnamon and sugar! There are variety of other options you can get as toppings. The price is a deal around $7-8. They also offer ice cream and hot tea. read more
Okay, I get the hype, SO DARN GOOD. They fry it FRESHHH. The beaver tail is crispy, especially along the edges. The taste and texture reminds me of a funnel cake, maybe morphed with a donut. I just love it. I got to try the mEHple and pistach-OH, both of which were AMAZING. I liked the maple one the most. If I had more time in Canada, I'd try every flavor I could lol. This sweet treat is an absolute delight, and I'm going to miss eating it. The shop is small, and the inside smells like doughy goodness. The workers are friendly, and they are fast! read more
Why 4 stars? Because it's everything you hope and expect it to be. --- --- --- Sweetened bread with a bunch of tasty toppings on top - how can you go wrong? We only came here once and we wanted to come back again, but there were just too many great dessert options in town to visit the same place twice. I definitely wanted to try a few different items on the menu, but opted for the Maple concoction and added some Salted Caramel ice cream to pair it with. I really liked the Maple, but thought the Salted Caramel was more just like Caramel. The salt is really what sets it over the edge for me, hence my underwhelmed reaction. The biggest negative about the experience is that there is no seating inside. We would have happily eaten it outside, but they only had a couple of tables + it was rainy and cold. So we huddled in the corner and scarfed down our treats while standing only a few feet away from the line of customers and the employee behind the counter taking orders. On a nice summer night, this is probably the place to be. I'm sure the lines get pretty crazy then, though. Still, you should definitely try BeaverTails once if you are staying in Banff. read more

We stopped by at 3 pm on Saturday, 9/21/24, and the line was pretty long, but it moved quickly and we didn't have to wait too long for our order. They have beaver tails (fried dough in the shape of a beaver tail with toppings) and ice cream. No seating inside and barely any room for even a line. You order at the counter and step away to wait. They call out the items ordered, not names, so really anyone could take your order. Not the greatest system. We got the Bananarama (CA$7.45). My husband and toddler and I split it. It was a tasty treat after a day of hiking. Glad to have tried it once. read more

Was craving a sweet treat after dinner and my friend recommended this place! I tried a pistachio beaver tail and it was definitely a unique dessert experience. The bread was warm and crispy, while the pistachio cream had an authentic flavor and I liked the added nuts on top as well. read more

Quick service. No wait. Hot and freshly made. Nice to try once. It's oily and some parts of the "beaver tail" was too crisp. The bananas were a nice touch to cut the oily taste. I only wish the bananas were patted down a bit so it wouldn't easily fall off! We had 2 casualties while eating this dessert. I think I would really enjoy this on a nan actually! $6.02 USD read more

Spent the day in Banff and heard that BeaverTails is a must-try Canadian dessert destination. I had no idea what to expect and I'm glad I didn't ruin the surprise by looking it up beforehand. I could smell the fried pastry from afar. There was a long line at both downtown Banff locations, but they moved pretty quickly. There were so many flavors to choose from and additional sugary toppings to add on, but a poster of a limited-time special caught my eye, and boy, am I glad it did. The special was a pistachio honey beavertail and that's exactly what I ordered. I love desserts, but I don't like overly sweet desserts and loading on tons and tons of sugar, which is why I opted out of putting a scoop of ice cream and other toppings on top of my beavertail. It was sugary enough as it was and a cozy treat to enjoy on a chilly day. There was pistachio paste, drizzled honey, and ground-up pistachio sprinkled atop. The beavertail itself was a hot and fresh piece of fried dough, which made the pistachio paste and honey runny (not a bad thing), so I'd recommend grabbing some napkins to wipe up. You know a dessert is very good when there's a fight over who gets the last bite or who ate most of it. One beavertail was perfect for two people, but I could have easily devoured the whole thing by myself. No wonder BeaverTails is popular! read more

BeaverTails is a place not to be missed whenever you are in downtown Banff, where all the shopping and restaurants are. This is not a very big place and is quite cramped. They say good things come in small packages and BeaverTails is the prime example of that! They serve fried pastry, ice cream, and of course poutine. I decided to skip dinner and get a fried pastry with pistachio , and boy it did not disappoint! It's sweet, savory, and so crunchy! The service was on the slower side, there was only 2 people in front of me but it took a total of 10 mins before I get to munch on my dessert, but it was definitely worth the wait! read more
