I love you Beavers Donuts. You and your cute powdered self. So small yet so damn tasty and so soft that you melt in my mouth. Just the perfect bite size of happiness. Every time I have these I can't have just one, or two, or three. I need to have the whole box! Last night at the Yelp event, you were there and I tasted the turtle flavored donut. Also delicious but nothing can compare to the powder flavor. If you see this food truck anywhere near you, flag it down and get some! I warn you though - they are highly addictive!
This place is so good that it shouldn't even be legal. First, the people who were working there were super friendly. They were upbeat, quick, and were joking around and making small talk. It was a very pleasant ordering and waiting experience, which I didn't find at other stalls at the French Market. I ordered a Goombah Donut Shake- that is, a shake topped with a donut and filled with cannoli cream and crumbled cannoli chells. The woman who made it recommended adding caramel to it, so I trusted her judgement. This $5.50 was the best money I spent all day at the market. It was so sweet and rich and honestly, everything good in the world. It's impossible to frown while drinking one. I wish I had bought it as a dessert instead of to go with my grilled cheese... But you live and you learn. If you're here, get a shake. You won't regret it, and you'll get a good bang for your buck.
Cute alert! My hubby and I recently stopped by a local Arbor Day festival in our community. The Beavers Coffee & Donuts truck was ready to serve us on a cold, yet sunny Saturday morning. We ordered up mini donut bites. A small order included nine super delicious, lightly crispy, donuts. Free donut toppings included, cinnamon, powdered sugar, and chocolate powder. If you want special toppings, they are an additional charge starting at $1 per topping. We also ordered up a cup of Metropolis Coffee. It was perfect with a smooth finish on a nice cold sunny day. The guys running the truck are super nice and quick to serve.
I go here at least once a month to buy doughnuts for people at work and for the wife. I usually don't eat them because my cholesterol is just too high. I have had the powdered doughnuts and the turtle. All that I have tried are delicious. I also note that the powdered doughnuts are cheap. I can get like 50 for $20.
Ordered a dozen gourmet donuts for 4 people with Funky Monkey toppings and Goombah toppings. Very sweet! They were tasty, but I think eating 2 would've been enough. I liked the Funky Monkey over the Goombah, but probably because I think Cannolis are okay....
Finally, FINALLY came by their donut truck! Overall, I thought it was good but really not anything special. The donut holes were crispy and warm by itself but I think any half decent donut place should be able to do that. I topped my donuts off with half smores and half strawberry nutella but essentially my donuts were just drizzled in all kinds of sauces (chocolate, marshmallow, strawberry, and nutella) and topped with smushed graham crackers. The sauces reminded me of the same ones you would put on your ice cream sundae. After I self-hyped it up for myself, I probably won't be stopping by again. I'm just more of a fan of whole donuts without all these liquid sauces on top!
Disclaimer ... Significant other went to the Ravinia Food Truck night and brought some of these donuts to me at work (just 15 min away). So sweet, I know so perhaps I need to try these fresh from the truck (they were still slightly warm). Had the s'mores and turtle toppings. The turtle was just ok. Not very flavorful considering the chocolate. The S'mores were much better (I will try anything s'mores flavored!) but not the best donut I've ever had but not the worst either. I would hope a donut could handle not being eaten immediately and still be tasty a little after purchasing. My significant other thinks maybe it's just an off night because he said they are normally so much better (that's why he got them for me) but I can only give a review off of what I have tried. I hope to get back to food truck night before the end of the season and hopefully they will be there so I can try them fresh fresh, not 15 min later.
