I'm 38 weeks pregnant and was hoping to get a little pampering in before my baby arrives. I haven't done my hair in over 2 years with the exception of trimming it myself at home. Having little kids and trying to get in to a salon in the SF area is a challenge! I decided to give Beauty Fix a call on a whim to see if randomly something was available. Their adorable storefront in Brisbane caught my eye (and the easy parking all around it was super appealing!) Danica was so kind and flexible in making it work for me to get squeezed in- her and Joanne tag-teamed to make it happen. I felt super comfortable, respected, listened to with my hair wishes and overall super satisfied with the high quality of coloring and cut that they gave. I appreciate how diligent Danica was with her cut especially since I know I was added into an already full day. This is an adorable studio with such a bubbly and fun atmosphere, lots of giggling and an overall super positive place to spend 3 hours. I was in a desperate funk. I'm a busy, working mom, who needed help. My hair was no longer cooperating and had gone against my orders to stay put and obey. She had become unruly. Undone. My hair is coarse, with large waves, and supremely thick. It's definitely not your typical Asian/Filipino hair. Because of this, I call her Mariah. Mariah decided to grow past the hooks on my bra, and started to petulantly rebel. She no longer wanted to listen, and instead decided to branch out on her own, getting wider, impudently giving me the finger by choosing to look like an overgrown hairy mushroom. I don't know what I did to deserve this. It was as if I chose to wear my hair this way. Beauty Fix assigned Joann to mediate, and she effectively tamed Mariah into submissiveness. Danica was also there for the assist. Just. In. Case.... Because truly, you can never know what my hair will do! Been here twice and each time was such a positive and a great experience. Danica and Joann are the best!! This dazzling duo have the knowledge, expertise and style to give you the hair you want! I came in with really over-processed and overgrown hair, down to my back. I mean, talk about brassy, dried out ends! I wanted to go a bit shorter, and left with a fun, and healthy looking, layered length, just below my shoulders. Joann gave me my amazing cut and gave me tips on how to style it so I don't look like that mom who got stuck in the 90s. In fact, I loved this salon so much I had them cut my daughter's hair too! Danica... you are a goddess and now I feel like a goddess, too! I came to Beauty Fix with a recommendation from my friend Jazmine and I'm so glad I came. Coming to Danica is like a mini retreat. I was prepared with a change -- bangs! I haven't had bangs in about 20 years and was ready for something new. Danica looked over my hair and said what would work and what wouldn't, shampooed my hair, cut, blow dried and styled it. I got layers all around and rockin' side sweep bangs. I have avoided going to salons for a long time due to past experiences and thinning, patchy hair. I went in not knowing what I wanted. I just wanted something that i could manage. I am a low maintenance person. I don't usually style my hair. And trying new things and places is hard for me, My hair wash and cut were great. The girl that washed my hair was super nice and made me feel really relaxed (she even made me tea) and they all made sure I was taken care of even when there were a couple other customers inside. I loved my hair cut. I have gotten so many compliments...even after i washed my hair and used no product. I told Danica that i just wanted something short but didn't know what I wanted exactly and she told me where we could start off and worked from there. She was great. I loved everything about the place and people. They were all very considerate, friendly, laid-back and funny. The price was very reasonable. Love, love, love, love, LOVE! I just relocated back to the Bay Area from Houston and I never found someone in TX to cut/style my hair decently. So basically, I avoided going to the salon as much as possible. I have BIG hair issues -- super thin hair and a diagnosed scalp condition that makes the hair on the very top of my head fall out - NOT FUN. Danica said "I get your hair" and the rest was history. In RECORD SPEED, I had a cut and style, reasonably priced. (How in the world did she do that???) The salon is quaint and adorable (you feel right at home), and JoAnn who runs the place with Danica is an absolute sweetheart. You can't help but fall in love with these gals as soon as you meet them. They're best friends since High School and it's obvious how much they adore each other. Born and raised in Brisbane, I've seen a small handful of salons come & go. Most had an old lady vibe (not that I don't like old ladies, I just don't want to look like one... yet), others were just too cheesy 80s with gossip queens abound. Very typical small town stuff. Then, the heavens parted and a ray of sunshine shown down on Visitacion Ave... Beauty Fix Studio was born [insert sound of angels singing]. Okay, maybe that was a bit dramatic, but this little spot is truly a dream. Cute from the inside & outside, amazingly well priced, and amazing hair styling to boot. I never thought I'd see it happen in this here little town. Personally, I have a super fussy a-line cut. Danica took more time than anyone ever has getting it just absolutely perfect. PERFECT!! Perfect to the point that I can wear it straight or curly and it still looks great. Perfect to the point that the grow out even looks good. YAY! This is good news for everyone. AND, this might be important to moms out there: they are baby & kid friendly :) Okay, all the good stuff said, I cannot end this "yelp" without responding to Tastebud S.'s 1-star review. First of all, I'm surprised Yelp would let her reviews fly under what is clearly a phony name, but I digress. 1. Are you really complaining about parking in Brisbane?? That point alone should negate your entire review. Seriously. I live on Visitacion and have NEVER had a problem parking. 2. It sounds like there was a serious lack of communication about what you wanted in a haircut. if there is one thing I've learned through many a bad cut, it's to let the stylist know what *I* think works best for both my hair type and my facial features. Example: my hair shreds with razor cutting so I don't allow it, and front most layers must always extend lower than my chin -- no exceptions. So, SPEAK UP!! Clearly looking good is important to you. If I could give this a 100 stars, I would. I live all the way down in San Mateo area and drive the 20-30 minutes because Danica is just that amazing. I went with my friend while she got her hair cut with Danica & immediately fell in love with the salon. Danica & her assistants are amazing, funny, laid back & so friendly. The entire time we were just sitting, talking & laughing it up. Oh & the added bonus was that my friend's hair looked great after as well! I obviously went back shortly after to get my hair done too. I am never sure what I want to do when I go in and always throw out a couple ideas to Danica & she always helps me decide. One time, I chopped 10 inches off my hair. The other time, I did bangs and a trim. Every time its different, and Danica always takes care of me & tells me what she think will look best & every time she is right. So while I REALLY don't want to share how great this studio is because that just makes it more difficult for me to get an appointment in the future, you need to go to this studio because Danica is AMAAAZING & you will fall in love with all of it like I did. read more