ADDICTED TO DOUGH If I was going to be addicted to anything it would be these tiny donuts. They are truly amazing and are always hot & ready to go. They even sell them to you in a little brown bag, that just feels bad or like I am doing something wrong. I recently got off Metra, after riding on the train for an hour & 40 minutes and cut through the French Market. First that was a big mistake because all of the smells in here are amazing. As I walked by Beavers Donuts, I was pulled in like a tractor beam. There was the cute mini donut conveyor belt machine that makes the donuts. Hot oil just bubbling in the air giving off the scent of deep fried dough. It is a smell that everyone loves. They should bottle that up and sell it. Then there's a giant stack of freshly cooked mini donuts sitting under a heating lamp looking all innocent like a puppy in a window. Maybe I will just get one but the next thing you know you have five and the staff is asking you what would you like them dipped in. The choices are: Cinnamon/Sugar, Powdered Sugar, Chocolate Sugar and Sugar. Can we mix all 4 and make a super sugary donut? I went with the usual and chose the Cinnamon/Sugar mix. The hot fresh naked donuts are then thrown into the bowl and there oily little dough body sucks up the sugary mixture. Then they are put into a little brown bag like some back alley illegal donut deal is about to go down. I walked away with the intentions of bringing them home but I put my hand in the bag and felt the hot donut touch my skin. Maybe I will eat just one. I pop it in my mouth, before I even hit the exit quickly snapping a photo to share my guilty pleasure with all of my social friends. Instant moment of Zen as the flavors hit my tastebuds. I look at the photo and I know I can do better. I pull out the remaining 4 donuts and set up a photo shoot at one of the tables near the exit. I get the perfect shot in one try. Then it hits me. These guys were meant to be eaten hot and fresh. I would be doing a disservice to mini hot donuts everywhere if I shoved them back in the bag. So I did what any good person would do and proceeded to put them away in my mouth one by one. Am I addicted? No I can quit at any time. The problem is that they also have a mobile food truck and I think they may be following me. I have visions of them on every street corner pushing these hot mini delicious circles of sugary coated dough. Why are you haunting me delicious hot mini sugary donut? Why?
Desserts and sugary edibles aren't my favorite, but I gotta say these donuts are truly amazing!! What makes them so good is the fact they are made to order and still hot in the box. If you visit their location in the French Market you can watch them make your order. Their donuts are bite size, similar to DD munchkins so no mess. They have a variety of flavor options (i.e., cinnamon sugar, powdered, chocolate, etc.) which are free and some signature flavors/toppings for a little extra. You can buy single portions (about 4) and larger portions. P.S. They also have a food truck roaming the streets!
I have seen the cutesy Beavers Donuts truck about town, but I have only been to the stand in the French Market. This may be a little known fact, but if you go on your birthday you can get a free box of their donuts. The server's eyes probably bugged out when he verified my birthday on my ID ("oldest dude to get free donuts"), but he calmly served me a fresh box of mini donuts with the "Turtle" flavor (chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, and chopped pecans). I was planning to take the box to go, but I promptly sat down in the communal seating area and gobbled them all down. These treats were gooey and delicious with all of the ingredients slathered over the scrumptious spheres.
We got powdered, chocolate and cinnamon. It's best to have them while the donuts are warm. I got a free donut when I checked in on Yelp. The small donuts were yummy but a bit too small. They should make them larger to truly satisfy big eaters.
My brother and I tried this donut truck after our lovely meal at Big and Little's. Although the specialty donuts looked and sounded tempting, the real showstopper was the classic cinnamon and sugar. The donuts were the perfect fried delivery system for the sugary topping, and the donuts were light and fluffy on the inside. Just perfect. We also ordered the Smores, which were drizzled with chocolate, marshmallow and graham cracker crumbs. The chocolate wasn't that great-- it tasted more like Hershey's syrup from the bottle. So my verdict is -- damn good! But stick to the classics.
The best donut I've ever had. They're not the overwhelming "omg I'm eating the size of my face in trans fat" type of donuts. These are small donut bites and they're absolutely decadent. My coworker and I physically turned around to get more when we first tried them. After a long and crappy morning at work, we needed a pick me up and these were exactly what hit the spot. We got chocolate and cinnamon, honestly I'm sure every single flavor is incredible.

Donuts were delicious. The service was great and they were very fast. The donuts were hot and made to order 10/10. read more
We ordered a mini which came with 4 bites. We were only allowed to choose from the basic toppings: cinnamon, granulated, powered, and chocolate. I like that they're small because you can have more than usual and not feel like a pig that is too full. Everyone that tried them in my party enjoyed them! One of my friends even made the comment "why would you ever go to Dunkin' Donuts if you have this?!" However, what turned me off from this place were the employees. They weren't super friendly and seemed a tad impatient. Maybe this was due to a handful of customers all lining up and ordering at the same time. read more

I'm officially hooked on these freshly made mini donuts. Beavers Donut is located right inside The French Market on Clinton Street. You can even track down a Beaver's Truck online if your carvings gets too bad. The Beavers Blue Trucks are very easily to find on the corners of Chicago Downtown streets. Located in the back of The French Market. I was impressed to watch these deliciously mini donuts fried right before my eyes. Than watch while chocolate caramel nuts and marshallow were drizzle on top. It was heaven sent. I ordered the 9 mini donuts for $5.00 but they charge a $1.00 extra for the special flavor toppings. I tried the Reeses, Smores and Turtle toppings. All 3 flavors had me on a sugar high. Freshly deep fried right in front of you and coated with any toppings of your choice. The prices are well worth a delicious mini yummy treat. I guarantee that its a must I go back and try the other flavors. Very addictive. So, far the turtle and Reeses toppings are my fav. read more

Best Coffee + Best Donuts = Best Day Ever! These guys give me the morning fortitude to challenge the shitstorm days I regularly face armed with a smile and and a great mood! I cannot recommend them highly enough when it comes to heavenly flavored empty carb intake. So if you have a big question mark floating over your head as to whether you're going to have a good day or not, visit these guys! Their mini-donuts are little bite sized deep-fried mouth pleasure bombs where you can decide what topping you want on them. They have messy topping so make sure you get plenty of napkins. I've ended up mostly ordering the cinnamon & sugar because I can wipe the sticky off on my pants. The marshmallow in the s'mores dries white so I stay awake from it even though it's taste is orgasmic! All of this said, I cannot visit them too regularly because I will balloon up to 300+ pounds in a few months, develop diabetes, lose my job, fall into despair, and die a broken man. So I have worked out a shaky system of only visiting them irregularly when my sweet tooth takes over my brain. Regardless, go here and eat with pleasure! They're the best! read more

My two favorite things mixed together...DONUTS and ICE CREAM! A donut milkshake! GENIUS Beavers...genius. I thought it would be gross, but it was delish with just the right sized chunks of donut mixed in with the creamy ice cream. F**KING FANTASTIC. I also got the minis that were drizzled to make the turtle...I think...I cant remember because my brain was all high on SUGAR. Mmmm, donut millkshake...I just picture Homer Simpson...mmmm..... I went to their location in the French market. It's a nice stand, probably the best looking stand in the market. It's a good donut, very small in size so a half dozen is equivalent to 1.5 donuts. They make it fresh so it tastes really nice. But aside from the freshness, there isn't anything special about them. read more

I LOVE BEAVERS DONUTS! They are definitely best fresh when they are airy and hot. They fry them and give them to you hot so they're best if you eat them right away. My all time favorite topping so far is the reese's which has-- you guessed it-- chocolate and peanut butter drizzle. But the free sugar toppings are yummy too. Beavers has mini donuts so it helps you feel like you're getting a bite sized snack while still getting that donut-y goodness. read more

Light, fluffy -- airy donuts with a variety of toppings and a relatively good but not too strong coffee. I didn't dislike the food at all, but it is pricey for what you're getting -- in an area with tons of bakery and donut competition. read more