Danica is a freakin' hair genius! I first met Danica when she and Joann came to do hair and makeup for my cousin's wedding. I honestly didn't really know what I wanted for hair and makeup other than I wanted my hair to be down and curly. Danica and Joann worked off of my vague request and came up with a look that worked so perfectly. My cousin's hair also turned out AMAZING, so much so that people were commenting on it throughout the whole day. Not only did they make us look great, but they also made our experience with them incredibly fun. They definitely took out any wedding jitters that my cousin could have had with the hilarious stories they were telling us. Since we loved them so much, my cousin and I decided to go back to Danica when we needed a hair revamp. What I love about Danica is that she'll be perfectly honest with you when it comes to what you want. I had initially wanted to try an ombre, but she let me know that getting the type of ombre I wanted would take a few sessions and that my initial look wouldn't be close to the end result I wanted. She knew exactly what look would work with the type of hair and skin tone I have, which is something I really appreciate since I want to walk out looking better than ever. She gave me a few suggestions and I ended up taking her idea of dying my hair this beautiful eggplant purple color. I seriously have never gotten so many compliments on my hair before, and I think the biggest indicator of how good my hair looks, is that my boyfriend actually loves it! Usually when I change my hair my boyfriend gives me this "what did you do....." look, but this time he actually said he really liked my hair. Danica made sure to ask us if we were happy with our hair before we left, because she truly does care that you leave a happy camper. LOVE! A friend of mine always has the best hair color so I asked who her colorist was and quickly made an appointment. I told Danica what I was thinking of doing over the phone and she asked me to text me a photo of my hair so she could get an idea. When I showed up for my appointment, she asked me what I wanted (red or purple highlights) and then told me the reality of what she could do. At that point, I trusted her immediately and told her to do what she thought would look best. She also sent me home with some extra color that I could do at home by myself when my purple highlights faded. Since my color was already damaged before I saw Danica, the upper part of my hair faded after the first coloring. No problem. Danica told me to come back and colored it darker--at no cost. The next time I went in, I told her I wanted to be a little more adventurous with my color, but I was also starting a new job so she added more purple at the bottom, which is bold, but subtle at the same time--I love it! Sometimes you venture out of your comfort zone to find a place on Yelp. Maybe it's an important task you need done and you're in trouble because you put it off. It's always nerve-racking going to a place of business for the first time, especially for something as important as wedding hair! My wedding was a month away. I couldn't believe the prices other salons were quoting me. Someone had mentioned Beauty Fix to me (I can't remember who or I'd thank them profusely!) and I had called them for more information. Whoever returned my call was super prompt, courteous and friendly. The prices are so affordable and so I made an appointment. I got a Zipcar and drove over to Brisbane. Danica and her assistant were so nice, down-to-earth and funny! No, I mean like really funny, like hilariously inappropriate funny, which is my favorite kind. I loved spending time with them and booked them for my wedding. Danica is so welcoming and open and will not settle for anything less than what you want. I had a little trouble deciding and even though her next clients had come in, she did not rush me at all and told me to take my time so that I could be 100% satisfied. Who does that? She also is accessible and responsive and was only awesome when I asked her for another person to do my maid-of-honor's hair and makeup too. Fast forward to the day of my wedding. Danica and Joann came to our hotel room early in the morning. All us girls had a great time together and it made me completely at ease. That in itself is amazing!!!! My hair was so ME mad when the birdcage didn't work with the 'do, she thought of something else and it was fantastic! I love Danica and everyone she works with! I am about to graduate from college and wanted to look good for my special day. I went to Danica for highlights and eyelash extensions and could not be happier. I have VERY thick hair and getting highlights at other salons usually takes at least 3 hours! Danica was done in a little over one and my hair has never looked this good. I asked to go a little blonder. My hair is lighter but still looks natural. I will seriously never go elsewhere. As far as the eyelashes, this may be one of the best decisions I've made as far as improving my appearance. I almost always wear makeup and when I don't I feel a little shy. Now, I wake up in the morning and leave my house without even putting blush on and still feel great! I thought this was going to be a one time thing just for my graduation but I will definitely be keeping this up. I'm so overdue for this review! Danica and Jo did my hair and makeup for my engagement photos and my wedding day (Sept 2017) I previously had a hair and makeup trial with another artist, and while it was pretty, at the end of the day I didn't feel like myself. Joanne does the makeup, and Danica (pronounced Da-nee-sa) is the hair guru. I wanted tons of volume, because I have none, and loved a half up- half down do. The pricing was totally affordable, compared to other vendors I'd seen. And she was local, which was perfect and she was able to travel to me on my wedding day. On the day, she had a four person team and beautified myself, my mom, and three bridesmaids. It's safe to say we were all very pleased, and everyone's styles stayed all day and night. I can't thank them enough, on the big day there were some time restraint stresses, and Joanne is the one who helped put my garters and shoes on! I also went back to Danica for my eyebrows- she's ah-ma-zing! We had a blast getting ready, and her team was so professional and upbeat, it really helped make my big day even more special.