Why can't you bring your mini donuts of heaven to the suburbs???? So good! I'm not a big dessert person, but when I saw the long line for the truck at the Pilsen Food Truck Social, I assumed it was something I should try out. It was a bit of a wait to get the donuts once you ordered them, but it is well worth it. Those little mini donuts-yes, mini donuts, not donut holes, but actually tiny little donuts-were soooooo delicious! We ordered 9 donuts-half were powdered donuts and half were drizzled with strawberry sauce and Nutella. My husband and I were fighting over the last one. I will track you down again one day, mini donut truck of shock and awe and deliciousness! read more

Zomg! Where has this place been all my life? I thought I knew what a good donut was, until I tried one of their delectable, fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth morsels of chocolately, graham cracker amazingness. I was going to get the chocolate and sprinkles but the guy taking my order told me that was one of their more "boring" choices and recommend the s'mores instead. Woah. It's the kind of good where one second your plate is full and the next second there are only crumbs. Unless you try to eat them all like I did. I got my order from the food truck but the donuts were still pillowy soft. The ingredients are put on the donuts once you order so no sogginess. Not much wait time and prices are very reasonable. I plan on going to the storefront soon so I can enjoy these babies while they're still warm. read more

I've been to the truck at two of their Loop locations (Wabash and Van Buren & Franklin and Calhoun) and I have been super impressed with these delicious donut holes. I'm definitely including Beavers into my weekly donut trips. On my first trip, I sampled their half dozen of the Nutella Dream, which are their donut holes topped with strawberry sauce and Nutella. I got 3 extra with my order. I also checked in on Yelp and got a free plain donut. The guy on the truck told me that they will give a free one to anyone who asks for me. So, I guess you don't have to check in, but let's face it, if you are like me, you will check in anyway. I ate the plain one first - mainly because I wanted to see what they tasted like without any toppings and also because it was on top. It tasted delicious especially since it was still warm after my short walk back to my office. The outside had a slight crunch to it and the dough was light and airy. You can definitely eat several in a row before you even begin to feel the least bit full. On my second trip, I braved the rain and cold to try a half dozen of the Strawberry Bella, which are their donut holes topped with a strawberry sauce and graham cracker crumbs. I preferred this one over Nutella Dream since it was a little less sweet. The graham cracker crumbs added more crunch. Again, the donut holes were cooked well - a little crunchy on the outside and warm and doughy on the inside. The only downside was that I had to walk for quite a while to get to my office and they would have tasted better had I eaten them when they were fresher. Oh, but you can make them last the whole day like I do. I'll snack on some every now and then. Quality wise, they are still OK, but of course, they would be better fresh. The guys on the truck are nice especially for it being super early in the morning when I visit. Price wise, they are definitely more expensive than other donut shops in the Loop. But, it's worth it since they have the best donut holes in the Loop! However, it would be nice if they had an option to do a half dozen split with the regular and gourmet flavors. Bottom line, visit this truck or stop by their French Market location to sample their delicious goodies! read more
I was surprised by the good texture of the donuts even though I didn't get them fresh off the conveyor belt. It was annoying that they didn't tell me they were out of Goombah until after I paid. I ended up getting Reese's, cinnamon sugar, S'mores, and fluffernutter. The flavors were good, but not great. They all seemed to meld together, none of them were distinct. The staff were friendly enough and weren't annoyed it took me awhile to decide what I wanted. read more
Nice addition to the French Market. For some very good reason, the doughnuts here didn't come with the guilt trip that always ensures after I indulge in doughnuts. Maybe it was because the doughnuts were mini. It could also have been because the toppings I chose were not totally smothered with so much sugar glaze. I got a dozen of mini doughnuts and they were still warm when I brought them home in the box. The cinnamon sugar (regular topping) and nutella dream (gourmet topping) were both very good. The texture of the doughnut was just doughy enough. I have to say that the nutella dream doughnuts were a little softer than the cinnamon sugar doughnuts by the time we ate them and I'm pretty sure it was because of the moisture from the nutella and strawberry sauce that were drizzled over it. Nevertheless, they were still very good. A dozen mini doughnuts (1/2 regular, 1/2 gourmet) was $7 flat. read more
